New Section

Robert Jay March -- March Report
Today, we inaugurate (pardon the pun) a new section: Obamalot.
In order to avoid bogging down our Politics Section or our Certifi-Gate page with Obama-related material that doesn't really belong in those sections, The Obamalot Section will be where we place stories that reveal how Obama's actions fail to match his rhetoric, or, worse yet, where they reveal his machinations designed to change (there's that word again) The United States of America into a socialist state.
Here now our story. When we last left Prince Barry of Mombassa ...

Analysts Say Prez Erred In Singling Out Rush Limbaugh

Jessica Heslam -- Boston Herald
"He's the president of the United States and all Rush Limbaugh is is a radio talk show host," said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers Magazine. "Once again, Rush Limbaugh raises the stature of our industry to the world stage." ...

Signs And Wonders In Week One Of The Obama Era

J.R. Dunn -- American Thinker
Obama got through his "perfect campaign" (if we overlook Joe the Plumber, the birth certificate, and the Berlin Speech among other incidents), and the "flawless transition". (Putting to the side Bill Richardson, Blago, and Timothy Geithner) But eventually, despite the media's best efforts, his gaffes are going to catch up with him. (Particularly if he continues pulling things like last week's staring contest in the White House press room -- Mussolini used to do that too.) People are going to begin asking, where is the flawless superman we voted for, where is the miracle worker, where is man with an answer for everything? ...

The Obama Inaugural 'Disaster'

Stephen McRoberts --American Thinker
FEMA emergency funds were used to help pay for Obama's over-sized inauguration ...

The "Oaf Of Office"

Lynn Stuter -- News With Views
While the mainstream media is quick to lay the blame on Bush for the economic mess, Obama voted for the bailout of Wall Street, he voted for the taking of taxpayer dollars so his Wall Street buddies could continue their luxurious lifestyles on the backs of the hard-working American taxpayers. In the final days of the Bush Administration, at the request of AKA, Bush asked Congress to release another $350 billion in bailout money while the spending of the first $350 billion (it's actually more than that) remains unaccounted for. Such is not the action of "a man of the people" ...

"Executive" Orders

Rush Limbaugh Is Only The First Target Of Obama's 'New' Politics

Paul Ibrahim -- North Star Writers Group
Barack Obama, Democratic leaders and the media have made clear their rejection of George W. Bush's "old" politics. You see, President Bush did not launch assaults on private citizens, nor did he ever label anyone as "unpatriotic" for disagreeing with him. Thus, Obama and his friends are now effecting the change they promised. Welcome to their "new" politics ...

Seven Reasons To Be Skeptical Of Obama's Economic Plans

Edward Harrison -- Roubini Global Economics

Now that my inauguration hangover has worn off, I have to start treating the new Obama administration with some degree of objectivity." What would have been wrong with a little objectivity during the campaign? ...

Nationalizing Banks Won't Fix Money Problems

Megan Lynch -- dailycampus.com
President Obama seems to have survived his first week in office with little trouble, but it doesn't seem like this good fortune will continue, at least not with the Republicans or me. With the obvious economic troubles looming before him, the nation is waiting for their answers and billions promised in stimulus checks. However, Obama's cure for Wall Street's scars may not turn out to be as great as expected. I don't think many Americans planned to welcome socialism alongside the first black president ...

Geithner Is Breaking Obama Rule?

Bret Baier and Zachary Kenworthy -- Fox News
In his first full day on the job Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner announced new rules designed to limit contact with lobbyists. But that same day, Geithner chose former Goldman Sachs advocate Mark Patterson to serve as his chief of staff. Patterson was a registered lobbyist for the financial giant from 2005 to April of last year. The National Journal reports Patterson is one of more than a dozen recent lobbyists in line for important posts in the Obama administration, despite a presidential order severely restricting the role of lobbyists in his administration ...

Stimulating Voter Fraud And Perpetuating Psychosis

Rick Saunders -- America's Right
Well, the lunacy of the new messiah's administration just keeps on getting deeper and more spectacular. The latest nugget of information to come out of the amazing, Technicolor® "stimulus" bill being peddled by President Barack Obama and his House acolytes is a provision allocating up to 5.2 billion taxpayer dollars to that paragon of virtuous voter registration facilitators: ACORN ...

Obama's WH Chief Of Staff Holds Daily, Secret Calls With Pals In Media

Warner Todd Huston -- News Busters
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel holds daily chit chat sessions with several Old Media pals every morning to start his day. Apparently Emanuel has for years been involved with daily bull sessions to plan media coverage and ideological strategy with CNN's James Carville and Paul Begala, as well as ABC's George Stephanopoulos, with the occasional participation of pollster Stan Greenberg. But there is one little problem with this daily palling around with mediots these days: Emanuel now works for the White House ...

U.S. Gen. John Craddock said in an interview Thursday that there will likely be difficulties in sending some detainees back to their native countries. Holder The Hater

Matthew Vadum -- American Spectator
If President Obama is hoping to change the tone in Washington, it's hard to imagine how having Eric Holder onboard as his attorney general will help accomplish that goal. Much has been written about would-be Attorney General Holder's support for liberal positions, but little has been written about his visceral contempt for conservatives. His public utterances are chock full of the same old tiresome liberal clichés about those on the right one might find on the Daily Kos website ...

Obama's Bipartisan Stimulus Plan: Neither Stimulative Nor Bipartisan

Jennifer Rubin -- Pajamas Media
President Obama's stimulus plan, we were told, was designed to jolt the economy, "save" or "create" jobs and garner bipartisan support. The bill which passed the House Wednesday by a 244-188 margin (attracting not a single Republican vote and losing eleven Democrats) does none of these things. Although the bill now goes to the Senate, the House vote is in a sense a stunning rebuke. As Minority Leader John Boehner said in a released statement: ""This was a bipartisan rejection of a partisan bill." ...

Hope And Change Comes To Washington

Phillip Ellis Jackson --- IntellectualConservative.com
President Obama has issued his first Executive Order on January 24, 2009 in the fight against international terrorism. The U.S. prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO), housing many of the world's most dangerous terrorists, will be closed down. In reading the fine print of the Executive Order, however, the closing will not take place for another year or so, and no decision has been made on where to send these prisoners once GITMO is finally closed. The option of releasing the prisoners has been delayed by a related Executive Order shutting down all military tribunals currently underway to assess each individual detainee's guilt or innocence ...

The Stimulas Shell Game
Obama's People Inserted A $5.2 Billion "Stimulus" For ACORN

Jon Christian Ryter -- News With Views
Sen. David Vitter [R-LA] revealed to the public on Jan. 29 that the Obama people inserted a $5.2 billion "stimulus" in the stimulus package that will reward the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now [ACORN] for flipping the traditionally Red States that Obama needed to become the 44th President of the United States. Nationwide, ACORN, using deliberately-created loopholes the Motor Voter Law (enacted by the Democratically-controlled Congress in 1993 to help Bill Clinton win reelection in 1994) that were tailored specifically for this type of vote fraud). ACORN, using the vetting flaws in the law, created from 9.5 to 15.2 million "new" voters who were not legally eligible to cast those votes in the Election of 2008 because many of them were illegal aliens or they simply didn't exist because they were the result of multiple registrations by the same people ...

Geithner Laying Foundation For Global Governance By "International Taxation" Measures

Cliff Kincaid -- News With Views

They include Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Morgan Stanley. $825 Billion Spending Bill Masked As Stimulus

Betsy Ross -- News Blaze
If you thought the Patriot Act was bad, now your sexual practices, childhood illnesses and diseases, and even the lawsuits you may or may not become involved in will be on one "Real ID" type computer database - that also has the potential to be hacked into by those who are not in any manner persons who "need to know." Obama Promised Acorn Would Shape His Presidential Agenda

NakedEmperorNews
Video This was recorded at the Heartland Democratic Presidential Forum in December of 2007, a forum exclusively for thousands of community organizers including Gamaliel and ACORN people. Now, a year later, more than $4 billion in "economic stimulation funds" are earmarked for "neighborhood stabilization activities" -- money that will go to ACORN and groups like it and MoveOn.org is launching a full-scale media campaign to pressure Republican senators to vote for the stimulus. Obama Administration Trying To "Fast-Track" Sovereignty-Destroying Treaties

Cliff Kincaid --America's Survival
The liberal Brookings Institution has come up with a controversial way to get costly and unpopular treaties ratified by the U.S. Senate. Their answer is to bypass the constitutional requirement that treaties obtain two-thirds of the vote of the Senate before passage by redefining the treaties as statutes. Then, they would only need a bare majority for passage in both Houses of Congress, which just happen to be controlled by Democrats ...

Obama CIA Choice Nets $700,000 From Rescued Banks

Christine Seib -- London Times (UK)
The revelations about Leon Panetta's finances highlight the difficulty the new administration faces in finding experienced advisers that do not violate the President's ban on hiring lobbyists. It is also another embarrassment for President Obama after two Cabinet nominees, Tom Daschle and Nancy Killefer, withdrew this week because of disclosures that they had failed to pay federal taxes. ...

Obama Is Quickly Learning That Being "President" Is Harder Than Just Talking About It

Rasmussen Reports
Support for the economic recovery plan that he was pushing hard by week's end is falling. For the first time, a plurality of voters nationwide oppose the $800-billion-plus plan presently working its way through Congress. "President" Obama - The First Two Weeks

Austin Ford -- Ledger Dispatch
Dirty cabinet choices & lobbyists: We expect change in the White House and in the agencies they control. However, it's doubtful that the Clinton-era people have changed; they just took new seats when the music stopped. Experience and credentials are one thing, but why has the bar for hiring law-abiding, highly ethical people been lowered, make that removed? Bill Richardson, nominated to be commerce secretary, withdrew pending an indictment. Timothy Geithner, nominated for treasury secretary, has been cited for tax evasion. He will oversee the IRS, huh? Tom Daschle, nominated to lead health reform, withdrew after being cited for tax evasion. Ron Holder, confirmed as attorney general, supported pardon for Marc Rich, once one of the FBI's 10 most wanted fugitives. Nancy Killefer, nominated for "performance" czar, withdrew her candidacy because of tax evasion. Hillary Clinton, confirmed as secretary of state, is married to a man who raises money from foreign countries and shady international luminaries. Chief of staff Rahm Emanuel left the country and was incommunicado for weeks following the revelation that he spoke with Gov. Rod Blagojevich about senate choices. He was also on the record saying that the recession could be good for America ...

An Early Fork In The Road

Charlie Cook -- National Journal
The House-passed package suggested an effort exclusively of, by, and for Democrats, and it played to some of the worst stereotypes of the Democratic Party and of politics as usual on Capitol Hill. It implied that Obama had become a captive of, rather than the victor over, old-style politics ...

From The Left: Elevating Form Over Substance: Liberals Now Argue That They Oppose The Label Of Bush's Program, Not The Substance

Lenard Hutchinson, J.D. -- Dissenting Justice
Obama's planned cessation of "rendition" / "extraordinary rendition" does not respond to the full set of concerns that human rights groups expressed. If liberals defend his program, despite its replication of some of the very practices that human rights groups condemned during the Bush administration, then they are being hypocritical. Obama Invites Hamas Terrorists To America

The 1965 Cedar-Hart bill was the greatest bait-and-switch in history. Americans were promised one result, and got the opposite result that they had been promised would never happen. They were misled. Campaigning on "change", Obama is now resorting to fear tactics to push the theft of $780 billion in pork barrel spending that will not, despite Obama's claims, stimulate the economy just as prior bailouts have failed to stimulate the economy, but will push America ever closer to the inevitable depression and the planned destruction of the country ...

You Say "Stimulus," I Hear "Syphilis."

Mark Steyn -- National Review Online
The more interviews Speaker Pelosi gives explaining how vital the STD industry is to restarting the U.S. economy, the more I find myself hearing "syphilis" every time she says "stimulus." In late September, America was showing the first signs of "primary stimulus"-a few billion lesions popping up on the rarely glimpsed naughty bits of the economy: the subprime mortgage racket, the leverage kings. Now, the condition has metastasized in a mere four months into the advanced stages of "tertiary stimulus," with trillions of hideous, ever more inflamed pustules sprouting in every nook and cranny as the central nervous system of the body politic crumbles into total insanity-until it seems entirely normal for the second-in-line of presidential succession to be on TV gibbering away about how vital the federalization of condom distribution is to economic recovery ...

The Fierce Urgency Of Pork

Charles Krauthammer -- Washington Post
The Age of Obama begins with perhaps the greatest frenzy of old-politics influence peddling ever seen in Washington. By the time the stimulus bill reached the Senate, reports the Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical and high-tech companies were lobbying furiously for a new plan to repatriate overseas profits that would yield major tax savings. California wine growers and Florida citrus producers were fighting to change a single phrase in one provision. Substituting "planted" for "ready to market" would mean a windfall garnered from a new "bonus depreciation" incentive. ...

Caterpillar CEO Contradicts Obama On 'Stimulus'

Independent Political Report
For weeks President Obama has claimed his "stimulus" plan allows manufacturers like Caterpillar to stop layoffs and immediately re-hire laid off workers. Obama even traveled to the company's factory in Peoria, Ill. today to pitch his $1.1 trillion welfare-and-spending plan. One problem for the White House, however. Democrats In Full Assault On Capitalism

Joe Kovacs -- World Net Daily
Rush Limbaugh said the economic downturn has not been caused by "the poor schlubs" in charge of banks, but rather "government spending, irresponsible orders from government to banks telling them they had to lend to people who had no business borrowing money. Obama's Pre-Approved 'Press List'

Wall Street Journal
Presidents are free to conduct press conferences however they like, but the decision to preselect questioners is an odd one, especially for a White House famously pledged to openness. We doubt that President Bush, who was notorious for being parsimonious with follow-ups, would have gotten away with prescreening his interlocutors. Mr. Obama can more than handle his own, so our guess is that this is an attempt to discipline reporters who aren't White House favorites. ...

Americans Foolishly Used Their Freedom To Vote For "Chains" Not "Change."

Obama Snuck Socialist Health Care Reform In The Stimulus Bill

Byron J. Richards, CCN -- News With View
Senator Tom Daschle spells out the plan on pages 196-197 of his book, Critical - What We Can Do About the Health Care Crisis, "The next president should act immediately to capitalize on the goodwill that greets any incoming administration. If that means attaching a health-care plan to the federal budget, so be it. This issue is too important to be stalled by Senate protocol." In other words, public debate should be avoided, forget about democracy -- so that Obama-care does not meet the same fate as Hillary-care.
In the 680 page House version of the stimulus bill (H.R.1.E.H., pdf version), almost 200 pages are spent on Health IT (434-627). Right away you can understand that this is a comprehensive piece of legislation, taking up almost 1/3 of the bill. The legislation establishes within the Department of Health and Human Services an Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, which will be headed by a National Coordinator. This is like creating a new FDA, meaning the size of this new branch of government will end up quite large. It states various admirable purposes, such as ensuring electronic health information is secure and that it is used to better patient care. An overall goal is to have an electronic health record for every American by 2014 (page 445) ...

Obama Plans Dramatic Changes To Reduce Nuclear Arsenal

Experts estimate that all the nuclear-weapon states together possess about 27,000 intact nuclear warheads, of which 97 percent are in U.S. and Russian stockpiles. The Pentagon has custody of nearly 10,000 stockpiled warheads, of which 5,735 are considered active or operational. Russia, in one estimate, has 16,000 intact warheads, of which about 5,830 are considered operational. ...

The Ultimate Anti-Stimulus Plan

Mallory Factor -- National Review Online
President Obama and his advisers insist that they place national economic recovery over every other policy objective. However, when it comes to labor policy, they support measures that economic history indicates would significantly hinder such recovery. Perhaps the most shocking is the cynically mislabeled Employee Free Choice Act, known more generally as "card check." Card check would not promote "free choice" but would instead take away employers' right to demand secret-ballot elections for union representation. By pressuring workers into signing cards rather than voting in booths, union officials could gain bargaining power over millions of private-sector workers. ...

Obama's Failing Leadership

Obama's leadership failed its first two important tests, and is about to fail again. Last October, then running mate Joe Biden prophesied that Obama would be tested by a foreign crisis quickly. Biden told a Seattle audience that they'd need to stick with him and Obama because their decisions wouldn't seem correct initially. He begged for time. But the economic crisis challenged Obama's leadership before our foreign enemies could. Obama has failed twice and there is little reason to believe his leadership will improve. ...

Stimulus Equals War

America has been shipping out American youth for a hundred years to serve in foreign conflicts. And after each and every conflict, and with our military being stretched over the entire planet, it would seem that we are indeed a global military force and not a national force. It is also suggested that at least part of the American military wear UN blue helmets, which also indicate that the American military is now a global military. And as pending legislation awaits to draft both men and women ages 18 to 41, and universal service is inches from mandatory for every young American ages 18 to 25 both male and female, one might guess that peace is not on the agenda and that "The Plan" also does not include peace. Psychiatrist Says Obama Corrupting America With Socialism

Chelsea Schilling -- World Net Daily

Rossiter is a forensic psychiatrist and author of "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness" In his book, he explains how the kind of liberalism being displayed by both Barack Obama and the Democratic Party can only be understood as a psychological disorder. He examines how modern liberal collectivism undermines the legal and moral foundations of ordered liberty. ...

Obama Lied; The Economy Died

Tony Blankley -- Creators Syndicate
Bush didn't lie about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He merely was mistaken. Whereas Obama told a whopper when he claimed that he is not for bigger government. As he said last week: "As soon as I took office, I asked this Congress to send me a recovery plan by Presidents Day that would put people back to work and put money in their pockets, not because I believe in bigger government -- I don't." This he asserted despite the fact that the budget he proposed the next day asks for federal spending as 28 percent of gross domestic product, higher by at least 6 percent than any time since World War II. ...

Alan Keyes Says Obama's A Communist

Alan Keyes -- Loyal To Liberty
Understanding this, the enemies of freedom do their best to limit or eliminate words that interfere with their design for despotism. They especially seek to stigmatize and discourage the use of words freighted with the sad and tragic history of tyranny and dictatorship. That's why the use of the word 'communist' to describe Barack Obama has aroused such furious diatribe and aspersion. Call him liberal. Call him socialist. Even call him a Marxist if you will. But communist is a dirty word, a cheap shot, just resentful name calling. Of course, it wasn't a dirty word when Marx or Engels used it to describe their ideology, or when Lenin wielded it to rally his forces on behalf of the proletariat. ...

Obama's Planned Obliteration Of USA?

Renew America
Since Obama and his followers seized the country's executive branch, the USA has been up against a non-stop attack from within its now almost non existent borders. Obama has replaced the establishment of our God given freedoms and liberties, brought to the fore by our founding fathers, with single-minded siege mentality and actions. Yet, too many Republican leaders still appear to remain oblivious as to what this man and his minions are really doing. Either that or they're too afraid of him to speak out. ...

Obama's Nominee To Justice Dept. Was A Taliban's Lawyer And Big Campaign Fund Raiser

Warner Todd Huston -- News Busters
This appointment of a terrorist's defense lawyer to the Department of Justice announces that Barack Obama is in favor of a more lenient stance on terrorists. Will Obama Fumble Iraq?

Michael Yon
Whereas the Bush-war ended in a new if messy democracy, this year we could see an Obama-war begin; Obama has sent a clear signal that we intend to mostly abandon Iraq during this crucial transition period. Today, the progress is obvious. But if Iraq descends back into chaos, the Obama-war, a newborn war, will not be a result of U.S. aggression, but of limp leadership intent on fulfilling campaign promises that were misinformed to begin with. ...

Phony Mortgage Plan

In the fine print, Obama's plan provides no relief for any homeowner whose mortgage exceeds the total value of his home. But these folks are the ones who have been conned into taking sub-prime mortgages so loaded with brokerage commissions, interest rate subsidies, bank fees and lawyer and title-company charges that the amount of the mortgage has ballooned. These high mortgage amounts, coupled with declining property values, have turned about 20 percent of American mortgages upside down, so that the debt exceeds the value of the property. ...

Marxism Comes To America

Paul Walter -- News With Views
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." -- Cicero (106-43 BC) ...

Obama Publishes Proposal To Rescind 'Conscience' Rule

Lawrence Jones -- Christian Pos
The Obama administration moved late last week to "rescind in its entirety" the "conscience" rule, which the Bush administration passed in January. The regulation mandated federally funded health institutions to certify their compliance with existing federal laws that uphold the rights of doctors and nurses to refuse a medical service on religious or moral grounds. The reversal of this regulation could cause conscientious doctors to stop practicing medicine leaving a significant void in the availability of healthcare providers. And the problem will be compounded if the government attempts to force Catholic hospitals to offer abortion," Dr. Peggy Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International stated. Denise Burke, AUL vice president of legal affairs added, "Proper enforcement of existing federal conscience protections is essential to mitigate the current medical crisis in our nation, especially the shortage of qualified providers." ...

Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling To Earth

Douglas E. Schoen And Scott Rasmussen -- Wall Street Journal
Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date. Recent Gallup data echo these concerns. When Gallup asked whether we should be spending more or less in the economic stimulus, by close to 3-to-1 margin voters said it is better to have spent less than to have spent more. When asked whether we are adding too much to the deficit or spending too little to improve the economy, by close to a 3-to-2 margin voters said that we are adding too much to the deficit. ...

Lawmakers Trash The Constitution To Take Control Our Food

Henry Lamb -- World Net Daily
H.R. 875, in flagrant violation of the Fourth Amendment, creates a new Food Safety Administration and give its administrator the authority to "conduct monitoring and surveillance of animals, plants, products or the environment" on every family farm, ranch, vineyard and fishing hole in the country. Moreover, the administrator can visit and inspect the property and demand that the owner present "papers and effects," and all records relating to food production. There is nothing in this bill that requires the administrator show probable cause or that evidence be presented to a judge to secure a warrant for entry into the property. The Fourth Amendment explicitly prohibits government from entering private property without a warrant, "describing the place to be searched, and the persons or thing to be seized."

The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with Barack Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases. "It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. Big Brother Legislation Could Mean Prosecution, Fines Up To $1 Million For Growing Food

Chelsea Schilling -- World Net Daily
Some small farms and organic food growers could be placed under direct supervision of the federal government under new legislation making its way through Congress. House Resolution 875, or the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., in February. DeLauro's husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto -- the world's leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seed. Another "food safety" bill that has organic and small farmers worried is Senate Bill 425, or the Food Safety and Tracking Improvement Act, sponsored by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio and backed by lobbyists for Monsanto, Archer Daniels Midland and Tyson. It was introduced in September and has been referred to the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Some say the legislation could also put small farmers out of business.

Obama Gives The GOP An Opening

KARL ROVE -- Wall Street Journal

Team Obama thinks that, having spent a good portion of the campaign decrying the $2.9 trillion in deficits during the Bush years, it can now double the national debt held by the public in 10 years. Having condemned earmarks during the campaign, the Obama administration now believes it can wave through 8,500 of them in the omnibus-spending bill, part of the biggest spending increase since World War II. With the Dow at 7,486 and unemployment at 8.1%, Mr. Obama says the economy is fundamentally sound. The White House defense of Obama's publishing payment is truly unpersuasive. Whether one calls it a "license" or a "book deal," the fact remains that President Obama negotiated a lucrative private arrangement while both a presidential candidate and president-elect. This arrangement casts doubt on the president's ethics and judgment. It also begs the question of how he intends to spend his time in the White House. Yet Another Unconstitutional Law Passed

Todd Keister -- New York Examiner
Although this congress has rendered the constitution utterly irrelevant, a brief mention of the ways in which this measure lacks constitutionality must be made. The TARP and other bailout funds already paid to companies like AIG were delivered under a particular set of terms established by the federal government. Revisiting these agreements - which were in themselves a violation of congress's authority - is not only contrary to accepted legal precedent, but may be considered an ex post facto law - a law which makes an act illegal after it has been committed. The retroactive tax on the AIG bonuses was another example of this type of legislation which is specifically prohibited by the constitution. ...

"After the election," Jere Jordan, general manager Midsouth Shooters Supply in Clarksville, Tenn. told the Associated Press, "where you have a change of parties to a more liberal side, I would say I guess the conservatives want to protect what they feel might be taken away from them, either through a tax, or an all-out ban." Obama's Worst Jobs-Killer

Dick Morris And Eileen McGann -- New York Post
Obama announced that he'd seek to regulate nonbank institutions, including those he deems to be "too big to fail" lest their collapse injure the economy. Which businesses will be included? Nobody knows. We may not know even when the law is passed. As companies grow or merge or acquire one another, they may step over the invisible line and become "too big," and thus subject to Obama's regulation. ...

Obama's Debut On World Stage Yields Mixed Results On Low Expectations

FOX News
Obama failed to get European leaders to commit to U.S.-style stimulus packages or to get NATO allies to send more combat troops to Afghanistan. The allies rebuked Obama's push for Europe to share the burden of the anti-terror fight in Afghanistan with more combat troops. That leaves the heavy lifting in U.S. hands. As he escalates U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Obama also is seeking to broaden the multinational commitment to preventing new terrorist attacks that he has repeatedly told Europeans are just as likely on their continent as in America. ...

The proposed bill, formally known as the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, was filed on Wednesday by Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). The legislation includes a long list of provisions that would give federal officials significant new authority to set and enforce data security standards for federal agencies, government contractors and key parts of the private sector. It would give the president unprecedented new powers to disconnect government and private-sector networks from the Internet in the event of security emergencies. ...

Med Center Official Tried To Silence Vet

Bryant Jordan -- Military.com
Canady's story -- allegations of racial discrimination and a claim that he was twice given an overdose of morphine by a nurse who continues to work at the hospital -- peaked the interest of a local radio reporter who, when he tried to interview Canady, was interrupted by a hospital official. Gloria Hairston, a hospital public affairs officer, told reporter David Schultz he could not use the interview and told Canady he could not talk anymore. But when Canady insisted he would, Hairston returned with a pair of security guards and demanded Schultz turn over his recording equipment. The hospital's strong-arm approach to halt the interview had a consequence it didn't intend -- it turned Canady's claims of racism and malpractice into a larger story and captured the interest of Paul Sullivan, a former VA project manager who monitored Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq War vets and who now heads up Veterans for Common Sense. ...

In Reversal, Obama Opens Door To Prosecuting Top Bush Aides

Steven Thomma and Marisa Taylor -- McClatchy Newspapers
His statement that his administration might prosecute members of the Bush administration caught Washington by surprise, directly contradicting comments made two days before by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and raising questions about why Obama abruptly changed course. On Tuesday, the liberal group MoveOn.org launched a campaign to gather signatures on petitions urging Holder to appoint a special prosecutor. "So far there's been no accountability for the architects of Bush's torture program," the group said in an e-mail to supporters. At the same time, the liberal Web site DailyKos.com, posted a long blog item Tuesday complaining that the Obama administration wouldn't prosecute Bush administration officials "unless bludgeoned into doing it." ...

Torture Memo Has Put US In Danger, CIA Tells Barack Obama

Tim Reid -- London Times (UK)
Mr Obama's first visit to the CIA, to boost morale there and shore up his own reputation, came as his decision to release the memos detailing brutal interrogation sessions of terror suspects continued to attract criticism. There were claims from inside the agency's ranks that the move had undermined its ability to extract vital intelligence from America's enemies, and could even blow the cover of some secret operatives. Michael Hayden, who ran the CIA under President Bush, said before Mr Obama's visit that the release of the memos had compromised the CIA's intelligence gathering work and, in effect, aided America's enemies. ...

Obama's Leap To Socialism

When the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) intervention was first outlined by the Bush administration, it did not call for any transfer of stock, of any sort, to the government. The Democrats demanded, as a price for their support, that the taxpayers "get something back" for the money they were lending to the banks. House Republicans, wise to what was going on, rejected the administration's proposal and sought, instead, to provide insurance to banks, rather than outright cash. Their plan would, of course, not involve any transfer of stock. But Sen. U.S. Citizens Will Lose If 'Post-American Vision Dominates

Ben Kellerman -- Springfield News-Leader
In Congress, there now is a serious debate about whether the nation should even try to enforce its immigration laws. The debate is between "national-community Americans" -- those who continue to believe in the idea of a separate, self-governed nation -- and those who have a "post-American" vision. The post-American vision is for (1) America's workers to be "allowed" to compete directly with every worker in the world who makes the effort to move to this country and for (2) the quality of life of a local community to be determined by global forces rather than by democratic self-determination. ...

Is America Turning Into A Banana Republic?

David Goldman -- Seeking Alpha
Obama profiles Americans the way anthropologists interact with primitive peoples. He holds his own view in reserve and emphatically draws out the feelings of others; that is how friends and colleagues describe his modus operandi since his days at the Harvard Law Review, through his years as a community activist in Chicago, and in national politics. Anthropologists, though, proceed from resentment against the devouring culture of America and sympathy with the endangered cultures of the primitive world. Obama inverts the anthropological model: he applies the tools of cultural manipulation out of resentment against America. ...

Second Amendment Rights In Jeopardy

Chuck Baldwin -- News With Views
As readers may recall, the MIAC report profiled certain people as being potential violence-prone "militia members": including people who supported Presidential candidates Ron Paul and Bob Barr. In addition, anyone who opposed one or more of the following were also included in the list: the New World Order, the U.N., gun control, the violation of Posse Comitatus, the Federal Reserve, the Income Tax, the Ammunition Accountability Act, a possible Constitutional Convention, the North American Union, the Universal Service Program, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), abortion on demand, or illegal immigration. It is very likely that when all of the opinions and views of the above lists are counted, 75% or more of the American people would be included. Yet, these government reports would have law enforcement personnel to believe we are all dangerous extremists that need to be watched and guarded against. Fact Check: Obama's Job, Deficit Claims Are Iffy

Calvin Woodward -- Associated Press
Obama turned the page on 100 days in office with an iffy boast about job creation and claims of fiscal prudence that are hard to square with his spending.
  • His assertion that his proposed budget "will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term" is an eyeball-roller for many economists, given the uncharted terrain of trillion-dollar deficits the government is negotiating.
  • He promised vast savings from increased spending on preventive health care in the face of doubts that such an effort, however laudable it might be for public welfare, can pay for itself, let alone yield huge savings.

Obama May Earn Millions From Schools In Book Deal

Richard Henry Lee -- American Thinker
The current version of Obama's book is already targeted for use by high school students according to the Random House website, and the abridged, easy-to-read version should be an even easier sell. President George W. Bush placed his assets in a blind trust when he became President to avoid any appearance of impropriety, but President Obama has not followed suit. Instead, he signed on to this business venture just before becoming President despite his campaign promise that there would be change in the way business is conducted in Washington. The editorial pages have been silent on this aspect of the book deal. When Obama accepted help from now convicted felon, Tony Rezko, in purchasing his spacious home in Chicago, he described the decision as "boneheaded", but that was only after reporters questioned him about it. The plaintiff in the case that made abortion legal in the United States later became adamantly pro-life and in 1995 began a crusade to overturn the law she helped create. This fact has largely gone unreported by the mass media. McCorvey was taken into custody without a struggle after trespassing on the grounds of Notre Dame University to protest the pending visit Barack Obama. ...

Obama Closes Doors On Openness

Michael Isikoff -- Newsweek
As a senator, Barack Obama denounced the Bush administration for holding "secret energy meetings" with oil executives at the White House. But last week public-interest groups were dismayed when his own administration rejected a Freedom of Information Act request for Secret Service logs showing the identities of coal executives who had visited the White House to discuss Obama's "clean coal" policies. One reason: the disclosure of such records might impinge on privileged "presidential communications." The refusal, approved by White House counsel Greg Craig's office, is the latest in a series of cases in which Obama officials have opted against public disclosure. Since Obama pledged on his first day in office to usher in a "new era" of openness, "nothing has changed," says David -Sobel, a lawyer who litigates FOIA cases. "For a president who said he was going to bring unprecedented transparency to government, you would certainly expect more than the recycling of old Bush secrecy policies." ...

In Stark Legal Turnaround, Obama Now Resembles Bush

Michael Doyle -- McClatchy Newspapers
In courtroom battles and freedom-of-information fights from Washington, D.C., to California, Obama's legal arguments repeatedly mirror Bush's: White House turf is to be protected, secrets must be retained and dire warnings are wielded as weapons. "It's putting up a veritable wall around the White House, and it's so at odds with Obama's campaign commitment to more open government," said Anne Weismann, chief counsel for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a legal watchdog group. ...

White House Fires Watchdog Who Refused To Protect An Obama Crony

Wall Street Journal
Inspector General for the Corporation for National and Community Service, Gerald Walpin, was fired in a case that smells of political favoritism and Chicago rules. St. HOPE, a California nonprofit run by former NBA star and Obama supporter Kevin Johnson, had received an $850,000 AmeriCorps grant, which was supposed to go for three purposes: tutoring for Sacramento-area students; the redevelopment of several buildings; and theater and art programs. Mr. Walpin's investigators discovered that the money had been used instead to pad staff salaries, meddle politically in a school-board election, and have AmeriCorps members perform personal services for Mr. Johnson, including washing his car. Last Wednesday, Walpin got a phone call from a White House lawyer telling him to resign within an hour or be fired. ...

Obama Ally Says Obama Violated Law In I.G. Firing

David Nather -- CQ Politics

Gerald Walpin Says He's Being Targeted

Judson Berger -- FOXNews
"I am now the target of the most powerful man in this country, with an army of aides whose major responsibility today seems to be to attack me and get rid of me," Walpin said. Facing bipartisan criticism for the firing, Obama sought to allay congressional concerns with a letter to Senate leaders Tuesday evening explaining his decision. In the letter, White House Special Counsel Norman Eisen wrote that Walpin was "confused" and "disoriented" at a May board meeting, was "unduly disruptive," and exhibited a "lack of candor" in providing information to decision makers. "That's a total lie," Walpin said of the latter charge. And he said the accusation that he was dazed and confused at one meeting out of many was not only false, but poor rationale for his ouster. ...

Obama, Siding With The Iranian Regime

Robert Kagan -- Washington Post
Whatever Obama's personal sympathies may be, if he is intent on sticking to his original strategy, then he can have no interest in helping the opposition. His strategy toward Iran places him objectively on the side of the government's efforts to return to normalcy as quickly as possible, not in league with the opposition's efforts to prolong the crisis. It's not that Obama preferred a victory by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He probably would have been happy to do business with Mir Hossein Mousavi, even if there was little reason to believe Mousavi would have pursued a different approach to the nuclear issue. But once Mousavi lost, however fairly or unfairly, Obama objectively had no use for him or his followers. If Obama appears to lend support to the Iranian opposition in any way, he will appear hostile to the regime, which is precisely what he hoped to avoid. ...

The American Pravda: ABC News To Turn Its Programming Over To The White House To "Sell" Health Care

Anthony G. Martin -- New York Observer
Anchor Charles Gibson will deliver evening news broadcasts directly from the White House blue room. The purpose? To rally public support for Obama's new program to dismantle American free enterprise in its healthcare sector. No opposing points of view will be allowed to air. Obama's Soviet-styled 'politburo,' made up of his top advisors and the Democratic leadership in Congress, is on a rampage against the public that has shown little interest in his latest proposal to drain millions from Medicare and Medicaid in order to fund government intrusion into healthcare, including a government-owned corporation that will compete directly with private insurers -- a move that will eventually drive such insurers out of business, leaving the United States with a single-payer system modeled after the U.K. and Canada. ...

Is Iran Nuking Up As Obama Fiddles?

Aaron Klein -- World Net Daily
President Obama's "learning curve" regarding his policies toward Iran might buy Tehran enough time to produce nuclear weapons, Shabtai Shavit, former chief of the Mossad intelligence agency, warned. I am really worried there will be a heavy price for us," Shavit said. ...

Obama Fires Watchdog For Investigating Barack's Fund-Raising Buddies

John Hinderaker -- Power Line
Gerald Walpin, the Inspector General responsible for the Corporation for National and Community Service, the organization that runs AmeriCorps, was fired by Barack Obama after he blew the whistle on waste of government funds by a nonprofit run by Obama supporter Kevin Johnson, the Mayor of Sacramento. Walpin's effort to discharge his duties got him in hot water not only with Johnson, but also with the Corporation's head, Alan Solomont, a Democratic Party fundraiser and Obama crony, and the acting U.S. Attorney in Sacramento. Obama had one of his White House lawyers call Walpin and demand that he resign within an hour. When Walpin refused to quit, Obama fired him without giving a reason other than his supposed lack of "fullest confidence" in Walpin. ...

Soldier Convicted Of Murder Of Iraqi Detainee Due To Suppressed Evidence Proving His Innocence Appeals

Jay F. Marks -- Oklahoman
After testimony in First Lt. Michael Behenna's trial ended in February, his attorneys learned a government expert agreed evidence in the case supported Behenna's version of what happened May 16, 2008. Behenna testified he shot Ali Mansur in self-defense, while prosecutors argued Mansur was killed "execution style." Herbert MacDonnell, a renowned forensics expert hired by the government, said Behenna's testimony fit the evidence in the case, but that was not enough to win Behenna a new trial after the jury's verdict. Behenna's supporters said the justice system allows for an immediate remedy to that oversight. The convening authority can set aside the guilty verdict against Behenna and order a new trial. ...

Obama Administration Supports Saudi Immunity In 9/11

World Net Daily
The Obama administration has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to protect Saudi Arabia and four of its princes from being held accountable for their alleged role in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States that killed almost 3,000 Americans, according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin. Through its solicitor general, Elena Kagan, the Obama administration has asked that the Saudis be held immune under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, or FSIA, even though there is ample U.S. evidence of complicity by the Saudi government and the named princes in support of al-Qaida's terrorist attack. ...

Foreign Press Assails Obama's Expensive 'Date Night,'

Warner Todd Huston -- News Busters
It is interesting, instructive, and a little disheartening to notice that the foreign press is much more shocked than the U.S. press is by the arrogance and expense of the Obama's "date night" that cost the taxpayers nearly one million dollars last week. The Australian and British press, for instance, scoffed at the absurd cost of the one night visit to New York that Obama "sacrificed" for but the U.S. press didn't seem to mind the waste of the taxpayers money nearly as much. ...

Bush, Obama Waltz With States' Sovereignty

Lloyd Omdahl -- Jamestown Sun
Because Democrats know that states are inclined to do less, they have favored action at the national level, usually at the expense of states' rights. But when Bush was proposing regulations that en-croached on state sovereignty, Democrats opposed his pre-emption of state authority, not because they had repented of their nationalist ways but be-cause of the issues involved. President Barack Obama now has agency heads scouring government regulations for cases where previous administrations had negated state sovereignty. He plans to become a new advocate for states' rights by revising these regulations. ...

Obama's War On Talk Radio

Dick Morris And Eileen McGann
Obama's liberal philosophy dictates that when the news is bad, shoot the messenger. The newest data from Arbitron, the company charged with measuring the size of radio audiences, suggests that listenership to hip hop, inner city, and minority radio has been overstated in the past and that the popularity of conservative talk radio has been under-reported. Arbitron has availed itself of new technology in launching its Portable People Meter (PPM) -- a cell phone sized unit the listener wears on his or her belt which automatically notes what station they are tuning in and when they switch or stop. The PPM measurements concluded that hip hop, urban rock, and minority-oriented radio stations reached fewer listeners and for shorter periods of time than the diaries had indicated. It found that talk radio had a larger listenership. ...

Let's Face It: Obama Is No Post-Partisan

William McGurn -- Wall Street Journal
Only last summer we were told that Barack Obama's political appeal rested on his vision for a "post-partisan future." The post-partisan future was one of the press corps' favorite phrases. It served as shorthand for the candidate's repeated references to "unity of purpose," looking beyond a red or blue America, and so on. Six months into the president's term, you don't read much about this post-partisan future anymore. It may be because on almost every big-ticket legislative item (the stimulus, climate change, and now health care), Mr. Obama has been pushing a highly ideological agenda with little (and in some cases zero) support from across the aisle. Yet far from stating the obvious--that sitting in the Oval Office is a very partisan president--the press corps is allowing Mr. Obama to evade the issue by coming up with novel redefinitions. ...

Obama's Signing Statements Anger Lawmakers

Jonathan Weisman -- Wall Street Journal
With $108 billion in International Monetary Fund loan guarantees in jeopardy last month, White House economic officials begged, cajoled and cut deals with Democrats to secure passage of legislation boosting the fund's power. Days later, President Barack Obama announced he wasn't bound by any of the agreements. The ensuing flap over the president's June 24 signing statement is the latest in a series of clashes between the White House and Congress over an issue Mr. Obama once fought against himself: presidential fiat. ...

Obama Science Czar Holdren Called For Compulsory Population-Control, Including Forced Abortion

Drew Zahn -- World Net Daily
The man President Obama has chosen to be his science czar once advocated a shocking approach to the "population crisis" feared by scientists at the time: namely, compulsory abortions in the U.S. and a "Planetary Regime" with the power to enforce human reproduction restrictions. Holdren's comments, made in 1977, mirror the astonishing admission this week of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who said she was under the impression that legalizing abortion with the 1973 Roe. v. Wade case would eliminate undesirable members of the populace, or as she put it "populations that we don't want to have too many of." ...

An Obama Official's Frightening Book About Curbing Free Speech Online

Kyle Smith -- New York Post
Czar is too mild a world for what Cass Sunstein is about to become. How about "regulator in chief"? How about "lawgiver"? He is Obama's Obama. In "On Rumors," Sunstein reviews how views get cemented in one camp even when people are presented with persuasive evidence to the contrary. He worries that we are headed for a future in which "people's beliefs are a product of social networks working as echo chambers in which false rumors spread like wildfire." That future, though, is already here, according to Sunstein. "We hardly need to imagine a world, however, in which people and institutions are being harmed by the rapid spread of damaging falsehoods via the Internet," he writes. "We live in that world. What might be done to reduce the harm?" Sunstein questions the current libel standard -- which requires proving "actual malice" against those who write about public figures, including celebrities. Mere "negligence" isn't libelous, but Sunstein wonders, "Is it so important to provide breathing space for damaging falsehoods about entertainers?" Celeb rags, get ready to hire more lawyers. ...

Billions In Aid Go To Areas That Backed Obama In '08

Brad Heath -- USA Today
Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, an analysis of government disclosure and accounting records shows. That money includes aid to repair military bases, improve public housing and help students pay for college. ...

Inaccurate Claims On Oil Imports

Andrew Karter -- factcheck.org
In a July 6 interview with Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, President Obama repeated his false claim that the U.S. "import[s] more oil today than ever before." When Obama first said this in February during an address to a joint-session of Congress, he had gotten his facts wrong. We said then that oil imports peaked in 2005 and have "substantially" declined since. That's still the case. ...

Obama Sides With Chavez, Castro Against Honduran Democracy

Washington Examiner
According to Barack Obama, the U.S. must at all costs avoid even the slightest appearance of meddling in the internal affairs of Iran. But it's quite all right for the U.S. to join a declared enemy like Hugo Chavez to support another wannabe strong man like now-former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya? If this is the "policy of engagement" that is required to repair America's image around the world, we ought not be surprised when foreign leaders conclude the U.S. has no consistent, coherent policy abroad, and then act accordingly. When they do, it will be to advance their interests, not those of the U.S. For some, like Chavez, it could be an opportunity to do serious and possibly irreversible damage to America's legitimate overseas interests. ...

Obama Flirts With Breaking Campaign Pledge On Taxes To Pay For Health Care Reform

When it came to taxes, candidate Barack Obama seemed to clearly draw a line in the sand. "If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up," Obama said repeatedly on the campaign trail last year. But that line in the sand may get harder to spot now that Obama has assumed power and as some lawmakers lobby to tax a portion of the most generous employer-provided health insurance policies to help pay for the president's signature initiative of health care reform. "The president's going to watch the process," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday about efforts to overhaul the health care system. "He's going to be flexible, and we'll evaluate as we go."...

Joy Tiz -- Canada Free Press (CA)

No president in history came to office with more political capital than Barack Obama. He squandered it like a lottery winner within a few months. If liberals had any sense of irony, they would appreciate the inanity of braying about racism right after America elected a black president. Like a compulsive gambler or shopaholic, liberals will have a tough time giving up the Race Card. It's been remarkably effective in the past; but only because we enable them to get away with it. No reasonable American wants to be thought of as a racist. It's an allegation that packs a colossal wallop. Fortunately, it's an accusation that is rarely credible. ...

The unrest we are seeing across this county is now on a scale not seen since the war protests of the sixties. Yet this is very different. Today's protesters cross the socioeconomic spectrum, they are from both political parties and no political party. What unites them is not age or drugs or religion. What has brought all these Americans together is a mixture of anger and fear. The fear is for the future, their own and their children's. They fear the results of too much spending and borrowing. They fear an administration that puts those who disagree with them on watch lists and uses mob-like tactics of intimidation to get its way. They are angry with a congress that rushes legislation through without reading it. They are angry with a government that ignores their concerns, labels them with sexual innuendoes and is indignant when anyone dares question their wisdom or methods. They are angry with a government that demonizes business for jets and junkets yet enjoys all those perks and more on our dime. ...

Washington Post Tells Obama, "Time To Act Like A President"

Richard Cohen -- Washington Post

The trouble with Obama is that he gets into the moment and means what he says for that moment only. He meant what he said when he called Afghanistan a "war of necessity" -- and now is not necessarily so sure. He meant what he said about the public option in his health-care plan -- and then again maybe not. He would not prosecute CIA agents for getting rough with detainees -- and then again maybe he would. Most tellingly, he gave Congress an August deadline for passage of health-care legislation -- "Now, if there are no deadlines, nothing gets done in this town . . . " -- and then let it pass. It seemed not to occur to Obama that a deadline comes with a consequence -- meet it or else. Obama lost credibility with his deadline-that-never-was, and now he threatens to lose some more with his posturing toward Iran. ...

Obama's Rank Appeasement Of Villains?

Arnaud de Borchgrave -- Washington Times

For some armchair strategists, President Obama's decision to scrap President George W. Bush's plan to deploy ballistic-missile-defense hardware in Poland and the Czech Republic was rank appeasement that would merely sharpen the Russian bear's appetite for more unilateral concessions that could only weaken America's defense posture. That was sound Cold War thinking. For some, the Cold War's villains continue in sheep's clothing. Moscow still craves recognition as the dominant power in the former Soviet Union. Poland and the Czech Republic, some pundits say, feel abandoned by the United States as a result of Mr. Obama's decision. Wrong. Both Prague and Warsaw had been expecting Mr. Obama's decision since he won the presidency. But it clearly encourages these two former Soviet satellites -- once anointed "New Europe" by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld -- to close ranks with the "Old Europe" and seek security against missile attacks in a larger defense framework. ...

Obama's Game Plan: Roadmap To Enforced Socialism

James Simpson -- American Thinker

Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven were two lifelong members of Democratic Socialists of America who taught sociology at Columbia University (Piven later went on to City University of New York). In a May 1966 Nation magazine article titled "The Weight of the Poor," they outlined their strategy, proposing to use grassroots radical organizations to push ever more strident demands for public services at all levels of government. The result, they predicted, would be "a profound financial and political crisis" that would unleash "powerful forces ... for major economic reform at the national level." It is that strategy we see unfolding before us, led by Barack Obama. ...

Aaron Klein -- World Net Daily

In his recently released book, "On Rumors," Sunstein specifically cited as a primary example of "absurd" and "hateful" remarks, reports by "right-wing websites" alleging an association between President Obama and Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers. He also singled out radio talker Sean Hannity for "attacking" Obama regarding the president's "alleged associations." Ayers reportedly was involved in hiring Obama as chairman for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge -- a job Obama later touted as qualifying him to run for public office. ...

Barack Obama Admits He Will Miss Guantanamo Closing Deadline; Calls Stimulus Data Errors 'Side Issue'

Barack Obama brushed off criticism over his administration's inaccurate reporting on job creation Wednesday, telling Fox News' Major Garrett the accounting is an "inexact science" and that any errors are a "side issue" when compared with the goal of turning the economy around. He said job growth is his No.1 responsibility. Obama also said Wednesday that he still plans to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp next year even though his administration is widely expected to miss its self-imposed January 2010 deadline for shuttering the Cuba facility. ...

Aaron Klein -- World Net Daily

The Obama administration's withdrawn nominee for a top intelligence post delivered a speech to a pro-Arab U.S. group in which he claimed that Israel has long assassinated peace-loving Palestinian leaders. Freeman was slated to head the National Intelligence Council but withdrew his nomination in March following revelations that he has financial ties to the infamous bin Laden family and that he sits on the board of a major oil company owned by the Chinese government that had been in the midst of a multibillion dollar deal with Iran that may violate U.S. sanctions. It's all there in The Audacity of Hope. Clearly, this is a man of substance ... illegal no-nos, that is. Despite his past, with a major assist from the mainstream media and other leftist institutions and $750 million dollars in the bank, Barack Obama managed to recast his image for the 2008 elections. Obama's Done Everything Wrong

Mort Zuckerman -- Daily Beast

Obama punted on the economy and reversed the fortunes of the Democrats in 365 days. He's misjudged the character of the country in his whole approach. There's the saying, "It's the economy, stupid." He didn't get it. He was determined somehow or other to adopt a whole new agenda. He didn't address the main issue. This health-care plan is going to be a fiscal disaster for the country. Most of the country wanted to deal with costs, not expansion of coverage. This is going to raise costs dramatically. ...

Obama's Newest Idea: Simply Outlaw Reality

Charles Hurt -- New York Post

After months of swearing that his health legislation would lower the skyrocketing costs of insurance premiums, Obama finally acknowledged that actually it would not. So, instead, he has included a new provision that can simply outlaw premium increases his administration deems "unreasonable and unjustified." Why create a whole new federal law to cap premium hikes? There is only one reason: Even this White House can no longer keep up the charade. Perhaps even more disturbing than Obama's back-door admission here is his plan for fixing it. The Democratic health-care bill actually causes insurance premiums to rise: well, then, we'll just pass a law! Let's pass a law to outlaw reality! ...

While Plouffe spent much of his time bashing Kirk, "Congressman Kirk has shown himself to be a fan of fiction," there was no mention of Giannoulias' approval of $20 million in loans to Chicago mob figure Michael "Jaws" Giorango while he was Senior Loan Officer at Giannoulias family owned Broadway Bank. Not surprisingly, Giannoulias now denies any association with Mr. Jaws and insists the loans were made without his direct involvement, which would be a miraculous feat considering at the time Giannoulias' job title was Senior Loan Officer and he has been quoted as saying "You have to understand that it was the family business; I did everything there." ...

Kelly O'Connell -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Is there a single American who secretly thinks Obama's up to the task of the presidency? Or, does anyone believe Barack does not take bad situations and worsen them to magnify his power? These are rhetorical questions, of course. The only way Barack is an acceptable president is if you're an opponent of America's greatest achievements. Therefore, if you support Obama it means you want to revolutionize the US. But no democratic country knowingly elects leaders to debase their country, give away power, bankrupt the treasury, incorporate socialism, dissolve constitutional rights, cripple capitalism, and menace every citizen with reckless policies. That would be ridiculous and anti-American. Barack has done all these things. Therefore, he must be impeached. ...

The Rationer-In-Chief

Conn Carroll -- Heritage Foundation

The fact that the White House chose to empower Dr. Donald Berwick to be the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS is the agency that runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs) by recess appointment is particularly audacious. The recess appointment power was intended to be used for occasions when the Senate is out for months at a time. The Senate is currently out of session for just 11 days. Worse, the Senate majority has never even scheduled a hearing so that Dr. Berwick's rationing views could be given an "open" forum. In fact, Dr. Berwick has not even returned Senators' written questionnaires. The White House defends the move by claiming "there's no time to waste with Washington game-playing." But then why did the Obama administration wait until April 2010, a full 15 months after President Obama was sworn into office, to nominate Dr. Berwick? Barack Obama's 'Politics As Usual' Revealed By Rod Blagojevich Trial

Toby Harnden -- Telegraph (UK)

Although "Blago", the foul-mouthed bouffant buffoon, is the main attraction of the Chicago production, the former Illinois governor's reluctant co-star is Barack Obama. He forms part of the proceedings each day even though the judge has spared him a personal experience. Blago had the power to appoint a new Senator when the seat was vacated because of Obama's presidential election victory in November 2008. That choice, the trial has confirmed, was Valerie Jarrett, who now rejoices in the title of senior White House adviser and Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs. Her qualification to be a Senator? Jarrett was a long-time personal friend of Obama and his wife Michelle and that seemed to be qualification enough for the man about to enter the White House. Following the Rahm Emanuel playbook, Barack Obama is losing no time in taking full advantage of the Gulf oil spill crisis to further his far left agenda. When he was addressing the nation from the oval office last week his tone and demeanor were combative, as his speech was filled with words and phrases that alluded to warfare. Obama's speech wasn't so much about the Gulf's environmental disaster as it was about laying the groundwork to get a draconian cap and trade law passed through Congress, one that would relegate America to the level of a third-world country by raising the cost of living to such an extent that suicide might be a more attractive financial strategy. ...

Why Obamacare Is Unconstitutional

Van Irion -- Desert Conservative

In 1919, the regulation of a drug, alcohol, required a Constitutional amendment to be ratified by the States. Yet, today we have the FDA which regulates every "prescription" drug and the DEA which regulates every "illegal" drug. So how did we go from requiring a Constitutional amendment to regulate just one drug, to multiple Federal agencies that regulate drugs without any Constitutional amendment whatsoever? During the presidency of FDR, the Supreme Court drastically changed the interpretation of the Commerce Clause to empower Congress to regulate Commerce within the States. For the prior 150 years, the Supreme Court interpreted the Commerce clause to prevent unfair competition between the States. For the past 73 years, Congress has viewed the precedent from the FDR court as Constitutional authority to regulate whatever they please. ...

White House In Crisis; Will Section 4 Of The 25th Amendment Be Invoked?

Obama's Errors On Arizona Law Exposed

James R. Edwards, Jr. -- Human Events

The Arizona law reflects the same language as the wording in federal immigration law. The state law doesn't create its own immigration policy. That makes the administration's legal challenge all the more specious. Its arguments parrot those the ACLU, the National Council of La Raza and similar activist groups make whenever a state or locality tries to enact a remedy to immigration-related problems that arise in their community. The Supreme Court and several appellate courts have treaded lightly in cases involving federal pre-emption. Barack Obama's Auntie Zeituni: Not The Poster Child For Immigration Reform

Jim Byrd -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Regarding this country's immigration, the only thing wrong with the system in place is the irremediable damage of decades of unwillingness to adequately fund it, the blatant refusal to enforce it, and the preposterous assumption of its harmlessness by the Left. Every president and Congress since Lyndon Johnson shares culpability for the current conglomeration of the 15-20 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Left needs the expedited conversion from illegal to citizen for votes, and the Right needs them regardless of their citizenship status for cheap labor. ...
