Frank Sinatra Made A Dirty Movie At 19, Says New Biography

John Thomas Didymus -- Digital Journal

A new biography of Frank Sinatra alleges that at 19, struggling to get his singing career started, he agreed to appear in a porn film. According to "Frank Sinatra, The Boudoir Singer: All the Gossip Unfit to Print from the Glory Days of Ol' Blue Eyes," he was paid $100 for his part in the 1934 movie "The Masked Bandit." The author of Sinatra's new biography, Darwin Porter, says he got the information from British actor Peter Lawford, a member of Frank Sinatra's gang of friends in the 1960s, the Rat Pack. The Rat Pack included Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. According to Peter Lawford's story, Sammy Davis Jr., who collected porn movies, had a copy of Frank Sinatra's movie.

Obama's Strategic Misfires Behind The Mess That U.S. Is In, Says Bill Clinton In New Book

Associated Press

Former President Bill Clinton says in a new book that last summer's political fight over raising the US debt ceiling made the nation look "weak and confused" overseas and he doesn't know why President Barack Obama didn't seek a hike in the limit when Democrats still controlled both houses of Congress. He says the final deal did little to create jobs or solve the longer-term debt crisis. In his book, "Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy," Clinton analyses the factors that contributed to the nation's current economic woes and offers several policy prescriptions he says would create jobs and make the US more competitive.

Was Vincent Van Gogh Murdered?

Christina Caron -- ABC News (US)

Video AND TEXT. Experts have said for more than 100 years that post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh walked to a wheat field on July 27, 1890, shot himself in the chest with a pistol, then died two days later in his room at the age of 37. But "Van Gogh: The Life," a new book by Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith -- who were honored in 1991 for a biography about American painter Jackson Pollock -- argues the troubled artist might have been murdered. The authors questioned why (and how) the Dutch artist would have obtained a gun, and pointed out that the gun was never found. They also challenged the idea that Van Gogh could have walked all the way back to his room in Auvers-sur-Oise, northwest of Paris, with a serious injury.

With an age difference of over 30 years, the duo had a magical courtship in the 1960s that eventually gave way to the dark side of Grant after they were engaged. Following three years of marriage and not long after the birth of their daughter Jennifer, the couple divorced and Cannon suffered a nervous breakdown.

Suspect Faces Life Term In Los Angeles Arson Rampage

Victoria Kim, Richard Winton And Carol J. Williams -- Los Angeles Times

Hollywood arson suspect Harry Burkhart terrorized Los Angeles residents with a four-day rampage over New Year's weekend because he was "motivated by his rage against Americans," prosecutors alleged in court papers filed Wednesday. Burkhart appeared in court briefly to be arraigned on 37 felony counts of arson that could send him to prison for life. He looked disheveled and distracted as jail authorities have him under suicide watch. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Upinder S. Kalra set bail at $2.85 million and agreed to postpone arraignment until Jan. 24 at the request of Burkhart's public defender. The judge, who declined to hold Burkhart without bail, said the government could bring more evidence at the next hearing to back its contention that the defendant poses a flight risk or could resume setting fires if freed pending trial. ...

The man accused of a California arson rampage was diagnosed by a Canadian doctor as mentally unstable, suffering from a host of disorders including severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress. That diagnosis was part of a legal fight Harry Burkhart and his mother Dorothee waged in 2009, one stop on a twisting trail of courtroom battles that wound from Frankfurt to Vancouver to Los Angeles and culminated in the woman's arrest for, among other things, allegedly refusing to pay for breast-augmentation surgery in her native Germany. ...

Iraq Bombings, Political Crisis Raise Concerns Of Renewed Civil War

Ariel Zirulnick -- Voice Of America

Bombings in Iraq targeted two Shiite neighborhoods of Baghdad today. The violence, coming amid a Sunni-Shiite political crisis, threatens to inflame the tensions that led to civil war in 2006-07. The current political crisis erupted just days after the US military completed its withdrawal in mid-December, with lawmakers from the main Sunni bloc, Iraqiya, boycotting the parliament and cabinet. Shiite Prime Minister Nour al-Maliki accused the top Sunni politician, Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, of organizing death squads against political opponents. Sunnis, a religious minority, accused Mr. Maliki of blocking them from participating in the US-backed powersharing government that is intended to ease sectarian tensions. ...

YEST Egypt's Big Battle: Muslim Brotherhood Vs. The Military

Dan Murphy -- Christian Science Monitor

A big battle is coming in Egypt, as the third round of parliamentary elections wraps up today. On one side is the Muslim Brotherhood, whose superior organization, brand recognition, and public trust made it the big winner in the first two rounds of voting. On the other side is the military junta that has ruled Egypt since Mubarak was forced from power, known as the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). With the third round of the vote nearly done (though runoffs are still to come) the question is: Will the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) take an outright majority of parliament? And will SCAF continue to seek to limit the power of the parliament to write a new constitution? ...

Changes In Cerebrospinal Fluid May Signal Early Alzheimer's

HealthDay News

The indicator of trouble to come, they say, is a shift in the levels of specific components of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain and spinal cord. Among patients already diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, a drop in such levels appears to be a sign of Alzheimer's years before symptoms develop. The discovery, published in the January issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, could potentially aid in the use of disease-modifying therapies, which are designed to work best if applied when a patient is still in the early stages of disease. ...

White House Denies CIA Teleported Obama To Mars

Spencer Ackerman -- Wired

As a young man in the early 1980s, Obama was part of a secret CIA project to explore Mars. The future president teleported there, along with the future head of Darpa. That's the assertion, at least, of a pair of self-proclaimed time-traveling, universe-exploring government agents. Andrew D. Basiago and William Stillings insist that they once served as "chrononauts" at Darpa's behest, traversing the boundaries of time and space. They swear: A youthful Barack Obama was one of them. While his political opponents in 2008 attacked him for never serving, in truth, he was concealing his participation in a hidden CIA intergalactic program hosted at a California community college in 1980. His mission was a perilous one, according to Basiago and Stillings. The CIA wished to "establish a defense regime protecting the Earth from threats from space" as well as a legal claim to "territorial sovereignty." Retired Army Maj. Ed Dames, is alleged to have told a young Obama, "Simply put, your task is to be seen and not eaten." ...

"The Stink Of Intellectual Corruption Is Overpowering"

Rob Waugh -- Daily Mail (UK)

Following on from the original "climategate" emails of 2009, the new package appears to show systematic suppression of evidence, and even publication of reports that scientists knew to to be based on flawed approaches. And, not only do the emails paint a picture of scientists manipulating data, government employees at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) are also implicated. The emails paint a clear picture of scientists selectively using data, and colluding with politicians to misuse scientific information. Clive Crook, a commentator for the Atlantic, who described the earlier inquiries into the Climategate emails as "ineffectual" and "mealy mouthed," reportedly said, "The closed-mindedness of these supposed men of science, their willingness to go to any lengths to defend a preconceived message, is surprising even to me. The stink of intellectual corruption is overpowering." ...

Fresh Round Of Hacked Climate Science Emails Leaked Online

Leo Hickman -- Guardian (UK)

A fresh bunch of private emails exchanged between leading climate scientists throughout the last decade was released online on Tuesday. The unauthorized publication is an apparent attempt to repeat the impact of a similar release of emails on the eve of the Copenhagen climate summit in late 2009. The initial email dump was apparently timed to disrupt the Copenhagen climate talks. It prompted three official inquiries in the UK and two in the US into the working practices of climate scientists. Although these were critical of the scientists' handling of Freedom of Information Act requests and lack of openness they did not find fault with the climate change science they had produced. The emails appear to be genuine, but the University of East Anglia said the "sheer volume of material" meant it was not yet able to confirm that they were. One of the emailers, the climate scientist Prof Michael Mann, has confirmed that he believes they are his messages. The lack of any emails post-dating the 2009 release suggests that they were obtained at the same time, but held back. Their release now suggests they are intended to cause maximum impact before the upcoming climate summit in Durban which starts on Monday. ...

YEST Court Rules Obama Must Prove "Constitutional" Eligiblity

Bob Unruh -- WND

For the first time in dozens of court cases challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to be president, a judge has ruled that Obama must, in order to be a candidate on the Georgia ballot for president in 2012, meet the constitutional demands for candidates for the office. A hearing has been scheduled later this month for evidence on the issue that has plagued Obama and his presidency since long before he took office. At issue is the constitutional requirement that a president be a "natural-born citizen." Some allege he was not born in the U.S. as he has claimed and, therefore, is not eligible. Others, including top constitutional expert Herb Titus, contend that the term "natural-born citizen," which is not defined in the Constitution, would have been understood when the document was written to mean the offspring of two U.S. citizens. That argument is supported by a 19th-century U.S. Supreme Court decision Under that standard, Obama could not qualify, because his father, as identified on the "Certificate of Live Birth" image released by the White House, was a foreign national who came from Kenya to study in the U.S. and never was a citizen. ...

E-Verify Flags Obama's Social Security Number As "Likely Fraudulent"

Jerome R. Corsi -- World Net Daily

A private investigation reveals that the Social Security Number being used by Barack Obama does not pass a check with E-Verify, the electronic system the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrations Services of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has created to verify whether or not prospective employees have the required authorization to work legally in the United States. Over the past few years, the E-Verify system has received national attention because of its ability to determine if prospective employees are illegal immigrants who have entered the United States without the legal authority to work. Entering Obama's Social Security Number into the E-Verify Self Check, the system indicated Obama's Social Security Number produced a mismatch that warranted a visit to the Social Security Administration to investigate the discrepancy. ...

Missing the Plot While Chasing the MacGuffin

by Robert Jay March
Sunday, May 1, 2011

Just as we were about to post the Wednesday, April 27, 2011 issue of MarchReport.com, a bulletin came in to the effect that Barack Obama had finally released his long-form birth certificate. Since it was "press-time," I uploaded the issue, sent out that day's newsletters, and then went to the WhiteHouse.gov web site to download the birth certificate. I revised that day's issue to include the story, with a link to the pdf file of the birth certificate as released by the White House.

Having covered the story that we called "Certifi-Gate" since October 22, 2008, I was relieved that it was finally over ... or, so I thought. I was tired of being called a racist (despite the fact that I myself am racially mixed, being a mix of Polish, Ukrainian and Mongolian ancestry), a right wing conspiracy theorist (despite the fact that the story originated with Linda Starr, a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter and ultra-left-wing zealot who advocated the impeachment of President Bush, the arrest of Harriet Miers, Josh Bolton, and Karl Rove by the U.S. House of Representatives' Sergeant At Arms, and a Radio Left/Daily KOS partisan; and was initially prosecuted by Philip J. Berg, a Democrat, former deputy attorney general of Pennsylvania and former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, who had worked on her campaign). I was sick of the death threats, although those had tapered off in proportion to the decline in Obama's popularity.

After uploading the revised April 27 issue, I took a closer look at the pdf file. Being a computer graphics specialist since 1971, and having made the transition from mainframe to desktop software in 1991, I had worked with Photoshop since version 2 and Illustrator since version 3, I immediately saw evidence of layering in the document. "Oh, Scheißdreck," I said to myself ("Scheißdreck" wasn't the word I used, actually, but some kids read this page, and I'm a father and grandfather myself). The following day I found, unsurprisingly, that others had spotted it as well. I even ran articles and videos over the next couple of days, which described the analysis performed by others.

The layers could be innocent enough, in that some modern scanning software breaks typographic elements into layers to facilitate optical character recognition; but, PhotoShop and Illustrator offer the option of flattening the layers into one. Was the failure to do this the result of a naive operator who was insufficiently familiar with the software, or who simply did not comprehend that the presence of these un-flattened layers would drive those who believed with all their hearts and souls that Obama was a usurper ... a Manchurian Candidate in office ... nuts. Was it simple sloppiness caused by the desire to get this out quickly and embarrass Donald Trump? If so, that sure backfired, having made Trump look like the titan who finally forced Obama's hand. Or, were the layers left in place deliberately, to make it look like the document had been falsified. Was it red-meat for die-hard conspiracy theorists? Was it a new MacGuffin for us to chase, while losing sight of the plot?

Alfred Hitchcock Redux.
With his 1935 film, "The 39 Steps," Alfred Hitchcock popularized the MacGuffin; both the term and the technique. Hitch described the MacGuffin technique as follows in a 1966 interview with François Truffaut:

"It might be a Scottish name, taken from a story about two men in a train. One man says "What's that package up there in the baggage rack?" and the other answers "Oh, that's a MacGuffin." The first one asks "What's a MacGuffin?" "Well," the other man says, "It's an apparatus for trapping lions in the Scottish Highlands." The first man says "But there are no lions in the Scottish Highlands," and the other one answers "Well, then that's no MacGuffin." So you see, a MacGuffin is nothing at all."

The MacGuffin is a person, place or thing that drives the narrative; but, as Hitchcock said in television interviews, "the audience don't care" what it is. I am of the opinion that we have been focusing so intently on tracking down the MacGuffin that we've lost sight of the plot.

Enter Stage Right.
By 2009, Obama had spent in excess of $1.3 Million to prevent his birth certificate from being released, and had succeeded in demonizing everyone who dared ask a question about it.

Enter Donald Trump, and suddenly, Obama releases it without a whimper. The "mainstream media," who as recently as the day before the release, had been saying for years that Obama had already released his birth certificate; that they'd already seen it, and that anyone who questioned Obama's legitimacy was a racist or a loon, suddenly was reporting on the release of his "private, long-form birth certificate" as if it was a mere footnote to the story, rather than the earth-shattering event that it was.

They either could not bring themselves to admit the obvious: that they had been dutifully reporting what the White House told them to report, much as Pravda would have done in the days of the Soviet Union, or they simply could not confront the truth about themselves. The days of reporters wearing out shoe-leather to follow a story where the facts lead have long since been over. This is the day of press-release journalism: A "source" supplies an alleged fact, another "source" confirms it over a three-martini lunch, and that gets reported as fact. The days of Edward R. Murrow, or even Walter Winchell, are over. These are the days of "Ted Baxter," the dim-witted news anchor played by Ted Knight (born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka) on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show," come to life. One of the most valuable lessons learned from the whole Certifi-gate affair is that the "mainstream media," really the commercial media, are completely useless; and, I include Fox News in the bunch; they are simply the least rotten of the bad apples.

Is It Real, Or Is It Memorex?
Frankly, it doesn't matter. We've been "played," but they've shown their hand by going back to the well one too many times.

Why spend, by 2011, in excess of $2 Million to hide something, only to release an apparently tainted version of it when a political opponent was getting traction? In order to answer that, we have to look at what the Obama Administration has done with "ObamaCare"; they're using exactly the same methodology here.

Let me draw you an analogy as a way of easing you into an explanation of the methodology in play here. In the mid 1980's, I saw Geraldine Ferraro on the subway platform at the 71st Street and Continental Avenue station in Queens, N.Y., waiting for the E or F train, both of which stopped there in those days. Having been the first female candidate for Vice President on Walter Mondale's ticket, scrutiny of her husband John Zaccaro's finances contributed to the defeat of the Democrats.

In New York City, you only see celebrities on the subway at two points in their careers: when they're on their way up, and when they're on their way down. In both cases, they're looking for an ego-boost: a "recognition fix." Ferraro was very conspicuously trying to look inconspicuous, if you take my meaning. She was wearing dark glasses, which were very ill-advised on the dimly-lit platform, and was making exaggerated movements, such as pulling her fur collar up to her face, in a faux-attempt to conceal her identity. At that point, her career appeared to be over, and she had no way of knowing that brighter days were ahead. She needed the "recognition fix," and by her movements, sought to assure herself that she was still known and recognized, that she was still a "celebrity."

For three years now, the unreleased birth certificate of Barack Obama has been very conspicuously trying to look inconspicuous. With the help of the Democratic Party's lackeys in the media, the story that should not be talked about was talked about incessantly, making those of us who followed the story look like fools, racists, or both. Never mind that fact that the first candidate whose eligibility under Article II Section 1 of the Constitution (the "natural born" clause) was not Barack Obama, but John McCain. McCain responded by immediately releasing all of his documents, and the Senate responded by passing Senate Resolution 511 , by unanimous consent. The resolution, co-sponsored by then-Senator Barack Obama, recognized that John Sidney McCain, III, is a natural born citizen, and eligible to run for and, if elected, serve as the President. From the bill: "Whereas John Sidney McCain, III, was born to American citizens on an American military base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That John Sidney McCain, III, is a 'natural born Citizen' under Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution of the United States."

Is It Hocus Pocus, Or Is It Bogus POTUS?
So, what does any of this have to do with "ObamaCare"? The methodology being used to push "ObamaCare" forward is the very same methodology as that being used vis-à-vis the birth certificate.

On January 31, 2011, senior federal judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Roger Vinson ruled that "ObamaCare" was unconstitutional in its entirety because it violates the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Having so ruled, an injunction was unnecessary; the Executive Branch was required cease all enforcement of the law because the law itself had been declared null and void. Nonetheless, the Obama Administration, who's most significant accomplishment thus far has been the new and innovative ways it has discovered to circumvent the Constitution, continued to enforce the unconstitutional "law." On March 3, 2011, Vinson stayed his order, giving the Obama administration seven days to file an appeal; just seven days. In his stay order, Vinson harshly criticized the Obama Administration, saying "It was not expected that they would effectively ignore the order and declaratory judgment for 2-1/2 weeks, continue to implement the act and, only then, file a belated motion to 'clarify.'" By dragging its feet and thus (yet again) circumventing the Constitution, the Obama Administration has effectively bought itself free reign to get "ObamaCare" so embedded in the health care system that it will be impossible to dismantle.

The same logic has been at work all along on the birth certificate. Assuming it's real, as I do, the reason for the long stall is obvious. The term "natural born citizen," at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, was commonly understood to mean the offspring of parents who were natural born citizens at their birth; note the plural: parents.

Obama's birth certificate clearly shows that he is the son of a mother who was an American Citizen, and a father who was a Kenyan Citizen. It is on this basis that attorneys such as Mario Apuzzo have filed litigation to have Obama disqualified. In all of my prior editorials and podcasts, I have made clear that I was not willing to take it this far: if the long-form birth certificate were to be released, and it showed Obama was born in the United States, I would be satisfied. That was, and remains, my position on the issue, but, since I am not a Supreme Court Justice, my opinion carries no legal weight.

This, obviously, is the reason why the birth certificate was withheld for so long. Although I consider it unlikely that a Court that has refused to hear legitimate suits on this issue based on spurious issues of "standing" would disqualify Obama based on the interpretation of Apuzzo, et al., the possibility existed. Thus, the "Mystery of The Birth Certificate" was crafted, to keep it from being released long enough that a disqualification of Obama would cause chaos. Were he to be disqualified, every law he signed would be null-and-void; effectively pocket vetoed. Our gutless Supreme Court would have issued another "one-off" ruling, as it did in the case of Bush v. Gore, where it resolved the 2000 presidential election in favor of George W. Bush, declaring that the ruling was "limited to the present circumstances."

Fooled Me Once, Shame on You; Fooled Me Twice, Shame On Me.
I am open to the possibility that the birth certificate released is a forgery, but I seriously doubt it. I am of the opinion that the birth certificate released is real, and that the layers that appear are a result of how modern scanning software scans documents. I also believe that the layers were not flattened to give renewed life to the MacGuffin we've been chasing for three years.

Until Wednesday, the preponderance of evidence lead to the conclusion that Obama had something to hide. Release of the certificate tips the scales. The preponderance of evidence now leads to the belief that he hid the certificate to prevent a challenge based on his father's nationality.

Continuing to pursue the birth certificate issue is a losing proposition, and will guarantee a second term to Barack Obama. It will make it look like all of the accusations of racism and conspiracy theories were correct, and will tarnish any candidate who pursues it.

About a decade ago, I took a vow to myself that I would not lie to anyone about anything, ever. It was a logical progression of a vow I took in the mid-1970's, when my daughter was born: that I would never lie to her about anything, ever. I never did, not even about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. Approximately 10 years ago, my child by then being an adult and on her own, and anyone else I had to protect having passed on, I decided to risk applying that to my dealings with everyone. Over and over again, I have paid a very high price for doing so, but maintain that vow to this day in all my dealings.

In that spirit, it's time to admit that we were "had" by a master practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We followed the facts where they led. That they led exactly where Obama wanted them to lead is no fault of ours. Fooled me once, shame on you; fooled me twice, shame on me. As "The Who" suggested, "Don't get fooled again"

MarchReport.com will continue to cover developments in the Certifi-Gate issue, and will follow the facts where they lead, as we have always done; but, we will do so from the perspective cited above.

MarchReport.com is hardly the most important outlet covering this story, but the White House reads our stuff anyway. In the spirit of respect for an adversary, I request that whomever at the White House is tasked with doing so relay this message: "Well played, Mr. President."

Mitt Romney Signals That Republican Ranks Are Closing Around His Candidacy

Mark Z. Barabak And Seema Mehta -- Los Angeles Times

"Rick has focused his effort, and I think in a wise way, entirely on Iowa," Romney said on ABC's "Good Morning America." "I've been campaigning in other states, putting together the kind of organization which I believe will get me the 1,150 delegates I need." To the surprise and consternation of some backers, Santorum largely abandoned the campaign trail Wednesday, missing an opportunity to appear on TV and capitalize on his come-from-nowhere showing. The first appearance of the former Pennsylvania senator came Wednesday night at a community forum in Brentwood, N.H., well after national news programs had concluded. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who finished a close third in Iowa, also took the day off. Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who the night before seemed prepared to exit after coming in fifth in Iowa, signaled instead that he was staying. In a midmorning tweet that surprised even some advisors, he declared, "Here we come South Carolina!!!" ...

Oil Industry Chief Warns Obama On Canada Pipeline

Matthew Daly -- Associated Press

The oil industry's top lobbyist warned the Obama administration Wednesday to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline or face "huge political consequences" in an election year. Jack Gerard, president of the American Petroleum Institute, said it would be a "huge mistake" for President Barack Obama to reject the 1,700-mile, Canada-to-Texas pipeline. Obama faces a Feb. 21 deadline to decide whether the $7 billion pipeline is in the national interest. "Clearly, the Keystone XL pipeline is in the national interest," Gerard said at the trade association's annual "State of American Energy" event. "A determination to decide anything less than that I believe will have huge political consequences." Gerard said the oil group has teamed up with at least 15 unions to support the pipeline, which would create thousands of jobs. ...

Sanctimonious Or Sincere? Santorum Evoked Strong Feelings In Congress

John Aloysius Farrell -- National Journal

Before losing his Senate seat in a landslide to Robert Casey of Pennsylvania in 2006, Santorum was a champion for social conservatives, striking tough poses on movement issues like abortion and gay rights. His staunch, strident stance played well with evangelical voters in Iowa, but could be problematic as the nominating process shifts to other states with fewer evangelicals, more independents, and higher unemployment rates. Voters considering electability may also question whether he has broad enough appeal to win a general election. Yet the same strong Catholic faith that spurred Santorum to so vigorously promote "family values" (and once placed him on a Time magazine list of the 25 most influential American evangelicals) has also revealed itself in his concern for the hard-pressed low-income and working-class families of his Rust Belt state. Santorum's pugnacity was tempered by time and a role in the Senate Republican leadership during the presidency of George W. Bush, when the senator supported faith-based government programs and tax breaks for the poor and middle class. He voted, as well, for the hugely expensive and unpaid-for addition of prescription-drug coverage to Medicare, and for pork-laden bills that brought federal relief to Pennsylvania. ...

YEST "Lost World" Of Sea Creatures Discovered Near Antarctica

Scientists doing their first exploring of deep-sea vents in the Antarctic said it was unlike anything found around other hydrothermal vents -- a world populated by new species of anemones, predatory sea stars, and piles of hairy-chested yeti crabs. It was "almost like a sight from another planet," said expedition leader Alex Rogers, a professor of zoology at Oxford University. Even in the eye-popping world of deep-sea vents, the Antarctic discoveries stand out, with the unfamiliar species of crabs found crowded in piles around the warm waters emanating from the seafloor. Many of the animals found at the vents have never been found at hydrothermal vents in other oceans, Rogers said. ...

What lies ahead sky-wise for 2012? What celestial events might we look forward to seeing? This article describes the top 12 "skylights" for this coming year, and lists them in chronological order. Not all these events will be visible from any one locality ... for the eclipses, for instance, you'll probably have to do some traveling ... but many can be observed from the comfort of your backyard; and you won't have to wait long for the action to begin. On Jan. 4, the Quadrantid meteor shower will peak with an estimated 100 meteors per hour, according to NASA. ...

The Year 2011 In Obama Scandals -- And Scandal Deniers

Michelle Malkin -- Human Events

The year kicked off in January with the departure of lying eco-radical czar Carol Browner. In backroom negotiations, she infamously bullied auto execs to "put nothing in writing, ever." The previous fall, the White House's own oil spill panel had singled out Browner for misleading the public about the scientific evidence for the administration's Draconian drilling moratorium and "contributing to the perception that the government's findings were more exact than they actually were." The Interior Department inspector general and federal judges likewise blasted drilling ban book-cooking by Browner and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who falsely rewrote the White House drilling ban report to doctor the Obama-appointed panel's own overwhelming scientific objections to the job-killing edict. In February, federal judge Martin Feldman in Louisiana excoriated the Obama Interior Department for defying his May 2010 order to lift its fraudulent ban on offshore oil and gas drilling in the Gulf. He called out the administration's culture of contempt and "determined disregard" for the law. The Obama White House closed out the year with Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri demanding a probe of the smelly $443 million no-bid smallpox antiviral pill contract with Siga Technologies -- controlled by big lefty donor Ron Perelman. ...

Are Americans Really To Be Jailed At Gitmo?

Drew Zahn -- World Net Daily

Buried within an 1,844-page bill currently sitting on Barack Obama's desk awaiting his signature is text that many critics are warning could give the president legal authority to send Americans to jail without charges, without trial, without end. Both the U.S. House and Senate have passed the National Defense Authorization Act, a sweeping piece of legislation that affects dozens of aspects of foreign and military policy, but that was designed primarily to give the military -- and not civilian courts -- the clear authority for prosecuting and jailing terrorists. But voices from across the political spectrum are concerned that the bill opens the door for the military - led by the president as commander in chief -- to indefinitely detain American citizens, even within the U.S. ...

Judge Andrew Napolitano Says Obama "Shredding The Constitution"

Martin Gould And Ashley Martella -- NewsMax

Video AND TEXT. It is so bad he should be impeached over the murder of American terror suspect Anwar al-Awlaki; and, if Congress won't take that action, he should be indicted once he is out of office. In an interview, Napolitano said it doesn't matter that Awlaki was probably guilty - the fact is he was a U.S. citizen and the Constitution outlaws his killing without due process. ...

Is Obama Building An Armageddon-Proof Bunker Under The White House?

Daniel Bates -- Daily Mail (UK)

Workmen have torn up an enormous section of the lawn in front of the White House for a mysterious, top secret project. The hole by the West Wing is roughly 100ft by 100ft in size and has for the first time in living memory left the ground and pipes beneath the Oval office exposed to the elements. The White House already has a number of tunnels; the exact number is, of course, classified. The most well known is the underground corridor that leads to the President's Emergency Operations Center, a supposedly nuclear-proof bunker located six stories under the East Wing. It was to this bunker and its adjacent Executive Briefing Room that Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice, among others, directed Government operations on September 11, 2001. ...

Crony Capitalism And Obama's Anti-Coal Crusade

Ed Lasky -- American Thinker

Barack Obama has long sought to bankrupt the coal industry. But, Cook County politician that he is and always will be, the relevant question is: who benefits from his plans wreck a major portion of our economy while also boosting electricity prices across America? A clue: he and his pals from Chicago have incestuous ties to the one company whose prospects will be boosted by Obama's policies. ...

Obama Nullifies And Ends U.S. Constitution

Sher Zieve -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Sometime in May 2011, Mr. Obama illegally threatened the then-sovereign State of Texas with the US government's establishment of a "No Fly Zone" (a term previously used by the US government to enact wars against enemy countries) over Texas if the State leaders and its population refused to go along with illegal sexual groping intimidation techniques delivered by a US government entity misnamed as the "Transportation Safety Agency." As this illegal act by the Obama regime (also see "Obama Syndicate") was never met by any real or lasting resistance from US Congressional leaders or the old Marxist-Leninist court system, the US Constitution was effectively rendered null and void and the United States of America -- along with the world -- entered into what has come to be known as the "Second Dark Age" of mankind. ...

Federal Debt Will Reach More Than 100% Of GDP For 1st Time Since World War II Under Obama's Budget

Jerome R. Corsi -- World Net Daily

Barack Obama's release of the 2012 budget was met by considerable skepticism, despite administration claims that the proposed spending cuts will put the government on track to half the budget deficit by the end of Obama's first term in office. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,268, down five points on a day in which the market traded mostly down as experts sorted through the details of the budget. Almost immediately after the 216-page plan was released, along with a 1,368-page appendix and a third 360-page volume of historical tables, critics pointed out that Obama's budget conceded that 2011 will see the largest one-year jump in debt in U.S. history, almost $2 trillion in a single year. With the release of these documents, the Obama administration was forced to concede that the national debt will total $15.476 trillion by Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. The debt will reach 102.6 percent of the gross domestic product, or GDP, for the first time since the end of World War II. ...

Mubarak's Regime Feels Obama Is Pushing The Advancement Of The Muslim Brotherhood Against U.S. Interests

World Net Daily

Top members of the Egyptian government say they feel betrayed by President Obama, charging that he is acting against American interests. Obama in recent days urged Mubarak to give up power in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood forms the main opposition. Mubarak has been a staunch U.S. ally and a recipient of billions of dollars in military aid. His regime has long been considered a stabilizing force in the Arab world. ...

Obama Blaming Others For His Failures

Michael Goodwin -- New York Post

When word got out that Barack Obama told an interviewer he had learned from his mistakes, the grandees of the political class swarmed to the bait. Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

Perspective From The Left: How Obama Screws His Base

Eric Alterman -- Daily Beast

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Great news coverage. Too bad you market by exploitation of women and by increasing interest in our already broken sex saturated sex focused culture. Why not drop the rot and go for excellence. I had possibly considered financial support but not with your sex oriented lead headlines. Please consider a change.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Actually, I agree with you. The reason we put the "exploitation" articles in is that, since we began doing so, our traffic has gone up 30%, and with that, advertising revenue. Regretably, sex sells.
I am a disabled, home-bound journalist, and MarchReport.com is how I make my living. I must use any means to get traffic up in order to survive, even if I find the method(s) distasteful. Also, as I have been celibate for 15 years, I find these articles even more offensive than you do. I've experimented with removing them, and traffic goes way down. I have to do what I must to survive, both individually and as a daily web site news platform. Just skip over the articles you find offensive.

Reader Jacob Martin of North Carolina sent in this criticism:

In response to your editorial on BHO's birth certificate, you seem to end it by saying "Oh, well, let's just move on." This attitude is the reason our country is in the shape it is in. If we don't find out for sure and prosecute all involved, to include the "criminal-in-chief", and incarcerate them, then we have no excuse for any future fraud perpetuated on our nation. I've heard that the "government is scared to prosecute" because of the anarchy that will ensure from blacks, well, it's time to deal with that too. Every time something happens in this country and blacks don't like the outcome, they mob, riot, loot and destroy public and private property; and blacks are not alone, as the liberal "march on wall street" group are no better. Our founding fathers stood up for something and we as a nation are letting them, ourselves, and our future down. Liberals as a whole are destroying the very foundation of what this country stands for and it needs to stop now.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

You need to read the Editorial again, as it seems you have missed the key point: I believe the birth certificate Obama released is real, and that the unflattened layers were left there as "red meat" for those unwilling to let it go. After stating that, I went on to discuss the "what if it's not" scenarios.
The Founding Fathers actually lived in world of despots and not-so-benelovent dictators; their courage was forged in that cauldron. The "leaders" of our country today are made of a weaker alloy, where freedom is the assumed norm. The axiom "freedom is not free" is lost on them; only those of us who are the children of Holocaust survivors and Iron Curtain escapees comprehend that it is not. If it turns out that the birth certificate is not real, there is no one in a position of authority who has the courage to act on it: absolutely no one. If the Supreme Court ever actually displayed to courage to hear this case, they'd simply issue another Bush v. Gore type of ruling, and would let Obama remain in office.
Your efforts would be better spent on seeing to it that he is not allowed to serve a second term.

A reader who wished to be referred to by the nom de plume "Great Granny Jane" wrote:

Hi, just wish to let you know how much I love your Report! And please,if possible do not stop ! I would be happy to help, financially, but am almost 90 yrs old, on an extremely limited income, but I will, if I ever have any extra, count on me to send you a wee bit!

    Robert Jay March Responds:

While I welcome donations from those who are willing and able, the fact is that most readers do not donate, and that's fine. I'm delighted to have you as a reader. I thank you for your kind note, and congratulate you on your longevity.
