Farley Granger Dies At 85; Handsome Leading Man Best Known For Roles In Hitchcock Films

Dennis McLellan -- Los Angeles Times

Granger died of natural causes Sunday at his home in Manhattan, said a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office. In a career that began as a teenager when he was discovered in a local play by a casting director for producer Samuel Goldwyn, Granger made his film debut as a Russian youth in the 1943 film "The North Star." In the 1948 film "Rope" with James Stewart, Granger and John Dall play two young friends who commit a murder and hide the body in their apartment. Hitchcock famously shot the film in uninterrupted 10-minute takes. ...

Harry Coover, Creator Of Super Glue, Dies At 94

Dennis McLellan -- Los Angeles Times

Coover died of congestive heart failure Saturday at his home in Kingsport, Tenn., said his daughter, Dr. Melinda Coover Paul. Cooper once was described as "one of the true legends of the adhesive industry," and his invention of what came to be known as Super Glue -- among other brand names -- was the result of an unexpected discovery. As a young chemist with Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y., during World War II, Coover was part of a team researching chemicals known as cyanoacrylates in an attempt to find an optically clear plastic for precision gun sights. ...

Literary Sleuth Jack Cashill Says William Ayers Actually Wrote Obama's Book, "Dreams From My Father"

Douglas Hackleman -- American Thinker

Deconstructing Obama: The Life, Loves, and Letters of America's First Postmodern President

In Jack Cashill's book, "Deconstructing Obama: The Life, Loves, and Letters of America's First Postmodern President," we are left with a very different image from the one portrayed in "Dreams" and by the Obama presidential campaign. When our sleuth has put this puzzle together, the pieces accumulate to reveal an image -- but it is not the one on the box cover. If the fourth estate looked anything like America, the preliminary findings Cashill attempted to share with the press in October 2008 would have established Ayers publicly as the ghost of Obama's "Dreams," and Sarah Palin most likely would be the first female vice president of the United States. Had the press done its own digging and reporting much earlier in the campaign of 2007-2008 for the Democratic Party nomination, Hillary Clinton would be the first pants-suited president of the United States.

This is the full text of this book, made available by the author, which can be downloaded in several formats or read on-line. From the introduction: "In my opinion the entire nuclear enterprise, both power and weapons, represents a wrong turn for humanity, a development that cannot be tamed, that remains life-threatening not only in all its present manifestations, but all future developments that have been contemplated. Meanwhile the public is subjected to a continuous barrage of propaganda and misinformation designed to reconcile it to an increasingly problematical and expensive support of both nuclear power and weapons." ...

How Joan Crawford Ruthlessly Used Her Body To Control Co-Stars, Directors, And Anyone Who Could Advance Her Career

Donald Spoto -- Daily Mail (UK)

Rumours of Joan Crawford's freewheeling sex life had circulated Hollywood for many years. Even so, director Vincent Sherman was taken off guard when in 1949, as part of preparations for a movie called The Damned Don't Cry, she invited him to a studio screening room to watch some of her previous work. As the two sat in the dark, she removed her clothes and initiated an afternoon of wild passion. This article is adapted from "Possessed: The Life of Joan Crawford" by Donald Spoto.

Surprises From Donald Rumsfeld's Memoir. Did Saddam Hussein Target His Kids?

Daniel Bates -- Daily Mail (UK)

Donald Rumsfeld has revealed that Saddam Hussein took out a $60million hit on his daughters in revenge for the slaying of his two sons. The ex-U.S. Secretary of Defense said that the former Iraqi dictator offered the bounty to anybody who brought him both girls' heads. He was given the warning in a October 2003 meeting by which time U.S. forces had killed Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay and his 14-year-old grandson Mustapha. Mr Rumsfeld's comments came as part of a promotion push to accompany his new book "Known and Unknown: A Memoir" which detail his time in office until he retired in December 2006.

Stephen Hawking vs. God

Jim Wilson -- Redding Record Searchlight

Hawking proclaims two mutually excluding propositions in his book, "The Grand Design" according to fellow physicist Dr. Ben Wiker. On the one hand he declares that all existing theories of the origins of the universe are as subjective as they are non-comprehensive. On the other he states that these theories are comprehensive enough - and objective enough - to prove that God neither exists nor is necessary for the existence of everything else. The problem? You cannot have it both ways. If a theory is subjective it is tainted by having been processed through an intellectual lens that sees only what the viewer is prepared in advance to admit. Likewise, if it is not comprehensive it cannot entertain all of the relevant data and so cannot make comprehensive statements. But the declaration that God does not exist is both an objective and a comprehensive statement. It is -- in this case -- a desperate attempt to escape the prime implication of the Big Bang, that there is out there a Big Banger.

Afghan Protest Over Qur'an Burning Leaves 9 Dead

Amir Shah -- Associated Press

The desecration of the Qur'an at a small Florida church has outraged millions of Muslims and others worldwide, fueling anti-American sentiment that only further strains ties between the Afghan government and the West.  New Leak Found At Japan Nuclear Plant; Radioactive Water Leaking Into Ocean

Associated Press

The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex has been spewing radioactivity since March 11, when a magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing wave knocked out power, disabling cooling systems and allowing radiation to seep out of the overheating reactors. Authorities said the leak they identified Saturday could be the source of radioactivity found in coastal waters in recent days. Prime Minister Naoto Kan went to the plant and flew over the tsunami-ravaged coast soon after the wave hit, but Saturday was the first time he set foot in one of the pulverized towns. ...

Fierce Fighting Rages As Gadhafi Regime Rejects "Mad" Ceasefire

Times of India (IN)

Fierce fighting raged on Saturday between the rebels and troops loyal to Muammar Gadhafi for the control of the eastern oil town of Brega as the government of the embattled leader dismissed conditions for a ceasefire as "mad." Opposition forces and Libyan troops were locked in intense battle near Brega and the towns of Az Zintan and Misurata, the last major opposition stronghold in west for weeks amid relentless air strikes by coalition forces. "They are asking us to withdraw from our own cities ... If this is not mad then I don't know what this is. We will not leave our cities," Mussa Ibrahim, the government spokesman, was quoted as saying. ...

One In Five Rebels Fighting Gadhafi Because They Believe He's Jewish

Daily India (IN)

There are rumors that Gadhafi was born out of wedlock to a Jewish woman and an Italian soldier in a village east of Tripoli, but because of the shame surrounding his birth, the baby was given to a Catholic cardinal who in turn gave the child to the sheepherder and his wife. Seventy-one-year-old Mohamed Yusuf al Magariaf, a prominent Libyan dissident who is now based in the U.S., had investigated Gadhafi's past for several of his books and believes much of what the dictator has told people about his origins is a lie. ...

Mahmoud Gebril: The Rebel Who Could Run Libya

Vivienne Walt -- Time Magazine

The last time a Libyan leader traveled to the U.S. and Europe to talk to his international counterparts, he wore desert robes, slept in a Bedouin tent, and vilified the West in incomprehensible diatribes. Now, the Libyan leader holed up in meetings with top diplomats in foreign capitals wears a suit and tie, speaks flawless English, and flaunts a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. In brief: Mahmoud Gebril is about as jolting a contrast from Muammar Gadhafi as one can imagine. Gebril, 58, was picked by the rebel leaders in Benghazi last month as the interim of their National Council - an attempt at cobbling together a shadow government, ready to run Libya the moment Gadhafi leaves. ...

Michael Settle -- Scotland Herald (UK)

Noman Benotman, a friend of Moussa Koussa, who claims he helped to co-ordinate his defection to the UK, who now works as an analyst with the Quilliam Foundation, a counter-terrorism think-tank, made it clear that Koussa would be willing to open up to the British authorities about Libya's past involvement in international terrorism, including the 1988 Lockerbie bombing which claimed 270 lives. Not even one person in 10 believes Barack Obama has shown that he is eligible to be president of the United States, according to a stunning new scientific poll that also reveals political Independents have less tolerance than even Republicans for his efforts to obfuscate the issue. Methinks Thou Dost Protest Too Much

David Jackson -- USA Today

Barack Obama worked out his comedy chops last night, delivering a funny monologue at the annual Gridiron press dinner -- with the best bit coming right up front. As the Marine Band performed "Hail to the Chief" upon Obama's introduction, the president asked them to stop and perform the tune he requested earlier -- Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." Just a little message to those of us who don't believe Obama was born in Hawaii. [Editor's Note: It seems he just can't leave it alone. Is it significant that the remarks were made on March 15? As Brutus said in Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" (Act 1, scene 2), "A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March."] ...

Supreme Court To Give Obama Eligibility Case 2nd Conference

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

In a stunning move, the U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled another "conference" on a legal challenge to Barack Obama's eligibility to occupy the Oval Office, but officials there are not answering questions about whether two justices given their jobs by Obama will participate. The court has confirmed that it has distributed a petition for rehearing in the case brought by attorney John Hemenway on behalf of retired Col. Gregory Hollister and it will be the subject of a conference on March 4. It was in January that the court denied, without comment, a request for a hearing on the arguments. But the attorney at the time had submitted a motion for Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, who were given their jobs by Obama, to recuse. Should Obama ultimately be shown to have been ineligible for the office, his actions, including his appointments, at least would be open to challenge and question. ...

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

Video AND TEXT. MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews, who earlier announced he is the "enemy of birthers" but said even so he thinks Barack Obama should release his birth certificate, now has suggested that the online, computer-generated image of a Certification of Live Birth from Hawaii is the only document Obama has. Earlier, he was addressing Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie's statement that he was going to chase down Obama's original state birth certificate to prove his eligibility. At the time, Matthews said, "I don't understand why doesn't the president just say send me a copy right now ... let's get this crappy story dead." Abercrombie later said, according to his friend radio personality Mike Evans, that the document doesn't exist and expressed concern that the controversy will be a major issue for Obama during his planned 2012 presidential re-election campaign. Evans related how Abercrombie had taken over the governor's office assuming he'd be able to clear things up, but then couldn't find the records he was seeking. Former Hawaii elections clerk Tim Adams has now signed an affidavit swearing he was told by his supervisors in Hawaii that no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Barack Obama Jr. in Hawaii and that neither Queens Medical Center nor Kapi'olani Medical Center in Honolulu had any record of Obama having been born in their medical facilities. Adams' affidavit continues, "Senior officers in the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division told me on multiple occasions that no Hawaii long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Senator Obama in the Hawaii Department of Health and there was no record that any such document had ever been on file in the Hawaii Department of Health or any other branch or department of the Hawaii government." ...

What Has Obama Said About His Own Birth?

Jack Cashill -- American Thinker

In his 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father, Obama made the same claim. "He had left Hawaii back in 1963," he wrote of Obama Sr., "when I was only two years old." When Obama wrote this in Dreams, he may have been relating what he had himself been told. By 2009, he knew better, but so vested was he in the story, and so useful had it been in his rise, that he continued to dissemble, even before millions of schoolchildren. There are clues in Dreams, however, which suggest that Obama was creating a fiction for future use that he already knew to be untrue. ...

Howard Dean Says, "From A Partisan Point Of View, I Think It Would Be The Best Thing In The World To Have A Shutdown"

Roger Aronoff -- Canada Free Press (CA)

As a deadline approaches that could mean shutting down the non-essential operations of the federal government, both sides are weighing the potential impact on their political fortunes. The Republicans are squabbling among themselves over how much to cut from the remainder of the 2011 Budget, the Democrats have crafted a policy of offering minimal savings, as well as a campaign to label the Republicans as Tea Party extremists. Part of the issue that Democrats are labeling as "extreme" are the so-called "riders," such as de-funding Planned Parenthood and preventing the Environmental Protection Agency from doing certain things related to the regulation of carbon emissions that the EPA enacted after Congress failed to achieve it through legislation. ...

Clinton: Obama Will Ignore Congress On Libya War

Alex Newman -- New American Magazine

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a classified congressional hearing that the Obama regime would ignore Congress if it tried to rein in the war in Libya. When Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) asked Clinton during the briefing what the regime's response would be to Congress exercising its constitutional authority over war, the Secretary said Obama would proceed with the war anyway, according to a senior Republican lawmaker in attendance. Apparently the regime has "legal opinions" that justify the "kinetic military action." The Secretary's answer reportedly surprised even attendees because "Clinton plainly admitted the administration would ignore any and all attempts by Congress to shackle President Obama's power as Commander in Chief to make military and wartime decisions." ...

Federal Debt Will Reach More Than 100% Of GDP For 1st Time Since World War II Under Obama's Budget

Jerome R. Corsi -- World Net Daily

Barack Obama's release of the 2012 budget was met by considerable skepticism, despite administration claims that the proposed spending cuts will put the government on track to half the budget deficit by the end of Obama's first term in office. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,268, down five points on a day in which the market traded mostly down as experts sorted through the details of the budget. Almost immediately after the 216-page plan was released, along with a 1,368-page appendix and a third 360-page volume of historical tables, critics pointed out that Obama's budget conceded that 2011 will see the largest one-year jump in debt in U.S. history, almost $2 trillion in a single year. With the release of these documents, the Obama administration was forced to concede that the national debt will total $15.476 trillion by Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. The debt will reach 102.6 percent of the gross domestic product, or GDP, for the first time since the end of World War II. ...

Obama Blaming Others For His Failures

Michael Goodwin -- New York Post

When word got out that Barack Obama told an interviewer he had learned from his mistakes, the grandees of the political class swarmed to the bait. Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

An Inconvenient Lie

National Weather Agency Refutes Gore's Claim Recent Snowstorms Caused By Global Warming

Noel Sheppard -- News Busters

NOAA posted the following article at its Climate Watch magazine: "This is the second consecutive very wintry winter in the eastern United States. Last year, NOAA climate scientists concluded the record-breaking snowstorms most likely resulted from the combination of two natural climate patterns: El Nino and the Arctic Oscillation. So what about this year? Last winter's El Nino has flipped to La Nina, as temperatures in the eastern tropical Pacific have been cooler than normal. But the Arctic Oscillation seems to be in a repeat pattern, with conditions this December and January very similar to last winter, according to Deke Arndt, Chief of the Climate Monitoring Branch at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center." Not at all surprisingly, the man that just this past Friday accused Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and the Wall Street Journal of being part of a conspiracy to mislead people about the dangers of manmade global warming was once again guilty of it himself. ...

Climate Change Claims Melt Away

Investor's Business Daily

In 2007, the U.N. said the Himalayan glaciers will be gone by 2035 due to man-made global warming. Turns out, though, that the claim was nonsense. It was not based on scientific research but on one scientist's guesswork, which was lifted from a telephone interview. New research indicates that half of the glaciers in the Himalaya's Karakoram range are advancing. Scientists from the University of California Santa Barbara and the University of Potsdam, who cited "erroneous reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change," strongly suggest that the "settled" science is not so clear. ...

Oh No, Not Another Unbiased Documentary About 'Climate Change'

James Delingpole -- Guardian (UK)

The "consensus" on 'Climate Change' exaggerates the number of scientists who believe in Man Made Global Warming and it grotesquely underestimates the number who have many good reasons for suspecting that there is far, far more to "Climate Change" than anthropogenic CO2. What's more such "consensus" as there is is an artificial construct. It has not been subjected to the rigour of an open or even semi-open market. It is the creation, almost entirely, of politically-driven funding from US government, from various UN bodies, from the EU, from left-leaning charitable foundations on a scale unprecedented in the history of science. So far, in real terms, no less than five times the amount of the Manhattan Project has been squandered on research into AGW. For that kind of money you can buy an awful lot of scientists prepared to suspend any belief they might have that global warming is anything other than man-made. ...

More Than 1000 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims

Climate Depot

PDF File More than 1,000 dissenting scientists (updates previous 700 scientist report) from around the globe have now challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. This new 2010 321-page Climate Depot Special Report -- updated from the 2007 groundbreaking U.S. Senate Report of over 400 scientists who voiced skepticism about the so-called global warming-consensus -- features the skeptical voices of over 1,000 international scientists, including many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN IPCC. This updated 2010 report includes a dramatic increase of over 300 additional (and growing) scientists and climate researchers since the last update in March 2009. ...

At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. Please report broken links to us using our "Rants & Raves" form by clicking here. Archives will be deleted as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
