Surprises From Donald Rumsfeld's Memoir. Did Saddam Hussein Target His Kids?

Donald Rumsfeld has revealed that Saddam Hussein took out a $60million hit on his daughters in revenge for the slaying of his two sons. The ex-U.S. Secretary of Defense said that the former Iraqi dictator offered the bounty to anybody who brought him both girls' heads. He was given the warning in a October 2003 meeting by which time U.S. forces had killed Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay and his 14-year-old grandson Mustapha. Mr Rumsfeld's comments came as part of a promotion push to accompany his new book "Known and Unknown: A Memoir" which detail his time in office until he retired in December 2006.

Stephen Hawking vs. God

Hawking proclaims two mutually excluding propositions in his book, "The Grand Design" according to fellow physicist Dr. Ben Wiker. On the one hand he declares that all existing theories of the origins of the universe are as subjective as they are non-comprehensive. On the other he states that these theories are comprehensive enough - and objective enough - to prove that God neither exists nor is necessary for the existence of everything else. The problem? You cannot have it both ways. If a theory is subjective it is tainted by having been processed through an intellectual lens that sees only what the viewer is prepared in advance to admit. Likewise, if it is not comprehensive it cannot entertain all of the relevant data and so cannot make comprehensive statements. But the declaration that God does not exist is both an objective and a comprehensive statement. It is -- in this case -- a desperate attempt to escape the prime implication of the Big Bang, that there is out there a Big Banger.

Sporadic demonstrations across the Persian Gulf kingdom began on February 14 with what organizers called a "Day of Rage" against the government. Eventually, protesters massed at Manama's Pearl Roundabout, but security forces later used deadly force to clear the area. Following further violence and mounting international criticism, the government decided on Saturday that it would allow demonstrators to converge at the symbolic site, and the crown prince called for direct dialogue with all of Bahrain's political parties. Opposition leaders rejected the offer and said they needed time to formulate an agenda specifying their demands before any talks could take place. ...

Egypt's top prosecutor on Monday asked the Foreign Ministry to seek help from foreign governments to seize ousted president Hosni Mubarak's assets, Egyptian state media reported. Public prosecutor Abdel Magid Mahmud said the request will also cover assets in the name of Mubarak's wife, Suzanne, his sons Alaa and Gamal, and their wives. The move appeared to be an attempt to appease demonstrators who forced Mubarak to step down Feb. 11, after 18 days of street protests. One of the protesters' top demands has been holding the former president accountable for what they call widespread graft and corruption. ...

It was a front page few thought they would ever see. After weeks of dismissing pro-change Egyptian protesters as traitors, anarchists and malevolent foreign agents -- at one point it was even suggested that demonstrators were secretly receiving free meals from the American fast-food giant KFC -- the country's most venerable official daily carried a single headline in the heady hours after Hosni Mubarak's fall. The people have brought down the regime, declared Al-Ahram, triumphantly. As one newspaper vendor remarked, state-controlled media's own revolution had begun. But discontent at the status quo within Egypt's colossal state media complex -- which comprises eight TV channels, numerous radio stations, dozens of newspapers and magazines and 46,000 employees in Cairo alone -- had been rumbling long before Mubarak's resignation. ...

The bloody battle for control of Libya, where leader Moammar Gadhafi turned his military forces loose on civilians Monday after days of protests, could have repercussions far beyond the isolated North African nation. The faltering government struck back with a vengeance at mounting protests against his 42-year rule, as security forces and militiamen backed by helicopters and warplanes besieged parts of the capital of Tripoli, according to witnesses and news reports. ...

It seemed unlikely that Libya, sandwiched between regime collapse in Tunisia and regime collapse in Egypt, could be untouched by the movement. Gadhafi has had dominion over an increasingly malcontent country, and the citizens have been increasingly disgusted by the gap between his rhetoric of direct democracy and his autocratic grip on power. It is striking that the protests began in the eastern part of Libya. The area around Benghazi has always been the one least under Qaddafi's thumb, and most of his problems have originated there. Gadhafi's tribe is a desert one, and the verdant east resents his authority. ...

 Five bodies were found in a bank set ablaze in unrest that erupted in Morocco at the weekend after thousands of people demonstrated in several cities for change, the government said Monday. ...

The Wisconsin state Senate's 14 Democrats left Madison last week, and Republican leaders in the chamber now say they'll be on the floor Tuesday with or without them. Provisions of Governor Scott Walker's budget repair bill would radically restrict the ability of state workers to collectively bargain, and Senator Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) said Democrats will stay away as long as necessary to oppose that. "He wanted us to come back and do our jobs and debate the proposals," Erpenbach said of statements Walker had made. "And then in the very next sentence, he says he's not going to negotiate this. Federal Debt Will Reach More Than 100% Of GDP For 1st Time Since World War II Under Obama's Budget

Barack Obama's release of the 2012 budget was met by considerable skepticism, despite administration claims that the proposed spending cuts will put the government on track to half the budget deficit by the end of Obama's first term in office. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,268, down five points on a day in which the market traded mostly down as experts sorted through the details of the budget. Almost immediately after the 216-page plan was released, along with a 1,368-page appendix and a third 360-page volume of historical tables, critics pointed out that Obama's budget conceded that 2011 will see the largest one-year jump in debt in U.S. history, almost $2 trillion in a single year. With the release of these documents, the Obama administration was forced to concede that the national debt will total $15.476 trillion by Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. The debt will reach 102.6 percent of the gross domestic product, or GDP, for the first time since the end of World War II. ...

(Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
