Hawking proclaims two mutually excluding propositions in his book, "The Grand Design" according to fellow physicist Dr. Ben Wiker. On the one hand he declares that all existing theories of the origins of the universe are as subjective as they are non-comprehensive. On the other he states that these theories are comprehensive enough - and objective enough - to prove that God neither exists nor is necessary for the existence of everything else. The problem? You cannot have it both ways. If a theory is subjective it is tainted by having been processed through an intellectual lens that sees only what the viewer is prepared in advance to admit. Likewise, if it is not comprehensive it cannot entertain all of the relevant data and so cannot make comprehensive statements. But the declaration that God does not exist is both an objective and a comprehensive statement. It is -- in this case -- a desperate attempt to escape the prime implication of the Big Bang, that there is out there a Big Banger.

The Leno-O'Brien debacle might not have happened if Jay Leno had used representation. As Bill Carter tells the story in his hugely entertaining recap, The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy, Leno fired his manager in 1992, shortly after taking over from Johnny Carson as host of the "Tonight Show." Leno believed that his manager had said things to poison his relationship with Carson. As it was, David Letterman, who, as the host of "Late Night," had been following Carson for eleven years and was considered the heir apparent, felt resentment about being passed over for Leno, whose reputation had been built partly on his many guest appearances on "Late Night." Leno was professional to the core, but he did not want business to ruin friendship. He never used a manager or an agent for his contract renewals again.

In George W. Bush's new memoir, Decision Points, the former president explains that the CIA approached him about the possibility of waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the al-Qaeda operative often called "the architect of 9/11." In his memoir, Bush writes that his response was "Damn right." This seems to be a straightforward admission that Bush approved the use of waterboarding on a detainee--even though this technique is widely regarded as inhumane, and its use is thought by many to violate the United Nations Convention Against Torture, of which the United States is a signatory. (In media outside the U.S., waterboarding is almost always referred to as torture.)

Almost everyone knows how his elder brother Christopher Hitchens feels, but less well known are the views of Peter Hitchens, a conservative columnist for the The Mail on Sunday in London, who was inspired to write his latest book, The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith, because of the "dangerous" teachings of men like his brother. It is not a faith book, at least not in the conventional sense of defending doctrine or even making a philosophical case for God. The book is devoid of "faith talk"; the name Jesus does not appear once in the book. "Remember, I'm an ex-Trotskyite, so I'm quite suspicious of the man of total conviction and certainty. What I did not want, coming away from Marxist utopianism, was to find another mirror image of utopianism," he said. "The argument I'm making for religion is largely a negative one: if you get rid of [God] you will be in a tremendous fix."

Try as he might, police officer Pupp could do nothing to dampen either Ignatz's violent obsession or Krazy's misplaced ardor for the mouse that he or she (we're never quite sure of Krazy's sex) called "L'il Anjil."

Evans says creationism -- the belief that God created the Earth around 6,000 years ago in six days -- was commonplace in her town. Unable to reconcile science with her faith, Evans embraced evolution. "I learned you don't have to choose between loving and following Jesus and believing in evolution," she said. She chronicled her personal journey in a new memoir, Evolving in Monkey Town: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask the Questions.

A war of words has broken out between Ricky Gervais and Golden Globes organisers amid confusion over whether he will present the ceremony again next year. The 49-year-old comedian insists that a senior executive at NBC, the U.S. network that airs the show, told him not to rule out a third gig. But in a statement yesterday The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which hosts the awards bash, issued a denial. Taking to his blog last night he said he is currently "pretty sure" he "shouldn't" do the awards show again. However he added: "But I'll tell you this. It was axed from the History Channel under a cloud of controversy, but The Kennedys miniseries has found a home on a U.S. cable TV station. Fledgling network ReelzChannel announced today that the multimillion-dollar production will begin its run on April 3. The 8-part miniseries, a portrait of the Kennedy family which stars Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes as John and Jackie, was produced by the History Channel. But it was abruptly yanked from the upcoming lineup last month. That network said the project, which , did not fit the 'History brand'. Showtime subsequently passed on the film. ReelzChannel is available in 60 million homes. ...

Al Jazeera English's leading coverage of the uprising in Egypt is giving it new ammunition in its long-running battle against a TV blackout in the US. Although it is broadcast in 200 million homes around the world, cable and satellite-TV companies have shut the Qatar-based news organization out of the US market, fearing political repercussions and the loss of viewers. Despite launching in 2006, the channel is available on just a handful of cable systems. Media critic Jeff Jarvis is leading a campaign to get cable companies to add Al Jazeera English, likening its on-the-ground reporting to CNN's breakout coverage during the first Gulf War. ...

Top members of the Egyptian government say they feel betrayed by President Obama, charging that he is acting against American interests. Obama in recent days urged Mubarak to give up power in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood forms the main opposition. Mubarak has been a staunch U.S. ally and a recipient of billions of dollars in military aid. His regime has long been considered a stabilizing force in the Arab world. ...

When word got out that Barack Obama told an interviewer he had learned from his mistakes, the grandees of the political class swarmed to the bait. Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
