There is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim." ...

Sarah Palin's remarks Wednesday in which she accused critics who would tie her political tone to the Arizona shootings of committing a "blood libel" against her have prompted an instant and pronounced backlash from some in America's Jewish community. "The term 'blood libel' is not a synonym for 'false accusation,' " said Simon Greer, president of Jewish Funds for Justice. "It refers to a specific falsehood perpetuated by Christians about Jews for centuries, a falsehood that motivated a good deal of anti-Jewish violence and discrimination. Unless someone has been accusing Ms. Palin of killing Christian babies and making matzoh from their blood, her use of the term is totally out of line." ...

Arizona massacre gunman Jared Loughner's downward spiral may have been touched off by a broken high school romance and fueled by drug use -- but it was not politically motivated, according to his best friend in high school. Zach Osler, in an interview Wednesday with ABC's "Good Morning America," said: "He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn't listen to political radio. He didn't take sides. States, in bankruptcy court, should be able to reorganize their finances so as to put themselves back on a stable footing. Initially, municipal-bond buyers will protest the lack of federal assistance and may even deny states and localities access to the bond market at any interest rate. But once the states reorganize, they should be able to proceed normally -- just as New York City did after its financial meltdown in the '70s. Such reorganizations needn't require any ongoing federal involvement. The procedure would let the states help themselves, giving governors and legislatures a third way out of their financial mess. Raise taxes, cut spending or ... alter union contracts. Each state would face the choice of whether to wallow in overspending or take steps to correct it. ...

Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., on Monday referenced a comment by Angle in calling for a change in the nation's political dialogue -- by will or by law. "'Don't retreat, reload.' Someone in Nevada saying we may need to use Second Amendment remedies. There's only one way to read this," Slaughter said. Sherman said that even if language used by Angle and her supporters hadn't incited the shootings in Arizona, eventually it will lead to violence. ...

North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles poses a direct threat to the United States, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday, a blunt assessment of the risk posed by an erratic dictatorship that considers the U.S. its foremost enemy. North Korea will have a limited ability to deliver a weapon to U.S. shores within five years using intercontinental ballistic missiles, Gates predicted. Kelsey Hawkes described how Jared Loughner, whom she dated for a year in 2005 when she was 15, turned from a normal person into a 'psycho' when she ended their relationship. The student claimed Loughner 'fell apart' when she said she wanted to move on and looked like he had 'nothing to live for." Over the following months she watched in dismay as her former love began drinking and taking drugs before cutting himself off from their mutual friends. His warped journey is said to have reached its terrible climax last week when he opened fire at a meeting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, seriously injuring her and killing six others. While investigating allegations of sexual abuse against a child, FDLE agents last fall asked Windermere police Chief Daniel Saylor to turn over his records in the case. But Saylor told them most of the records had been "lost or misplaced," according to court documents. In fact, agents said Wednesday, Saylor, who has been chief since 2002, had shut down the investigation because the suspect was his friend. On Wednesday, Saylor was arrested on corruption charges, and his friend Scott Frederick Bush of Windermere was jailed on child abuse charges that carry the potential of life in prison. ...

Police officers descended on a housing complex in Diamondhead, Mississippi, after witnessing a drug deal taking place nearby. The suspects were reportedly taken to a hospital for decontamination before they were taken into custody. Hazmat teams then entered the condo to dispose of chemicals found on the site. Brandi Favre, 34, has previously been charged with shoplifting and unlawful use of a weapon. ...

A majority of Americans reject the view that heated political rhetoric was a factor in the weekend shootings in Arizona which killed six and critically wounded a congresswoman, a CBS News poll said on Tuesday. Since the Saturday incident in which Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot at point-blank range, various politicians and commentators have said a climate in which strong language and ideological polarization is common may have contributed to the attack. Rejection of a link was strongest among Republicans, 69 percent of whom felt harsh rhetoric was not related to the attack, while 19 percent thought it played a part. Among Democrats 49 percent placed no blame on the heated political tone against 42 percent who did. Among independents the split was 56 percent to 33 percent. Read Roger Ailes' remarks HERE. ...

The actions were prompted by the Westboro Baptist Church, a publicity-seeking Kansas congregation known for demonstrating at the funerals of U.S. soldiers, arguing that their deaths are retribution by God for America's acceptance of homosexuality. The church announced it would protest Green's funeral, scheduled for Thursday, because the family is Catholic. The protest drew instant and unanimous condemnation from Arizonans. "Protesting or picketing outside the funeral of an innocent victim is despicable," said Arizona House Speaker Kirk Adams. ...

 A judge on Tuesday ordered Conrad Murray, the personal physician of Michael Jackson, to stand trial for involuntary manslaughter after hearing testimony that he administered a dose of a powerful anesthetic and other sedatives then left the pop star alone. ...

The Los Angeles coroner has previously ruled Jackson's death was caused mainly by two drugs -- propofol and lorazepam. Murray has admitted giving the drugs to Jackson, but pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. Other prescription medications were found in Jackson's system, but a full autopsy report lists "acute propofol intoxication" as the principal cause of death. Leading experts on China today expressed surprise at the speed with which the country's J20 stealth aircraft was developed, but said the country's military prowess was still relatively backward and way behind that of the US. The J20 was not as stealthy as the US F22 stealth fighter, but was "good enough for what China wants to do with it", Gary Li, of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said. ...

Today China surpasses the U.S. in energy consumption. It was not expected to do that until 2015. It now ranks second behind the U.S. in its economic standing in the world, surpassing Japan. Also, China owns 25 percent of America's national debt and remains our largest ongoing lender creditor. If Beijing were to stop lending to us, the interest rates we would have to pay others to lend to us would be so high that they could cause another Great Recession. China's huge edge in our balance of trade is a serious situation which doesn't appear solvable without tariffs or quotas, which are unacceptable to the Obama administration. The 10-month trade imbalance between China and the U.S. is $227 billion through October 2010. All this underlines the dangers that face us in the event of war with China. Why should we even talk of war? Because the U.S. has a commitment to defend Taiwan should Beijing carry out an attack. That China is capable of attacking Taiwan is not in doubt. ...

Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

Washington has not witnessed so much top level White House intrigue since October 20, 1973, when a Saturday night saw President Nixon fire the Watergate independent counsel, the U.S. attorney general, and the deputy attorney general in the "Saturday Night Massacre." Just ten days earlier, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned after being charged with accepting bribes while governor of Maryland. In the case of Barack Obama, the senior firings are not happening during a single nght but the recent involuntary sudden departures of the White House chief of staff and national security adviser, along with what is a putative president who is suffering from Nixonian levels of paranoia, depression, and schizophrenia, has some top-level administration officials considering the first-ever invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment -- the involuntary removal of the president from office. The White House meltdown has the Washington political circuit buzzing under the surface. ...

The Obama administration seems determined to attain a stranglehold grip on the world wide web by whatever means possible. The true motivation behind doing so was revealed when Senator Joe Lieberman, a key supporter of cybersecurity legislation that would hand Obama the power to shut down portions of the Internet for months with no congressional oversight, told CNN's Candy Crowley that the ultimate intention was was to mimic the Communist Chinese system of Internet policing.

The Arizona law reflects the same language as the wording in federal immigration law. The state law doesn't create its own immigration policy. That makes the administration's legal challenge all the more specious. Its arguments parrot those the ACLU, the National Council of La Raza and similar activist groups make whenever a state or locality tries to enact a remedy to immigration-related problems that arise in their community. The Supreme Court and several appellate courts have treaded lightly in cases involving federal pre-emption. The courts have taken a cautionary stance when pre-emption is claimed, because of the slippery slope that easy findings of pre-emption would create. ...

Obama is a big spender and an advocate for bigger, more activist government. So was Bush, though not, perhaps, to the same degree. The same people who were mad at the latter were mad at the former, and have enlisted in the Tea Parties. It is only in the mind of a dedicated statist that the desire for smaller, more limited government can seem extreme, radical, or unhealthy. The Tea Party movement is not outrageous or outlandish or even, as someone suggested here on Thomas Jefferson Street just the other day, unthinking. The sense of panic felt on the left has become voluble, making the latest volley of assaults on the Tea Party an effort at explaining that the Tea Party movement is of its very nature irrational, a product of anger, and ultimately not in the country's best interest. ...

Regarding this country's immigration, the only thing wrong with the system in place is the irremediable damage of decades of unwillingness to adequately fund it, the blatant refusal to enforce it, and the preposterous assumption of its harmlessness by the Left. Every president and Congress since Lyndon Johnson shares culpability for the current conglomeration of the 15-20 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Left needs the expedited conversion from illegal to citizen for votes, and the Right needs them regardless of their citizenship status for cheap labor. ...

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
