The Leno-O'Brien debacle might not have happened if Jay Leno had used representation. As Bill Carter tells the story in his hugely entertaining recap, The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy, Leno fired his manager in 1992, shortly after taking over from Johnny Carson as host of the "Tonight Show." Leno believed that his manager had said things to poison his relationship with Carson. As it was, David Letterman, who, as the host of "Late Night," had been following Carson for eleven years and was considered the heir apparent, felt resentment about being passed over for Leno, whose reputation had been built partly on his many guest appearances on "Late Night." Leno was professional to the core, but he did not want business to ruin friendship. He never used a manager or an agent for his contract renewals again.

Bush's new memoir, Decision Points, the former president explains that the CIA approached him about the possibility of waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the al-Qaeda operative often called "the architect of 9/11." In his memoir, Bush writes that his response was "Damn right." This seems to be a straightforward admission that Bush approved the use of waterboarding on a detainee--even though this technique is widely regarded as inhumane, and its use is thought by many to violate the United Nations Convention Against Torture, of which the United States is a signatory. (In media outside the U.S., waterboarding is almost always referred to as torture.)

Almost everyone knows how his elder brother Christopher Hitchens feels, but less well known are the views of Peter Hitchens, a conservative columnist for the The Mail on Sunday in London, who was inspired to write his latest book, The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith, because of the "dangerous" teachings of men like his brother. It is not a faith book, at least not in the conventional sense of defending doctrine or even making a philosophical case for God. The book is devoid of "faith talk"; the name Jesus does not appear once in the book. "Remember, I'm an ex-Trotskyite, so I'm quite suspicious of the man of total conviction and certainty. What I did not want, coming away from Marxist utopianism, was to find another mirror image of utopianism," he said. "The argument I'm making for religion is largely a negative one: if you get rid of [God] you will be in a tremendous fix."

Fight Over Evolution Still Simmers 85 Years After Scopes Trial

"I was taught that if you don't interpret Genesis 1 and 2 literally, then you don't take the Bible seriously," said Evans, 29. "I held on tightly to that for a long time." Evans says creationism -- the belief that God created the Earth around 6,000 years ago in six days -- was commonplace in her town. Unable to reconcile science with her faith, Evans embraced evolution. "I learned you don't have to choose between loving and following Jesus and believing in evolution," she said. She chronicled her personal journey in a new memoir, Evolving in Monkey Town: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask the Questions.

 Woman Who Cannot Feel Fear May Help In Treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

A woman who cannot feel afraid because of a missing structure in her brain could help scientists discover treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research published in Current Biology showed the woman felt no fear in a variety of scary situations. These included exposure to snakes and spiders, horror films and a "haunted house." The woman feels other emotions but said as an adult, she had never felt afraid. She is the first known case of someone who is unable to process fear. Researchers at the University of Iowa said her inability to feel frightened was because she is missing a structure in her brain called the amygdala. ...

The Climate Mafia Gather In Cancun

It is time for the U.S. government to acknowledge that a climate mafia has existed since the gathering in Kyoto, Japan, to establish the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The December 11, 1997 treaty was, upon ratification, to go into force on February 16, 2005. Its expressed purpose was to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the purpose of avoiding "global warming," but its real purpose was to create an entirely bogus system of emissions trading to be known as "the carbon market." On July 25, 1997, the U.S. Senate, responsible for the ratification of international treaties, unanimously passed (95-0) a resolution rejecting the Kyoto Treaty on the grounds that it "would result in serious harm to the economy of the United States." As this is written, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is striving to secure authorization to regulate GHG emissions despite massive evidence that they pose no threat to the environment and despite the fact that this authority would, as in 1997, cripple and likely destroy an already ailing economy. ...

Global Warming Re-Branded As 'Global Climate Disruption'

Having noticed that there hasn't actually been any global warming since 1998, he feels it ought to be called "global climate disruption" instead. That way whether it gets warmer or colder, wetter or drier, less climatically eventful or more climatically eventful, the result will be the same: it can all be put down to "global climate disruption." And that will be good, because it will give Holdren the excuse to introduce all the draconian measures he has long believed necessary if "global climate disruption" is to be averted: viz, state-enforced population control; a rewriting of the legal code so that trees are able to sue people; and the wholesale destruction of the US economy ("de-development" as he put it in the 1973 eco-fascist textbook he co-wrote Paul and Anne Ehrlich Human Ecology: Global Problems And Solutions). ...

Deprived by trial judge Col. Denise Lind of any opportunity to defend himself by introducing evidence or expert testimony, Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, the Army doctor questioning Obama's eligibility, has been convicted on all counts. Lakin faces as many as 42 months in prison, forfeiture of pay and retirement benefits and dismissal from the service after being convicted of four felonies. ...

 In an interview with Peter Boyles on 630 AM KHOW radio in Denver, Colo., General Thomas McInerney, speaking of Lakin, said: "He is not a birther, he is a constitutionalist. Now, it shouldn't be the job of a lieutenant colonel and flight surgeon in the U.S. Army to be the constitutionalist. It's the job of the Congress and the executive agency to do that. But we've had 44 presidents of the United States and only one, the current president, has not shown a valid birth certificate." Listen to the entire interview here.

US Army Colonel Denise R. Lind, the presiding judge in a lawsuit that questions Obama's natural born status and requests that the original birth certificate be presented as evidence when Judge Lind said "opening up such evidence could be an "embarrassment" to the president." So it appears that our United States Army, at least in the person of one Army Colonel Denise R. Lind, has placed in jeopardy the 18-year career of a highly decorated medical officer, Lt. Colonel Terry Lakin, over the supposed "embarrassment" of a very possible usurper in our nation's highest elected office who may not even be eligible to be there. Is this the sort of justice we will now be faced with in this once Land of the Free and Home of the Brave? ...

It may be shocking to many, but the birthplace of Obama is not the primary issue when considering natural born status. The Constitution requires in part that, "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." A combination of citizenship and something more is required. The something more begins with parents who were United States citizens at the time of the candidate's birth. That's really a matter of common sense. Citizenship status of one's parents, it appears, is the primary consideration for natural born citizen status. ...

The Supreme Court has again cast aside an appeal that raised doubts about Barack Obama's U.S. citizenship. The justices without comment Monday rejected a challenge from Charles Kerchner Jr., a Pennsylvania man who sought a trial in federal court forcing the president to produce documents regarding his birth and citizenship. The linked story incorrectly states that "Obama and his staff produced copies of his birth certificate when he was running for president in 2008." What he produced was not a birth certificate, but a "Certification of Live Birth," a document frequently issued to non-citizens, as described in several articles in the Certifi-Gate pages of MarchReport.com ...

"This decision did not help Mr. Obama," attorney Mario Apuzzo said. "It did not bring legitimacy to his office. Mr. Obama does not have legitimacy of office by the court or by the consensus of the nation, because many people question whether he is a natural born citizen. How does our nation go forward with this kind of result?" "This matter should have been addressed by the media and political parties early in the spring of 2008 during the primaries. It wasn't," wrote retired Navy CDR Charles Kerchner. "Congress should have addressed this when asked and when constitutionally it was required to. It didn't. The courts should have addressed the merits of the questions when appealed to early on. They didn't. Everyone in our system of government chose appeasement over confrontation and punted the ball to someone else. Now it is far worse. The Supreme Court has chosen appeasement and inaction over action and dealing with the issue and questions openly in a court of law under the rules of evidence and law. Our constitutional republic and legal system is now compromised and broken." ...

The Supreme Court conferred today on whether arguments should be heard on the merits of Kerchner v. Obama, a case challenging whether President Barack Obama is qualified to serve as president because he may not be a "natural-born citizen" as required by Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution. "This case is unprecedented," said Mario Apuzzo, the attorney bringing the suit. "I believe we presented an ironclad case. We've shown standing, and we've shown the importance of the issue for the Supreme Court. There's nothing standing in their way to grant us a writ of certiorari." If the Supreme Court decides to grant the "writ of certiorari," it may direct a federal trial court in New Jersey to hear the merits of the case, or it may choose to hear the merits itself. ...

A Texas state representative on Tuesday filed a bill that would require any candidate for president or vice president of the United States to show his or her birth certificate to the Texas secretary of state, another indication of just how ambitious the conservative agenda for next year's session of the Texas Legislature is expected to be. "This bill is necessary because we have a president whom the American people don't know whether he was born in Kenya or some other place," Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, said in reference to President Barack Obama and of House Bill 295. "If you are running for president or vice president, you've got to show here in Texas that you were born in the United States and the birth certificate is your proof." ...

The analysis by the Congressional Research Service, a research arm of the U.S. Congress, openly admits no one in the federal government, including Congress, ever asked to see Obama's long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate. It explains no one was required to do so. The CRS memorandum, published and distributed to congressional offices April 3, 2009, was written to explain to senators and member of the House how they could answer constituents who were demanding to see Obama's birth certificate. Authored by Jack Maskell, the legislative attorney in the American Law Division of the Congressional Research Service, the document was a memorandum written for the subject "Qualifications for the Office of President of the United States and Legal Challenges to the Eligibility of a Candidate." Maskell explained that he wrote it only for distribution to congressional offices, not for public distribution, and it was not posted on any of the CRS report sites where the public might have been able to find it. ...

A prominent lawyer who has argued several legal challenges to Barack Obama's eligibility to be president, including cases pending at the appeals level in both state and federal courts in California, is asking to join in a case already pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. The request is from Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation to join the appeal by attorney Mario Apuzzo on behalf of his client, Charles Kerchner Jr. Kreep is seeking to file a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the Western Center for Journalism in support of Kerchner and the other plaintiffs. The Western Center covers a wide variety of topics and is training "citizen journalists" and bloggers, the request explains. So, the "issue of a candidate for president of the United States not being required to conclusively prove his or her birth status is of great concern ... because if the determinations of eligibility are left to the political parties, this will lead to candidates who clearly fail to meet the requirements." ...

Stallone wrote, "I voted did you? Gotta get the Manchurian Candidate out of the drivers seat before were ALL soaring off a cliff into Oblivion ... Be smart. the Manchurian Candidate was a movie about fake president who was put there by foreign enemies to destroy America. Scary concept. Rise up!" ...

 Attorney Philip J. Berg, a life-long Democrat, and member of the NAACP, has lead the charge that Barrack Obama, a/k/a/ Barry Soetoro is unqualified to be President of the U.S. for having failed to produce a birth certificate and other personal records that could prove or disprove that he is a natural born U.S. citizen, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. ...

 The Presidential seal fell off Barack Obama's podium and clattered to the stage as Obama delivered a speech to a women's conference Tuesday. When he realized what happened, he quipped, "All of you know who I am." Yes, Mr. Obama ... indeed we do. ...

"As a medical officer and not a lawyer or constitutional scholar, LTC Lakin is not laying claim to be the sole arbiter of the president's constitutionality in attempting to determine, without any genuine evidence to make such a determination, the president's 'natural born' citizen status," the The American Patriot Foundation said. An Army judge has made it "impossible" for a career medical officer to get a fair hearing on charges he refused to deploy to Afghanistan because of concern that obeying orders in the chain of command under an ineligible commander in chief would be illegal, his attorney says. The rulings came today from Col. Denise Lind, who in so many words told Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin to pound sand. Rocks actually. He faces up to four years at hard labor if convicted in his case. "We got absolutely slammed today," said Paul R. Jensen, lead counsel for the defense. "It's impossible for us to have a fair trial under these rulings." In her decision, Lind, acting as judge in the case, censored the last remaining arguments Lakin planned to make in his defense: motive and duty. Lakin had intended to explain his motive for disobeying the order and contend that it was his duty as a good soldier to disobey orders that he believes to be illegal. The defense also planned to call as witnesses Ambassador Alan Keyes and retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney. Keyes was to explain the constitutional issues involved in the case, and McInerney was to talk about the training soldiers receive regarding when they should question and even disobey orders. ...

McInerney, who commanded forces armed with nuclear weapons, says the disclosure of Barack Obama's documentation proving his eligibility to be commander in chief is critical not just to the defense of an officer challenging Obama's status, but to the preservation of the nation itself. The general, who retired in 1994 after serving as vice commander in chief of USAF forces in Europe, commander of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing and assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, among other positions, said the chain of command issue is critical in today's world, since officers are obligated both to follow orders and to disobey illegal orders. "There can be no question that it is absolutely essential to good order and discipline in the military that there be no break in the unified chain of command, from the lowliest E-1 up to and including the commander in chief who is under the Constitution, the president of the United States. As military officers, we owe our ultimate loyalty not to superior officers or even to the president, but rather, to the Constitution." ...
