The Battles For Late Night

Louis Menand -- New Yorker

The Leno-O'Brien debacle might not have happened if Jay Leno had used representation. As Bill Carter tells the story in his hugely entertaining recap, The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy, Leno fired his manager in 1992, shortly after taking over from Johnny Carson as host of the "Tonight Show." Leno believed that his manager had said things to poison his relationship with Carson. As it was, David Letterman, who, as the host of "Late Night," had been following Carson for eleven years and was considered the heir apparent, felt resentment about being passed over for Leno, whose reputation had been built partly on his many guest appearances on "Late Night." Leno was professional to the core, but he did not want business to ruin friendship. He never used a manager or an agent for his contract renewals again.

Bush: 'Damn Right' I Gave The Go-Ahead On Waterboarding Terror Suspect

Alex Eichler -- Atlantic Monthly

In George W. Bush's new memoir, Decision Points, the former president explains that the CIA approached him about the possibility of waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the al-Qaeda operative often called "the architect of 9/11." In his memoir, Bush writes that his response was "Damn right." This seems to be a straightforward admission that Bush approved the use of waterboarding on a detainee--even though this technique is widely regarded as inhumane, and its use is thought by many to violate the United Nations Convention Against Torture, of which the United States is a signatory. (In media outside the U.S., waterboarding is almost always referred to as torture.)

The Rise And Fall Of America's Jet-Powered Car

Steven Lehto -- Jalopnik

Video AND TEXT. We almost had jet-powered cars. Chrysler quietly developed a Jet-powered car in the 1960s. Steve Lehto's new book "Chrysler's Turbine Car: The Rise and Fall of Detroit's Coolest Creation" explains how bureaucracy killed one of Detroit's engineering triumphs.

Review Of Bob Woodward's New Book, "Obama's Wars"

Michiko Kakutani -- New York Times

It's no secret that there have been ferocious arguments within the Obama administration over the war in Afghanistan: both substantive policy debates. Bob Woodward's new book, "Obama's Wars," underscores just how vociferous and highly personal those altercations and message wars often became. Mr. Woodward adds lots of detail and anecdotal color to the story of how the White House's policy on Afghanistan evolved over the administration's first 18 months, and how the decision was made to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan (to try to wrest momentum away from a resurgent Taliban) with a drawdown of American forces scheduled to begin in July 2011.

Peter Hitchens Talks About His Faith And His Atheist Sibling Christopher

Charles Lewis -- National Post

Almost everyone knows how his elder brother Christopher Hitchens feels, but less well known are the views of Peter Hitchens, a conservative columnist for the The Mail on Sunday in London, who was inspired to write his latest book, The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith, because of the "dangerous" teachings of men like his brother. It is not a faith book, at least not in the conventional sense of defending doctrine or even making a philosophical case for God. The book is devoid of "faith talk"; the name Jesus does not appear once in the book. "Remember, I'm an ex-Trotskyite, so I'm quite suspicious of the man of total conviction and certainty. What I did not want, coming away from Marxist utopianism, was to find another mirror image of utopianism," he said. "The argument I'm making for religion is largely a negative one: if you get rid of [God] you will be in a tremendous fix."

Bozo The Clown: "The Man Behind The Nose"

Philip Potempa -- Northwest Indiana Times

Did you hear the one about when Bozo ran for president? Or how two assassination attempts were made on his life? How about the time that Bozo flew into the jungles of New Guinea to see if he could bond with dangerous cannibal tribes? Well then, you must know about the time his size 83 AAA shoes saved him from being swallowed whole by a giant, murderous python in Thailand, right? These are just a few of the "prizes" plucked from "The Man Behind the Nose: Assassins, Astronauts, Cannibals, and Other Stupendous Tales," (HarperCollins $25.99) a new 256-page hardcover by Susan Harmon, widow of Larry Harmon, the man credited with creating "the world's most famous clown. The book, released in time for Bozo's 50th anniversary, was co-authored by Thomas Scott McKenzie. The late Larry Harmon reportedly drafted most of the book before his death.

New Book Celebrates George Herriman's Krazy Kat

Doug MacCash -- Times-Picayune

Video AND TEXT. "George Herriman's Krazy Kat, A Celebration of Sundays" is a dynamite introduction to one of the most dysfunctional duos ever found on the funny pages. It's also a book-shelf must-have for anyone devoted to jazz-era expression. But beneath the quirky comedy of the antique cartoon, Herriman's real life story is a disquieting detour through the bad ol' days of American race relations that begins in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Starting exactly 100 years ago (July 26, 1910), Ignatz the cartoon mouse began hurling bricks at the head of his Coconino County neighbor, Krazy Kat. Zip! Pow! It's no wonder that a mouse, given the chance, would torment a cat. Here's the weird thing: For the next 34 years, Krazy Kat fell more deeply in love with Ignatz with each beaning. Try as he might, police officer Pupp could do nothing to dampen either Ignatz's violent obsession or Krazy's misplaced ardor for the mouse that he or she (we're never quite sure of Krazy's sex) called "L'il Anjil."

Fight Over Evolution Still Simmers 85 Years After Scopes Trial

Bob Smietana -- The Tennessean

Rachel Held Evans had a choice while growing up in Dayton, Tenn., site of the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial. Believe the Bible or believe evolution. "I was taught that if you don't interpret Genesis 1 and 2 literally, then you don't take the Bible seriously," said Evans, 29. "I held on tightly to that for a long time." Evans says creationism -- the belief that God created the Earth around 6,000 years ago in six days -- was commonplace in her town. Unable to reconcile science with her faith, Evans embraced evolution. "I learned you don't have to choose between loving and following Jesus and believing in evolution," she said. She chronicled her personal journey in a new memoir, Evolving in Monkey Town: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask the Questions.

YEST T.S.A. Body-Searches A Three-Year-Old Girl

Ed Morrissey -- Hot Air Network

Video AND TEXT. This story points out yet again how the American approach to flight security misses the point, thanks to an "everyone must suffer equally" approach. The Israelis have not had an incident in decades, thanks to a much more comprehensive but subtle approach that looks for actual clues to danger, rather than using a random-sample method. If we're mugging random three-year-olds to provide security to air travel, I'd say we need to rethink our approach. And if we continue along this path, is it unreasonable to ask that TSA provide some training on how to conduct a body search on a three-year-old without terrifying children? ...

 Mr. Rangel's Fall From Grace

Albany Times Union

The final chapter, or so it would seem, of Mr. Rangel's long public life is a sad, lamentable farce. Eloquence has given way to petulance. Perseverance has given way to self-pity. Tuesday brought Mr. Rangel the humiliating, yet inevitable conviction that he so easily could have avoided long ago in this scandal of personal ethics. Guilty of 11 of 13 counts of misconduct. So says the House ethics committee. It signaled that verdict a day earlier, when it said that the facts against Mr. Rangel -- who had walked out of the proceedings, protesting that he no longer could afford to defend himself and demanding a pro bono lawyer -- were not in dispute. ...

 Republican Senators Swear Off Earmarks

Jennifer Fermino -- New York Post

Senate Republicans yesterday agreed to stop tucking money for pork-barrel projects known as "earmarks" into bills. The nearly unanimous vote was aimed at avoiding a rift with the powerful Tea Party movement and sending a message to the public that the GOP is serious about reform. The Republican Senate Conference agreed to a moratorium on earmarks -- which pols of both parties had used regularly to bring home federal monies -- for two years and challenged Democrats to get on board. ...

Administration Hopes For Ratification Of Arms Treaty Wane

Mary Beth Sheridan and Walter Pincus -- Washington Post

A key Republican senator on Tuesday dampened the Obama administration's hopes of passing a nuclear treaty with Russia by year's end, saying the Senate should not consider the pact during the congressional lame-duck session. Sen. Jon Kyl (Ariz.), his party's leading voice on the treaty, characterized as positive an administration bid to win his support with a multibillion-dollar increase in the budget for nuclear modernization but added that there are still "unresolved issues" related to the treaty. Obama administration officials have said they believe they have the votes in the current Senate to pass the treaty. But Kyl's influence on Republicans is so great that the vote could be close. It was unclear Tuesday whether Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) would bring the treaty up for a vote anyway. ...

With the New York Democrat absent for much of the process, the panel agreed unanimously that Rangel had inappropriately housed his political committees in a rent-controlled building, had used his congressional office to raise millions of dollars from corporations with business before his committee, and did not pay some taxes and fully disclose his assets. But he said that Democrats suffered "a real body blow" in the recent midterm elections -- when the party lost seats in the Senate and control of the House -- in large part because Obama didn't prioritize or communicate effectively enough. "Sarah Palin's Alaska" Review

Rachel Ray -- Telegraph (UK)

In Sarah Palin's Alaska, TLC's bid at a fresh look at the great wilderness state, viewers get to see Alaska through the eyes of its global celebrity former governor. YEST Beatles Expected To Sign Deal With Apple's iTunes

BBC News (UK)

Apple is expected to announce today that the world's most famous band, The Beatles, are finally coming to iTunes. This will mean that for the first time consumers will be able to purchase some of the Fab Four's most popular songs via the world's most popular online music store. Apple and record label EMI have been in talks for years about getting the catalogue online. Apple refused to comment about speculation of a possible deal. But on Monday, the firm posted a mysterious message on its website that said "tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget." EMI has said that with worldwide sales of one billion albums, the Beatles are the top-selling band in music history. EMI's owner, private equity firm Terra Firma Capital Partners, owes millions in debt payments to Citigroup, which helped bankroll the purchase of EMI in 2007. ...

Where Once A Star Shone, Scientists See Evidence Of A Baby Black Hole

Pete Spotts -- Christian Science Monitor

The leftovers from a star that blew up in a galaxy some 50 million light-years away may be giving astrophysicists their first look at an infant black hole - an object whose gravity is so immense that even light fails to travel fast enough to escape its grip. The evidence comes in the form of X-ray emissions from the object, emissions that can escape because they come from material that is on the verge of being sucked into the cosmic maw, but hasn't been drawn over the brink yet. ...

New Cigarette Warnings Will Have Shocking, Graphic Images

Jeff Jacoby -- Boston Globe

Last week the Food and Drug Administration announced that it will soon require tobacco warning labels to be much bigger -- beginning next fall, they will have to cover half the front and back of each cigarette pack -- and more graphic. Armed with new powers granted by Congress last year, the FDA has designed 36 possible labels, from which nine final choices will be selected. The proposed warnings include one "containing an image of a man smoking through a tracheotomy hole in his throat; another depicting a body with a large scar running down the chest; and another showing a man who appears to be suffering a heart attack. Others have images of a corpse in a coffin and one with a toe tag in a morgue, diseased lungs and mouths, and a mother blowing smoke into a baby's face." ...

Cambodia Anti-Tank Mine Kills 14 On Tractor

BBC News (UK)

The explosion of an anti-tank mine left behind by civil war in Cambodia has killed 14 people. The group, which included a one-year-old girl, was returning from work at a chilli farm when their tractor hit the mine.  Internet Traffic From U.S. Government Websites Was Redirected Via Chinese Servers

Joshua Rhett Miller -- FOX News

Nearly 15 percent of the world's Internet traffic -- including data from the Pentagon, the office of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and other U.S. government websites -- was briefly redirected through computer networks in China last April, according to a congressional commission report. It was not immediately clear whether the incident was deliberate, but the April 18 redirection could have enabled malicious activities and potentially caused an unintended "diversion of data" from many U.S. government, military and commercial websites, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission states in a 316-page report to Congress. ...

Suspected Russian Arms Trafficker Viktor Bout Arrives In U.S.

Agence France-Presse (FR)

Sspected Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout was jailed here Wednesday after being extradited from Thailand to face charges of conspiring to sell surface-to-air missiles and other weapons to Colombian rebels. Bout, who arrived aboard a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) charter plane, is due to appear in a US federal court on Wednesday before US District Judge Shira Scheindlin. The former Soviet air force pilot's sudden extradition from Thailand followed a long legal battle and intense opposition from Moscow, which denounced the move as "extreme injustice" and said it would support him "by all means." Russian fury over the extradition raised suspicions that it feared exposure of Bout's secrets, accumulated in a long and shadowy career supplying arms to combatants in conflicts in Africa and elsewhere around the world. ...

YEST U.N. Peacekeepers Kill At Least One Person In Haiti Cholera Clashes

Rory Carroll -- Guardian (UK)

The UN peacekeeping force, known as Minustah, said the soldier had acted in self-defence, but an investigation had been launched. Cap-Haitien, the country's second city, was this morning cut off from the rest of Haiti after a day of rioting shut its roads and airport, and left more than a dozen people wounded. Clashes in the town of Hinche injured seven Nepalese peacekeepers, according to local radio. Minustah officials said the protests were politically motivated, and linked them to the election later this month. The mission said, in a statement: "The way events unfolded suggests these incidents were politically motivated, aimed at creating a climate of insecurity on the eve of elections. Minustah calls on the people to remain vigilant and not be manipulated by enemies of stability and democracy in the country." ...

Obama Blaming Others For His Failures

Michael Goodwin -- New York Post

When word got out that Barack Obama told an interviewer he had learned from his mistakes, the grandees of the political class swarmed to the bait. Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

Perspective From The Left: How Obama Screws His Base

Eric Alterman -- Daily Beast

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

White House In Crisis; Will Section 4 Of The 25th Amendment Be Invoked?

Wayne Madsen -- Opinion Maker

Washington has not witnessed so much top level White House intrigue since October 20, 1973, when a Saturday night saw President Nixon fire the Watergate independent counsel, the U.S. attorney general, and the deputy attorney general in the "Saturday Night Massacre." Just ten days earlier, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned after being charged with accepting bribes while governor of Maryland. In the case of Barack Obama, the senior firings are not happening during a single nght but the recent involuntary sudden departures of the White House chief of staff and national security adviser, along with what is a putative president who is suffering from Nixonian levels of paranoia, depression, and schizophrenia, has some top-level administration officials considering the first-ever invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment -- the involuntary removal of the president from office. The White House meltdown has the Washington political circuit buzzing under the surface. ...

Obama's Errors On Arizona Law Exposed

James R. Edwards, Jr. -- Human Events

The Arizona law reflects the same language as the wording in federal immigration law. The state law doesn't create its own immigration policy. That makes the administration's legal challenge all the more specious. Its arguments parrot those the ACLU, the National Council of La Raza and similar activist groups make whenever a state or locality tries to enact a remedy to immigration-related problems that arise in their community. The Supreme Court and several appellate courts have treaded lightly in cases involving federal pre-emption. The courts have taken a cautionary stance when pre-emption is claimed, because of the slippery slope that easy findings of pre-emption would create. ...

People Are Angry At Obama For The Same Reasons They Were At Bush

Peter Roff -- U.S.News & World Report

Obama is a big spender and an advocate for bigger, more activist government. So was Bush, though not, perhaps, to the same degree. The same people who were mad at the latter were mad at the former, and have enlisted in the Tea Parties. It is only in the mind of a dedicated statist that the desire for smaller, more limited government can seem extreme, radical, or unhealthy. The Tea Party movement is not outrageous or outlandish or even, as someone suggested here on Thomas Jefferson Street just the other day, unthinking. The sense of panic felt on the left has become voluble, making the latest volley of assaults on the Tea Party an effort at explaining that the Tea Party movement is of its very nature irrational, a product of anger, and ultimately not in the country's best interest. ...

Barack Obama's Auntie Zeituni: Not The Poster Child For Immigration Reform

Jim Byrd -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Regarding this country's immigration, the only thing wrong with the system in place is the irremediable damage of decades of unwillingness to adequately fund it, the blatant refusal to enforce it, and the preposterous assumption of its harmlessness by the Left. Every president and Congress since Lyndon Johnson shares culpability for the current conglomeration of the 15-20 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Left needs the expedited conversion from illegal to citizen for votes, and the Right needs them regardless of their citizenship status for cheap labor. ...

Birth Certificate Bill Filed For Presidential Candidates

Terry Greenberg -- Lubbock Avalanche Journal

A Texas state representative on Tuesday filed a bill that would require any candidate for president or vice president of the United States to show his or her birth certificate to the Texas secretary of state, another indication of just how ambitious the conservative agenda for next year's session of the Texas Legislature is expected to be. "This bill is necessary because we have a president whom the American people don't know whether he was born in Kenya or some other place," Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, said in reference to President Barack Obama and of House Bill 295. "If you are running for president or vice president, you've got to show here in Texas that you were born in the United States and the birth certificate is your proof." ...

Congressional Report Concedes That Obama Eligibility Was Unvetted

Jerome R. Corsi -- World Net Daily

The analysis by the Congressional Research Service, a research arm of the U.S. Congress, openly admits no one in the federal government, including Congress, ever asked to see Obama's long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate. It explains no one was required to do so. The CRS memorandum, published and distributed to congressional offices April 3, 2009, was written to explain to senators and member of the House how they could answer constituents who were demanding to see Obama's birth certificate. Authored by Jack Maskell, the legislative attorney in the American Law Division of the Congressional Research Service, the document was a memorandum written for the subject "Qualifications for the Office of President of the United States and Legal Challenges to the Eligibility of a Candidate." Maskell explained that he wrote it only for distribution to congressional offices, not for public distribution, and it was not posted on any of the CRS report sites where the public might have been able to find it. ...

Eligibility Attorney Asks To Join Case Before Supreme Court

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

A prominent lawyer who has argued several legal challenges to Barack Obama's eligibility to be president, including cases pending at the appeals level in both state and federal courts in California, is asking to join in a case already pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. The request is from Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation to join the appeal by attorney Mario Apuzzo on behalf of his client, Charles Kerchner Jr. Kreep is seeking to file a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the Western Center for Journalism in support of Kerchner and the other plaintiffs. The Western Center covers a wide variety of topics and is training "citizen journalists" and bloggers, the request explains. So, the "issue of a candidate for president of the United States not being required to conclusively prove his or her birth status is of great concern ... because if the determinations of eligibility are left to the political parties, this will lead to candidates who clearly fail to meet the requirements." ...

New Strategy For Officer Testing Obama's Eligibility:
Are Orders Legal?

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

"As a medical officer and not a lawyer or constitutional scholar, LTC Lakin is not laying claim to be the sole arbiter of the president's constitutionality in attempting to determine, without any genuine evidence to make such a determination, the president's 'natural born' citizen status," the The American Patriot Foundation said. "The burden of proof rests solely on Barack Obama to demonstrate to the American people and to the U.S. armed forces that he commands, that he is lawfully serving in his current capacity as head of the executive branch of the federal government," the foundation said. Army prosecutors, along with the acting judge in the case, Denise Lind, have "made this determination of the commander in chief's eligibility under the Constitution impossible -- by denying discovery -- and essentially denying LTC Lakin the customary due process rights that defendants in American courts enjoy when facing criminal charges," the foundation elaborated. Earlier, the acting judge in the case, Denise Lind, ruled that nothing regarding Obama could be discussed during the trial. She noted at that time providing documentation on the president might prove "embarrassing" for him. ...

Railroading Of Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin Continues

Brian Fitzpatrick -- World Net Daily

An Army judge has made it "impossible" for a career medical officer to get a fair hearing on charges he refused to deploy to Afghanistan because of concern that obeying orders in the chain of command under an ineligible commander in chief would be illegal, his attorney says. The rulings came today from Col. Denise Lind, who in so many words told Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin to pound sand. Rocks actually. He faces up to four years at hard labor if convicted in his case. "We got absolutely slammed today," said Paul R. Jensen, lead counsel for the defense. "It's impossible for us to have a fair trial under these rulings." In her decision, Lind, acting as judge in the case, censored the last remaining arguments Lakin planned to make in his defense: motive and duty. Lakin had intended to explain his motive for disobeying the order and contend that it was his duty as a good soldier to disobey orders that he believes to be illegal. The defense also planned to call as witnesses Ambassador Alan Keyes and retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney. Keyes was to explain the constitutional issues involved in the case, and McInerney was to talk about the training soldiers receive regarding when they should question and even disobey orders. ...

Fox News Military Analyst Lt. Gen. Thomas G. McInerney (Ret.) Demands Obama Release His Birth Records

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

McInerney, who commanded forces armed with nuclear weapons, says the disclosure of Barack Obama's documentation proving his eligibility to be commander in chief is critical not just to the defense of an officer challenging Obama's status, but to the preservation of the nation itself. The general, who retired in 1994 after serving as vice commander in chief of USAF forces in Europe, commander of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing and assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, among other positions, said the chain of command issue is critical in today's world, since officers are obligated both to follow orders and to disobey illegal orders. "There can be no question that it is absolutely essential to good order and discipline in the military that there be no break in the unified chain of command, from the lowliest E-1 up to and including the commander in chief who is under the Constitution, the president of the United States. As military officers, we owe our ultimate loyalty not to superior officers or even to the president, but rather, to the Constitution." ...

Global Warming Re-Branded As 'Global Climate Disruption'

James Delingpole -- Telegraph (UK)

Obama's Science Czar John Holdren is worried about global warming. Having noticed that there hasn't actually been any global warming since 1998, he feels it ought to be called "global climate disruption" instead. That way whether it gets warmer or colder, wetter or drier, less climatically eventful or more climatically eventful, the result will be the same: it can all be put down to "global climate disruption." And that will be good, because it will give Holdren the excuse to introduce all the draconian measures he has long believed necessary if "global climate disruption" is to be averted: viz, state-enforced population control; a rewriting of the legal code so that trees are able to sue people; and the wholesale destruction of the US economy ("de-development" as he put it in the 1973 eco-fascist textbook he co-wrote Paul and Anne Ehrlich Human Ecology: Global Problems And Solutions). ...

The Green $windle

Sean Hannity -- FOX News

The Medieval Warm Period: An Inconvenient Truth

Dr. Tim Ball -- Canada Free Press (CA)

The Lamb graph (a graph of northern hemisphere temperatures produced by Hubert Lamb) and its source were problematic for the people at the CRU who were also on the IPCC. It showed the 20th century was not the warmest temperatures ever and triggered the email Professor Deming received from a CRU member saying, "We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period." It appears Michael Mann's research with the complicity of others was designed to achieve that goal. They launched a campaign to discredit extensive evidence from a multitude of sources of the existence of the MWP. This included deliberate efforts by John Holdren, Obama's current Science Czar. ...

Obama Scrubs White House Website Of Climate Change Promises

Warner Todd Huston -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Especially interesting it the sudden disappearance of Obama's plan to commit $150 billion on clean energy research and development. Also gone is any clear pledge to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions via his formerly touted cap and trade legislative efforts. For instance, the section once titled "Closing the Carbon Loophole and Cracking Down on Polluters" is now vanished down the memory hole. ...

Stories You May Have Missed In Our Previous Issues

At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. Please report broken links to us using our "Rants & Raves" form by clicking here. Archives will be deleted as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
