The Rise And Fall Of America's Jet-Powered Car

Steven Lehto -- Jalopnik

Video AND TEXT. We almost had jet-powered cars. Chrysler quietly developed a Jet-powered car in the 1960s. Steve Lehto's new book "Chrysler's Turbine Car: The Rise and Fall of Detroit's Coolest Creation" explains how bureaucracy killed one of Detroit's engineering triumphs.

Review Of Bob Woodward's New Book, "Obama's Wars"

Michiko Kakutani -- New York Times

It's no secret that there have been ferocious arguments within the Obama administration over the war in Afghanistan: both substantive policy debates. Bob Woodward's new book, "Obama's Wars," underscores just how vociferous and highly personal those altercations and message wars often became. Mr. Woodward adds lots of detail and anecdotal color to the story of how the White House's policy on Afghanistan evolved over the administration's first 18 months, and how the decision was made to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan (to try to wrest momentum away from a resurgent Taliban) with a drawdown of American forces scheduled to begin in July 2011.

Peter Hitchens Talks About His Faith And His Atheist Sibling Christopher

Charles Lewis -- National Post

Almost everyone knows how his elder brother Christopher Hitchens feels, but less well known are the views of Peter Hitchens, a conservative columnist for the The Mail on Sunday in London, who was inspired to write his latest book, The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith, because of the "dangerous" teachings of men like his brother. It is not a faith book, at least not in the conventional sense of defending doctrine or even making a philosophical case for God. The book is devoid of "faith talk"; the name Jesus does not appear once in the book. "Remember, I'm an ex-Trotskyite, so I'm quite suspicious of the man of total conviction and certainty. What I did not want, coming away from Marxist utopianism, was to find another mirror image of utopianism," he said. "The argument I'm making for religion is largely a negative one: if you get rid of [God] you will be in a tremendous fix."

Bozo The Clown: "The Man Behind The Nose"

Philip Potempa -- Northwest Indiana Times

Did you hear the one about when Bozo ran for president? Or how two assassination attempts were made on his life? How about the time that Bozo flew into the jungles of New Guinea to see if he could bond with dangerous cannibal tribes? Well then, you must know about the time his size 83 AAA shoes saved him from being swallowed whole by a giant, murderous python in Thailand, right? These are just a few of the "prizes" plucked from "The Man Behind the Nose: Assassins, Astronauts, Cannibals, and Other Stupendous Tales," (HarperCollins $25.99) a new 256-page hardcover by Susan Harmon, widow of Larry Harmon, the man credited with creating "the world's most famous clown. The book, released in time for Bozo's 50th anniversary, was co-authored by Thomas Scott McKenzie. The late Larry Harmon reportedly drafted most of the book before his death.

New Book Celebrates George Herriman's Krazy Kat

Doug MacCash -- Times-Picayune

Video AND TEXT. "George Herriman's Krazy Kat, A Celebration of Sundays" is a dynamite introduction to one of the most dysfunctional duos ever found on the funny pages. It's also a book-shelf must-have for anyone devoted to jazz-era expression. But beneath the quirky comedy of the antique cartoon, Herriman's real life story is a disquieting detour through the bad ol' days of American race relations that begins in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Starting exactly 100 years ago (July 26, 1910), Ignatz the cartoon mouse began hurling bricks at the head of his Coconino County neighbor, Krazy Kat. Zip! Pow! It's no wonder that a mouse, given the chance, would torment a cat. Here's the weird thing: For the next 34 years, Krazy Kat fell more deeply in love with Ignatz with each beaning. Try as he might, police officer Pupp could do nothing to dampen either Ignatz's violent obsession or Krazy's misplaced ardor for the mouse that he or she (we're never quite sure of Krazy's sex) called "L'il Anjil."

Fight Over Evolution Still Simmers 85 Years After Scopes Trial

Bob Smietana -- The Tennessean

Rachel Held Evans had a choice while growing up in Dayton, Tenn., site of the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial. Believe the Bible or believe evolution. "I was taught that if you don't interpret Genesis 1 and 2 literally, then you don't take the Bible seriously," said Evans, 29. "I held on tightly to that for a long time." Evans says creationism -- the belief that God created the Earth around 6,000 years ago in six days -- was commonplace in her town. Unable to reconcile science with her faith, Evans embraced evolution. "I learned you don't have to choose between loving and following Jesus and believing in evolution," she said. She chronicled her personal journey in a new memoir, Evolving in Monkey Town: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask the Questions.

G.O.P. Wins House Majority; Dems Keep Control Of Senate

KOB-TV

Video Republicans have seized control of the U.S. House of Representatives by a wide margin. "The American people have sent an unmistakable message to him tonight, and that message is: "change course," current Minority Leader and the presumptive next Speaker of the House John Boehner said after the results came in. Barack Obama called Boehner to congratulate him on the victory, and promised cooperation. Democrats were able to hold the Senate, but did give up seats to Tea-Party backed candidates. Republican Rand Paul won a Kentucky Senate seat as a no-compromise Tea Partier. He vowed to go to Washington to battle both party establishments. "Eleven percent of the people approve of what's going on in Congress but tonight there's a Tea Party tidal wave and we're sending a message to 'em!" Paul said to a roaring crowd. Tea Partier Marco Rubio took a Florida Senate seat. Democratic Senate incumbent Blanche Lincoln lost her seat in Arkansas. Republican Dan Coats won in Indiana, replacing a Democrat. Still, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid held his seat, beating Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle. Joe Manchin kept a West Virginia Senate seat Democratic, as did Chris Coons in Delaware, beating Tea Partier Christine O'Donnell. ...

Where The Republican Rout Leaves Obama And The Dems

David Von Drehle -- Time Magazine

Voters hit the reset button on American politics Tuesday. There is no more Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, no more one-party control of the Federal Government, no more Obama landslide map. The country awakens this morning to all the same problems -- but the menu of solutions is up for grabs. "Yes, we can" has collided with "Oh, no you don't." And the future -- including the 2012 presidential election -- starts right now. The swing voters who flocked to Barack Obama two years ago turned against his agenda, electing a tidal wave of new Republican members of Congress, and shaving the Democratic advantage in the Senate to a hair's breadth. As the number of House seats captured by the GOP climbed toward 60, Democrats pondered a loss of historic scope, exceeding the 52 seats captured by the GOP in the 1994 Gingrich revolution. Exit polls suggested that widespread anger over the government's handling of the poor economy was the fuel that fed the firestorm -- it was a wave of discontent, a resounding vote of no confidence in all branches of power. ...

Obamanomics To Blame For Historic Democratic Midterm Collapse

James Pethokoukis -- Reuters

It wasn't just the economy, stupid. The historic losses suffered Tuesday by Democrats in the U.S. midterm elections owe as much to the unpopular and off-point agenda of Barack Obama as it does to high unemployment. A policy pivot might have limited the damage, but the White House failed to recognize the trouble until too late. The economy made a Republican win almost inevitable, but Obamanomics made it a wipeout. ...

Was Election 2010 About The Tea Party Or Nancy Pelosi?

Patrik Jonsson -- Christian Science Monitor

The idea of putting largely untested outsider candidates up against even embattled incumbents like Senate majority leader Harry Reid backfired on the tea party Tuesday, potentially costing the Republicans control of the Senate. With tea party champions Christine O'Donnell in Delaware and Sharron Angle in Nevada both losing their races and Ken Buck in a race still too close to call in Colorado, the Senate remained out of Republican control even as the Democrats faced historic economic headwinds and an angry and dissatisfied public. To be sure, Republican gains in the Senate -- even if short of a takeover -- were impressive. Republicans look assured of picking up at least six seats -- to 47 -- and perhaps seven if Mr. Buck can win his race. The Republican takeover of the House is by itself critical to shift the balance of power in Washington. In the Senate, newly elected tea party candidates like Ron Paul and Marco Rubio can have an outsized effect, promising to severely hamper Barack Obama's ability to push through major legislation. "The ability of this administration to get major new programs done was already limited. This [election] just seals the deal," Jaret Seiberg, a policy analyst with the Washington Research Group investment advisory firm said. ...

Nancy Pelosi's Loss Of The House Speakership Impacts San Francisco's Bay Area

Phillip Matier And Andrew Ross -- San Francisco Chronicle

Whether Pelosi will stay on as minority leader -- or even in Congress -- remains to be seen. "I certainly hope she does, because I think she could still be very effective," said Art Torres, a former state Democratic Party chairman. But if Pelosi leaves, triggering a special election to fill her seat, it will be a very different climate for San Francisco in Congress. "We would go from having the most powerful person in the House to the one with the least seniority," said University of San Francisco political science Professor Corey Cook. ...

Eric Cantor: Repeal Health Care "Right Away"

CBS News

Current House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., is expected to be the new majority leader in the House with Ohio Rep. John Boehner as speaker. "I believe that when we take majority of in January, I hope that we're able to put a repeal bill on the floor right away because that's what the American people want. They understand that this bill is going to bankrupt this country and take away the health care that they -- most people in this country -- know and like," Cantor said. ...

Election Opens New Doors To Sharron Angle

Ray Hagar -- Reno Gazette-Journal

Despite her devastating defeat to Harry Reid, political experts said Tuesday night that Nevada has probably not seen the last of Sharron Angle. Angle emerged in the U.S. Senate race after defeating GOP favorite Sue Lowden in the primary for the nomination. But for those who didn't know her before, the former assemblywoman from Reno has been a constant candidate for about the last 15 years in Nevada. In 2012, she could have a buffet of campaign choices. ...

In New York, Republicans Oust Dems Across State

Beth Fouhy -- Associated Press

Republicans ousted at least five House Democrats across New York as the antiestablishment, anti-incumbent wave sweeping midterm elections reached into one of the nation's most reliably blue states. Democrats lost House seats from New York City to Rochester despite strong wins for the party at the top of the ticket. Andrew Cuomo's win over Republican Carl Paladino in the governor's race and twin victories for Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand over underfunded and largely unknown Republican opponents weren't enough to stem deep losses down the ballot. ...

Washington, Colorado, Alaska Senate Races: When Will We Know Who Won?

Brad Knickerbocker -- Christian Science Monitor

Recounts loom in at least two states, which could last weeks, and both parties are lawyered up for the legal battles that might ensue. These three nail-biters won't determine which party controls the Senate. With outcomes elsewhere already known, Democrats will remain the majority party there, although by a slimmer margin. But just how slim remains to be seen, and on a night when Democrats took the worst midterm shellacking in the House of Representatives since 1948, they're hoping for just a bit of good news. ...

YEST Elections 2010: Republicans Expected To Win Big; Headaches Expected For Obama

Katie Connolly -- BBC News (UK)

They say victory is sweet, but some victories are sweeter than others. For Republicans, toppling Nevada's Harry Reid -- the Senate Majority Leader who many of them revile almost as much as the president -- would be the sweetest victory of all. And it is well within their reach. The contest between Mr Reid and Republican candidate Sharron Angle, a Tea Party favorite, is the race to watch on Tuesday night. Republicans also have their sights set on Barack Obama's former Senate seat in Illinois. The battle there between state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, a Democrat, and Republican Congressman Mark Kirk -- complete with accusations of lies, corruption, and ties to the mob -- is typical of Chicago's bruising political scene. Going into polling day, the race was too close to bet on, but if Republicans win this traditionally Democratic spot expect them to celebrate it as a serious snub to Mr Obama. ...

YEST Tea Parties Plan Victory Celebrations, Even If Candidates Fall Short

Amy Gardner -- Washington Post

"You're going to have a conservative Republican majority in the House -- nobody doubts that," said Richard K. Armey, the former House majority leader who is now chairman of FreedomWorks, the Washington-based conservative organizer that has supplied local tea party activists with resources. "That means that it's been a transformation, a restoration and a rehabilitation of the Republican Party. And with that, they beat the Democrats." In the Senate, Armey continued: "One way or another, the Republican caucus in the Senate is going to be a conservative caucus. Everybody in the Senate who is a Republican is saying, 'How can I make peace with this movement and this commitment to grassroots conservative Republicans?'" ...

YEST Obama Braced For Huge Defeat

Ewen MacAskill -- Guardian (UK)

Barack Obama spent today holed up at the White House bracing himself for what polls suggest will be the worst Democratic election results for a generation, a shift that could leave Washington gridlocked. "There are only two outcomes: a substantial Republican wave or an enormous Republican wave," Larry Sabato, director of the centre for politics at the University of Virginia and one of the most respected analysts in the US, said. The Republicans will have to decide whether to compromise with Obama in getting some legislation through or opt for all-out combat. A large corps of Republicans backed by the grassroots Tea Party movement are expected to win seats in the House and Senate and will push for non-co-operation with the White House. ...

YEST Democratic Senate Majority In Jeopardy?

Tarini Parti -- Christian Science Monitor

A Republican takeover of the Senate would be a slap down for Democrats, and most political handicappers consider that scenario unlikely. But Republicans are expected to add to the 41 seats they have now, eating into the Democrats' almost-filibuster-proof margin and, perhaps, forcing them to approach lawmaking in a more bipartisan way than has recently been the case. The Republicans need to net 10 seats to take control of the Senate. The odds of doing so are slim, says Jennifer Duffy, senior editor for the Cook Political Report, but the GOP is likely to gain five to seven seats. One question is whether Independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, who currently caucuses with Democrats, will switch allegiances if Republicans come close to winning the majority. ...

At least one of the rounds struck Aaron in the back of his head; his uncle was hit in the leg and his grandfather on the wrist. "This is absolutely horrific. 'Dark Knight Rises' Finds The Future In IMAX, Not 3-D

Geoff Boucher -- Los Angeles Times

All of Hollywood is reaching for 3-D glasses but Christopher Nolan sees a different vision of innovation. "The title of the new film is 'The Dark Knight Rises' and we will be shooting and exhibiting the film in 2-D," Nolan said of the third Batman film, which is planned for a 2012 release and will now be held up as a victory for the assorted foes of the stereoscopic trend for "event" films. Nolan hasn't been shy about expressing his disdain for 3-D but he also has zero interest in taking on the mantle of some anti-3-D crusade. It's too hard to predict the future landscape of studio feature filmmaking and Nolan doesn't want to paint himself into a corner; more than that, by nature he is uninterested in polarizing controversy or grandstanding. ...

Is NASA Covering Up Planned 100-Year Starship Journey?

John Brandon -- FOX News

In a talk at San Francisco's Long Conversation conference, Simon "Pete" Worden said DARPA has $1M to spend, plus another $100,000 from NASA itself, for the program, which will initially develop a new kind of propulsion engine that will take us to Mars or beyond. The 100-year ship would leave Earth with the intention of colonizing a planet, but it would likely be a one-way trip because of the time it takes to travel 35 million miles. That's a daunting prospect, partly because of the ethical dilemma, and partly because it may be the only recourse. ...

YEST Tech Races To Watch

Gautham Nagesh and Sara Jerome-- The Hill

Like the rest of the country the tech world will be up late watching the election results roll in on Tuesday evening. Of course the biggest question of the day is whether the GOP will take back the House as expected; if they do expect to see the White House's use of technology and social media take center stage when California Republican and former entrepreneur Darrell Issa takes over as House Oversight Committee chairman as widely anticipated. Another key battle would be for the chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee; in recent weeks Reps. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) have made it clear they want to helm the committee in charge of a number of critical tech issues. Read the linked story for the races we'll be keeping a close eye on. ...

YEST Review: Macbook Air 13-Inch

John Biggs -- TechCrunch

There will be no pleasing either side of the Apple fan divide with this review so I'll say it up front: If you're looking for an alternative to a heavier Apple laptop -- a MacBook Pro, say, or an Apple Powerbook 170 -- and you travel, the MacBook Air is an excellent choice. If you rarely travel and/or are not a Mac fan, you will probably be better served by a cheaper netbook. The real draw here is size and weight. This is probably the thinnest laptop you have ever seen. I've shown it to multiple people and they're all amazed. However, that thinness comes with a price. ...

Alcohol 'More Dangerous Than Crack, Heroin And Ecstasy'

Katherine Faulkner -- Daily Mail (UK)

Scientists have found that alcohol is the most harmful drug overall and three times as harmful as cocaine and tobacco, according to a new scale of drug harm that rates the damage to both users and to wider society, published in the Lancet. Two experts from the Amsterdam National Institute for Public Health and the Environment and the Amsterdam Institute for Addiction Research point out in a Lancet commentary the study does not look at multiple drug use, which can make some drugs much more dangerous, such as cocaine or cannabis together with alcohol. ...

"Everyone knows Shannon because she's such a talented and beautiful child," family friend Nahdi Mukomana said Tuesday. "But at the tender age of 11, she was so selfless. She wanted to help other children who were going through the same thing she was." The pint-size singer, who fell ill with leukemia six months after her Broadway debut, died Monday. Audio March Report Podcast

News and Opinion Presented by Robert Jay March

44:29. Recorded
Monday, June 7, 2010
TOPICS DISCUSSED:

The Kramdenation of Barack Obama

In 2009, Barack Obama issued this Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government, which said, in part: "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust, and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government." That from the largest recipient of campaign funds from British Petrolium, who were repaid with lax oversight and regulatory exemptions that led to the Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill. In this podcast, Robert Jay March discusses the attempts to bribe Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff out of their respective primaries, contrasting this with the promises of openness and transparency made by Barack Obama while he was running, and in the early days of his occupancy of the White House. Paraphrasing Obama's response to the scandal: Hamena, hamena, hamena.

World Watches U.S. Election And Speculates On Impact

Associated Press

China's interest in the elections was high, with extensive coverage topping most leading Internet news portals. Xiong Zhiyong, a professor at China Foreign Affairs University who specializes in China-US relations, said he worried about the election's fallout on the U.S.-China relationship, which has been marked by tensions over trade and currency, among other issues. With the U.S. economy still in decline, China has become an easy target for American politicians, he said. "Inside the U.S., the Republicans have been attacking Obama's recovery policies. And the Obama administration has been unable to come up with an effective solution to save the economy. All that being considered, it is easier to accuse China of making that mess," he said. During election campaigning, China-bashing was quite popular among U.S. candidates, he said. ...

Greek police said international postal and parcel services would be suspended for two days. In Berlin, German authorities destroyed a bomb addressed to Chancellor Angela Merkel. The package was sent from Greece two days earlier by UPS delivery and resembled the Athens parcel bombs, according to German interior minister Thomas de Maiziere. "The threat is very serious. Daily Mail (UK)

The attack -- blasts in at least 13 separate neighborhoods -- was clearly designed to hit civilians at restaurants and cafes where many Iraqis were gathered to enjoy the warm evening. The sophistication and the targets -- Shia -- suggested that Al Qaeda-linked Sunni militants were responsible for the deadliest day in Iraq since May. The attack comes just days after a bloody seige at a Baghdad church which left 58 dead. Obama Blaming Others For His Failures

Michael Goodwin -- New York Post

When word got out that Barack Obama told an interviewer he had learned from his mistakes, the grandees of the political class swarmed to the bait. Like primitive mystics "reading" the entrails of a sacrificial animal, they began dissecting his comments to divine whether the president is signaling a course change after the election. No, he's not going to change. Why mess with perfection? Obama thinks he did everything right and nothing wrong. And he remains stuck on blaming others, including voters, the media, Republicans, Washington, and impossible-to-please liberals. In short, nearly halfway through his term, Obama still doesn't get it. He's clueless about his massive failures, which means, if he's given the chance, we can expect more of them. ...

Perspective From The Left: How Obama Screws His Base

Eric Alterman -- Daily Beast

In case you hadn't heard, yes Barack Obama did go before a $30,000-per-person Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the hedge-fund capital of the world -- and (at the home, I kid you not, of a guy named "Rich Richman" ) complain about how silly his base was being. (Laughter.) "If we get an historic health-care bill passed -- oh, well, the public option wasn't there. If you get the financial-reform bill passed -- then, well, I don't know about this particular derivatives rule, I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with that. And gosh, we haven't yet brought about world peace and -- (laughter.) I thought that was going to happen quicker." (Laughter.) With your own party heading for disaster in the polls, a number of its candidates are running away from you faster than you can say, "You really considered this guy for vice president?" ...

White House In Crisis; Will Section 4 Of The 25th Amendment Be Invoked?

Wayne Madsen -- Opinion Maker

Washington has not witnessed so much top level White House intrigue since October 20, 1973, when a Saturday night saw President Nixon fire the Watergate independent counsel, the U.S. attorney general, and the deputy attorney general in the "Saturday Night Massacre." Just ten days earlier, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned after being charged with accepting bribes while governor of Maryland. In the case of Barack Obama, the senior firings are not happening during a single nght but the recent involuntary sudden departures of the White House chief of staff and national security adviser, along with what is a putative president who is suffering from Nixonian levels of paranoia, depression, and schizophrenia, has some top-level administration officials considering the first-ever invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment -- the involuntary removal of the president from office. The White House meltdown has the Washington political circuit buzzing under the surface. ...

Obama Administration Pressures ISPs To Censor Websites

Paul Joseph Watson -- Prison Planet.com

The Obama administration seems determined to attain a stranglehold grip on the world wide web by whatever means possible. The true motivation behind doing so was revealed when Senator Joe Lieberman, a key supporter of cybersecurity legislation that would hand Obama the power to shut down portions of the Internet for months with no congressional oversight, told CNN's Candy Crowley that the ultimate intention was was to mimic the Communist Chinese system of Internet policing.

Obama's Errors On Arizona Law Exposed

James R. Edwards, Jr. -- Human Events

The Arizona law reflects the same language as the wording in federal immigration law. The state law doesn't create its own immigration policy. That makes the administration's legal challenge all the more specious. Its arguments parrot those the ACLU, the National Council of La Raza and similar activist groups make whenever a state or locality tries to enact a remedy to immigration-related problems that arise in their community. The Supreme Court and several appellate courts have treaded lightly in cases involving federal pre-emption. The courts have taken a cautionary stance when pre-emption is claimed, because of the slippery slope that easy findings of pre-emption would create. ...

People Are Angry At Obama For The Same Reasons They Were At Bush

Peter Roff -- U.S.News & World Report

Obama is a big spender and an advocate for bigger, more activist government. So was Bush, though not, perhaps, to the same degree. The same people who were mad at the latter were mad at the former, and have enlisted in the Tea Parties. It is only in the mind of a dedicated statist that the desire for smaller, more limited government can seem extreme, radical, or unhealthy. The Tea Party movement is not outrageous or outlandish or even, as someone suggested here on Thomas Jefferson Street just the other day, unthinking. The sense of panic felt on the left has become voluble, making the latest volley of assaults on the Tea Party an effort at explaining that the Tea Party movement is of its very nature irrational, a product of anger, and ultimately not in the country's best interest. ...

Barack Obama's Auntie Zeituni: Not The Poster Child For Immigration Reform

Jim Byrd -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Regarding this country's immigration, the only thing wrong with the system in place is the irremediable damage of decades of unwillingness to adequately fund it, the blatant refusal to enforce it, and the preposterous assumption of its harmlessness by the Left. Every president and Congress since Lyndon Johnson shares culpability for the current conglomeration of the 15-20 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Left needs the expedited conversion from illegal to citizen for votes, and the Right needs them regardless of their citizenship status for cheap labor. ...

New Strategy For Officer Testing Obama's Eligibility:
Are Orders Legal?

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

"As a medical officer and not a lawyer or constitutional scholar, LTC Lakin is not laying claim to be the sole arbiter of the president's constitutionality in attempting to determine, without any genuine evidence to make such a determination, the president's 'natural born' citizen status," the The American Patriot Foundation said. "The burden of proof rests solely on Barack Obama to demonstrate to the American people and to the U.S. armed forces that he commands, that he is lawfully serving in his current capacity as head of the executive branch of the federal government," the foundation said. Army prosecutors, along with the acting judge in the case, Denise Lind, have "made this determination of the commander in chief's eligibility under the Constitution impossible -- by denying discovery -- and essentially denying LTC Lakin the customary due process rights that defendants in American courts enjoy when facing criminal charges," the foundation elaborated. Earlier, the acting judge in the case, Denise Lind, ruled that nothing regarding Obama could be discussed during the trial. She noted at that time providing documentation on the president might prove "embarrassing" for him. ...

Railroading Of Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin Continues

Brian Fitzpatrick -- World Net Daily

An Army judge has made it "impossible" for a career medical officer to get a fair hearing on charges he refused to deploy to Afghanistan because of concern that obeying orders in the chain of command under an ineligible commander in chief would be illegal, his attorney says. The rulings came today from Col. Denise Lind, who in so many words told Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin to pound sand. Rocks actually. He faces up to four years at hard labor if convicted in his case. "We got absolutely slammed today," said Paul R. Jensen, lead counsel for the defense. "It's impossible for us to have a fair trial under these rulings." In her decision, Lind, acting as judge in the case, censored the last remaining arguments Lakin planned to make in his defense: motive and duty. Lakin had intended to explain his motive for disobeying the order and contend that it was his duty as a good soldier to disobey orders that he believes to be illegal. The defense also planned to call as witnesses Ambassador Alan Keyes and retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney. Keyes was to explain the constitutional issues involved in the case, and McInerney was to talk about the training soldiers receive regarding when they should question and even disobey orders. ...

Fox News Military Analyst Lt. Gen. Thomas G. McInerney (Ret.) Demands Obama Release His Birth Records

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

McInerney, who commanded forces armed with nuclear weapons, says the disclosure of Barack Obama's documentation proving his eligibility to be commander in chief is critical not just to the defense of an officer challenging Obama's status, but to the preservation of the nation itself. The general, who retired in 1994 after serving as vice commander in chief of USAF forces in Europe, commander of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing and assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, among other positions, said the chain of command issue is critical in today's world, since officers are obligated both to follow orders and to disobey illegal orders. "There can be no question that it is absolutely essential to good order and discipline in the military that there be no break in the unified chain of command, from the lowliest E-1 up to and including the commander in chief who is under the Constitution, the president of the United States. As military officers, we owe our ultimate loyalty not to superior officers or even to the president, but rather, to the Constitution." ...

Liar's Poker and Obama's 'Tell'

What did Obama know and when did he know it? We can expect to hear that question repeated over and over again, and this time without the news blackout imposed by all the networks, including Fox News, on the questions about Obama's birth certificate

Barack Obama had promised transparency in governance, but has proved himself to be just another practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics: cheesy, with a thick crust. His credibility had apparently hit bottom with his handling of the BP oil spill, coupled with the revelation that Obama was the largest recipient of campaign contributions from BP, but this latest revelation has pushed it into the sub-basement. When we first inaugurated the Obamalot section of MarchReport.com on January 27, 2009, with a logo containing the phrase "Transparency Since 2009 (Except When We're Opaque)," we got the expected protests that proclaimed the new messiah would be open about everything. Of course, we knew better, having already seen his duplicity regarding his legal qualifications to serve as President. It was not exactly a stretch to visualize how he would conduct himself in office, and he has lived down to our expectations.

On February 18, 2010, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) revealed on Comcast's Larry Kane Show that the White House had offered him a job to induce him to withdraw from the primary race against turncoat former Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who had switched parties in order to assure his re-election. It's interesting to note that the story, which is a public relations nightmare for Obama, was broken on a Comcast cable show, in that it is Comcast that is buying NBC (including MSNBC). Does this presage a change of direction for MSNBC, which to date has been little more than a public relations service for Obama?

It was rumored that Sestak, a retired naval Admiral, had been offered the position of Secretary of the Navy in violation of Title 18 USC §211, "Acceptance or solicitation to obtain appointive public office," Title 18 USC §595 "Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments," and Title 18 USC § 600 "Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity." Only the President (or, in this case, the guy who plays one on T.V.) could have authorized such an offer, since it is he who makes such appointments. This is an impeachable offense, being a "high crime or misdemeanor," which at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, meant a crime or misdemeanor that the offender would ordinarily have been spared the consequences of, by virtue of his high position.

On April 21, 2010, Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the top ranking Republican Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Sestak bribe attempt. To date, there has been no such appointment.

On the May 23 edition of Face The Nation, Sestak again confirmed the job offer, but would not give any details.

The range of human experiences is quite limited, and the same events keep repeating themselves over and over again, with a different cast of characters, much like a Hollywood re-make. The Sestak affair is eerily reminiscent of a Gus Van Sant re-make of the Watergate crisis. Much like Van Sant's color remake of Psycho, it's the same script replayed with lesser actors. Just as during the Nixon administration, and several times since, The White House has investigated itself, assuring us that nothing improper has happened; and, just as happened during the Nixon years, very few are buying it. Clearly, a special prosecutor or independent counsel needs to be appointed.

Modern-day reporters are inherently lazy, being closer to game-show hosts than the ink-stained wretches of yore, and like stories that present themselves already written; no wearing out shoe leather, or even using up cell-phone minutes nowadays. No press-pass sticking up out of their well-worn hat brim: that might muss their well-coifed hair. Regardless of how much they have covered up for Obama thus far, there is now blood in the water, and if it bleeds, it leads.

They started by quizzing his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who hemmed and hawed, being very careful to say nothing that could get him indicted as a co-conspirator. Then they asked Obama, who did his best impression of Ralph Kramden saying, "Hamena, Hamena, Hamena." Watch the video in the immediately preceding link, and take note of Obama's body language. Stiff as a board, saucer eyed, unblinkingly staring at Alice Kramden ... I mean, Major Garrett.

At least Richard Nixon had the guts to look right into the camera and lie. Just as Obama did when he fumbled the Inauguration oath...

... his "Tell" betrays him. Somewhere inside him, there is the awareness that he is doing wrong. Somewhere inside him, there is the desire to get caught, and that force is struggling to find it's way to the surface, to burst forth as if from John Hurt's chest.

The song "The Gambler," popularized by Kenny Rogers, contains these lyrics: "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces, / And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. / So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces."

You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold em. Hopefully, this time the press, which has horribly betrayed us thus far, will force him to show his hole card and surrender his chips. That said, you never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.

U.S. Physics Professor: 'Global Warming Is The Greatest And Most Successful Pseudoscientific Fraud I Have Seen In My Long Life'

Global Warming Re-Branded As 'Global Climate Disruption'

James Delingpole -- Telegraph (UK)

Obama's Science Czar John Holdren is worried about global warming. Having noticed that there hasn't actually been any global warming since 1998, he feels it ought to be called "global climate disruption" instead. That way whether it gets warmer or colder, wetter or drier, less climatically eventful or more climatically eventful, the result will be the same: it can all be put down to "global climate disruption." And that will be good, because it will give Holdren the excuse to introduce all the draconian measures he has long believed necessary if "global climate disruption" is to be averted: viz, state-enforced population control; a rewriting of the legal code so that trees are able to sue people; and the wholesale destruction of the US economy ("de-development" as he put it in the 1973 eco-fascist textbook he co-wrote Paul and Anne Ehrlich Human Ecology: Global Problems And Solutions). ...

The Medieval Warm Period: An Inconvenient Truth

Dr. Tim Ball -- Canada Free Press (CA)

The Lamb graph (a graph of northern hemisphere temperatures produced by Hubert Lamb) and its source were problematic for the people at the CRU who were also on the IPCC. It showed the 20th century was not the warmest temperatures ever and triggered the email Professor Deming received from a CRU member saying, "We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period." It appears Michael Mann's research with the complicity of others was designed to achieve that goal. They launched a campaign to discredit extensive evidence from a multitude of sources of the existence of the MWP. This included deliberate efforts by John Holdren, Obama's current Science Czar. ...

Obama Scrubs White House Website Of Climate Change Promises

Warner Todd Huston -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Especially interesting it the sudden disappearance of Obama's plan to commit $150 billion on clean energy research and development. Also gone is any clear pledge to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions via his formerly touted cap and trade legislative efforts. For instance, the section once titled "Closing the Carbon Loophole and Cracking Down on Polluters" is now vanished down the memory hole. ...

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
