 Intelligent Design Uncensored

evolutionnews.org

Intelligent Design Uncensored: An Easy- To-understand Guide to the Controversy is a book I've long hoped that someone would write. Don't get me wrong -- there are other good books out there that explain the fundamentals of intelligent design (ID) in plain language. But with clarity, elegance, and accuracy, Intelligent Design Uncensored fills this niche better than most. The authors, Dr. William Dembski (an expert in the technical arguments for ID) and Dr. Jonathan Witt (a writer with a strong grasp of the relevant science) -- both Discovery Institute senior fellows -- make an ideal team. This is a book for any reader -- student or otherwise -- who seeks a compelling, accurate, accessible case for intelligent design.

YEST Review: Glenn Beck's "The Overton Window"

Rob Port -- Say Anything Blog

Unlike his previous books, The Overton Window is a fictional story about the son of an influential PR magnate bent on re-making America and the world in his vision falling in love with a tea party/patriot movement leader who wants a return to the principles of the founding fathers. As a social political commentary, it hit on a lot of the hot political topics of the day: Bailouts, Excessive government grown beyond its constitutional restraints, Nanny statism.

A Mind-Changing Page

Thomas Sowell -- Townhall.com

Sometimes you can read a book that will change your mind on some fundamental issue. Rarely, however, is there just one page that can undermine or destroy a widely-held belief. But there is such a page-- page 77 of the book "Out of Work" by Richard Vedder and Lowell Gallaway. What is on that one page in "Out of Work: Unemployment and Government in Twentieth-Century America" that could change people's minds? Just a simple table, giving unemployment rates for every month during the entire decade of the 1930s. Those who think that the stock market crash in October 1929 is what caused the huge unemployment rates of the 1930s will have a hard time reconciling that belief with the data in that table.

Einstein's Brain Unlocks Some Mysteries Of The Mind

Jon Hamilton -- National Public Radio

Audio AND TEXT. In the 55 years since Albert Einstein's death, many scientists have tried to figure out what made him so smart. But no one tried harder than a pathologist named Thomas Harvey, who lost his job and his reputation in a quest to unlock the secrets of Einstein's genius. Harvey never found the answer. But through an unlikely sequence of events, his search helped transform our understanding of how the brain works. How that happened is a bizarre story that involves a dead genius, a stolen brain, a rogue scientist and a crazy idea that turned out not to be so crazy. Michael Paterniti describes it all in his book, Driving Mr. Albert: A Trip Across America with Einstein's Brain.

The Struggle For Tibet

Reviewed by J. Michael Cole -- Taipei Times (TW)

After nearly half a century of Chine occupation of Tibet, riots on an unprecedented scale occurred not only in the Tibetan Administrative Region (TAR), but also in parts of China with substantial Tibetan populations. Prior to what has come to be known as the March Incident of 2008, Tibetan protests had largely been limited to areas within TAR proper. How can we explain the spontaneous -- and violent -- uprising that shocked the world months before the Beijing Olympics and invited an ironfisted crackdown by the Chinese authorities? The answer is the culminating The Struggle for Tibet, a collection of articles written by Tibetan academic Tsering Shakya and the Chinese intellectual Wang Lixiong. In what often reads like a dialogue between the two authors, the book explores the question of Tibetan identity, religion, assimilation and resistance from the perspective of Tibetans.

Peddling Peril: How The Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies

Reviewed by Jeremy Bernstein -- New York Review of Books

A great deal has been written about Pakistani metallurgist A.Q. Khan and his collaborators, but I have never found an account as detailed as the one in "Peddling Peril: How the Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies," by the nuclear armaments expert David Albright. Albright holds master's degrees in physics and mathematics and has taught physics. For five years-between 1992 and 1997-he was part of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Action Team and in that capacity he spent time as a weapons inspector in Iraq. In 1993, he founded the Institute for Science and International Security, a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., of which he is president. In short, Albright is a perfect person to write a book like this.

Martin Luther King Jr. James Earl Ray, the dodgy career criminal and escaped convict who murdered King and helped turn 1968 into the sad, tumultuous year that it was, is the man with the gun in Hampton Sides' Hellhound on His Trail: The Stalking of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the International Hunt for His Assassin. New Biography Reveals Oprah's 'Hidden' Life

Jeremy Olshan -- New York Post

Oprah Winfrey -- who built a billion-dollar empire persuading everyone from celebs to average Joes to reveal the truth about themselves -- is a big phony when it comes to her own past, an explosive new book charges. Winfrey's relationship with longtime "love" Stedman Graham, her reputed dirt-poor upbringing in rural Mississippi, her rumored lesbian crushes on women such as Diane Sawyer -- all are stories she has manipulated for decades in the name of sensational ratings, according to writer Kitty Kelley's latest unauthorized biography "Oprah: A Biography." "Where Oprah got that nonsense about growing up in filth and roaches I have no idea," said a relative, Katherine Carr Esters. "I've confronted her and asked, 'Why do you tell such lies?' Oprah told me, 'That's what people want to hear. The truth is boring.'

Can Science Explain Heaven?

Lisa Miller -- Newsweek

There are those who believe that science will eventually explain everything -- including our enduring belief in heaven. The thesis here is very simple: heaven is not a real place, or even a process or a supernatural event. It's something that happens in your brain as you die. The author of this article first encountered this idea when she was researching her new book, Heaven: Our Enduring Fascination with the Afterlife.

This Is The Magazine Article That Has Gen. Stanley McChrystal In Deep Do-Do

Michael Hastings -- Rolling Stone

Official White House photo by Pete Souza

Official White House photo by Pete Souza

Stanley McChrystal, Obama's top commander in Afghanistan, has seized control of the war by never taking his eye off the real enemy: The wimps in the White House. After arriving in Afghanistan last June, the general conducted his own policy review, ordered up by Defense Secretary Robert Gates. The now-infamous report was leaked to the press, and its conclusion was dire: If we didn't send another 40,000 troops -- swelling the number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan by nearly half -- we were in danger of "mission failure." The White House was furious. McChrystal, they felt, was trying to bully Obama, opening him up to charges of being weak on national security unless he did what the general wanted. It was Obama versus the Pentagon, and the Pentagon was determined to kick the Obama's ass. ...

Officials: Gen. McChrystal Prepared To Resign

Military leaders rarely challenge their commander in chief publicly, and when they do, consequences tend to be more severe than a scolding. Obama will meet with McChrystal on Wednesday at the White House where the general is expected to be armed with a letter of resignation.  What Would Lincoln Do?

Doris Kearns Goodwin, Historian, in the New York Times

If Abraham Lincoln's experience is any guide, Gen. Stanley McChrystal's fate will be determined by Barack Obama's judgment of how his firing would affect the war in Afghanistan. For months during the Civil War, Lincoln chose to ignore insolent behavior by Gen. George McClellan, who served at times as the commander of the Army of the Potomac and the general in chief of the Union Army, arguing that his breaches of protocol were worth tolerating as long as he was exerting a positive influence on his forces. ...

Judge Blocks White House Ban On Drilling

Jennifer A. Dlouhy -- Houston Chronicle

A federal judge on Tuesday struck down the Obama administration's ban on deep-water drilling and rebuked the government for imposing a moratorium that would cause "irreparable harm to businesses" along the Gulf Coast. The administration imposed the ban May 27 to allow time for an independent commission's investigation into the blowout of a BP well in 5,000 feet of water that destroyed the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, killed 11 workers and unleashed the nation's worst oil spill. The administration promised an immediate appeal. ...

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar To Issue New Moratorium Order

BBC News (UK)

A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that the six-month moratorium put in place in the wake of April's massive oil spill was too broad. But suspending drilling "was and is the right decision", Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said. The White House had already said it would challenge the judge's ruling. The judge said the lengthy ban was "invalid" and could not be justified, as the negative impact on local businesses was simply too great. "I will issue a new order in the coming days that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate, and within our authorities," Mr Salazar said in a statement. ...

Obama Seeks More Than $100 Million For Laid-Off Oil Rig Workers

Julianna Goldman -- Bloomberg News

The Obama administration is still weighing how to pay for aid to oil rig workers who've lost jobs because of a moratorium on deepwater drilling, in addition to $100 million pledged by BP Plc, administration officials said. The officials refused to say whether the administration would seek more money from BP or its partners in the damaged and leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico. Compensation for laid-off rig workers emerged as one of the points of contention heading into last week's White House meeting that included Obama, BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg and Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward. ...

Being too left wing for mainstream America, and too mainstream for the left is not a new problem for the Democratic party. YEST Shahzad Calls Times Square Bomb Plot 'War'

Ron Scherer -- Christian Science Monitor

Shahzad's admission of guilt had been expected. He waived his right to a speedy arraignment, and he gave the US government information about his training and contacts in Waziristan, Pakistan, with explosive trainers. What was not expected was the defiance with which Shahzad defended what he did. Shahzad told US District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum he was "a Muslim soldier" avenging the deaths of Muslims killed by Americans overseas, and that he didn't care that his bomb could have killed children. "It's a war. I am part of the answer to the US terrorizing the Muslim nations and the Muslim people," he said. ...

YEST Judge Considers Request To Block Drilling Ban

Jennifer Dlouhy And Tom Fowler -- Houston Chronicle

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman said he would rule no later than noon Wednesday in a decision that could dictate the future of the White House plans to pause deep-water oil and gas exploration while an independent commission probes the cause of the April 20 blowout of BP's Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico. It destroyed the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, killed 11 workers and triggered the nation's worst oil spill. Feldman heard arguments on the case Monday. It originally was filed by Hornbeck Offshore Services of Covington, La., and other oil field services companies have since joined the bid to block the ban on deep-water oil and gas exploration. The companies argue that the ban on drilling in 500 or more feet of water is arbitrary and capricious because it halted activity at 33 permitted wells without any evidence they weren't complying with safety standards. ...

Tax Liens Are Good Investments

By Mitchell Goldstein

In his first Column for MarchReport.com, "Coach Mitch" Goldstein describes how tax liens are a great way to enter the real estate market if you are a passive investor. If you do the research, and you are confident of your information and your numbers, then putting your capital at risk in a tax lien is a very good investment; if the property is good, then you have a very secure investment with a much better than average rate of return.

Offering Service Blocks Now A Fireable Offense At Verizon

Verizon Wireless has an outrageous practice of selling phones whose arrow keys are preprogrammed to connect to the Web-and if you hit one accidentally, you get zapped with a $2 Internet charge, instantly. After much outcry and even an FCC investigation, Verizon Wireless installed a "landing page"-a page on the phone that lets you cancel before you incur the charge. But plenty of people still find those mysterious $2 charges. If you truly never use Internet features, you can call Verizon to request a "data block"-to say, "I just don't use the Internet on my phone, and I don't want to run the risk of getting hit with those $2 charges." Now, a Verizon Wireless representative can be reprimanded and even terminated for proactively offering to block any of the following: Web Access Blocks, Data Blocks, Premium SMS blocking, Application download blocking, Vcast Music or Vcast Video download blocks. ...

He says during the 2008 campaign when the issue of Obama's constitutional eligibility first arose, the elections office was inundated with requests to verify the birthplace of the U.S. senator from Illinois. "I had direct access to the Social Security database, the national crime computer, state driver's license information, international passport information, basically just about anything you can imagine to get someone's identity," Adams explained. Poll Shows Majority Wants Obama Records

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

"Our latest polling shows a majority of Americans -- 55 percent -- want Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation," pollster Fritz Wenzel of Wenzel Strategies said. "Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," he said. The poll said when asked about whether Obama's background documentation - the school records, birth records and others - should be released, the 55 percent who said yes included more than 82 percent of the GOP, 55 percent of independents and nearly 28 percent of Democrats. Further, another 17.1 percent of Americans said Obama should release some of his documentation, making it nearly three in four Americans who want the president to unlock the steel door on some or all of his background information. ...

Archaeologists Find Oldest Paintings Of Apostles

Philip Pullella -- Reuters

Archaeologists and art restorers using new laser technology have discovered what they believe are the oldest paintings of the faces of Jesus Christ's apostles. The images in a branch of the catacombs of St Tecla near St Paul's Basilica, just outside the walls of ancient Rome, were painted at the end of the 4th century or the start of the 5th century. Archaeologists believe these images may have been among those that most influenced later artists' depictions of the faces of Christ's most important early followers. ...

Court Says It's Okay To Remove Content From The Public Domain And Put It Back Under Copyright

Mike Masnick -- Techdirt

You may recall that last year, a district court made a very important ruling on what appeared to be a minor part of copyright law. The "Golan" case asked a simple question: once something is officially in the public domain, can Congress pull it out and put it back under copyright? The situation came about because of (yet another) trade agreement that pulled certain foreign works out of the public domain. A district court had initially said that this move did not violate the law, but the appeals court sent it back, saying that the lower court had not analyzed the First Amendment issue, and whether this was a case where the inherent conflict between the First Amendment and copyright law went too far to the side of copyright by violating the "traditional contours of copyright law." Getting a second crack at this, the district court got it right -- and was the first court to point out that massively expanded copyright law can, in fact, violate the First Amendment. ...

When actor Val Kilmer recently applied for permits to turn his 6,000-acre ranch outside Santa Fe into an upscale bed-and-breakfast, several of his neighbors protested. And they didn't want him to get his way on the ranch unless he apologized. Mr. Kilmer, who starred in "Tombstone," "The Doors," "Batman Forever" and, more recently, "MacGruber," was quoted -- misquoted, he says -- describing his rugged corner of New Mexico as "the homicide capital of the Southwest." Monday, June 7, 2010
TOPICS DISCUSSED:

The Kramdenation of Barack Obama

In 2009, Barack Obama issued this Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government, which said, in part: "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust, and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government." That from the largest recipient of campaign funds from British Petrolium, who were repaid with lax oversight and regulatory exemptions that led to the Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill. In this podcast, Robert Jay March discusses the attempts to bribe Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff out of their respective primaries, contrasting this with the promises of openness and transparency made by Barack Obama while he was running, and in the early days of his occupancy of the White House. Paraphrasing Obama's response to the scandal: Hamena, hamena, hamena.

Liar's Poker and Obama's 'Tell'

What did Obama know and when did he know it? We can expect to hear that question repeated over and over again, and this time without the news blackout imposed by all the networks, including Fox News, on the questions about Obama's birth certificate

Barack Obama had promised transparency in governance, but has proved himself to be just another practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics: cheesy, with a thick crust. His credibility had apparently hit bottom with his handling of the BP oil spill, coupled with the revelation that Obama was the largest recipient of campaign contributions from BP, but this latest revelation has pushed it into the sub-basement. When we first inaugurated the Obamalot section of MarchReport.com on January 27, 2009, with a logo containing the phrase "Transparency Since 2009 (Except When We're Opaque)," we got the expected protests that proclaimed the new messiah would be open about everything. Of course, we knew better, having already seen his duplicity regarding his legal qualifications to serve as President. It was not exactly a stretch to visualize how he would conduct himself in office, and he has lived down to our expectations.

On February 18, 2010, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) revealed on Comcast's Larry Kane Show that the White House had offered him a job to induce him to withdraw from the primary race against turncoat former Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who had switched parties in order to assure his re-election. It's interesting to note that the story, which is a public relations nightmare for Obama, was broken on a Comcast cable show, in that it is Comcast that is buying NBC (including MSNBC). Does this presage a change of direction for MSNBC, which to date has been little more than a public relations service for Obama?

It was rumored that Sestak, a retired naval Admiral, had been offered the position of Secretary of the Navy in violation of Title 18 USC §211, "Acceptance or solicitation to obtain appointive public office," Title 18 USC §595 "Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments," and Title 18 USC § 600 "Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity." Only the President (or, in this case, the guy who plays one on T.V.) could have authorized such an offer, since it is he who makes such appointments. This is an impeachable offense, being a "high crime or misdemeanor," which at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, meant a crime or misdemeanor that the offender would ordinarily have been spared the consequences of, by virtue of his high position.

On April 21, 2010, Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the top ranking Republican Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Sestak bribe attempt. To date, there has been no such appointment.

On the May 23 edition of Face The Nation, Sestak again confirmed the job offer, but would not give any details.

The range of human experiences is quite limited, and the same events keep repeating themselves over and over again, with a different cast of characters, much like a Hollywood re-make. The Sestak affair is eerily reminiscent of a Gus Van Sant re-make of the Watergate crisis. Much like Van Sant's color remake of Psycho, it's the same script replayed with lesser actors. Just as during the Nixon administration, and several times since, The White House has investigated itself, assuring us that nothing improper has happened; and, just as happened during the Nixon years, very few are buying it. Clearly, a special prosecutor or independent counsel needs to be appointed.

Modern-day reporters are inherently lazy, being closer to game-show hosts than the ink-stained wretches of yore, and like stories that present themselves already written; no wearing out shoe leather, or even using up cell-phone minutes nowadays. No press-pass sticking up out of their well-worn hat brim: that might muss their well-coifed hair. Regardless of how much they have covered up for Obama thus far, there is now blood in the water, and if it bleeds, it leads.

They started by quizzing his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who hemmed and hawed, being very careful to say nothing that could get him indicted as a co-conspirator. Then they asked Obama, who did his best impression of Ralph Kramden saying, "Hamena, Hamena, Hamena." Watch the video in the immediately preceding link, and take note of Obama's body language. Stiff as a board, saucer eyed, unblinkingly staring at Alice Kramden ... I mean, Major Garrett.

At least Richard Nixon had the guts to look right into the camera and lie. Just as Obama did when he fumbled the Inauguration oath...

... his "Tell" betrays him. Somewhere inside him, there is the awareness that he is doing wrong. Somewhere inside him, there is the desire to get caught, and that force is struggling to find it's way to the surface, to burst forth as if from John Hurt's chest.

The song "The Gambler," popularized by Kenny Rogers, contains these lyrics: "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces, / And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. / So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces."

You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold em. Hopefully, this time the press, which has horribly betrayed us thus far, will force him to show his hole card and surrender his chips. That said, you never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.

 Another Crisis Not Wasted

Klaus Rohrich -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Following the Rahm Emanuel playbook, Barack Obama is losing no time in taking full advantage of the Gulf oil spill crisis to further his far left agenda. When he was addressing the nation from the oval office last week his tone and demeanor were combative, as his speech was filled with words and phrases that alluded to warfare. Obama's speech wasn't so much about the Gulf's environmental disaster as it was about laying the groundwork to get a draconian cap and trade law passed through Congress, one that would relegate America to the level of a third-world country by raising the cost of living to such an extent that suicide might be a more attractive financial strategy. ...

Why Obamacare Is Unconstitutional

Van Irion -- Desert Conservative

In 1919, the regulation of a drug, alcohol, required a Constitutional amendment to be ratified by the States. Yet, today we have the FDA which regulates every "prescription" drug and the DEA which regulates every "illegal" drug. So how did we go from requiring a Constitutional amendment to regulate just one drug, to multiple Federal agencies that regulate drugs without any Constitutional amendment whatsoever? During the presidency of FDR, the Supreme Court drastically changed the interpretation of the Commerce Clause to empower Congress to regulate Commerce within the States. For the prior 150 years, the Supreme Court interpreted the Commerce clause to prevent unfair competition between the States. For the past 73 years, Congress has viewed the precedent from the FDR court as Constitutional authority to regulate whatever they please. ...

Obama Asks America To Commit Suicide

Alan Caruba -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Obama cited China as a nation pursuing "clean energy", but the he said nothing of the new coal-fired plants to generate electricity that China has been opening every week in recent years and will continue to do in the years ahead. He did not mention that China is literally drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Cuba. Like every modern nation, China needs oil. Coal provides fifty percent of our electricity and it could provide even more; a source that could last for centuries, except that the Obama administration is doing everything it can to thwart the building of new coal-fired plants, to shut down coal mining operations. We are the Saudi Arabia of coal, yet this administration has declared war on the most abundant source of energy we have in America. ...

Egyptian Foreign Minister Says Obama Told Him He's A Muslim

Israel Today Magazine (IL)

In an article that ran in Israel Today Magazine (IL) on April 29, 2010, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit is quoted as having made the following statement on Nile TV (EG): "The American President told me in confidence that he is a Muslim." Needless to say, that article has set the internet on fire. We link to it here, so that you can read it in context for yourself. ...

Stuck On Stupid

Christopher Chantrill -- American Thinker

The big problem for Obama is that the Gulf oil spill is his fourth major mistake. The first big mistake was the $787-billion stimulus package. The second was the appeasement of thug dictators, Islamist and leftist. The third mistake was ObamaCare. The fourth is the Gulf. The horrifying thing is that we Americans can't afford all these mistakes. We can't afford a "president" stuck on stupid. ...

Obama, The Progressive Marxist Avenger

Sandy Stringfellow -- Canada Free Press (CA)

When one looks carefully at the company with which Obama surrounds himself, and the Progressive Marxist agenda they share, it's entirely reasonable to be not only suspicious, but genuinely afraid of their collective capacity for inflicting a crippling and permanent level of damage to our glorious republic. This would have to include the possibility of outright destruction. In fact, many observers would argue that is precisely the goal. So Obama the Progressive marches on, in all of his ignominious glory, undeterred in his mission to unite the world in equality of tyranny, starvation, death, and destruction. ...

Obama Can't Match The Clintons' Cool Sleaziness

Chris Stirewalt -- Washington Examiner

When "not illegal" is the best thing that the White House can say about the behavior of the president's top aides, it's not a good sign. But the Obama administration finds itself holding the sleazy-but-legal line on deals Rahm Emanuel and his lieutenant, Jim Messina, tried to cut to keep Democrats Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff from taking on the national party's preferred candidates in Senate primaries. In both cases, the efforts failed. ...

Obama Vs. Israel

Abraham Foxman -- Jerusalem Post (IL)

The US has decided to support a resolution at the UN Nonproliferation conference which specifically calls on Israel to open up its nuclear facilities and join the NPT treaty. What does this decision say about the Obama administration's assumptions and directions regarding Israel? The administration is reportedly trying to reassure Israel that if any similar resolution comes to the Security Council, it will veto it. Still, another element in the historic relationship between the two countries has been eviscerated. What is becoming a pattern is that when the administration looks at America's broader interests, it too often chooses to see the Israeli position as undermining those interests. ...

America Is In Trouble, And Obama Can't Be Counted On To Save Her

Michael Goodwin -- FOX News

Barack Obama is the backward man. Teddy Roosevelt's advice to "speak softly and carry a big stick" was meant as a guide to successful foreign relations. Obama has completely muddled the message. He speaks softly to foreign adversaries and uses the big stick on American dissenters. Iran and Syria are wooed endlessly with carrots, apologies and promises of grand bargains. They respond with taunts and threats and pay no penalty. North Korea sinks a South Korean ship, and our secretary of state says it means no more business as usual. That's an admission it has been business as usual even after the loony kingdom tested nukes. The Mexican president comes to Washington and berates American citizens for expressing their views through the democratic process, and Obama shamefully nods in agreement. A State Department aide apologizes to China -- to China! -- about our treatment of illegal immigrants. ...

Where Professors Rule, Life Is Cruel

Stuart Schwartz -- American Thinker

Welcome to government by professor. Assorted faculty of Ivy League schools have come together to form an administration with the least real-world and most academic experience of any in modern times, the American Enterprise Institute notes. And so we have a government of scolds, lecturers, and bullies, arrogant academics cheered on by mainstream media when they take a "paddle" to average citizens and taxpayers. Witness the latest addition to the administration's professorial ranks: Dr. Donald Berwick, the Harvard Medical School professor picked to head the Medicare program. Of course, his knowledge of senior health care is academic, having never actually treated seniors. In Cambridge and Hyde Park (University of Chicago) and Berkeley, they think transforming thoughts about "health outcomes"; in the rest of America, it is called "death panels." ...

Barack Obama's Verbal Trickery

Kelly O'Connell -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Political movements, in particular, traffic in purposeful verbal trickery. In fact, some especially depend upon fallacies to drive their message since their essential convictions are defective or even diseased. Such groups as the Nazis, Fascists and Communists immediately spring to mind here. Barack Obama peppers his rhetoric with a veritable buffet of verbal trickery. But why? Speakers do not mislead unless they sense an inability to otherwise persuade their audience. This is a short list of some of the most persistent members of this false-argument tsunami. ...

An Inconvenient Lie

Pacific Islands Not Sinking From Global Warming

Washington Times

In a forthcoming issue of the journal Global and Planetary Change, researchers from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission in Fiji documented changes in 27 vulnerable, low-lying reef islands in the Central Pacific. Using aerial photographs taken as early as 1944, the areas were carefully mapped and compared with modern satellite images. It turns out that the islands did, in fact, change over time, but they are hardly sinking. Overall, 20 grew or remained stable. The island of Funamanu, for example, expanded from 7.4 acres to 9.5 acres in size -- a 28 percent growth. Only seven islands shrunk, with the biggest percentage change occurring on Tengasu, which dropped from a tiny 1.7 acres to 1.5 acres -- a diminishment of 9,670 square feet, the size of Mr. Gore's Tennessee mansion. ...

Prepare For A Bit Of Cooling, Predicts Geologist

Dennis Avery -- Canada Free Press (CA)

"Global warming is over-at least for a few decades," geologist Don Easterbrook, professor emeritus from Western Washington University told the Heartland Institute's Fourth International Conference on Climate Change on May 19. He warned, however, us not to rejoice. Colder winters kill twice as many people as hot weather while crop production suffers from shorter growing seasons and weather-disrupted harvests. Current data seem to support Easterbrook's prediction of an end to global warming, at least for the next three decades. Since 1998, atmospheric CO2 has continued to increase-but total solar activity, as measured by satellites, has declined sharply after trending strongly, but erratically, upward for 150 years. ...

The Motive Force Behind "Climate Change"

Joseph A Olson -- Climate Realists

The vast difference between the maximum heat and minimum ice age weather cycles on the surface of the earth cannot be accounted for by any solar or atmospheric variables. In fact, there is another force that renders even short-term climate forecasts inaccurate. That force is the enormous Geo-Nuclear, heat producing fission reactions of the heavy elements that form the earth's core. Mankind can neither predict nor control this force and is just as powerless to control the volcanoes, earthquakes and ice ages that are the results of variations in this geo-nuclear force. The 11,000 degree F temperature at the earth's core is not caused by gravity, by solar radiation or by atmospheric insulation. Legislative efforts to modify weather with miniscule changes of parts per million of carbon dioxide, a benign, life giving molecule, will soon be recognized as the most naïve misinterpretation of earth science since the world was flat. ...

"Environmentalist" Al Gore Living Even Larger

John Stossel -- FOX Business

Gore has spent "$8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa on 1.5 acres with a swimming pool, spa and fountains... The Italian-style house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms." This is in addition to the 10,000 square-foot mansion that he and Tipper own in Tennessee. A few years ago, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research reported that Gore's home burned more electricity in one month than the average Nashville home uses in a year. ...

James Lovelock, Who Developed The Gaia Theory, Says "Democracy Must Be Put On Hold" To Prevent Climate Change

Leo Hickman -- Guardian (UK)

Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change from radically impacting on our lives over the coming decades. This is the stark conclusion of James Lovelock, the globally respected environmental thinker and independent scientist who developed the Gaia theory. "I don't think we're yet evolved to the point where we're clever enough to handle a complex a situation as climate change," said Lovelock in his first in-depth interview since the theft of the UEA emails last November. "The inertia of humans is so huge that you can't really do anything meaningful." One of the main obstructions to meaningful action is "modern democracy", he added. "Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while." ...

Global-Warming Alarmism Dying A Slow Death

Alex Newman -- New American Magazine

The rapid loss of public credibility over all the errors has also accompanied numerous calls by prominent voices for official inquiries and even criminal investigations. Several universities involved have already launched reviews. And even previous IPCC chief Professor Robert Watson, for example, is calling for a probe to investigate "warming bias" by the UN panel. "The mistakes all appear to have gone in the direction of making it seem like climate change is more serious by overstating the impact. That is worrying," he told the U.K. Times Online. "The IPCC needs to look at this trend in the errors and ask why it happened." The UN will indeed launch an "independent" inquiry, but critics generally expect a coverup. U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) went further, proposing criminal investigations to determine if alarmists violated any laws. A Senate report produced for Inhofe's Environment and Public Works Committee concluded that, among other problems, "scientists involved in the CRU controversy violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, may have violated federal laws." Similarly, British authorities were investigating possible criminal activity by Climategate scientists who refused to provide documents and data under lawful Freedom of Information requests. The scientists may reportedly escape prosecution under the FOI law because of a six-month statute of limitations. ...

Stories You May Have Missed In Our Previous Issues

At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
