Einstein's Brain Unlocks Some Mysteries Of The Mind

Jon Hamilton -- National Public Radio

Audio AND TEXT. In the 55 years since Albert Einstein's death, many scientists have tried to figure out what made him so smart. But no one tried harder than a pathologist named Thomas Harvey, who lost his job and his reputation in a quest to unlock the secrets of Einstein's genius. Harvey never found the answer. But through an unlikely sequence of events, his search helped transform our understanding of how the brain works. How that happened is a bizarre story that involves a dead genius, a stolen brain, a rogue scientist and a crazy idea that turned out not to be so crazy. Michael Paterniti describes it all in his book, Driving Mr. Albert: A Trip Across America with Einstein's Brain.

The Struggle For Tibet

Reviewed by J. Michael Cole -- Taipei Times (TW)

After nearly half a century of Chine occupation of Tibet, riots on an unprecedented scale occurred not only in the Tibetan Administrative Region (TAR), but also in parts of China with substantial Tibetan populations. Prior to what has come to be known as the March Incident of 2008, Tibetan protests had largely been limited to areas within TAR proper. How can we explain the spontaneous -- and violent -- uprising that shocked the world months before the Beijing Olympics and invited an ironfisted crackdown by the Chinese authorities? The answer is the culminating The Struggle for Tibet, a collection of articles written by Tibetan academic Tsering Shakya and the Chinese intellectual Wang Lixiong. In what often reads like a dialogue between the two authors, the book explores the question of Tibetan identity, religion, assimilation and resistance from the perspective of Tibetans.

Peddling Peril: How The Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies

Reviewed by Jeremy Bernstein -- New York Review of Books

A great deal has been written about Pakistani metallurgist A.Q. Khan and his collaborators, but I have never found an account as detailed as the one in "Peddling Peril: How the Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies," by the nuclear armaments expert David Albright. Albright holds master's degrees in physics and mathematics and has taught physics. For five years-between 1992 and 1997-he was part of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Action Team and in that capacity he spent time as a weapons inspector in Iraq. In 1993, he founded the Institute for Science and International Security, a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., of which he is president. In short, Albright is a perfect person to write a book like this.

Book Review: 'Hellhound On His Trail' By Hampton Sides

Art Winslow -- Los Angeles Times

A bestselling author reconstructs an assassin's life and the events leading up to the killing of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. James Earl Ray, the dodgy career criminal and escaped convict who murdered King and helped turn 1968 into the sad, tumultuous year that it was, is the man with the gun in Hampton Sides' Hellhound on His Trail: The Stalking of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the International Hunt for His Assassin. And yet there are hellhounds aplenty in Sides' book, notable among them George Wallace and J. Edgar Hoover.

New Biography Reveals Oprah's 'Hidden' Life

Jeremy Olshan -- New York Post

Oprah Winfrey -- who built a billion-dollar empire persuading everyone from celebs to average Joes to reveal the truth about themselves -- is a big phony when it comes to her own past, an explosive new book charges. Winfrey's relationship with longtime "love" Stedman Graham, her reputed dirt-poor upbringing in rural Mississippi, her rumored lesbian crushes on women such as Diane Sawyer -- all are stories she has manipulated for decades in the name of sensational ratings, according to writer Kitty Kelley's latest unauthorized biography "Oprah: A Biography." "Where Oprah got that nonsense about growing up in filth and roaches I have no idea," said a relative, Katherine Carr Esters. "I've confronted her and asked, 'Why do you tell such lies?' Oprah told me, 'That's what people want to hear. The truth is boring.'

Richard A. Clarke -- Network World

"The entire phenomenon is shrouded in such government secrecy that it makes the Cold War look like a time of openness and transparency. Can Science Explain Heaven?

Lisa Miller -- Newsweek

There are those who believe that science will eventually explain everything -- including our enduring belief in heaven. The thesis here is very simple: heaven is not a real place, or even a process or a supernatural event. It's something that happens in your brain as you die. The author of this article first encountered this idea when she was researching her new book, Heaven: Our Enduring Fascination with the Afterlife.

Union Trades Fear Oil Spill Will Foul BP Renovations Planned In Northwest Indiana

Katie Drews -- Chicago Union News

The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has left some union tradesmen who are working construction at a BP plant in Indiana suddenly uneasy about the future of their workload. Though the company has said the $3.8 billion modernization project at the BP Whiting Refinery -- located about 20 miles from Chicago across the Indiana towns of Whiting, East Chicago and Hammond -- will continue as planned, some unions reported that work has slowed down since the leak started a few weeks ago. ...

The Army ousted top supervisors of Arlington National Cemetery in the wake of a blistering report that found some graves had been mismarked and that raised questions about the Virginia burial ground's management, officials announced Thursday. Army Secretary John McHugh said the Army inspector general's report raised questions about 211 gravesites and found unmarked graves, burial sites with the wrong headstones and improper handling of cremated remains. YEST B.P. Oil Spill Estimates Double

Helen Pidd -- Guardian (UK)

Latest estimates from scientists studying the disaster for the US government suggest 42-100 million gallons of oil have already entered the Gulf. Most experts believe there is more oil gushing into the sea in an hour than officials originally said was spilling in an entire day. It is the third, and perhaps not the last, time the Obama administration has had to increase its estimate of how much oil is gushing. The revised figures suggest the disaster will be far more costly for BP, which has seen its stock plummet since the 20 April explosion that killed 11 workers and triggered the spill. ...

YEST Has U.S. Bloodlust For B.P. Gone Too Far?

Andrew Clark --Guardian (UK)

As each day goes by, the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico becomes more gruesome. Oil-drenched birds and turtles wash up along the shoreline, pristine beaches are polluted by balls of tar and an oily slick laps at Louisiana's ecologically fragile marshland. Understandably, Americans are livid. But has the bloodlust directed at BP gone too far? Egged on by catch-all protest coalitions, a "seize BP" campaign is organising demonstrations in major cities calling on the US government to snatch the British company's US assets. A "boycott BP" action group advocates shunning BP service stations. Placards abound with slogans such as "God bless America -- go to hell BP" and "BP -- billionaire polluters". The wife and children of BP's chief executive, Tony Hayward, are under police protection following threats. ...

Charlie Crist, Arlen Specter, Artur Davis: Can Centrists Survive?

Carl M. Cannon -- Politics Daily

The Founders of our republic, most especially George Washington, mistrusted political parties believing -- rightly, as it happens -- that they would encourage divisiveness and factionalism. President Washington himself put it quite eloquently: "We must drive far away the demon of party spirit and local reproach." Alas, the U.S. Constitution itself was a polarizing document. For starters, it merely deferred the explosive issue of slavery, while creating all kinds of other splintering with its other contortions. Initially, it was embraced by urban mercantilists, and decried by rural farmers. And so did our union begin, uneasily. One Framer, Benjamin Franklin, was intimately familiar with the concept of polarization -- Franklin had actually discovered the concept of electrical polarity -- and there is some evidence that Franklin realized that the scientific principle in which charged particles repel each other to opposite poles could apply to human beings as well. As the Constitution that forged a nation was being published in Philadelphia he took note of its flaws in a letter to his sister, adding: "We have, however, done our best, and it must take its chance." ...

Rabbi Who Outed Helen Thomas 'Reevaluating' His 'Liberal' Allegiance

Brad Wilmouth -- News Busters

Rabbi David Nesenoff, known for exposing Helen Thomas's anti-Semitic views, said that, up until now, he has considered himself to be a liberal Democrat -- who even opposed the Iraq War and supported Barack Obama -- but now asserts that "I have to really reevaluate liberal and conservative and really find out where I stand because I think I've been a little blind." As Nesenoff recounted that he had previously agreed with Thomas in her opposition to the war in Iraq, and her challenging of President Bush on the matter, he now sees himself as unknowingly being allied with people who think that "Israel and the Jewish people don't have a connection." ...

N.Y. State Legislature Faces Government Shutdown Vote

Rick Karlin -- Albany Times Union

"We are not going to shut down government and risk the safety and livelihood of millions of New Yorkers. As we continue to make progress on a final budget, we expect to pass the emergency extender and meet taxpayers' needs," said Austin Shafran, spokesman for the Senate Democrats. An actual government shutdown would look bad for lawmakers who are seeking re-election in November and already are worried about what they fear is a growing anti-incumbent mood. While Gov. Paterson might take some of that blame, he isn't running for re-election. ...

MSNBC Works With Alex Jones To Discredit Tea Party Movement

Cliff Kincaid -- Right Side News

Radio host Alex Jones, who believes that 9/11 was a U.S. government plot and "inside job" conspiracy, is featured in Chris Matthews' Wednesday documentary on MSNBC as a leader of the "New Right" and the Tea Party movement. But Jones has absolutely nothing to do with the conservative or Tea Party movements. But Jones is not and never has been a conservative. Jones has much more in common with the left than the right. He is, for example, a member of the 9/11 Truth Movement, as was Van Jones, the Obama official fired after evidence of his communist background began to surface. The 9/11 Truth Movement was originally designed to undercut evidence that Muslims were behind the attacks that killed almost 3,000 Americans. Leftists joined the movement and used it to undermine the Bush Administration drive for a military response to Islamic terrorism and its base of operations in the Middle East. ...

YEST The Year Of The Conservative Woman

Bruce Walker -- American Thinker

This would seem to be more the Year of the Republican Woman. Nikki Haley has an excellent chance of becoming the first female governor of South Carolina with her thumping victory in the primary. Sharron Angle also has an excellent chance of knocking off Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. In California, two successful women, Whitman and Fiorina, will carry the Republican banner for governor and senator. Susana Martinez is the Republican gubernatorial nominee in New Mexico, and if she wins, which polls show as likely, she will be the first female Latino governor in American history. In neighboring Arizona, Jan Brewer has become a hero to Republicans for standing up with grace, wit, and courage to the leftist establishment media and to President Obama. In nearby Oklahoma, polls show Congresswoman Mary Fallin as likely to be the next governor. If Senator Hutchison had won the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Texas, then voters in November across the entire tier of states bordering Mexico (and also Oklahoma) could have elected Republican women as their governors. Kay Bailey Hutchison, however, did not win, and that is the essence of the political story. It is really the year of the conservative, not the Republican woman. Ideology, not political party, and much less gender, guides voters today. ...

YEST Marco Rubio: Obama Doctrine Is "Appeasing Our Enemies"

David Brody -- CBN News

Marco Rubio: "The Obama Doctrine of appeasing our enemies, alienating our allies, and delegating our national security to the international community may have won [Barack] Obama a Nobel Peace Prize, but it has made the world a more volatile and dangerous place. This administration has turned its back on the decades-old post-World War II system of alliances that previous presidents, Republicans and Democrats alike, built and nurtured. The result has been chaos. Today our allies look at America and the future of U.S. foreign policy as a proverbial jump ball, with unprecedented uncertainty about where America will stand. Israel is a particularly striking example of what is wrong with [Barack] Obama's approach to foreign policy." ...

Former Blagojevich aide Alonzo "Lon" Monk testified that Blagojevich told him that Jones (who has since retired) would not call an ethics bill that Blagojevich strongly opposed if "Rod named him to Obama's Senate seat if Obama won in November." YEST Blagojevich's 'Firewall' Made Of Rice Paper

Kristen McQueary -- Southtown Star

Federal prosecutors piped into the courtroom the first of thousands of recordings they obtained in fall 2008 from Blagojevich's home, campaign office and the cell phones of his closest associates. The first conversation played for jurors -- intense, biting and embroidered in profanity -- jarred a courtroom audience that spent three days hearing tedious, monotone testimony from Blagojevich's former chief of staff, Lon Monk. The tapes and another full day of admissions from Monk revealed the full extent of Blagojevich's money-raising obsession. He knew everything -- who was giving how much and when, and he would sulk and pout when donors held off. So much for Blagojevich beating Count 24, a "making false statements" charge based on a 2005 interview Blagojevich gave to federal investigators. During it, he claimed a "firewall" existed between the campaign and government sides of his administration to ensure there was no conflict. One side had no idea what the other was doing. ...

In his first Column for MarchReport.com, "Coach Mitch" Goldstein describes how tax liens are a great way to enter the real estate market if you are a passive investor. If you do the research, and you are confident of your information and your numbers, then putting your capital at risk in a tax lien is a very good investment; if the property is good, then you have a very secure investment with a much better than average rate of return.

Hints Of Afghan Riches Hidden During Decades Of Conflict

James Risen -- New York Times

In 2004, U.S. geologists sent to Afghanistan as part of a broader reconstruction effort stumbled across an intriguing series of old charts and data that hinted at major mineral deposits in the country. They soon learned the data from the library of the Afghan Geological Survey had been collected by Soviet mining experts during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s, but cast aside when the Soviets withdrew in 1989. The handful of U.S. geologists who pored over the data said the results were astonishing. ...

Sabrina Canfield -- Courthouse News Service

After an oil industry insider told CNN on Wednesday that there "isn't enough money in the world to clean up the Gulf of Mexico" and that BP may be forced into bankruptcy in about a month, BP stock tumbled by 15.8 percent on the New York Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, BP and federal officials met to address BP's delay in processing large claims, and the Coast Guard admiral in charge of the federal response demanded that BP provide more information. Ian Sherr and John Kell -- Dow Jones Newswires

Because of the charge, Dell said its profit for the quarter ended April 30 was 17 cents as opposed to the originally announced 22 cents. Still, the new figure is two cents higher than the company reported a year earlier. Dell's revenue and adjusted-earnings figures were unchanged.  We May Never Decode The Universe

Jonathan Leake -- London Times (UK)

Some of the greatest mysteries of the universe may never be resolved because they are beyond human comprehension, according to Lord Rees, president of the Royal Society. Rees suggests that the inherent intellectual limitations of humanity mean we may never resolve questions such as the existence of parallel universes, the cause of the big bang, or the nature of our own consciousness. "Just as a fish may be barely aware of the medium in which it lives and swims, so the microstructure of empty space could be far too complex for unaided human brains." Rees's thesis could prove highly provocative to other scientists, especially those who have devoted their careers to understanding such mysteries. ...

Mars Once Covered By A Vast Ocean, And Could Have Supported Life

David Derbyshire -- Daily Mail (UK)

Far from being a dusty red desert, our neighboring planet was once wet and rainy, raising the prospect that it was home to extra-terrestrial life. The ocean stretched across 36 per cent of the red planet around 3.5 billion years ago and contained 30 million cubic miles of water. The discovery is based on a detailed study of the dried-up river deltas and thousands of river valleys that scatter the Martian surface. Scientists from the University of Colorado at Boulder are unsure why the water vanished, but many suspect traces of the ocean remain in ice buried deep beneath the surface. ...

The breach, first reported by the website Gawker, occurred when a group calling itself Goatse Security hacked into AT&T's iPad subscriber data, obtaining a list of email addresses that also included celebrities, chief executives and politicians. Researchers Identify Certain Genes Tied To Autism

Mark Johnson -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The scientists compared the DNA of almost 1,000 people with autism with DNA from almost 1,300 people who do not have the disorder. The findings, described Wednesday in the journal Nature, show that the collection of developmental disabilities known as autism spectrum disorder involve dozens of genes and numerous combinations of rare mutations -- so many that patients may each have a unique form. So, while the new research could enable some families to receive more precise genetic counseling about risks, most will not get definitive answers. Scientists involved in the study said not enough is known yet to suggest prenatal testing for autism. ...

YEST Pity The Fool Who Sees 'The A-Team'

Lou Lumenick -- New York Post

It couldn't have been easy making a movie with less plot, character development and dramatic credibility than an episode of a campy '80s TV series. This feat is somehow managed by Joe Carnahan's overlong, overblown and utterly forgettable big-screen reboot of "The A-Team." The cartoonish, hugely popular series -- about a quartet of special services misfits who turn soldiers of fortune after being framed for a crime they didn't commit -- is primarily beloved as a vehicle for the inimitable Mr. T, who found the role of a lifetime as the muscular driver B.A. Baracus. Pity his poor successor, lightweight martial-arts champ (turned lightweight actor) Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who goes out of his way not to imitate his predecessor, though his knuckles are equipped with tattoos spelling out "Pity" and "Fool" -- from Mr. T's catchphrase from his other major role, in "Rocky III." ...

Hawaiian Elections Clerk Willing To Swear In Court Obama Not Born In Honolulu

Joe Kovacs -- World Net Daily

The former Honolulu elections clerk who says President Obama was "definitely" not born in Hawaii and has no birth certificate from any hospital in the Aloha State says he's willing to testify in court to those facts. "I was working there, and this is what it was. I'm not a lawyer, just a civil servant. I know what I know. I know what I was told by the hospitals and by my supervisors ... Joe Kovacs -- World Net Daily

A college professor who worked as a senior elections clerk for the City and County of Honolulu in 2008 is making the stunning claim Barack Obama was definitely not born in Hawaii as the White House maintains, and that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Obama does not even exist in the Aloha State. He says during the 2008 campaign when the issue of Obama's constitutional eligibility first arose, the elections office was inundated with requests to verify the birthplace of the U.S. senator from Illinois. "I had direct access to the Social Security database, the national crime computer, state driver's license information, international passport information, basically just about anything you can imagine to get someone's identity," Adams explained. "I could look up what bank your home mortgage was in. I was informed by my boss that we did not have a birth record [for Obama]." ...

Poll Shows Majority Wants Obama Records

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

"Our latest polling shows a majority of Americans -- 55 percent -- want Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation," pollster Fritz Wenzel of Wenzel Strategies said. "Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," he said. The poll said when asked about whether Obama's background documentation - the school records, birth records and others - should be released, the 55 percent who said yes included more than 82 percent of the GOP, 55 percent of independents and nearly 28 percent of Democrats. Further, another 17.1 percent of Americans said Obama should release some of his documentation, making it nearly three in four Americans who want the president to unlock the steel door on some or all of his background information. ...

Pakistan's I.S.I. Military Intelligence Accused Of Directly Funding Taleban

Jeremy Page -- London Times (UK)

Pakistan's military intelligence agency directly funds and trains the Afghan Taleban and is officially represented on its leadership council, according to a report by a British academic. The study, published by the London School of Economics, also alleges that Asif Ali Zardari, the Pakistani President, met Taleban leaders imprisoned in Pakistan and promised them early release and future support. The ISI helped to create the Taleban in the early 1990s, principally to prevent its arch-rival, India, from gaining a strategic foothold in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of Soviet troops. It claims to have severed all links with the Islamist movement but remains determined to prevent a pro-Indian government from taking power in Kabul after NATO troops leave. ...

YEST Burma's Efforts To Develop A Nuclear Weapon Assisted By North Korea

Francis Wade -- Democratic Voice of Burma (NO)

Revelations about Burma's nuclear ambitions and the depth of its relationship with North Korea have left interested parties wondering how the two countries managed to both circumvent tough sanctions, and hide this alliance from the world. Everything from excavating machinery for Burma's underground military bunker system to missile components has been passed over from North Korea, and the trade appears to be a healthy one: one of many purchase orders for the bunker project, which includes "Tunnel drill equipment" and 'Bombproof & sealing system", and is cited to a "Korean seller", was billed at $US21.5 million. And no-one will feel these concerns more than the US. March Report Podcast

News and Opinion Presented by Robert Jay March

44:29. Recorded
Monday, June 7, 2010
TOPICS DISCUSSED:

The Kramdenation of Barack Obama

In 2009, Barack Obama issued this Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government, which said, in part: "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust, and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government." That from the largest recipient of campaign funds from British Petrolium, who were repaid with lax oversight and regulatory exemptions that led to the Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill. In this podcast, Robert Jay March discusses the attempts to bribe Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff out of their respective primaries, contrasting this with the promises of openness and transparency made by Barack Obama while he was running, and in the early days of his occupancy of the White House. Paraphrasing Obama's response to the scandal: Hamena, hamena, hamena.

Sam Trammell planned to become a theoretical physicist, but was forced to lower his sights while studying at Brown University after realizing he was not a genius. He certainly never imagined himself an actor, let alone one who plays a shape-shifter on a hit HBO show about vampires. The series is "True Blood," created by Alan Ball based on the novels of Charlaine Harris, and Trammell is enjoying the unexpected development. YEST HBO's 'True Blood' Bears Its Teeth This Season

David Hinckley -- New York Daily News

"True Blood" sets itself apart from the "Twilight" school of gauzy romance, both with its graphic presentation and the intensity of its story line. The constant presence of vampires in the town of Bon Temps, La., in one sense does serve up the same forbidden thrill that draws teenage girls to, say, "The Vampire Diaries." But the exotic appeal of forbidden romance is constantly dampened here by the cold, brutal reality of the corruption that stains both human and vampire souls. That's assuming vampires have souls, which Sookie Stackhouse does. ...

YEST 'Torchwood' Season 4: Bigger And Better

Alan Stanley Blair -- Airlock Alpha

Fans waiting with bated breath to hear if BBC would move its science-fiction series for adults, "Torchwood," to the United States for an Americanized edition were slightly disappointed when it was revealed the series would not make the trans-Atlantic jump. Fortunately, there is some better news as BBC Cymru Wales have revealed that a fourth season of the series has been commissioned and will take the show's central characters further afield than ever before. Both John Barrowman and Eve Myles have signed on to return for a 10-episode season of the "Doctor Who" spinoff, and the season will be produced in conjunction with BBC Worldwide (responsible for BBC America) and also American premium cable channel, Starz Entertainment. And, thanks to the joint development of the series, Davies has high hopes of attracting talent from both sides of the pond. ...

Liar's Poker and Obama's 'Tell'

What did Obama know and when did he know it? We can expect to hear that question repeated over and over again, and this time without the news blackout imposed by all the networks, including Fox News, on the questions about Obama's birth certificate

Barack Obama had promised transparency in governance, but has proved himself to be just another practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics: cheesy, with a thick crust. His credibility had apparently hit bottom with his handling of the BP oil spill, coupled with the revelation that Obama was the largest recipient of campaign contributions from BP, but this latest revelation has pushed it into the sub-basement. When we first inaugurated the Obamalot section of MarchReport.com on January 27, 2009, with a logo containing the phrase "Transparency Since 2009 (Except When We're Opaque)," we got the expected protests that proclaimed the new messiah would be open about everything. Of course, we knew better, having already seen his duplicity regarding his legal qualifications to serve as President. It was not exactly a stretch to visualize how he would conduct himself in office, and he has lived down to our expectations.

On February 18, 2010, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) revealed on Comcast's Larry Kane Show that the White House had offered him a job to induce him to withdraw from the primary race against turncoat former Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who had switched parties in order to assure his re-election. It's interesting to note that the story, which is a public relations nightmare for Obama, was broken on a Comcast cable show, in that it is Comcast that is buying NBC (including MSNBC). Does this presage a change of direction for MSNBC, which to date has been little more than a public relations service for Obama?

It was rumored that Sestak, a retired naval Admiral, had been offered the position of Secretary of the Navy in violation of Title 18 USC §211, "Acceptance or solicitation to obtain appointive public office," Title 18 USC §595 "Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments," and Title 18 USC § 600 "Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity." Only the President (or, in this case, the guy who plays one on T.V.) could have authorized such an offer, since it is he who makes such appointments. This is an impeachable offense, being a "high crime or misdemeanor," which at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, meant a crime or misdemeanor that the offender would ordinarily have been spared the consequences of, by virtue of his high position.

On April 21, 2010, Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the top ranking Republican Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Sestak bribe attempt. To date, there has been no such appointment.

On the May 23 edition of Face The Nation, Sestak again confirmed the job offer, but would not give any details.

The range of human experiences is quite limited, and the same events keep repeating themselves over and over again, with a different cast of characters, much like a Hollywood re-make. The Sestak affair is eerily reminiscent of a Gus Van Sant re-make of the Watergate crisis. Much like Van Sant's color remake of Psycho, it's the same script replayed with lesser actors. Just as during the Nixon administration, and several times since, The White House has investigated itself, assuring us that nothing improper has happened; and, just as happened during the Nixon years, very few are buying it. Clearly, a special prosecutor or independent counsel needs to be appointed.

Modern-day reporters are inherently lazy, being closer to game-show hosts than the ink-stained wretches of yore, and like stories that present themselves already written; no wearing out shoe leather, or even using up cell-phone minutes nowadays. No press-pass sticking up out of their well-worn hat brim: that might muss their well-coifed hair. Regardless of how much they have covered up for Obama thus far, there is now blood in the water, and if it bleeds, it leads.

They started by quizzing his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who hemmed and hawed, being very careful to say nothing that could get him indicted as a co-conspirator. Then they asked Obama, who did his best impression of Ralph Kramden saying, "Hamena, Hamena, Hamena." Watch the video in the immediately preceding link, and take note of Obama's body language. Stiff as a board, saucer eyed, unblinkingly staring at Alice Kramden ... I mean, Major Garrett.

At least Richard Nixon had the guts to look right into the camera and lie. Just as Obama did when he fumbled the Inauguration oath...

... his "Tell" betrays him. Somewhere inside him, there is the awareness that he is doing wrong. Somewhere inside him, there is the desire to get caught, and that force is struggling to find it's way to the surface, to burst forth as if from John Hurt's chest.

The song "The Gambler," popularized by Kenny Rogers, contains these lyrics: "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces, / And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. / So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces."

You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold em. Hopefully, this time the press, which has horribly betrayed us thus far, will force him to show his hole card and surrender his chips. That said, you never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.

Obamalot

 Obama, The Progressive Marxist Avenger

Sandy Stringfellow -- Canada Free Press (CA)

When one looks carefully at the company with which Obama surrounds himself, and the Progressive Marxist agenda they share, it's entirely reasonable to be not only suspicious, but genuinely afraid of their collective capacity for inflicting a crippling and permanent level of damage to our glorious republic. This would have to include the possibility of outright destruction. In fact, many observers would argue that is precisely the goal. So Obama the Progressive marches on, in all of his ignominious glory, undeterred in his mission to unite the world in equality of tyranny, starvation, death, and destruction. ...

Obama Can't Match The Clintons' Cool Sleaziness

Chris Stirewalt -- Washington Examiner

When "not illegal" is the best thing that the White House can say about the behavior of the president's top aides, it's not a good sign. But the Obama administration finds itself holding the sleazy-but-legal line on deals Rahm Emanuel and his lieutenant, Jim Messina, tried to cut to keep Democrats Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff from taking on the national party's preferred candidates in Senate primaries. In both cases, the efforts failed. ...

Obama Vs. Israel

Abraham Foxman -- Jerusalem Post (IL)

The US has decided to support a resolution at the UN Nonproliferation conference which specifically calls on Israel to open up its nuclear facilities and join the NPT treaty. What does this decision say about the Obama administration's assumptions and directions regarding Israel? The administration is reportedly trying to reassure Israel that if any similar resolution comes to the Security Council, it will veto it. Still, another element in the historic relationship between the two countries has been eviscerated. What is becoming a pattern is that when the administration looks at America's broader interests, it too often chooses to see the Israeli position as undermining those interests. ...

America Is In Trouble, And Obama Can't Be Counted On To Save Her

Michael Goodwin -- FOX News

Barack Obama is the backward man. Teddy Roosevelt's advice to "speak softly and carry a big stick" was meant as a guide to successful foreign relations. Obama has completely muddled the message. He speaks softly to foreign adversaries and uses the big stick on American dissenters. Iran and Syria are wooed endlessly with carrots, apologies and promises of grand bargains. They respond with taunts and threats and pay no penalty. North Korea sinks a South Korean ship, and our secretary of state says it means no more business as usual. That's an admission it has been business as usual even after the loony kingdom tested nukes. The Mexican president comes to Washington and berates American citizens for expressing their views through the democratic process, and Obama shamefully nods in agreement. A State Department aide apologizes to China -- to China! -- about our treatment of illegal immigrants. ...

Where Professors Rule, Life Is Cruel

Stuart Schwartz -- American Thinker

Welcome to government by professor. Assorted faculty of Ivy League schools have come together to form an administration with the least real-world and most academic experience of any in modern times, the American Enterprise Institute notes. And so we have a government of scolds, lecturers, and bullies, arrogant academics cheered on by mainstream media when they take a "paddle" to average citizens and taxpayers. Witness the latest addition to the administration's professorial ranks: Dr. Donald Berwick, the Harvard Medical School professor picked to head the Medicare program. Of course, his knowledge of senior health care is academic, having never actually treated seniors. In Cambridge and Hyde Park (University of Chicago) and Berkeley, they think transforming thoughts about "health outcomes"; in the rest of America, it is called "death panels." ...

Barack Obama's Verbal Trickery

Kelly O'Connell -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Political movements, in particular, traffic in purposeful verbal trickery. In fact, some especially depend upon fallacies to drive their message since their essential convictions are defective or even diseased. Such groups as the Nazis, Fascists and Communists immediately spring to mind here. Barack Obama peppers his rhetoric with a veritable buffet of verbal trickery. But why? Speakers do not mislead unless they sense an inability to otherwise persuade their audience. This is a short list of some of the most persistent members of this false-argument tsunami. ...

An Inconvenient Lie

Pacific Islands Not Sinking From Global Warming

Washington Times

In a forthcoming issue of the journal Global and Planetary Change, researchers from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission in Fiji documented changes in 27 vulnerable, low-lying reef islands in the Central Pacific. Using aerial photographs taken as early as 1944, the areas were carefully mapped and compared with modern satellite images. It turns out that the islands did, in fact, change over time, but they are hardly sinking. Overall, 20 grew or remained stable. The island of Funamanu, for example, expanded from 7.4 acres to 9.5 acres in size -- a 28 percent growth. Only seven islands shrunk, with the biggest percentage change occurring on Tengasu, which dropped from a tiny 1.7 acres to 1.5 acres -- a diminishment of 9,670 square feet, the size of Mr. Gore's Tennessee mansion. ...

Prepare For A Bit Of Cooling, Predicts Geologist

Dennis Avery -- Canada Free Press (CA)

"Global warming is over-at least for a few decades," geologist Don Easterbrook, professor emeritus from Western Washington University told the Heartland Institute's Fourth International Conference on Climate Change on May 19. He warned, however, us not to rejoice. Colder winters kill twice as many people as hot weather while crop production suffers from shorter growing seasons and weather-disrupted harvests. Current data seem to support Easterbrook's prediction of an end to global warming, at least for the next three decades. Since 1998, atmospheric CO2 has continued to increase-but total solar activity, as measured by satellites, has declined sharply after trending strongly, but erratically, upward for 150 years. ...

The Motive Force Behind "Climate Change"

Joseph A Olson -- Climate Realists

The vast difference between the maximum heat and minimum ice age weather cycles on the surface of the earth cannot be accounted for by any solar or atmospheric variables. In fact, there is another force that renders even short-term climate forecasts inaccurate. That force is the enormous Geo-Nuclear, heat producing fission reactions of the heavy elements that form the earth's core. Mankind can neither predict nor control this force and is just as powerless to control the volcanoes, earthquakes and ice ages that are the results of variations in this geo-nuclear force. The 11,000 degree F temperature at the earth's core is not caused by gravity, by solar radiation or by atmospheric insulation. Legislative efforts to modify weather with miniscule changes of parts per million of carbon dioxide, a benign, life giving molecule, will soon be recognized as the most naïve misinterpretation of earth science since the world was flat. ...

"Environmentalist" Al Gore Living Even Larger

John Stossel -- FOX Business

Gore has spent "$8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa on 1.5 acres with a swimming pool, spa and fountains... The Italian-style house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms." This is in addition to the 10,000 square-foot mansion that he and Tipper own in Tennessee. A few years ago, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research reported that Gore's home burned more electricity in one month than the average Nashville home uses in a year. ...

James Lovelock, Who Developed The Gaia Theory, Says "Democracy Must Be Put On Hold" To Prevent Climate Change

Leo Hickman -- Guardian (UK)

Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change from radically impacting on our lives over the coming decades. This is the stark conclusion of James Lovelock, the globally respected environmental thinker and independent scientist who developed the Gaia theory. "I don't think we're yet evolved to the point where we're clever enough to handle a complex a situation as climate change," said Lovelock in his first in-depth interview since the theft of the UEA emails last November. "The inertia of humans is so huge that you can't really do anything meaningful." One of the main obstructions to meaningful action is "modern democracy", he added. "Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while." ...

Global-Warming Alarmism Dying A Slow Death

Alex Newman -- New American Magazine

The rapid loss of public credibility over all the errors has also accompanied numerous calls by prominent voices for official inquiries and even criminal investigations. Several universities involved have already launched reviews. And even previous IPCC chief Professor Robert Watson, for example, is calling for a probe to investigate "warming bias" by the UN panel. "The mistakes all appear to have gone in the direction of making it seem like climate change is more serious by overstating the impact. That is worrying," he told the U.K. Times Online. "The IPCC needs to look at this trend in the errors and ask why it happened." The UN will indeed launch an "independent" inquiry, but critics generally expect a coverup. U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) went further, proposing criminal investigations to determine if alarmists violated any laws. A Senate report produced for Inhofe's Environment and Public Works Committee concluded that, among other problems, "scientists involved in the CRU controversy violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, may have violated federal laws." Similarly, British authorities were investigating possible criminal activity by Climategate scientists who refused to provide documents and data under lawful Freedom of Information requests. The scientists may reportedly escape prosecution under the FOI law because of a six-month statute of limitations. ...

At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
