A great deal has been written about Pakistani metallurgist A.Q. Khan and his collaborators, but I have never found an account as detailed as the one in "Peddling Peril: How the Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies," by the nuclear armaments expert David Albright. Albright holds master's degrees in physics and mathematics and has taught physics. For five years-between 1992 and 1997-he was part of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Action Team and in that capacity he spent time as a weapons inspector in Iraq. In 1993, he founded the Institute for Science and International Security, a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., of which he is president. In short, Albright is a perfect person to write a book like this.

These days, oil and gas industry insider, Matt Simmons has been weighing in on BP and the worst oil spill in U.S. history, following the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. As BP struggles to permanently stop the gush of oil, Simmons has been warning that the scale of the spill is much bigger and that there's a larger leak several miles away. Simmons also thinks that perhaps the only way to seal the gush of oil is by doing what the Soviet Union did decades ago -- setting off a bomb deep underground so that the fiery blast will melt the surrounding rock and shut off the spill. ...

"Now that the so-called 'top-hat' containment system has begun to capture and recover some of the oil escaping from the wellhead, it is imperative that you put equipment, systems and processes in place to ensure that the remaining oil and gas flowing can be recovered," the Coast Guard's on-scene commander, Adm. James A. Watson, said in a letter to the oil company. An improvised cap and pipe connected to the ruptured wellhead are drawing a portion of the leaked oil, about 15,000 barrels a day, up to a containment ship. That number is expected to increase to 28,000 barrels as early as next week, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, who is overseeing the cleanup, told reporters Wednesday. ...

Almonte worked at the store for more than a year, but quit about two weeks ago, saying life's "too expensive" in the Garden State, the supervisor said. "We were planning to lay him off, but he beat us to it," said the boss. ...

During an emotional Senate hearing Tuesday, the brother of a worker killed on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig said BP has not once reached out to his family in the month and a half since the April 20 explosion. "Nobody from BP has contacted anyone from our family to extend their sympathies," said Chris Jones, a young attorney from Baton Rouge whose brother, Gordon, was killed on the rig. "The overwhelming response I have gotten from the parties responsible for Gordon's death, besides that no one wants to take responsibility for it, is that they are immunized by the current law." Jones said BP officials attended a memorial event for the families of the killed rig workers, but, as soon as the event ended, they snuck out the back and were whisked away in SUVs. Jones added, "Our current laws do not protect those who need it most." ...

The scientists compared the DNA of almost 1,000 people with autism with DNA from almost 1,300 people who do not have the disorder. The findings, described Wednesday in the journal Nature, show that the collection of developmental disabilities known as autism spectrum disorder involve dozens of genes and numerous combinations of rare mutations -- so many that patients may each have a unique form. So, while the new research could enable some families to receive more precise genetic counseling about risks, most will not get definitive answers. A college professor who worked as a senior elections clerk for the City and County of Honolulu in 2008 is making the stunning claim Barack Obama was definitely not born in Hawaii as the White House maintains, and that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Obama does not even exist in the Aloha State. He says during the 2008 campaign when the issue of Obama's constitutional eligibility first arose, the elections office was inundated with requests to verify the birthplace of the U.S. senator from Illinois. Poll Shows Majority Wants Obama Records

"Our latest polling shows a majority of Americans -- 55 percent -- want Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation," pollster Fritz Wenzel of Wenzel Strategies said. "Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," he said. The poll said when asked about whether Obama's background documentation - the school records, birth records and others - should be released, the 55 percent who said yes included more than 82 percent of the GOP, 55 percent of independents and nearly 28 percent of Democrats. Further, another 17.1 percent of Americans said Obama should release some of his documentation, making it nearly three in four Americans who want the president to unlock the steel door on some or all of his background information. ...

 Nine former employees of Vangent Inc. were charged with accessing Barack Obama's student loan records illegally. They have pleaded not guilty in federal court. Barack Obama's very first act as "President" made it illegal to release any of his records. "Executive Order 13489-Presidential Records," signed by Barack Obama on January 21, 2009, begins as follows: "By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America ..." If there is nothing to hide, why hide it? Yet, the very first thing he did as alleged-President was sign an Executive Order that locks all of his records, including his personal ones, away from public view.  Philip Berg, one of the Attorneys seeking to force the removal of Barack Obama from the White House based on his ineligibility to serve according to Article II Section 1 of The Constitution, has organized a march, which will take place on May 29 at President's Park, just south of the White House. Berg is requesting that all participants of the march bring a copy of their birth certificate. Two Requests For Obama's Selective Service Registration Through The Freedom Of Information Act Yield Differing Numbers

When two people requested Obama's Selective Service registration through the Freedom of Information Act, each received a computer printout with different information. Each Selective Service record is assigned a DLN, or Document Locator Number. While both Coffman's and Allen's registration forms contained the ten-digit Document Locator Number (DLN) 0897080632 in the upper right-hand corner, the computer printouts differed. Coffman's computer printout was entitled "RIMS History Inquiry Screen" and showed a DLN of 8089 708 0632. Allen's computer printout was titled "Registrant File Inquiry Report" and showed a DLN of 0897 080 6320. Two DLNs could indicate two sets of records.  Private investigator Bo Dietl says FBI agents recorded a meeting last month in Aruba where Joran Van der Sloot requested money from a lawyer for the family of Natalee Holloway in exchange for information about her 2005 disappearance. ...

The FBI has denied published reports, such as the one above, that it had paid thousands of dollars in a sting operation to Joran van der Sloot, a suspect in Natalee Holloway's disappearance, and put off arresting him to help build a murder case. U.S. officials confirmed that they had been looking into "allegations of criminal conduct" against van der Sloot since April, but they said any money given to the Dutchman came from private funds. They added that the investigation was "not sufficiently developed to bring charges prior to the time van der Sloot left Aruba." ...

The details of his alleged confession to the murder of a 21-year-old woman inside a hotel room in Peru included sipping an espresso and chowing down on sponge cake while the bloodied body of Stephany Flores lay on the floor just a few feet away, according to a chilling new report. Van der Sloot had even debated whether to take the body with him and dump it in the ocean. "I was going to use one of the traveling bags to take the body out of the hotel, but I didn't do it because I was afraid that I would be detained leaving the hotel with my baggage and not paying the bill," Van der Sloot told police, according to the Peruvian daily newspaper La Republica. "I didn't because I was too afraid to be confronted." ...

The groom-at whose house in the Nagahan village the explosion occurred-was a member of the local anti-Taliban militia that U.S. Special Forces helped establish in the area in recent months, according to the local tribal chief. While the groom, who was badly injured, survived. The dead included several other members of the militia and Afghan police officers, officials said. "I was in the hospital until late last night and the doctors had retrieved some metal parts from the bodies of victims, small metal balls usually used in suicide vests," said the governor of Kandahar province, Tooryalai Wesa, who hails from the same Arghandab district where Nagahan is located. The fatalities included 14 children, he added. Hajji Pehalawan, a tribal leader in Nagahan, put the overall death toll at 80. ...

The new resolution imposes new financial restrictions on Iran, expands an existing arms embargo, and authorizes greater stop and search of Iranian cargo ships. Targeted sanctions on specific individuals and entities were expanded. The resolution also includes measures directed against Iran's Revolutionary Guard. While the United States, Great Britain and France were its strongest sponsors, China and Russia also expressed their verbal support along with their votes, although the Russian ambassador added a major caveat in his response to a reporter's question about Russia's prospective sale of a sophisticated anti-aircraft system to Iran. Lebanon's decision to abstain was a pleasant surprise, considering the influence of Iran-backed Hezbollah in the Lebanese government. ...

Iran's ambassador to the U.N. nuclear agency, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, insisted Iran will not stop enriching uranium. Twelve of the Security Council's 15 members voted Wednesday in favor of the resolution, while Brazil and Turkey voted "no" and Lebanon abstained. ...

Russia will put an arms deal it had been working on with Iran on hold in response to the new round of UN sanctions that were placed on Iran Wednesday, reported Russian news agency Interfax. The deal, which had the Russians selling Iran the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, was put on hold despite the fact that Russian officials previously had said that sanctions would not prevent them from completing the deal. ...

An influential legislator said on Thursday that the country's parliament will "revisit" relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) following Wednesday's vote at the Security Council. "On Sunday, [the] Iranian parliament will discuss a bill to revise ties with the IAEA," Alaeddin Borujerdi told the country's Fars news agency. He did not specify what options were to be discussed. But the move could result in restricting IAEA weapons' inspectors access to Iran's nuclear facilities. ...

That's the message from Natalee Holloway's father Tuesday. 21-year-old Stephany Flores was killed exactly five years to the day that Holloway disappeared as an 18-year-old Alabama high school student on vacation in Aruba. Van der sloot, 22, was twice arrested and released by Aruban authorities, who said they lacked evidence to keep him locked up. Last week, Van der Sloot was charged in the U.S. with trying to extort $250,000 from the Holloway family in exchange for details about her disappearance. ...

Dutchman Joran van der Sloot's confession to murder has Peru and the World talking about 'psychopathic' foreigners visiting Peru and other countries to harm women. Joran van der Sloot, confessed to the murder of 21-year old Stephany Flores Ramirez, after van der Sloot said he found her going through his laptop, looking at files from the Natalee Holloway case. But before we look at the charge of "psychopathic' foreigners visiting Peru," the unanswered question is what did Stephany Flores Ramirez see in those files that Joran van der Sloot didn't want her to see? Joran van der Sloot said he did not kill Alabama native Natalee Holloway but his confession to the murder of Ramirez brings new light into a long dormant case. ...

Joran Van der Sloot confessed last night to the murder of Stephany Flores in Peru five years to the day after the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Joran has confessed to killing Natalee at least three times, was arrested twice (and released) and most recently was extorting the Holloway family for money saying he knew the location of Natalie's body. He clearly loved the attention and notoriety that came along with being a suspected murderer. Confessing to a crime equals instant infamy, doesn't matter if you did it or not. Consider Jon Mark Karr who confessed to killing JonBenet Ramsey but was cleared several weeks later after DNA proved he couldn't have been the murderer. Perhaps that spoof of American TV, the movie "To Die For" wasn't such a spoof after all with the quote, "You're not anybody in America unless you're on TV. ...

The recent confession by Joran Van der Sloot may be far from the truth. It is far too early to know the complete facts, but news reports are indicating that Stephany Flores was openly lesbian, though still struggling with her sexuality. This may add a new layer into the mix regarding what may have happened while in Van der Sloot's hotel room. According to Flores' ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Jimenez, Flores was struggling to balance her sexual orientation against her parent's intense disapproval. Peru's Catholic majority largely disapproves of homosexuality. ...

 Suspected militants attacked trucks carrying military vehicles for foreign forces in Afghanistan early Wednesday close to the Pakistani capital, killing six people and wounding seven others, police and witnesses said. ...

What did Obama know and when did he know it? We can expect to hear that question repeated over and over again, and this time without the news blackout imposed by all the networks, including Fox News, on the questions about Obama's birth certificate Barack Obama had promised transparency in governance, but has proved himself to be just another practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics: cheesy, with a thick crust. His credibility had apparently hit bottom with his handling of the BP oil spill, coupled with the revelation that Obama was the largest recipient of campaign contributions from BP, but this latest revelation has pushed it into the sub-basement. When we first inaugurated the Obamalot section of MarchReport.com on January 27, 2009, with a logo containing the phrase "Transparency Since 2009 (Except When We're Opaque)," we got the expected protests that proclaimed the new messiah would be open about everything. Of course, we knew better, having already seen his duplicity regarding his legal qualifications to serve as President. It was not exactly a stretch to visualize how he would conduct himself in office, and he has lived down to our expectations. On February 18, 2010, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) revealed on Comcast's Larry Kane Show that the White House had offered him a job to induce him to withdraw from the primary race against turncoat former Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who had switched parties in order to assure his re-election. It's interesting to note that the story, which is a public relations nightmare for Obama, was broken on a Comcast cable show, in that it is Comcast that is buying NBC (including MSNBC). Does this presage a change of direction for MSNBC, which to date has been little more than a public relations service for Obama? It was rumored that Sestak, a retired naval Admiral, had been offered the position of Secretary of the Navy in violation of Title 18 USC §211, "Acceptance or solicitation to obtain appointive public office," Title 18 USC §595 "Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments," and Title 18 USC § 600 "Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity." Only the President (or, in this case, the guy who plays one on T.V.) could have authorized such an offer, since it is he who makes such appointments. This is an impeachable offense, being a "high crime or misdemeanor," which at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, meant a crime or misdemeanor that the offender would ordinarily have been spared the consequences of, by virtue of his high position. On April 21, 2010, Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the top ranking Republican Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Sestak bribe attempt. To date, there has been no such appointment. On the May 23 edition of Face The Nation, Sestak again confirmed the job offer, but would not give any details. The range of human experiences is quite limited, and the same events keep repeating themselves over and over again, with a different cast of characters, much like a Hollywood re-make. The Sestak affair is eerily reminiscent of a Gus Van Sant re-make of the Watergate crisis. Much like Van Sant's color remake of Psycho, it's the same script replayed with lesser actors. Just as during the Nixon administration, and several times since, The White House has investigated itself, assuring us that nothing improper has happened; and, just as happened during the Nixon years, very few are buying it. Clearly, a special prosecutor or independent counsel needs to be appointed. Modern-day reporters are inherently lazy, being closer to game-show hosts than the ink-stained wretches of yore, and like stories that present themselves already written; no wearing out shoe leather, or even using up cell-phone minutes nowadays. No press-pass sticking up out of their well-worn hat brim: that might muss their well-coifed hair. Regardless of how much they have covered up for Obama thus far, there is now blood in the water, and if it bleeds, it leads. They started by quizzing his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who hemmed and hawed, being very careful to say nothing that could get him indicted as a co-conspirator. Then they asked Obama, who did his best impression of Ralph Kramden saying, "Hamena, Hamena, Hamena." Watch the video in the immediately preceding link, and take note of Obama's body language. Stiff as a board, saucer eyed, unblinkingly staring at Alice Kramden ... I mean, Major Garrett. At least Richard Nixon had the guts to look right into the camera and lie. Just as Obama did when he fumbled the Inauguration oath... ... his "Tell" betrays him. Somewhere inside him, there is the awareness that he is doing wrong. Somewhere inside him, there is the desire to get caught, and that force is struggling to find it's way to the surface, to burst forth as if from John Hurt's chest. The song "The Gambler," popularized by Kenny Rogers, contains these lyrics: "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces, / And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. / So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces." You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold em. Hopefully, this time the press, which has horribly betrayed us thus far, will force him to show his hole card and surrender his chips. Current data seem to support Easterbrook's prediction of an end to global warming, at least for the next three decades. Since 1998, atmospheric CO2 has continued to increase-but total solar activity, as measured by satellites, has declined sharply after trending strongly, but erratically, upward for 150 years. ...

In fact, there is another force that renders even short-term climate forecasts inaccurate. James Lovelock, Who Developed The Gaia Theory, Says "Democracy Must Be Put On Hold" To Prevent Climate Change

This is the stark conclusion of James Lovelock, the globally respected environmental thinker and independent scientist who developed the Gaia theory. "I don't think we're yet evolved to the point where we're clever enough to handle a complex a situation as climate change," said Lovelock in his first in-depth interview since the theft of the UEA emails last November. "The inertia of humans is so huge that you can't really do anything meaningful." One of the main obstructions to meaningful action is "modern democracy", he added. "Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while." ...

Global-Warming Alarmism Dying A Slow Death

The rapid loss of public credibility over all the errors has also accompanied numerous calls by prominent voices for official inquiries and even criminal investigations. Several universities involved have already launched reviews. And even previous IPCC chief Professor Robert Watson, for example, is calling for a probe to investigate "warming bias" by the UN panel. "The mistakes all appear to have gone in the direction of making it seem like climate change is more serious by overstating the impact. That is worrying," he told the U.K. Times Online. "The IPCC needs to look at this trend in the errors and ask why it happened." The UN will indeed launch an "independent" inquiry, but critics generally expect a coverup. U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) went further, proposing criminal investigations to determine if alarmists violated any laws. A Senate report produced for Inhofe's Environment and Public Works Committee concluded that, among other problems, "scientists involved in the CRU controversy violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, may have violated federal laws." Similarly, British authorities were investigating possible criminal activity by Climategate scientists who refused to provide documents and data under lawful Freedom of Information requests. The scientists may reportedly escape prosecution under the FOI law because of a six-month statute of limitations. ...

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
