Einstein's Brain Unlocks Some Mysteries Of The Mind

Jon Hamilton -- National Public Radio

Audio AND TEXT. In the 55 years since Albert Einstein's death, many scientists have tried to figure out what made him so smart. But no one tried harder than a pathologist named Thomas Harvey, who lost his job and his reputation in a quest to unlock the secrets of Einstein's genius. Harvey never found the answer. But through an unlikely sequence of events, his search helped transform our understanding of how the brain works. How that happened is a bizarre story that involves a dead genius, a stolen brain, a rogue scientist and a crazy idea that turned out not to be so crazy. Michael Paterniti describes it all in his book, Driving Mr. Albert: A Trip Across America with Einstein's Brain.

The Struggle For Tibet

Reviewed by J. Michael Cole -- Taipei Times (TW)

After nearly half a century of Chine occupation of Tibet, riots on an unprecedented scale occurred not only in the Tibetan Administrative Region (TAR), but also in parts of China with substantial Tibetan populations. Prior to what has come to be known as the March Incident of 2008, Tibetan protests had largely been limited to areas within TAR proper. How can we explain the spontaneous -- and violent -- uprising that shocked the world months before the Beijing Olympics and invited an ironfisted crackdown by the Chinese authorities? The answer is the culminating The Struggle for Tibet, a collection of articles written by Tibetan academic Tsering Shakya and the Chinese intellectual Wang Lixiong. In what often reads like a dialogue between the two authors, the book explores the question of Tibetan identity, religion, assimilation and resistance from the perspective of Tibetans.

Peddling Peril: How The Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies

Reviewed by Jeremy Bernstein -- New York Review of Books

A great deal has been written about Pakistani metallurgist A.Q. Khan and his collaborators, but I have never found an account as detailed as the one in "Peddling Peril: How the Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America's Enemies," by the nuclear armaments expert David Albright. Albright holds master's degrees in physics and mathematics and has taught physics. For five years-between 1992 and 1997-he was part of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Action Team and in that capacity he spent time as a weapons inspector in Iraq. In 1993, he founded the Institute for Science and International Security, a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., of which he is president. In short, Albright is a perfect person to write a book like this.

Book Review: 'Hellhound On His Trail' By Hampton Sides

Art Winslow -- Los Angeles Times

A bestselling author reconstructs an assassin's life and the events leading up to the killing of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. James Earl Ray, the dodgy career criminal and escaped convict who murdered King and helped turn 1968 into the sad, tumultuous year that it was, is the man with the gun in Hampton Sides' Hellhound on His Trail: The Stalking of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the International Hunt for His Assassin. And yet there are hellhounds aplenty in Sides' book, notable among them George Wallace and J. Edgar Hoover.

New Biography Reveals Oprah's 'Hidden' Life

Jeremy Olshan -- New York Post

Oprah Winfrey -- who built a billion-dollar empire persuading everyone from celebs to average Joes to reveal the truth about themselves -- is a big phony when it comes to her own past, an explosive new book charges. Winfrey's relationship with longtime "love" Stedman Graham, her reputed dirt-poor upbringing in rural Mississippi, her rumored lesbian crushes on women such as Diane Sawyer -- all are stories she has manipulated for decades in the name of sensational ratings, according to writer Kitty Kelley's latest unauthorized biography "Oprah: A Biography." "Where Oprah got that nonsense about growing up in filth and roaches I have no idea," said a relative, Katherine Carr Esters. "I've confronted her and asked, 'Why do you tell such lies?' Oprah told me, 'That's what people want to hear. The truth is boring.'

Richard A. Clarke -- Network World

"The entire phenomenon is shrouded in such government secrecy that it makes the Cold War look like a time of openness and transparency. The biggest secret in the world about cyber war may be that at the very same time the U.S. prepares for offensive cyber war, it is continuing policies that make it impossible to defend the nation effectively from cyber attack." click for an excerpt from Cyber War: The Next Threat to National Security and What to Do About It, a new book by ex-Presidential adviser Richard Clarke that explores the growing cyberwar threat and raises ideas about how to deal with it.

Can Science Explain Heaven?

Lisa Miller -- Newsweek

There are those who believe that science will eventually explain everything -- including our enduring belief in heaven. The thesis here is very simple: heaven is not a real place, or even a process or a supernatural event. It's something that happens in your brain as you die. The author of this article first encountered this idea when she was researching her new book, Heaven: Our Enduring Fascination with the Afterlife.

But in his new book, My Life Outside the Ring, the 56-year-old reveals how his world was turned upside down. Wife Linda, 50, divorced him after 23 years of marriage.  The Gulf Coast Oil Spill's Dr. Doom

Nin-Hai Tseng -- Fortune

These days, oil and gas industry insider, Matt Simmons has been weighing in on BP and the worst oil spill in U.S. history, following the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. As BP struggles to permanently stop the gush of oil, Simmons has been warning that the scale of the spill is much bigger and that there's a larger leak several miles away. Simmons also thinks that perhaps the only way to seal the gush of oil is by doing what the Soviet Union did decades ago -- setting off a bomb deep underground so that the fiery blast will melt the surrounding rock and shut off the spill. ...

B.P. Told To Add Containment Equipment

Buffalo News

"Now that the so-called 'top-hat' containment system has begun to capture and recover some of the oil escaping from the wellhead, it is imperative that you put equipment, systems and processes in place to ensure that the remaining oil and gas flowing can be recovered," the Coast Guard's on-scene commander, Adm. James A. Watson, said in a letter to the oil company. An improvised cap and pipe connected to the ruptured wellhead are drawing a portion of the leaked oil, about 15,000 barrels a day, up to a containment ship. That number is expected to increase to 28,000 barrels as early as next week, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, who is overseeing the cleanup, told reporters Wednesday. ...

He wasn't the brains of the operation. Carlos Almonte, one of the terror suspects busted at Kennedy Airport, stunned co-workers at a New Jersey computer shop with his stupidity. "I'm telling you, this kid is not smart," said a supervisor. "The simplest stuff we told him to do, he couldn't -- like organize this with that." YEST Rig Survivors: B.P. Ordered Shortcut On Day Of Blast

Scott Bronstein and Wayne Drash -- CNN

Video AND TEXT. The survivors' account paints perhaps the most detailed picture yet of what happened on the deepwater rig -- and the possible causes of the April 20 explosion. The BP official wanted workers to replace heavy mud, used to keep the well's pressure down, with lighter seawater to help speed a process that was costing an estimated $750,000 a day and was already running five weeks late, rig survivors said. BP won the argument, said Doug Brown, the rig's chief mechanic. "He basically said, 'Well, this is how it's gonna be.'" "That's what the big argument was about," added Daniel Barron III. Shortly after the exchange, chief driller Dewey Revette expressed concern and opposition too, the workers said, and on the drilling floor, they chatted among themselves. "I don't ever remember doing this," they said, according to Barron. "I think that's why Dewey was so reluctant to try to do it," Barron said, "because he didn't feel it was the right way to have things done." Revette was among the 11 workers killed when the rig exploded that night. ...

YEST Brother Of Oil Rig Worker Killed In Explosion Calls For Change In Law

Avery Fellow -- Courthouse News Service

During an emotional Senate hearing Tuesday, the brother of a worker killed on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig said BP has not once reached out to his family in the month and a half since the April 20 explosion. "Nobody from BP has contacted anyone from our family to extend their sympathies," said Chris Jones, a young attorney from Baton Rouge whose brother, Gordon, was killed on the rig. "The overwhelming response I have gotten from the parties responsible for Gordon's death, besides that no one wants to take responsibility for it, is that they are immunized by the current law." Jones said BP officials attended a memorial event for the families of the killed rig workers, but, as soon as the event ended, they snuck out the back and were whisked away in SUVs. Jones added, "Our current laws do not protect those who need it most." ...

Janon Fisher -- New York Post

Geriatric gangster John "Sonny" Franzese, 93, who is on trial in Brooklyn federal court on charges of shaking down two strip joints, is too feeble to intimidate anyone -- even his wife slaps him around, his lawyer said yesterday. Franzese is something of a legend in the underworld. He hung out at the Copacabana nightclub in its heyday, where he hobnobbed with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. But all of that is over, his lawyer said. And they didn't meet up at the pork store or social club, like in the "Sopranos," he said. "They're at a yogurt shop. That's where they're meeting, at a yogurt shop." ...

Liberal Group Tries To Sway Scott Brown Vote

Jay Fitzgerald -- Boston Herald

A union-backed liberal group is once again targeting U.S. Sen. Scott Brown with a media blitz intended to put pressure on him before a key vote. Americans United for Change, which attacked Brown in TV ads in April before a financial-reform showdown, is launching today a barrage of television ads urging Brown to reject a Senate amendment that critics say would cripple the government's attempt to regulate greenhouse gases. With a vote expected today, the provision pushed by U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) would reject the Environmental Protection Agency's finding last year that greenhouse gases are a threat to public health and therefore need to be regulated. ...

Greene posted bond but hasn't yet entered a plea or been indicted. South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler said in a statement that she had asked Alvin Greene to withdraw from the race. YEST Nancy Pelosi, The Liberal House Speaker, Heckled By Liberals

Dana Milbank -- Washington Post

Video AND TEXT. For 17 months, anger at Barack Obama and congressional Democrats has been pooling on the left. On Tuesday morning, it spilled onto the floor of an Omni Shoreham ballroom and splashed all over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The celebrated San Francisco liberal took the stage to greet what should have been a friendly audience: the annual gathering of progressive activists organized by the Campaign for America's Future. Instead, Pelosi was eaten by her own. Bodyguards rushed forward and formed a six-person ring around Pelosi and the lectern. Leaders of the conference tried to take the speaker backstage until the disturbance could be quelled, but she brushed them off: "I'm not leaving. I'm not leaving," she said. "You have made your point. I'm going to give my speech over your voices." ...

CBS News

Lincoln had 51 percent of the vote with ballots counted from nearly two-thirds of the state's precincts, to 49 percent for Lt. Gov. Bill Halter. Labor played a key role in the Arkansas race, pouring money into Halter's campaign in large part to send the message that it is willing and able to punish Democrats for apparent betrayals. Lincoln garnered labor's ire by reversing herself and opposing so-called "card check" legislation that would have made it easier to form unions, prompting criticism that she is too close to business interests. ...

YEST Easily Defeats Poizner

Carla Marinucci And Wyatt Buchanan -- San Francisco Chronicle

Meg Whitman, who spent a record-smashing $71 million of her own money to sell herself as a political outsider from the corporate world who could turn California around, decisively defeated Steve Poizner on Tuesday to become the first woman in state history to win the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Poizner, the state insurance commissioner, spent $24 million of his own money to try to win the nomination, only to be clobbered in a campaign that descended into a slugfest between the two Republicans. Statewide, turnout was believed to be about a third of all registered voters, which would rival all-time lows. With Whitman and Senate nominee Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Republicans head into the general election with two wealthy self-funded female candidates from the business world. They give the party hope it can end the Democrats' domination of the nation's most populous state -- and in the process, complicate Barack Obama's re-election strategy in 20 ...

Mark Brown -- Chicago Sun-Times

Lawyer Sam Adam Jr. put on a show Tuesday in defense of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich the likes of which has not often been seen in the staid Dirksen Federal Building, certainly not in any of the big government corruption trials here in the past few decades. Alternately shouting, whispering, gesturing and thumping the courtroom furniture, Adam theatrically made the case that the state's former chief executive was an insecure but honest politician who unwittingly got himself in this mess by trusting the wrong people. ...

Bernanke Says Fed Prepared To Counter Effects Of Europe Crisis

Scott Lanman and Steve Matthews -- Bloomberg News

U.S. growth is "not as fast as we would like," Bernanke told the House Budget Committee in testimony yesterday, hours before the Fed's Beige Book regional business survey said the economy expanded in all 12 Federal Reserve districts for the first time in more than two years, with a "modest" pace in many regions. "Bernanke has been cautious and remains so," said James O'Sullivan, global chief economist at MF Global Ltd. in New York. "Both Bernanke and the Beige Book suggest the economy is in recovery, but at a modest pace. Neither suggest any loss in momentum as a result of turmoil in the markets. They are firmly on hold." ...

The Bank's monetary policy committee (MPC) maintained rates at an historic low for the seventh consecutive month and left unchanged its £200bn quantitative easing programme to boost the money supply. Eurozone rates were also expected to stick at 1%, though European Central Bank boss Jean-Claude Trichet was expected to come under close questioning at a press conference later in the day. S&P 500 futures fell 2.9 points to 1056.30 and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 4.5 points to 1787.00. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 22 points. U.S. stocks closed mostly higher Tuesday, helped by Bernanke's cautious endorsement of the economic recovery. The bill had already been passed by the upper house, but was comfortably voted down in a 104-to-76 decision, according to Swiss media reports. Without parliamentary approval a court has ruled that UBS can't pass on the information on nearly 4,500 clients, who may have been involved in tax evasion. ...

Supercomputers Around The World Enlisted To Help Manage Large Hadron Collider Information

Columbus Dispatch

"It's very exciting, fun to be right on the edge of something," said Ohio State University physicist Thomas Humanic. "We are in unknown territory. No one has ever been there before." Unfamiliar with the collider? The $8 billion project has a "simple" task: To blast down to the most fundamental forms of matter and find the set of rules that everything in the universe -- down to subatomic particles -- lives by. Humanic and OSU colleague Michael Lisa hope data from the forthcoming lead atom collisions will shed new light on the structure of mass, the "quark-gluon plasma," which physicists theorize existed only briefly in the hot, dense environment created mere microseconds after the Big Bang. The universe at that moment was a soup of sub-atomic particles including quarks and gluons that bonded to form atoms. ...

Life On Saturn's Moon, Titan?

Space Daily

Two new papers based on data from NASA's Cassini spacecraft scrutinize the complex chemical activity on the surface of Saturn's moon Titan. While non-biological chemistry offers one possible explanation, some scientists believe these chemical signatures bolster the argument for a primitive, exotic form of life or precursor to life on Titan's surface. According to one theory put forth by astrobiologists, the signatures fulfill two important conditions necessary for a hypothesized "methane-based life." ...

Apple's Worst Security Breach: 114,000 iPad Owners Exposed

Gawker

Apple has suffered another embarrassment. A security breach has exposed iPad owners including dozens of CEOs, military officials, and top politicians. They-and every other buyer of the cellular-enabled tablet-could be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking. The breach, which comes just weeks after an Apple employee lost an iPhone prototype in a bar, exposed the most exclusive email list on the planet, a collection of early-adopter iPad 3G subscribers that includes thousands of A-listers in finance, politics and media, from New York Times Co. CEO Janet Robinson to Diane Sawyer of ABC News to film mogul Harvey Weinstein to Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It even appears that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's information was compromised. ...

YEST 10 Things Microsoft Must Do To Succeed On The Web

Don Reisinger -- eWEEK

Microsoft isn't the kind of company that most folks would associate with the Internet. The software giant has been offering operating systems, browsers and office-productivity suites for years. These products are the foundation stones of its operation and the main reason why it generates billions of dollars in revenue each quarter. For its part, Microsoft has stayed true to its software roots. The company has time and again said that it believes Windows and Office are central to its operation, and that won't be changing anytime soon. To some extent, Microsoft is right to follow that strategy. The software market is still strong for the company. But soon enough, that will change. ...

Researchers Identify Certain Genes Tied To Autism

Mark Johnson -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The scientists compared the DNA of almost 1,000 people with autism with DNA from almost 1,300 people who do not have the disorder. The findings, described Wednesday in the journal Nature, show that the collection of developmental disabilities known as autism spectrum disorder involve dozens of genes and numerous combinations of rare mutations -- so many that patients may each have a unique form. So, while the new research could enable some families to receive more precise genetic counseling about risks, most will not get definitive answers. Scientists involved in the study said not enough is known yet to suggest prenatal testing for autism. ...

Lady Gaga Wears Odd Outfit To Sister's Graduation To Snub Her Former School

Emily Smith -- New York Post

Lady Gaga put on a very special show this week for the high school that made her life miserable -- clearly delivering the message, I'm a star, the rest of you aren't and you can all go to hell. Her command performance at her little sister's graduation at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, on East 91st Street at Fifth Avenue Tuesday, was her way of rubbing the school's face in the mud, several of her pals said. She dressed in a beekeeper's hat and see-through pants and carried a Chinese-takeout-shaped Chanel bag as she strolled the grounds in sky-high platforms that let her stand tall without heels. ...

Certifi-Gate! America In Captivity

"There Is No Birth Certificate," Says Hawaii Elections Clerk

Joe Kovacs -- World Net Daily

A college professor who worked as a senior elections clerk for the City and County of Honolulu in 2008 is making the stunning claim Barack Obama was definitely not born in Hawaii as the White House maintains, and that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Obama does not even exist in the Aloha State. He says during the 2008 campaign when the issue of Obama's constitutional eligibility first arose, the elections office was inundated with requests to verify the birthplace of the U.S. senator from Illinois. "I had direct access to the Social Security database, the national crime computer, state driver's license information, international passport information, basically just about anything you can imagine to get someone's identity," Adams explained. "I could look up what bank your home mortgage was in. I was informed by my boss that we did not have a birth record [for Obama]." ...

Poll Shows Majority Wants Obama Records

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

"Our latest polling shows a majority of Americans -- 55 percent -- want Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation," pollster Fritz Wenzel of Wenzel Strategies said. "Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," he said. The poll said when asked about whether Obama's background documentation - the school records, birth records and others - should be released, the 55 percent who said yes included more than 82 percent of the GOP, 55 percent of independents and nearly 28 percent of Democrats. Further, another 17.1 percent of Americans said Obama should release some of his documentation, making it nearly three in four Americans who want the president to unlock the steel door on some or all of his background information. ...

Barack Obama's very first act as "President" made it illegal to release any of his records. "Executive Order 13489-Presidential Records," signed by Barack Obama on January 21, 2009, begins as follows: "By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America ..." Yet, the very first thing he did as alleged-President was sign an Executive Order that locks all of his records, including his personal ones, away from public view. In addition, the records indicate the number was issued between 1977 and 1979, yet Obama's earliest employment reportedly was in 1975 at a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream shop in Oahu, Hawaii. "It is a crime to use more than one Social Security number, and Barack Obama had to have a previous Social Security number to have worked at Baskin-Robbins," Ohio licensed private investigator Susan Daniels insisted. Resident, But Not President

JB Williams -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Our Founding Fathers could not have been any more specific about the requirements for the office of president, "NO PERSON except a NATURAL-BORN Citizen." It isn't their fault that too many Americans don't care about or can't comprehend this term or the purpose behind it today. Obama is NOT a "natural-born citizen" of the United States of America, no matter which propaganda argument you choose to buy. He can, therefore, not legally hold the office of President or Vice President of the United States and all laws and orders given while he fraudulently holds that office are null and void. Legal US citizens or sovereign states are NOT obligated to follow illegal laws from a fraudulent resident of the people's White House. Two Requests For Obama's Selective Service Registration Through The Freedom Of Information Act Yield Differing Numbers

When two people requested Obama's Selective Service registration through the Freedom of Information Act, each received a computer printout with different information. Each Selective Service record is assigned a DLN, or Document Locator Number. While both Coffman's and Allen's registration forms contained the ten-digit Document Locator Number (DLN) 0897080632 in the upper right-hand corner, the computer printouts differed. Coffman's computer printout was entitled "RIMS History Inquiry Screen" and showed a DLN of 8089 708 0632. The Kramdenation of Barack Obama

In 2009, Barack Obama issued this Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government, which said, in part: "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust, and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government." That from the largest recipient of campaign funds from British Petrolium, who were repaid with lax oversight and regulatory exemptions that led to the Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill. In this podcast, Robert Jay March discusses the attempts to bribe Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff out of their respective primaries, contrasting this with the promises of openness and transparency made by Barack Obama while he was running, and in the early days of his occupancy of the White House. Paraphrasing Obama's response to the scandal: Hamena, hamena, hamena.

YEST TBS Touts Conan O'Brien For An Emmy -- For His Work On NBC

Mark Sappenfield -- Christian Science Monitor

Has cable network TBS lost its mind, or is it in fact a cunning TV genius? Neither, probably, but the second might be closer to true. The implication is clear. A win for NBC would be a much greater win for TBS: a critical raspberry lacking only the waving fingers behind the ears and stuck-out tongue: We've got Conan and you don't. ...

YEST Fallon's Ratings Tumble

New York Post

NBC's top brass are worried about Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" show after the ratings dropped 20 percent in a year. Recent Nielsen figures show Fallon's viewers have dropped to 1.63 million -- a 20 percent fall from May 2009 -- and he's being beaten by both his ABC rival Jimmy Kimmel and CBS's Craig Ferguson, whose May 2010 ratings were 1.72 million and 1.7 million, respectively. Marc Berman, Mediaweek's "Mr. Television," told us, "When they took out Jay and put in Conan, they lost a lot of the viewers who would usually have stayed on to watch Fallon. The lead-in is pivotal . . . When you mess around with viewers, sometimes it's hard to get them back. TV is a very fickle business . . . If there is a lesson to be learned from this debacle, it is that if it's not broken, don't fix it." ...

YEST Get Ready To Sink Your Teeth Into True Blood Season 3

Jeanne Jakle -- Houston Chronicle

If True Blood sucked you in before, just wait until you watch Season 3. There are so many twists, turns and sexy thrills -- including intriguing vampire politics and crazy Nazi werewolves -- you won't know what bit you. Nelsan Ellis, who plays sharp-tongued, critic-pleasing Lafayette Reynolds, offered his take on the monster drama's new, 12-episode season, which bows at 8 p.m. Sunday on HBO. We also are treated to lots of back stories, including those of Bill; vampire sheriff Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard); Sookie's shape-shifting boss, Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell); and Lafayette. "We dig into his character a bit," Ellis said. ...

YEST True Blood's New Kid In The Bayous, Marshall Allman: 'Half The Fun Is The Ride To The Party'

Tim Hayne -- Parade Magazine

In Sunday's Season 3 premiere, audiences will be introduced to Tommy Mickens, Sam Merlotte's shape-shifting younger brother, played by Marshall Allman (Hostage, Prison Break). Of course, new characters come with new drama. Allman took some time away from the set to talk about being "the new kid in school," breathing life into his wildcard character and why fans should keep a close eye on Sookie, Bill and Eric. ...

Liar's Poker and Obama's 'Tell'

What did Obama know and when did he know it? We can expect to hear that question repeated over and over again, and this time without the news blackout imposed by all the networks, including Fox News, on the questions about Obama's birth certificate

Barack Obama had promised transparency in governance, but has proved himself to be just another practitioner of deep-dish Chicago politics: cheesy, with a thick crust. His credibility had apparently hit bottom with his handling of the BP oil spill, coupled with the revelation that Obama was the largest recipient of campaign contributions from BP, but this latest revelation has pushed it into the sub-basement. When we first inaugurated the Obamalot section of MarchReport.com on January 27, 2009, with a logo containing the phrase "Transparency Since 2009 (Except When We're Opaque)," we got the expected protests that proclaimed the new messiah would be open about everything. Of course, we knew better, having already seen his duplicity regarding his legal qualifications to serve as President. It was not exactly a stretch to visualize how he would conduct himself in office, and he has lived down to our expectations.

On February 18, 2010, Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) revealed on Comcast's Larry Kane Show that the White House had offered him a job to induce him to withdraw from the primary race against turncoat former Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who had switched parties in order to assure his re-election. It's interesting to note that the story, which is a public relations nightmare for Obama, was broken on a Comcast cable show, in that it is Comcast that is buying NBC (including MSNBC). Does this presage a change of direction for MSNBC, which to date has been little more than a public relations service for Obama?

It was rumored that Sestak, a retired naval Admiral, had been offered the position of Secretary of the Navy in violation of Title 18 USC §211, "Acceptance or solicitation to obtain appointive public office," Title 18 USC §595 "Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments," and Title 18 USC § 600 "Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity." Only the President (or, in this case, the guy who plays one on T.V.) could have authorized such an offer, since it is he who makes such appointments. This is an impeachable offense, being a "high crime or misdemeanor," which at the time of the drafting of the Constitution, meant a crime or misdemeanor that the offender would ordinarily have been spared the consequences of, by virtue of his high position.

On April 21, 2010, Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the top ranking Republican Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Sestak bribe attempt. To date, there has been no such appointment.

On the May 23 edition of Face The Nation, Sestak again confirmed the job offer, but would not give any details.

The range of human experiences is quite limited, and the same events keep repeating themselves over and over again, with a different cast of characters, much like a Hollywood re-make. The Sestak affair is eerily reminiscent of a Gus Van Sant re-make of the Watergate crisis. Much like Van Sant's color remake of Psycho, it's the same script replayed with lesser actors. Just as during the Nixon administration, and several times since, The White House has investigated itself, assuring us that nothing improper has happened; and, just as happened during the Nixon years, very few are buying it. Clearly, a special prosecutor or independent counsel needs to be appointed.

Modern-day reporters are inherently lazy, being closer to game-show hosts than the ink-stained wretches of yore, and like stories that present themselves already written; no wearing out shoe leather, or even using up cell-phone minutes nowadays. No press-pass sticking up out of their well-worn hat brim: that might muss their well-coifed hair. Regardless of how much they have covered up for Obama thus far, there is now blood in the water, and if it bleeds, it leads.

They started by quizzing his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who hemmed and hawed, being very careful to say nothing that could get him indicted as a co-conspirator. Then they asked Obama, who did his best impression of Ralph Kramden saying, "Hamena, Hamena, Hamena." Watch the video in the immediately preceding link, and take note of Obama's body language. Stiff as a board, saucer eyed, unblinkingly staring at Alice Kramden ... I mean, Major Garrett.

At least Richard Nixon had the guts to look right into the camera and lie. Just as Obama did when he fumbled the Inauguration oath...

... his "Tell" betrays him. Somewhere inside him, there is the awareness that he is doing wrong. Somewhere inside him, there is the desire to get caught, and that force is struggling to find it's way to the surface, to burst forth as if from John Hurt's chest.

The song "The Gambler," popularized by Kenny Rogers, contains these lyrics: "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces, / And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. / So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces."

You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold em. Hopefully, this time the press, which has horribly betrayed us thus far, will force him to show his hole card and surrender his chips. That said, you never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.

Obama Can't Match The Clintons' Cool Sleaziness

Chris Stirewalt -- Washington Examiner

When "not illegal" is the best thing that the White House can say about the behavior of the president's top aides, it's not a good sign. But the Obama administration finds itself holding the sleazy-but-legal line on deals Rahm Emanuel and his lieutenant, Jim Messina, tried to cut to keep Democrats Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff from taking on the national party's preferred candidates in Senate primaries. In both cases, the efforts failed. ...

Obama Vs. Israel

Abraham Foxman -- Jerusalem Post (IL)

The US has decided to support a resolution at the UN Nonproliferation conference which specifically calls on Israel to open up its nuclear facilities and join the NPT treaty. What does this decision say about the Obama administration's assumptions and directions regarding Israel? The administration is reportedly trying to reassure Israel that if any similar resolution comes to the Security Council, it will veto it. Still, another element in the historic relationship between the two countries has been eviscerated. What is becoming a pattern is that when the administration looks at America's broader interests, it too often chooses to see the Israeli position as undermining those interests. ...

America Is In Trouble, And Obama Can't Be Counted On To Save Her

Michael Goodwin -- FOX News

Barack Obama is the backward man. Teddy Roosevelt's advice to "speak softly and carry a big stick" was meant as a guide to successful foreign relations. Obama has completely muddled the message. He speaks softly to foreign adversaries and uses the big stick on American dissenters. Iran and Syria are wooed endlessly with carrots, apologies and promises of grand bargains. They respond with taunts and threats and pay no penalty. North Korea sinks a South Korean ship, and our secretary of state says it means no more business as usual. That's an admission it has been business as usual even after the loony kingdom tested nukes. The Mexican president comes to Washington and berates American citizens for expressing their views through the democratic process, and Obama shamefully nods in agreement. A State Department aide apologizes to China -- to China! -- about our treatment of illegal immigrants. ...

Where Professors Rule, Life Is Cruel

Stuart Schwartz -- American Thinker

Welcome to government by professor. Assorted faculty of Ivy League schools have come together to form an administration with the least real-world and most academic experience of any in modern times, the American Enterprise Institute notes. And so we have a government of scolds, lecturers, and bullies, arrogant academics cheered on by mainstream media when they take a "paddle" to average citizens and taxpayers. Witness the latest addition to the administration's professorial ranks: Dr. Donald Berwick, the Harvard Medical School professor picked to head the Medicare program. Of course, his knowledge of senior health care is academic, having never actually treated seniors. In Cambridge and Hyde Park (University of Chicago) and Berkeley, they think transforming thoughts about "health outcomes"; in the rest of America, it is called "death panels." ...

Barack Obama's Verbal Trickery

Kelly O'Connell -- Canada Free Press (CA)

Political movements, in particular, traffic in purposeful verbal trickery. In fact, some especially depend upon fallacies to drive their message since their essential convictions are defective or even diseased. Such groups as the Nazis, Fascists and Communists immediately spring to mind here. Barack Obama peppers his rhetoric with a veritable buffet of verbal trickery. But why? Speakers do not mislead unless they sense an inability to otherwise persuade their audience. This is a short list of some of the most persistent members of this false-argument tsunami. ...

Guests Of Vlad The Impaler

Alan Caruba -- Canada Free Press (CA)

It is hard to get rid of a really bad president. It may prove harder to get rid of an imposter, a provocateur, a revenge-filled destroyer of the economy and the nation. Obama Throws Democrat Congressman And His Brother To The Wolves

Wes Vernon -- Renew America

Barack Hussein Obama has just presented us with more evidence that his agenda and his ego are so important that he is more than willing to sacrifice his own political allies in order to make the history books on passing his signature Health "Care" bill. He doesn't care if his party goes under in the 2010 midterm elections. We already knew that. He and his minions are so power-mad and locked into their Marxist ideology and Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals," that they are willing to go down to defeat at the polls - confident that the American people will fall in love with their plot to put themselves between you and your doctor. Thereafter -- according to their playbook -- once they have you addicted to the new entitlement, they can then beat Republicans over the head every election year with their pious claims that anyone who opposes their plot to increase handouts from the program wants to toss seniors, the sick, and the poor out into the snow. They actually think you're stupid. ...

Obama's Ties To Chicago Corruption

The alleged selling of Obama's senate seat was a well crafted diversion to take the heat off of Blagojevich and Obama for the bulk of the corruption charges. An Inconvenient Lie

Prepare For A Bit Of Cooling, Predicts Geologist

Dennis Avery -- Canada Free Press (CA)

"Global warming is over-at least for a few decades," geologist Don Easterbrook, professor emeritus from Western Washington University told the Heartland Institute's Fourth International Conference on Climate Change on May 19. He warned, however, us not to rejoice. Colder winters kill twice as many people as hot weather while crop production suffers from shorter growing seasons and weather-disrupted harvests. Current data seem to support Easterbrook's prediction of an end to global warming, at least for the next three decades. Since 1998, atmospheric CO2 has continued to increase-but total solar activity, as measured by satellites, has declined sharply after trending strongly, but erratically, upward for 150 years. ...

The Motive Force Behind "Climate Change"

Joseph A Olson -- Climate Realists

The vast difference between the maximum heat and minimum ice age weather cycles on the surface of the earth cannot be accounted for by any solar or atmospheric variables. In fact, there is another force that renders even short-term climate forecasts inaccurate. That force is the enormous Geo-Nuclear, heat producing fission reactions of the heavy elements that form the earth's core. Mankind can neither predict nor control this force and is just as powerless to control the volcanoes, earthquakes and ice ages that are the results of variations in this geo-nuclear force. The 11,000 degree F temperature at the earth's core is not caused by gravity, by solar radiation or by atmospheric insulation. Legislative efforts to modify weather with miniscule changes of parts per million of carbon dioxide, a benign, life giving molecule, will soon be recognized as the most naïve misinterpretation of earth science since the world was flat. ...

James Lovelock, Who Developed The Gaia Theory, Says "Democracy Must Be Put On Hold" To Prevent Climate Change

Leo Hickman -- Guardian (UK)

Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change from radically impacting on our lives over the coming decades. This is the stark conclusion of James Lovelock, the globally respected environmental thinker and independent scientist who developed the Gaia theory. "I don't think we're yet evolved to the point where we're clever enough to handle a complex a situation as climate change," said Lovelock in his first in-depth interview since the theft of the UEA emails last November. "The inertia of humans is so huge that you can't really do anything meaningful." One of the main obstructions to meaningful action is "modern democracy", he added. "Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while." ...

Global-Warming Alarmism Dying A Slow Death

Alex Newman -- New American Magazine

The rapid loss of public credibility over all the errors has also accompanied numerous calls by prominent voices for official inquiries and even criminal investigations. Several universities involved have already launched reviews. And even previous IPCC chief Professor Robert Watson, for example, is calling for a probe to investigate "warming bias" by the UN panel. "The mistakes all appear to have gone in the direction of making it seem like climate change is more serious by overstating the impact. That is worrying," he told the U.K. Times Online. "The IPCC needs to look at this trend in the errors and ask why it happened." The UN will indeed launch an "independent" inquiry, but critics generally expect a coverup. U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) went further, proposing criminal investigations to determine if alarmists violated any laws. A Senate report produced for Inhofe's Environment and Public Works Committee concluded that, among other problems, "scientists involved in the CRU controversy violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, may have violated federal laws." Similarly, British authorities were investigating possible criminal activity by Climategate scientists who refused to provide documents and data under lawful Freedom of Information requests. The scientists may reportedly escape prosecution under the FOI law because of a six-month statute of limitations. ...

At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

    Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
