Sales of a little-known British scientist's book have soared after it was pictured in Tiger Woods' crashed car, he said Thursday. "Get a Grip on Physics" by Doctor John Gribbin was photographed in a footwell of the car after the US golf superstar smashed it into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida home last month. Within days of the pictures going round the world, the book's best-seller ranking on Internet retailer Amazon.com shot up from 396,224th position to 2,268th.

Google Inc plans to build a super-fast Internet network for up to half a million people, a project that could pressure telecommunications companies to loosen their control of Web access in the United States. The Internet company has locked horns with the likes of AT&T Inc and Verizon Communications Inc over the issue of net neutrality: Google wants telephone companies to permit consumers to run any Web application they want, while carriers do not want to lose control of networks they have invested billions of dollars to build. In building the test network, Google wants to demonstrate a carrier could easily manage complex applications that use a lot of bandwidth without sacrificing performance. ...

March discusses Beck's remarks, why he made them, and what Beck's afraid of. During his last podcast, Robert Jay March asked, "Is Glenn Beck a Hero or a Coward?" The verdict is now in. Britt Hume's Remarks on Tiger Woods and Buddhism. On the January 3, 2010 edition of Fox News Sunday, Hume said this: "the extent to which [Tiger] can recover seems to me depends on his faith. He's said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith." Friday's stock decline capped a week marked by volatile moves and a series of announcements affecting every major economy in the world. The big swings and headlines left the market with a modest gain for the week. Commodities also declined, reacting to China's moves to rein in lending. Crude-oil prices slid, while gold declined. Michalis Massourakis, chief economist at a major bank in Athens, Alpha Bank, said it was imperative that European Union governments impose strict requirements on Greece to ensure that it did not deviate from austerity measures it has promised to undertake. It turns out that some of the highest-paid financial executives in America work far from the canyons of Lower Manhattan, at companies that have largely avoided the outcry over the return of hefty paydays on Wall Street. Topping the list is John G. Stumpf, head of Wells Fargo, the bank based in San Francisco, according to an analysis of 2009 compensation in the industry. Mr. Stumpf was paid a personal best of $18.7 million in cash and stock for 2009 -- up 64 percent from 2007, just before the financial crisis struck. Mr. Stumpf is making twice as much as Lloyd C. Blankfein, his counterpart at Goldman Sachs. The new financial derivative designed by credit specialists at Citi should be banned. It's too dangerous to exist, adding unfathomable levels of systemic risk, and depends entirely on arbitraging implicit government backing. The very first problem with this product is that it is meant to involve no upfront costs. Buyers and sellers of liquidity would go long and short the CLX by drawing up contracts that promise payments when certain index levels are triggered. That will make entering the contracts cheap, in terms of up front costs. But without an upfront premium or a reserve requirement, the CLX trades will be 100% exposed to counter party risk. This means that to the extent that a firm buying CLX liquidity protection is just trading liquidity risk for counter party risk. ...

Alec Baldwin fought with his 14-year-old daughter, taunting, "I'm going to take some pills. I'm going to end this" -- and then got furious when the panicked teen called 911, police and sources said. The "30 Rock" star later blamed the teen's mom -- his ex, Kim Basinger -- for yesterday's bizarre chain of events. Sources said Baldwin, 51, first got into a fight with daughter Ireland over the phone at around midnight -- and made the girl nervous when he allegedly told her: "I'm tired of this. I'm going to take some pills. I'm going to end this." Then he hung up. It turns out he hadn't taken an overdose -- just an Ambien pill to get some sleep, sources said. Another source close to the actor said pals think that Basinger made sure the incident became a media firestorm -- and that the timing was suspicious. "It's strange that this would happen so close to the Oscars," which Baldwin will host March 7, the source said. ...

Alec Baldwin ended up in a New York hospital after a caller believed to be his 14-year-old daughter, Ireland, summoned 911 to the 30 Rock Emmy winner's West Side Manhattan apartment. The caller was concerned for Baldwin's health because the actor, 51, was "unresponsive," according to the Today in New York report. When police and medics arrived at Baldwin's Central Park West apartment, he agreed to taken to the hospital. ...

John Edwards has proposed to his mistress Rielle Hunter, and is buying a luxury $3.5 million beachfront home where they can live happily ever after with their love child, according to the National Enquirer. The disgraced presidential candidate popped the question at the same time he told Rielle that he'd be issuing a press statement finally confirming he fathered her daughter Frances Quinn, close sources said. ...

John Edwards' former mistress would "get extremely upset and threaten to go public" whenever he discussed his love for his wife Elizabeth in the media, a former aide said, as he released a voice mail tape in which a woman he said was Rielle Hunter can be heard complaining to Edwards about such an interview. In a separate tape, a man said to be Edwards can be heard giving secret signs to Young about his wife listening in on phone calls. Young said the call was placed as Edwards prepared to roll out the bogus story that Young was the father of Hunter's baby. "Every time Rielle would see the senator discuss his love for Elizabeth on TV and about her cancer, Rielle would get extremely upset and threaten to go public," Young said. The second tape was recorded the day after Edwards asked Young to "take the fall" -- a reference to Edwards persuading him to claim that he, and not Edwards, was the father of Hunter's baby. Young said the call shows Edwards explaining to him how to tell if Elizabeth was eavesdropping on a second line. ...

Young, accompanied by a security officer, retrieved the tape from an Atlanta safe deposit box, according to Wade Barber, an attorney for Hunter. The officer's presence was ordered by Superior Court Judge Abraham Penn Jones. After Young got the tape, the N.C. Court of Appeals suspended Jones' order requiring the officer to be present and collect the contents of the safe deposit box. Hunter filed court documents to get the tape and other documents back from Young, and the appeals court order is unclear as to whether Jones can continue to moderate the case at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Jones had given Young and his wife until Wednesday to turn over the documents or face a trip to jail. ...

The murky circumstances of Obama's birth invite attempts to make the known facts fit together. A cryptic poem by the 19-year old Obama called "Pop," relates an encounter between Obama and a man most reviewers presume to be Obama's maternal grandfather, Stanley Dunham. Dunham would have been in his early 60's at the time. The Obama of the poem is cynical, even a little bitter. He makes several allusions to the fact that he and the old man look and even smell alike, a fact that strikes Obama as more ironic than reassuring. Don Wilkie, a Michigan entrepreneur, says "I think the poem zeros in on that poignant moment when Obama was told that his grandfather was in reality his father." Wilkie concedes his theory is "off-the-wall," but he also offers photographic evidence to show that Obama much more closely resembles Dunham -- especially the telltale ears --than he does Barack Obama, Sr. ...

On a forum page at The Hill newspaper, one commenter wrote that the president has only himself to blame for the questions. "Personally I am no birther ... but I am curious as to why Obama continues to beat on this issue ... is it a political ploy by his handlers to continue to use this as a divisive issue? To try and embarrass a certain segment of the population? And if not, why doesn't he just provide the certificate and end all the speculation for the conspirators once and for all? Obama has certainly been a little less than forthcoming on his grades, his Harvard review publications and many other accomplishments" ...

Democrat operatives, using the same address for an attorney who represented the Democratic National Committee in an eligibility lawsuit against Barack Obama, have launched an ad campaign and website called TheTeaPartyIsOver.org to "prevent the tea party's dangerous ideas from gaining legislative traction." In the wake of Scott Brown's dramatic victory for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, the energized national tea-party movement is targeting lawmakers deemed unresponsive to Americans. The anti-tea party website comes as Illinois will have its first-in-the-nation primaries Tuesday. The American Public Policy Committee shares an identical suite address with the Alliance for North Carolina; the Patriot Majority; and Sandler, Reiff & Young PC - the law firm of Joseph Sandler, general counsel to the Democratic National Committee who filed a motion to dismiss Philip Berg's eligibility lawsuit against Obama and the DNC. Sandler is also former counsel to both MoveOn.org and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim group named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist-finance case in U.S. history. ...

Notwithstanding the eligibility issue's complexity, when Obama's so-called 'birth certificate' appeared online, media supporters quickly realized it would likely appear farfetched to the casual reader that the document could mean anything other than absolute proof that Obama was born in Hawaii. As such, Obama's support in the media seized upon the possibility that they could easily ignore the actual parameters of the issue and shape the news to redefine the 'eligibility' issue to mean: if Obama has a Hawaiian Birth Certificate, of course he is a 'citizen', and of course, this equals Obama is eligible to be President. Voila, the media found their vehicle to infer that anyone questioning Obama's eligibility to serve as President of the United States was a complete and utter fool. Because, most people pay little attention to and/or fail to verify the details of news stories (most barely read past the headlines), the media has been able to pull off their slight of hand. And as the media is well aware, once people commit to a version of the facts they are reluctant to revisit an issue. Especially, given that many of the normal players (Hillary, Republicans, and the courts) for their own reasons have been reluctant to touch this story, it makes the casual observer's commitment to his or her position even stronger. Thus, the term 'birther' has become an effective tool for the media and politicians to use to ridicule their opponents. ...

A prominent attorney who has shepherded a number of high-profile legal cases challenging Barack Obama'seligibility to be president has brought a "Quo Warranto" case to district court in Washington, D.C., alleging his allegiances have included Britain, Kenya and Indonesia. A Quo Warranto action essentially is a demand to know by what authority a public figure is acting. The case, brought by California attorney Orly Taitz on behalf of herself, was assigned to Chief Judge Royce Lamberth. John Eidsmoe, an expert on the U.S. Constitution now working with the Foundation on Moral Law, an organization founded by former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, previously said the demand was a legitimate course of action. Eidsmoe said it's clear that Obama has something in the documentation of his history, including his birth certificate, college records and other documents that "he does not want the public to know." ...

Attorney Mario Apuzzo filed the action with the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in January 2009 on behalf of Kerchner, Lowell T. Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr. Named as defendants were Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress, the Senate, House of Representatives, former Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The case alleges Congress failed to follow the Constitution, which "provides that Congress must fully qualify the candidate 'elected' by the Electoral College Electors." The appeal said, "Plaintiffs allege that Obama has not conclusively proven that he was born in Hawaii. They also allege that even if he was so born, he cannot be an Article II 'natural born citizen' because his father was a British subject/citizen when Obama was born and Obama himself was born a British subject/citizen, all of which makes him ineligible to be president and commander in chief of the military." ...

Barack Obama wants to run for reelection he would need to produce proof of both his U.S. birth and citizenship to get on the ballot in Arizona, if one state lawmaker gets her way. Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley, is preparing a law to require anyone running for president or vice president to provide proof to the Arizona Secretary of State's Office that they are legally eligible to seek the office. The U.S. Constitution requires the president -- and, by extension, the vice president -- to be "a natural born citizen." Burges would require the Secretary of State to verify that status independently. "If it's not certifiable, then that person's name would not go on the ballot," she said. ...

In blogs, interviews and e-mails, "birthers" around the country are reporting surveillance and visits from the U.S. Secret Service, whose agents have questioned - or, as some report, intimidated - them over their insistence that Barack Obama prove his constitutional eligibility to serve as president. Stephen Pidgeon, an attorney for Washington state plaintiffs challenging Obama's eligibility, grew suspicious in March when his wife and coworkers reported being shadowed by police and three, black SUVs. "We are definitely under surveillance and it's coordinated with Homeland Security," Pidgeon alleged. The author of this story contacted the Secret Service and spoke with the agent Laudenslager reports visited him in Pennsylvania, but the agent explained he was not permitted to comment. ...

Yet again, Glenn Beck shows himself to be completely ignorant of the issue, while presuming to ridicule those who have taken the time to research it. The "certification of live birth" posted online and widely touted as "Obama's birth certificate" does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same "short-form" document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true "long-form" birth certificate, which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician, is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny. ...

Students of history know that history repeats itself. Today we are reliving the past of 1880's. The similarities between the 21st President and the 44th are startling, and the ramifications are huge. Attorneys Leo Donofrio and Steve Pidgeon have been retained by a group of Chrysler dealers who lost their franchises in the Chrysler bankruptcy sale. Quo Warranto is one of 2 ways to remove a sitting President, and is being filed on behalf of the Auto Dealers who had their dealerships taken from them in the summer of 2009, and bankruptcy motion actions are being filed in the Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York. It is expected that as many as 50 to 100 Auto Dealers may join lead Plaintiff James Anderer in the suits. ...

Two lawyers, Leo Donofrio and Stephen Pidgeon, have joined forces to assemble a case challenging in U.S. bankruptcy court the federal government's use of Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to bail out Chrysler and in doing so may have created a scenario that finally will bring to a head the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president. Their new case questions the authority by which the federal government and administration officials intervened in the auto industry, specifically allocating some $8 billion-plus to Chrysler, which later was forgiven.
