At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

YEST The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks

Dave Rosenthal -- Baltimore Sun

Among the promising books out this month is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which examines the extraordinary -- and controversial -- scientific contribution made by a young black woman from Baltimore County's Turners Station community more than a half-century ago. While Lacks was being treated for cancer at Johns Hopkins, a researcher was able to keep some of her cells alive outside her body -- a remarkable breakthrough for medical research. Author Rebecca Skloot notes in this excerpt that the "HeLa cells," spread around the world, helped to develop the polio vaccine and forge advances in such areas as chemotherapy, cloning, gene mapping and in vitro fertilization.

John Edwards Tell-All Book Details Leak: 'Fat Rednecks' And A Sex Tape

Keith Staskiewicz -- Entertainment Weekly

Only weeks after the bestselling campaign book Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime laid out for all to see the indiscretions and subsequent political implosion of John Edwards, the former aide/human shield who originally claimed paternity for Edwards' illegitimate child has announced his own tell-all account of the affair, The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards's Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down. The book deals with Young's facilitation of the liaison as well as his role in its aftermath and the ensuing cover-up, which Young contends was orchestrated by Edwards himself. ...

Washington Is In A Frenzy Over 'Game Change'

Greg Milam -- Sky News (UK)

Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime, for example, revealed the racially insensitive comments of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid about then-candidate Barack Obama. Obama accepted Reid's apology at the weekend but the calls for the veteran Nevada Senator to resign continue to grow as the partisan squabbling reaches a new peak. But it is the 'revelations' about the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, John McCain and Sarah Palin that are, in political circles at least, the stuff of fevered talk. Like the reported fact that Mrs Palin wanted to call Mr Biden 'Joe' during televised debates because she couldn't stop saying 'O'Biden' in rehearsals. And some of the private details about personal relationships that, frankly, we could all live without knowing.

British Writer Gets Sales Boost From Tiger Woods Crash

Agence France-Presse (FR)

Sales of a little-known British scientist's book have soared after it was pictured in Tiger Woods' crashed car, he said Thursday. "Get a Grip on Physics" by Doctor John Gribbin was photographed in a footwell of the car after the US golf superstar smashed it into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida home last month. Within days of the pictures going round the world, the book's best-seller ranking on Internet retailer Amazon.com shot up from 396,224th position to 2,268th.

Fish Oil Supplements 'Beat Psychotic Mental Illness'

BBC News (UK)

Taking a daily fish oil capsule can stave off mental illness in those at highest risk, trial findings suggest. A three-month course of the supplement appeared to be as effective as drugs, cutting the rate of psychotic illness like schizophrenia by a quarter. "The finding that treatment with a natural substance may prevent, or at least delay, the onset of psychotic disorder gives hope that there may be alternatives to antipsychotic drugs," the study authors said. ...

University Of Texas Researchers Use Supercomputer To Map Haiti Earthquake Damage

Kirk Ladendorf -- American-Statesman

Within hours of Haiti's disastrous Jan. 12 earthquake, a group of researchers at the University of Texas employed cutting-edge computer technology, an informal network of geology experts and satellite imagery to start the work of creating accurate damage assessment maps of the Caribbean nation. Scientists at the Center for Space Research at UT compiled and corrected some of the first damage assessment maps within two days after the quake and made them available to those in charge of planning the response to the disaster. Gordon Wells, the program manager in charge of the impromptu Haiti project, said his team had experience with disaster work, had informal ties to researchers who had done work in and near Haiti, and could tap in to a new computer resource at the University of Texas that could quickly organize the massive flow of data coming in from satellite and airplane flyovers of the area. ...

Scientists On Alert After Hundreds Of Earthquakes Daily Rattle Yellowstone National Park

Cleveland Leader

Over the course of the past two weeks, more than one-hundred mostly small earthquakes per day, on average, have shaken up a remote area of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. As of Sunday, January 31, 2009, there had been 1,608 earthquakes at the park since January 17. ...

Can A Tsunami-Like Wave Rush Across Yellowstone?

Brett French -- Billings Gazette

The tsunami theory is discussed in a recently published paper on Yellowstone National Park's hydrothermal processes and large explosions, a special comprehensive paper for The Geological Society of America. "This is by far the most exhaustive study," said Ken Pierce, a U.S. Geological Survey researcher at the Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in Bozeman, Mont., who co-authored the paper with fellow USGS scientists Lisa Morgan and Pat Shanks III. According to the researchers, the tsunami-like wave could have been triggered by the shifting of a fault underneath the lake, much the same way that a tsunami in the Indian Ocean was caused by a 2004 underwater earthquake.Based on their investigations, Morgan, Pierce and Shanks write that the wave could have splashed the lake's water more than a mile inland. As water suddenly receded in the northeast corner of the lake, the Mary Bay hydrothermal area that had been kept stifled by the pressure of the lake water could have flashed to steam so quickly that it created an explosion capable of hurtling debris at about 2,200 feet per second up to 2.5 miles away. ...

Will Your Big-Screen Super Bowl Party Violate Copyright Law?

Nate Anderson -- Ars Technica

An offhand comment the other day caught my attention: "Did you know that you can't watch the Super Bowl on a TV screen larger than 55 inches? Yeah, it's right there in the law." With the Colts and Saints set to do battle in Super Bowl XLIV, this seemed worth looking into as a public service. Could it be that some of those giant flat panel TV sets now finding their way into US living rooms are actually violating copyright law? US Code Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 110 is called "Limitations on exclusive rights: exemption of certain performances and displays," and it lays out 12 of these exemptions to copyright restrictions. Are 55+ inch TVs mentioned specifically? They certainly are. TV broadcasts and movie showings can only be displayed so long as "no such audiovisual device has a diagonal screen size greater than 55 inches, and any audio portion of the performance or display is communicated by means of a total of not more than 6 loudspeakers." So there it is in black and white-a ban on big TVs!

British Medical Journal The Lancet Declares Autism/MMR Study 'False'

BBC News (UK)

MMR is the combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine which was introduced in the late 1980s. In 1998 the Lancet published a study, led by Dr Andrew Wakefield, which linked the vaccine with autism and bowel disease. It has since been discredited by medical experts. A newspaper subsequently made allegations about the way the research was carried out. The General Medical Council launched an investigation and ruled he had broken research rules and acted unethically. ...

Obama's Deception: Health Care, C-SPAN, And Other Broken Promises

Dr. Paul Murdock -- Canada Free Press (CA)

How many of you would let your children, business partners, employees, or friends be consistently dishonest? Would you pay for a product that you had not seen or researched? Would you purchase a product if you knew the company was incompetent and could not deliver quality? I think not. Yet here in America we do exactly that. Obama has no intention of keeping his moderate election promises. He may provide excuses, but he still would be deceiving you. ...

Obama's Weak Response To Airliner Attack Increases Threat To U.S.

Jim Meyers -- NewsMax

Influential journalist Arnaud de Borchgrave says that the Obama administration is "trying to make the best of a very bad situation" by downplaying the security lapses that led to a Nigerian sneaking an explosive device aboard a plane. De Borchgrave also warned about the threat posed by Pakistanis who are British citizens and can enter the U.S. without a visa; and he pointed to a "growing convergence" between the ambitions of Iran and al-Qaida in the Middle East. Asked about the Obama administration's response to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian Muslim who spent time in Yemen and allegedly attempted to detonate an explosive device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day, de Borchgrave said, "I think it's been very weak." ...

News and Opinion Presented by Robert Jay March

21:39. Recorded
Monday, January 11, 2010
TOPICS DISCUSSED:

Glenn Beck:
The Verdict Is In

On the January 4, 2010 edition of Glenn Beck's Radio Program, Beck mocked the so-called "birthers": those of us who believe, and have submitted extensive evidence to prove, that Barack Obama is not legally qualified to serve as President of The United States, per Article II Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution: "No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President." March discusses Beck's remarks, why he made them, and what Beck's afraid of. During his last podcast, Robert Jay March asked, "Is Glenn Beck a Hero or a Coward?" The verdict is now in.

Britt Hume's Remarks on Tiger Woods and Buddhism.

On the January 3, 2010 edition of Fox News Sunday, Hume said this: "the extent to which [Tiger] can recover seems to me depends on his faith. He's said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith." Robert Jay March, a practicing Buddhist for 38 years, and a devout Catholic before that, corrects Hume's misunderstanding of the Buddhist faith, explaining how that "kind of forgiveness and redemption" is implicit in the Buddhism, and the personal tragedy in Hume's life that account for his statement.

Haiti Stands Firm On Detained Americans

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

"God wanted us to come here to help children, we are convinced of that," Laura Silsby, one of 10 Americans accused of trafficking in Haitian children, said Monday through the bars of a jail cell here. "Our hearts were in the right place." Whatever their intentions, the Americans who were detained at the Dominican border with 33 children struck a deep emotional chord in this earthquake-damaged country. Even as Haiti's crippled government asserted itself in the name of defending the nation's children, officials made it clear that more was at stake. In the wake of the worst natural disaster in Haiti's history, authorities have opened the country to a flood of international assistance, some of it coming uncomfortably close to infringing on national sovereignty. The 10 Americans, authorities said, crossed the line. ...

Ahmadinejad Says "Iran Will Deliver A Telling Blow To Global Powers On Feb. 11."

William Upton -- American Conservative Magazine

Iranian President Mahmoud announced on Monday that, "Iran will deliver a telling blow to global powers on Feb. 11." What this "blow" will be is anyone's guess, though it would seem safe to say that it will have something to do with the Iranian nuclear program and their development of an advanced missile armament. Ahmadinejad's statement comes almost in perfect conjunction with the White House's decision to deploy Patriot missile shields in the Middle East and to bulk up the naval presence in the Persian Gulf. ...

Iran Blasts U.S. Defensive Missiles Plan For Gulf

Nasser Karimi -- Associated Press

Iranian Parliament speaker Ali Larijani said upgrading the missile defense systems in the Persian Gulf would only bring more trouble for U.S. forces. "Regional countries should know that this puppet show by the U.S., while claiming to create security in the region is nothing except a new political ploy to increase the (American) military presence at the expense of others," Larijani said during a parliament session. Iran has missiles ranging up to 1250 miles that could hit Israel and the U.S bases in the region. Tehran denies its nuclear program is meant for any other purpose except electricity production. Four Mideast countries to have the U.S system are Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain -- which also hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters -- and Qatar, which has a modernized U.S. air operations center that played a key role in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. Central Command chief responsible for U.S. military operations across the Middle East, mentioned in recent public speeches one element of the defensive strategy in the Gulf: upgrading Patriot missile systems, which originally were deployed in the region to shoot down aircraft but now can hit missiles in flight. ...

YEST Misunderstanding Or Kidnap?

Rupert Wingfield-Hayes -- BBC News (UK)

International law is very clear: taking children and trying to cross an international border without permission or documentation is child smuggling, regardless of your intentions. "You can't just go and take a child out of a country --- no matter what country you are in," said Kent Page, a spokesman for Unicef in Haiti. "There are processes that have to be followed, you can't just pick up a child and walk out of a country with a child, no matter what your best intentions are," he added. And then -- as Sunday wore -- a new development. The orphanage in Port-au-Prince that is now looking after the 33 children has been talking to them, and it appears that not all of them are even orphans. ...

Pakistani state television broadcast news of Hakimullah Mehsud's death and said he had been buried in the Orakzai tribal agency after succumbing to injuries sustained in a U.S. unmanned aerial strike in mid-January. A senior White House official later said he was "95 percent" certain that Mehsud had been killed. But other U.S. officials said the reports still needed to be investigated. State-run Pakistan Television yesterday said Mehsud died a few days after being injured in a Jan. 14 attack by an unmanned U.S. aircraft in the militant stronghold of North Waziristan. The channel said Mehsud had been taken to nearby Orakzai for medical treatment, citing unidentified local people in the tribal area bordering Afghanistan. Hakimullah Mehsud, believed to be in his early 30s, took over the helm of the Pakistani Taliban after chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a raid by a U.S. drone in August. YEST Taiwan Arms Sale The Latest Wedge Between U.S. And China

Mark Mackinnon -- Globe and Mail (CA)

Even before the Pentagon announced last week that it would sell $6.4-billion (U.S.) worth of weapons to Taiwan, Washington and Beijing were facing off over issues as disparate as China's artificially low currency, human rights, cyber-attacks on American companies and dramatically differing views on who is responsible for fighting climate change. The proposed Taiwan deal -- which would include anti-missile systems, attack helicopters, minesweeping ships and communications gear -- has actually been in the works since 2001. After years of trying to block it, Beijing now says it will retaliate by suspending military ties with Washington and imposing sanctions on the American companies involved in the transaction. ...

FBN's Liz Claman On The Unique Opportunities Presented At Davos

Kevin Allocca -- TVNewser

"Invigorating, unbelievably busy, very inspiring." That's how Fox Business Network's Liz Claman described the scene at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week. With world and industry leaders in town from every corner of the globe, Claman said, "It's sort of a once a year type of opportunity." Claman grabbed President Clinton after she got a tip from a CEO she was chatting with after an interview. She snagged interviews at hotel cocktail parties and after panel discussions. "I don't ever want to be stuck like superglue at a camera location. That's when you miss real stories," she said. She even shot a standup on skis. ...

Dish Network Wages War Against DirecTV With New Campaign

Rupal Parekh and Andrew Hampp -- AdAge

Video AND TEXT. In an aggressive commercial that broke during this past weekend's Grammy broadcast, the Dish Network alleges DirecTV subscribers pay more for service due to the long list of celebrity spokespeople DirecTV has enlisted for its ad campaigns. The 30-second spot -- created in-house by Denver-based Dish -- shows two rivaling flat-screen TVs, panning between them. A female voice-over says: "Last year, DirecTV paid for Peyton Manning, Kim Basinger, Denis Leary, Tom Arnold, The Black Eyed Peas, Charlie Sheen, Beyonce, David Spade, L.L. Cool J, Christina Aguliera and Hellboy, while Dish Network didn't have any. Maybe that's why on average DirecTV customers spend over $175 a year more than Dish Network customers." It closes by saying, "Dish Network -- lower price, no paid endorsements, better value. Why would you ever pay more for TV?" ...

YEST Amazon.Com Says It Will Give In To Macmillan Pricing Demands

Greg Bensinger -- Bloomberg News

Under the new terms, Macmillan wants to be able to set the prices of electronic books individually, with most new titles costing $12.99 to $14.99. Amazon.com charges $9.99 for most best-sellers and new releases. Retailers would get a 30 percent commission under the proposal, Macmillan said. Titles such as "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay and "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel, listed as best sellers on Macmillan's Web site, weren't available for purchase directly from Amazon.com yesterday. A 2006 edition of "Night" and "The Hours" were also not available. Macmillan books are still available on Amazon.com from third-party sellers, Macmillan Chief Executive Officer John Sargen said. The clash highlights the struggle between Amazon.com and the publishing industry over the economics of electronic books. Some publishers are unhappy with pricing models on the Kindle and want more control over how much they charge, said Carl Howe, an analyst with Boston-based Yankee Group. "This is really a war for who wins control of the digital book publishing industry," Howe said in an interview. ...

YEST Steven Tyler May Sue To Stop Aerosmith Replacement Singer

Gary Graff -- Billboard

Tyler is currently undergoing therapy for a painkiller addiction brought on by orthopedic problems. The location of his treatment is unknown, but recent public appearances -- singing karaoke at a bar in Palm Springs, Calif., and signing autographs and singing over the public address system at a Home Depot -- led to speculation he's at the nearby Betty Ford Center. Tyler's Los Angeles-based attorney, Skip Miller, says the Jan. 27 letter was prompted by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's recent comments in the Canadian press about replacing Tyler and by a meeting earlier in January attended by Kaufman, Tyler's music attorney John Branca and Tyler's new manager Allen Kovac of 10th Street Entertainment. Kaufman, according to Miller, "said point blank he didn't think Steven should be part of Aerosmith, flat-out said the band would be better off without Steven -- which, in my opinion, is a very questionable management decision by a fiduciary." ...

An Inconvenient Lie

Global Warming Science Implodes; American Media Silent

Rick Moran -- American Thinker

The revelations have been nothing short of jaw dropping. Dozens - yes dozens - of claims made in the IPCC 2007 report on climate change that was supposed to represent the "consensus" of 2500 of the world's climate scientists have been shown to be bogus, or faulty, or not properly vetted, or simply pulled out of thin air. We know this because newspapers in Great Britain are doing their job. Perhaps its time to ask why this story being revealed overseas with new revelations almost daily can't get any traction here. Blogs are keeping us informed of the latest from England but we hear crickets chirping when it comes to stories from major newspapers and (outside of Fox News) the cable nets. ...

YEST U.N. Climate Change Panel Based Claims On Student Dissertation And Magazine Article

Richard Gray and Rebecca Lefort -- Telegraph (UK)

The revelation will cause fresh embarrassment for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which had to issue a humiliating apology earlier this month over inaccurate statements about global warming. In its most recent report, it stated that observed reductions in mountain ice in the Andes, Alps and Africa was being caused by global warming, citing two papers as the source of the information. However, it can be revealed that one of the sources quoted was a feature article published in a popular magazine for climbers which was based on anecdotal evidence from mountaineers about the changes they were witnessing on the mountainsides around them. The other was a dissertation written by a geography student, studying for the equivalent of a master's degree, at the University of Berne in Switzerland that quoted interviews with mountain guides in the Alps. ...

Geoffrey Lean -- Telegraph (UK)

He is steadfastly refusing to go, but his position is becoming more and more untenable by the day, and the official climate science body will continue to leach credibility while he remains in charge. Four more have now been reported from the part of the latest IPCC report on Himalayan glaciers that contained the notorious -- and now withdrawn -- claim that they would disappear by 2035. And there are now reports that it erred in relying on an unpublished report in linking natural disasters like flood and hurricanes to global warming. All appear much less serious than the original Himalayan howler, but they add to the impression of sloppiness at the IPCC. ...

World Misled Over Himalayan Glacier "Meltdown"

Jonathan Leake and Chris Hastings -- London Times (UK)

Two years ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a benchmark report that was claimed to incorporate the latest and most detailed research into the impact of global warming. A central claim was the world's glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish by 2035. In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report. It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. Hasnain has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research. ...

Obama's Budget -- What Was He Thinking?

Ryan Ellis -- Americans for Tax Reform

The budget deficit is a spending problem. Spending is far higher than its average of 21 percent of GDP throughout the budget window. If you are concerned about the deficit, you only need to look to one side of the budget ledger. Spending is out of control. That has led to spiraling deficits and debt without end. Barack Obama hasn't gotten that message, or at least, if he has, it doesn't show up in the budget. Rather than enacting meaningful spending program reforms that would bring federal expenditures back to their late-Clinton levels, he puts forward minor spending restraint gimmicks. His spending cuts section comes out to less than one-tenth of one percent of federal spending per year. Even worse, many of his spending reductions are actually tax increases on oil and gas companies. ...

 Obama Budget Won't Dent Deficit

Carolyn Lochhead -- San Francisco Chronicle

Barack Obama's $3.8 trillion budget blueprint for next year sets a deficit record of $1.56 trillion, includes a big job program and rolls back Bush-era tax cuts for high earners. But Obama sidestepped any major attack on chronic deficits, which would not drop below $700 billion even after a recovery. Total tax revenue would rise to $2.2 trillion, including rolling back the Bush tax cuts on those earning $250,000 a year or more and ending a welter of corporate tax breaks. Republicans, who plan to make deficits and spending their primary plank in November's midterm elections, swiftly slammed the plan. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said in a statement that the proposal "includes massive deficit spending levels and substantial tax increases, which will make it even more difficult for businesses, large and small, to create jobs to fuel our economic recovery." ...

Obama's $3.8 Trillion Budget Draws Rapid Fire From Legislators

Richard Wolf -- USA Today

The quick response came as Obama sought to juggle his twin goals of creating jobs, which entails tax cuts and new spending, and cutting the deficit, which involves the opposite. Republicans who spent the past year criticizing Obama's $862 billion economic stimulus package, said the president was being spendthrift by raising the overall budget 3%. They lambasted his plan to let President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire next year for families making more than $250,000. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., top Republican on the House Budget Committee, called the budget "a very aggressive agenda of more government spending, more taxes, more deficits and more debt, with just a few cosmetic budget maneuvers to give the illusion of restraint." ...

 Obama's Dull Scalpel

Stephen Dinan and Kara Rowland -- Washington Times

Of the 2011 cuts, at least 28 of the 77 discretionary programs Mr. Obama proposed cutting are ones he targeted last year. Among them are the C-17 transport, which the Pentagon says it doesn't need but which Congress continues to fund and which Mr. Obama wants to reduce from $2.5 billion to zero in 2011. Mr. Obama also called for cutting production of a second engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, for a savings of $465 million. The biggest fight this year, however, could be over Mr. Obama's effort to end NASA's Constellation Systems Program, which President George W. Bush pushed as part of his plans to send astronauts back to the moon and then to Mars. The Obama administration says the program is behind schedule and misguided, given that the U.S. has already landed astronauts on the moon. Peter Orszag, Mr. Obama's budget director, said the government instead will try to spur private companies to develop space vehicles to service the International Space Station. ...

Obama Seeks Over 300 Million Dollars To Empty Guantanamo

Agence France-Presse (FR)

The budget requests 237 million dollars for the acquisition of the Thomson prison in Illinois, where the administration plans to hold dozens of men transferred from Guantanamo Bay, and another 73 million dollars to pay for the prosecution of five men accused of planning the September 11, 2001 attacks. The purchase and upgrade of the Thomson facility is a central pillar in the administration's plan to close Guantanamo. The administration wants to transform the Illinois facility into a high-security prison, with one wing set aside to hold former Guantanamo prisoners. The cost of putting high-profile terror suspects on trial has emerged as a key obstacle to the administration's plan to prosecute the alleged 9/11 plotters in New York City. The plan, initially hailed by Democrats, was reportedly scrapped last week after even moderate New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg expressed concern about the projected 200-million-dollar price tag for securing the trial. The administration has not officially announced a plan to move the trial, but officials acknowledged last week that alternative venues were being considered. ...

YEST Deficit To Hit All-Time High

Jonathan Weisman -- Wall Street Journal

The budget embodies Mr. Obama's larger predicament of needing to contain the deficit without harming the economy, which remains fragile. The deficit has become a major political issue, as antigovernment activists swing independents against what they describe as Mr. Obama's big-government policies and Republicans try to regain the mantle of fiscal responsibility after the Bush years saw surpluses swing to deficits. Republicans have said they aren't likely to cooperate with Mr. Obama on his deficit-reduction approach, opposing tax increases even as they attack Democrats for proposing cuts to Medicare. Meanwhile, senior Democrats in Congress have shown themselves reluctant to cut spending with unemployment hovering at 10%. ...

"This socialist nightmare/Must come to an end!" sang Lloyd Marcus, decked out in a cowboy hat, pointed cowboy boots and a leather vest. Six elderly white Republicans were hauled to the front of the room and were soon dancing and kicking their legs in the air. "My Obama blues/Are melting away!" he continued, as the rest of the room cheered wildly. Other songs followed. The Temptations' hit "My Girl" became "Our Girl", about Sarah Palin. Louis Armstrong's hit "What a Wonderful World" was rendered into a patriotic "What a Wonderful Country". George Hesselberg -- Wisconsin State Journal

An artist and actor who co-starred on the ABC television series "Boston Legal" was found dead Monday morning near his wrecked Jeep in rural Iowa County, Wisconsin, the Iowa County Sheriff's Department reported. The 2005 Jeep of Justin M. Mentell, 27, of Waukegan, Ill., was found down a steep embankment off Highway 39, near Moscow Road north of Blanchardville. Someone saw the car while driving along Moscow Road, the only spot from which the wrecked car was visible, said Chief Deputy Jon Pepper. Mentell portrayed attorney Garrett Wells on "Boston Legal" from 2005 to 2006. ...

Anti-Tea-Party Ads Tied To Obama Eligibility

Chelsea Schilling -- World Net Daily

Democrat operatives, using the same address for an attorney who represented the Democratic National Committee in an eligibility lawsuit against Barack Obama, have launched an ad campaign and website called TheTeaPartyIsOver.org to "prevent the tea party's dangerous ideas from gaining legislative traction." In the wake of Scott Brown's dramatic victory for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, the energized national tea-party movement is targeting lawmakers deemed unresponsive to Americans. The anti-tea party website comes as Illinois will have its first-in-the-nation primaries Tuesday. The American Public Policy Committee shares an identical suite address with the Alliance for North Carolina; the Patriot Majority; and Sandler, Reiff & Young PC - the law firm of Joseph Sandler, general counsel to the Democratic National Committee who filed a motion to dismiss Philip Berg's eligibility lawsuit against Obama and the DNC. Sandler is also former counsel to both MoveOn.org and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim group named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist-finance case in U.S. history. ...

YEST The 2010 Democratic 'Birther' Strategy

Zach Jones -- Australia.to

Notwithstanding the eligibility issue's complexity, when Obama's so-called 'birth certificate' appeared online, media supporters quickly realized it would likely appear farfetched to the casual reader that the document could mean anything other than absolute proof that Obama was born in Hawaii. As such, Obama's support in the media seized upon the possibility that they could easily ignore the actual parameters of the issue and shape the news to redefine the 'eligibility' issue to mean: if Obama has a Hawaiian Birth Certificate, of course he is a 'citizen', and of course, this equals Obama is eligible to be President. Voila, the media found their vehicle to infer that anyone questioning Obama's eligibility to serve as President of the United States was a complete and utter fool. Because, most people pay little attention to and/or fail to verify the details of news stories (most barely read past the headlines), the media has been able to pull off their slight of hand. And as the media is well aware, once people commit to a version of the facts they are reluctant to revisit an issue. Especially, given that many of the normal players (Hillary, Republicans, and the courts) for their own reasons have been reluctant to touch this story, it makes the casual observer's commitment to his or her position even stronger. Thus, the term 'birther' has become an effective tool for the media and politicians to use to ridicule their opponents. ...

D.C. Court Case Demands Obama Explain Eligibility

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

A prominent attorney who has shepherded a number of high-profile legal cases challenging Barack Obama'seligibility to be president has brought a "Quo Warranto" case to district court in Washington, D.C., alleging his allegiances have included Britain, Kenya and Indonesia. A Quo Warranto action essentially is a demand to know by what authority a public figure is acting. The case, brought by California attorney Orly Taitz on behalf of herself, was assigned to Chief Judge Royce Lamberth. John Eidsmoe, an expert on the U.S. Constitution now working with the Foundation on Moral Law, an organization founded by former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, previously said the demand was a legitimate course of action. Eidsmoe said it's clear that Obama has something in the documentation of his history, including his birth certificate, college records and other documents that "he does not want the public to know." ...

Appeals Court Told Obama 'Security Risk'; Lacks 'Constitutional Authority'

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

Attorney Mario Apuzzo filed the action with the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in January 2009 on behalf of Kerchner, Lowell T. Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr. Named as defendants were Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress, the Senate, House of Representatives, former Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The case alleges Congress failed to follow the Constitution, which "provides that Congress must fully qualify the candidate 'elected' by the Electoral College Electors." The appeal said, "Plaintiffs allege that Obama has not conclusively proven that he was born in Hawaii. They also allege that even if he was so born, he cannot be an Article II 'natural born citizen' because his father was a British subject/citizen when Obama was born and Obama himself was born a British subject/citizen, all of which makes him ineligible to be president and commander in chief of the military." ...

Proposed Arizona Law: Dump Presidential Candidates Who Can't Prove Citizenship From Ballot

Howard Fischer -- Capitol Media Services

Barack Obama wants to run for reelection he would need to produce proof of both his U.S. birth and citizenship to get on the ballot in Arizona, if one state lawmaker gets her way. Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley, is preparing a law to require anyone running for president or vice president to provide proof to the Arizona Secretary of State's Office that they are legally eligible to seek the office. The U.S. Constitution requires the president -- and, by extension, the vice president -- to be "a natural born citizen." Burges would require the Secretary of State to verify that status independently. "If it's not certifiable, then that person's name would not go on the ballot," she said. ...

Secret Service Agents Pay Visits To Those Who Question Obama's Eligibility

Drew Zahn -- World Net Daily

In blogs, interviews and e-mails, "birthers" around the country are reporting surveillance and visits from the U.S. Secret Service, whose agents have questioned - or, as some report, intimidated - them over their insistence that Barack Obama prove his constitutional eligibility to serve as president. Stephen Pidgeon, an attorney for Washington state plaintiffs challenging Obama's eligibility, grew suspicious in March when his wife and coworkers reported being shadowed by police and three, black SUVs. "We are definitely under surveillance and it's coordinated with Homeland Security," Pidgeon alleged. The author of this story contacted the Secret Service and spoke with the agent Laudenslager reports visited him in Pennsylvania, but the agent explained he was not permitted to comment. ...

Glenn Beck Dumps On "Birthers" Again

Drew Zahn -- World Net Daily

Yet again, Glenn Beck shows himself to be completely ignorant of the issue, while presuming to ridicule those who have taken the time to research it. The "certification of live birth" posted online and widely touted as "Obama's birth certificate" does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same "short-form" document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true "long-form" birth certificate, which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician, is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny. ...

 America's Two Unconstitutional Presidents

Dianna C. Cotter -- Family Security Matters

Students of history know that history repeats itself. Today we are reliving the past of 1880's. The similarities between the 21st President and the 44th are startling, and the ramifications are huge. Attorneys Leo Donofrio and Steve Pidgeon have been retained by a group of Chrysler dealers who lost their franchises in the Chrysler bankruptcy sale. Quo Warranto is one of 2 ways to remove a sitting President, and is being filed on behalf of the Auto Dealers who had their dealerships taken from them in the summer of 2009, and bankruptcy motion actions are being filed in the Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York. It is expected that as many as 50 to 100 Auto Dealers may join lead Plaintiff James Anderer in the suits. ...

Closed Chrysler Dealers To Challenge Obama's Eligibility

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily

Two lawyers, Leo Donofrio and Stephen Pidgeon, have joined forces to assemble a case challenging in U.S. bankruptcy court the federal government's use of Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to bail out Chrysler and in doing so may have created a scenario that finally will bring to a head the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president. Their new case questions the authority by which the federal government and administration officials intervened in the auto industry, specifically allocating some $8 billion-plus to Chrysler, which later was forgiven. The clients in the case are former Chrysler dealers who lost their businesses as part of the "restructuring" of the automobile company. They have been damaged with the loss of their businesses, and the case alleges the Obama administration, through its use of TARP money, influenced Chrysler's outcome. Along with a bankruptcy court challenge, a "quo warranto" case is being filed in Washington, D.C., demanding to know by what authority administration officials set up the financial arrangements with Chrysler and handed out taxpayer money. As part of the demand for information about the authority used, Donofrio confirmed, there will be questions about Obama's eligibility to be president. ...

Americans Turn Right On Reds

by Robert Jay March

After months of demeaning comments about the Tea Party movement, the so-called "Democratic" Party, which is anything but democratic, is now quaking in it's Manolo Blahnik boots. Having tried to force-feed the takeover of the American Health Care system to the American public over it's vociferous objections, saying "Let's win it for Teddy," it is ironic that their wake-up call came in the form of the loss of the late Senator Kennedy's Senate seat to an opponent of that very bill. Obama's knee-jerk response, true to form, was to blame the loss on eight years of George W. Bush.

After a few days to reflect and allow the humiliation and repudiation to penetrate that thick noggin of his, Obama was interviewed by Dianne Sawyer, who asked him if one term was enough. The question was shocking enough in and of itself, in that it was only a year ago that Obama was proclaimed as our saviour, the demi-deity who would solve all problems (hosanna in the highest and praise be to Barry). Obama chuckled nervously, and replied "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president."

Actually, he fails on all counts. One, he's not legally President, per Article II Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution. Two, in play-acting the role to the most receptive audience any politician has ever had, he's blown it so badly that, even in Germany, the press is saying "Bid fairwell to Obama." The scent of political "blood in the water" is so pungent that Democrats in droves are re-considering plans to run for office, and Republicans who had not planned to run are now gearing up to do so.

Those in the Tea Party movement who are celebrating the victory of Scott Brown have good reason the celebrate, but I urge them to keep it in perspective. Brown's victory was a repudiation of the Health Care Bill, not an embrace of limited government per se. Half of the people who voted for Brown believe government should do more to solve problems, which is inimical to the Tea Party philosophy.

Scott Brown is a "progressive" (read: "Big Government") Republican in the mode of John McCain. He is a friend of convenience, a temporary ally whom they will probably find themselves in opposition to down the road. While the enemy of my enemy may be my friend, I'd rather have a true friend at my side when going into battle.

Meanwhile, down at the Elephant Preserve, the elders of the Grand Old Party are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how to co-opt the Tea Party Movement and turn it into an appendage of the Republican Party. Remember how outraged the GOP was when Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty and Fred Thompson endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in New York's 23rd District Congressional race? The party had picked yet another progressive, Dede Scozzafava, and all the party pros, such as Newt Gingrich, had endorsed her, feeling that party loyalty trumped principle. When it became apparent that Scozzafava has no chance of winning, she withdrew from the race -- and threw her support to the Democrat. So much for party loyalty.

Putting party over principle will leave us forever condemned to whip-sawing from left to right, as every urge to "throw the rascals out" leaves us with only the other set of rascals to vote for. Don't be a Democrat. Don't be a Republican. Don't align yourself with any political party. Be a LOCist.

What's a LOCist? Quoting from my Editorial of April 5, 2008 edition of MarchReport.com, brilliant as it was,

"It's a Party of one, of which I am Party Chairman. It is based on the 1960s theory of television programming put forth by CBS 'master scheduler' Mike Dann and Paul Klien of NBC, called the "LOP" or "Least Objectionable Program" theory. In those days, there were just the 3 major networks (or 2 plus ABC, if you're really honest) and programming was based on the concept of the Mass Audience. Nowadays, with network audiences down to about 50% from a high of 90%, the LOP theory no longer works.

"HOWEVER, when it comes to Politics, there are only 2 'channels': Democratic and Republican; all the other parties are the equivalent of local stations, some with and some without network affiliations. Each major party needs MASS NUMBERS, so they try to nominate the Candidate that is Least Objectionable to their base. That's why, in primary season, Democrats run to the Left and Republicans to the Right, but in the General Elections, both move towards the perceived center. Party loyalists always vote for their party's candidate; the rest of us vote for the Least Objectionable Candidate (LOC). The candidate perceived by most voters to be Least Objectionable wins. Yay! Tapioca pudding for everyone!"

Given that Government is a necessary evil (the operative word being evil), there will always be politicians. People who succeed in politics are people who lie well enough to get a plurality of voters to put them in office. While some may get into politics initially to serve the public, those who survive have that youthful zeal burned out of them. Much as a sword-maker pounds and heats his steel into submission, forming the blade he intended to form, so each party pounds their new blood into a pulp useful only for feeding the machine.

Until such time as our "tea" is steeped strongly enough that we can field candidates that stand on principle, rather than stand for party loyalty over integrity, we must vote for the Least Objectionable Candidate, regardless of what party they are affiliated with. Then, we must hold their feet to the fire, constantly reminding them of how they got elected in the first place, and how fleeting their jobs can be.

Rants & Raves from Our Readers

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent in this criticism:

Mr. March, You linked the video of Hillary Clinton having what has been referred to as an 'outburst' on your site, yet, you did not explain the context. You omitted the truth and presented the situation as another crazy Clinton moment. You not only misportrayed the situation, you lost an opportunity to share/address the plight of women who have no rights in their country. I have been a long time reader of your March Report and have shared the Report with many people. I wrote to you addressing the Clinton video and have seen no retraction or explanation. I won't be referring anyone to this page anymore. My belief and trust that you maintain objectivity and research all sides has been permanently altered recently. Consevative or not, you have always seemed to work at being fair and true to journalism. I now am seeing you differently.

Robert Jay March Responds:

This reader has mischaracterized the report. In fact, we went out of way to add clarity to the situation. The copy proved by WMAQ-TV, the televsion station which provide the report through one of our syndicators, said "A Congolese university student seems to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's." In order to portray the situation accurately, we rewrote the copy to read as follows (emphasis added): "As a result of a translator's error, a Congolese university student appears to presume that Bill Clinton's opinion is more important than the current Secretary of State's. Hillary explodes, and hilarity ensues. Oh, those wacky, wacky Clintons." That was all the information that was available on August 11, 2009, when we ran the story. Witty retort aside, we went out of our way to clarify the report. Further details from the State Department and the White House did not become available until the following day.

Another reader, who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "Needles," has an unusual take on the Certifi-Gate crisis:

The birthers need to step back and consider the consequences of their actions. If Mr. Obama were to be declared ineligible, there are several possible outcomes. They could remove him from office and install Joe Biden as President. The argument would be made that if Mr. Obama was not eligible to run for President, then the ticket is invalid as well and Joe Biden should not be Vice President. The next person in the order of succession would be Speaker of the House; Nancy Pelosi. Because no eligible candidate received a majority of electoral votes, the selection of the President could be thrown into the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would then be king-maker. The choices are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or someone Nancy Pelosi picks. Maybe it is best to leave the birth certificate matter alone.

Robert Jay March Responds:

Mr. Obama being declared ineligible does not legally invalidate Biden's election, provided he is qualified. Even if it did, the Constitution is too important to ignore; it is all that separates us from tyranny. Regardless of the consequences, if in fact Mr. Obama is ineligible, he must be removed. That said, all we have thus far is the preponderance of evidence leading to a likely conclusion, not conclusive facts. That is why the revelation of the long-form birth certificate is so important.

Finally, a third reader who wish to be referred to by the nom de plume "unihawker," writes:

Dear Mr. March, I was watching TV the other night and they showed a clip of Obama in Kenya during his trip there during the campaign. I am not sure if it was just some Freudian slip or not, but he said as he was waiving to the people greeting him, "Thank you, it is great to be back home". My question was, If he was not born in that country why would he call it home?

Robert Jay March Responds:

Good question, for which I have no answer. If this report is correct, it is yet another contribution to the preponderance of evidence that implies Mr. Obama is ineligible. A copy of the long form birth certificate would cost Mr. Obama $12; thus far he has spent $1.3 Million to avoid producing it. As in any investigation, follow the money: in this case, what money is being spent on to conceal.
