At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Johnny Depp Brings Outlaw John Dillinger To Life

Rachel Abramowitz -- Los Angeles Times
Actor Johnny Depp has fond memories of his first machine gun. He was a kid growing up in Owensboro, Ky., and around age 5 or 6, began shooting .22s, then moved to .38s, .44s and .45s. Then he got his hands on a relative's Thompson submachine gun. "I butted it up against the tree 'cause it tends to ride up on you," says Depp, 46, who relives the moment, complete with shooting sounds. "My pop came in and grabbed it, so it didn't go anywhere." Guns are a topic of conversation for Depp, given that the superstar is talking about his new film, "Public Enemies", the R-rated Michael Mann gangster epic in which he plays infamous 1930s bank robber John H. Dillinger. ...

Anne Rice On The Vampire Chronicles

Aaron W. Tellock -- New York Examiner
Rice: "I am intrigued by the direction the vampire legend has taken. I think the teen vampire romance, Twilight, was a curious film in many respects, one obviously made for 12 year olds, and it presents a very tame picture of the vampire and one that does not entirely make sense. We are to believe that a group of immortals choose to life in a tiny town rather than a metropolis, and that they go to high school over and over again, which certainly sounds horrible. But obviously this appeals to very young kids and the vampire, Edward, is charming, and strong, and is a powerful metaphor for the outsider and also he represents what teenagers dream of: a boyfriend who is really deep and caring and powerful and protective. In a way, it is about a young girl's desire for an older man. True Blood, the HBO series, is infinitely more complex. The show is clever, satirical and yet deeply involving. It is full of humor and yet its characters have tender and emotional scenes. I find it very engaging and fun to watch. Obviously it has too much sex and violence for very young teens. But for an adult audience, it is an amazing development in the vampire mythology, putting the vampires right into the mainstream of the modern world. I like the show. I think the vampire Bill is the usual metaphor for the outsider and the sensitive outcast who suffers. He's excellent."

Honduran Leader Vows Zelaya Won't Return

Gigi Graciette -- KTTV-TV
Video The interim president of Honduras vowed Tuesday not to resign the post he took over following a military coup and claimed that only an armed invasion would restore his ousted predecessor to power. ...

Honduras Faces More Isolation As Protests Grow

Sophie Nicholson -- Agence France-Presse (FR)
After winning the backing of the UN General Assembly for his bid to return to power, Zelaya was expected in Washington Wednesday for meetings with US officials before heading back to Honduras. But Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi warned that Zelaya would "immediately" be arrested if he returned to Honduras, where he faces charges that include "treason" and "abuse of authority." The wealthy 57-year-old rancher was removed in his pajamas by Honduran troops Sunday and put on a plane to Costa Rica amid a confrontation over his bid to rewrite the constitution so he could run for a second term. Apparently seeking to defuse tensions, Zelaya said in New York he would not seek a second term in office -- a concession on the issue that detonated the Honduran crisis. ...

O.A.S. Issues Ultimatum On Honduras

Associated Press
Honduran coup leaders have three days to restore deposed President Manuel Zelaya to power, the Organization of American States said Wednesday, before Honduras risks being suspended from the group. OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza delivered what he called ''an ultimatum'' as OAS talks regarding the crisis dragged into the early-morning hours. The talks began Tuesday afternoon. In a sharply worded resolution, the OAS said it vehemently condemned the coup and ''the arbitrary detention and expulsion'' of Zelaya. The coup, the resolution said, has produced an ''unconstitutional alteration of the democratic order.'' The envoys demanded Zelaya's immediate and safe return to power. Calling Zelaya's overthrow an ''old-fashioned coup,'' Insulza said: ''We need to show clearly that military coups will not be accepted. We thought we were in an era when military coups were no longer possible in this hemisphere.'' ...

A United Nations inquiry into the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is to begin. It is headed by Chile's ambassador to the UN, Heraldo Munoz, and includes a former Indonesian attorney general and a former senior Irish police officer. The inquiry will last six months and investigate the "facts and circumstances" of Ms Bhutto's killing. She was killed in December 2007 as she left a rally of her Pakistan People's Party (PPP) supporters in Rawalpindi. ...

Black Box Located In Yemenia Airlines Crash

Voice Of America
French and Yemeni officials say efforts to retrieve the so-called "black box" could begin later Wednesday. The Yemenia Air flight, which originated in Paris, had 153 people on board when it crashed into the Indian Ocean in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday. So far, rescuers say there is just one survivor - 14-year-old Bahia Bakari, who was traveling with her mother from France to visit family. ...

Causes Of Yemeni Air Crash Remains Elusive

Xinhua News Agency (CN)
Yemeni Transport Minister Khaled al-Wazir refuted the reports that the crash of the Airbus A310-300 was due to technical problems. Al-Wazir said the French authorities did put forward some suggestions for the plane two years ago, but the advices concerned mostly the level of passenger comfort including some improvements of plane seats, television screen and earphones. Yemeni civil aviation deputy chief Mohammed Abdul Qader said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the crash. But he said the wind was 61 kph as the plane was landing in the middle of the night. "The weather was very bad," he said, adding the windy conditions hampered rescue efforts. ...

Is Pakistan's Taliban War About To Get Bigger?

Robert Birsel -- Reuters
Some analysts say Pakistan is fighting the groups that pose the greatest danger to it, the ones attacking security forces and setting off bombs in cities, while largely ignoring the groups that fight in Afghanistan. Pakistan has a tradition of using Islamist fighters to achieve foreign policy aims and analysts say it is nervous about the growing influence of old rival India in Afghanistan, and about the prospect of U.S. forces pulling out and leaving the country in chaos. For these reasons, analysts say, Pakistan is reluctant to open hostilities with groups, such as the Haqqani network and Afghan Taliban, which pose no danger to it and which could provide leverage in Afghanistan. ...

Iranian Militia Calls For Probe On Opposition Leader

FOX News
The feared Basij militia has asked Iran's chief prosecutor to investigate opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi for his role in violent protests that it said undermined national security in the aftermath of last month's hotly disputed presidential election. The semiofficial Fars news agency said Wednesday that the militia, known as supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's street enforcers, sent the prosecutor a letter accusing Mousavi of taking part in nine offenses against the state, including "disturbing the nation's security," which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment. ...

The Writing On The Wall

Tehran Bureau
For visible signs of the post-election unrest which has gripped the city of Tehran, one has to read between the lines. Walls have been the battle scenes of graffiti and counter-graffiti. In many locations, black spray paint has not quite been enough to obscure the outline contours of the name "Mir Hossein Mousavi" written in green. More effective has been the thick white paint employed on either side of the Sadr Highway which has reduced the extensive writing on the wall to puffy clouds floating on concrete gray skies. Persistent street artists have already scribbled "honk your horns!" on the fresh white canvases, hoping to revive the rebellious cacophony of evenings past. Running parallel with the eradication of physical signs of the pre-election debate has been the battle being waged for contrasting visions of Iran's post-election reality. ...

NYPD: High-Profile Buildings Need Tighter Security

Tom Hays -- Associated Press
Managers and developers of high-profile skyscrapers and other buildings in the city need to take more steps to guard against terrorist attacks, according to a new report by the New York Police Department. "The same qualities that make the city's buildings recognized icons of design, culture and commerce also make them continuous targets of terrorism," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in a foreword for the report. The Empire State Building, New York Stock Exchange and Freedom Tower planned for ground zero have been cited in the past as potential targets. ...

High Court Ruling Buoys White Buffalo Firefighters

Dan Herbeck -- Buffalo News
In New Haven, Conn., city officials tossed out the results of a promotional exam for firefighters because no African-Americans and only two Hispanics scored high enough to receive promotions. In Buffalo, essentially the same thing happened after a promotional exam given in 2002. So when the U. S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that New Haven officials acted illegally and that white firefighters were unfairly denied promotions, it raised the hopes of 13 white Buffalo firefighters that they will be promoted and get full back pay. ...

Times of India (IN)
Quoting multiple sources, the magazine reported Tuesday that though Jackson was married to Prince and Paris' mother, Debbie Rowe, their biological father is Arnold Klein, Jackson's Los Angeles-based dermatologist and Rowe's former boss. "He is the dad," the magazine quoted a Jackson insider as saying. "He and Debbie signed an agreement saying they would never reveal the truth." Though neither Rowe nor Jackson ever confessed to their kids' true lineage, she did admit in 2002 that she carried his children as a personal favour and would not confirm that the marriage was ever consummated, the weekly said. ...

Obama Flirts With Breaking Campaign Pledge On Taxes To Pay For Health Care Reform

Wendell Goler -- FOX News
When it came to taxes, candidate Barack Obama seemed to clearly draw a line in the sand. "If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up," Obama said repeatedly on the campaign trail last year. But that line in the sand may get harder to spot now that Obama has assumed power and as some lawmakers lobby to tax a portion of the most generous employer-provided health insurance policies to help pay for the president's signature initiative of health care reform. "The president's going to watch the process," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday about efforts to overhaul the health care system. "He's going to be flexible, and we'll evaluate as we go."...

Democrats Now Have Their 60th Vote

Brian Bakst -- Associated Press
"When you win an election this close, you know not one bit of effort went to waste," Franken told reporters outside his Minneapolis townhouse, accompanied by his wife, Franni. "The way I see it, I'm not going to Washington to be the 60th Democratic senator, I'm going to Washington to be the second senator from Minnesota." Having Franken as their 60th vote, however, is no guarantee for Senate Democratic leaders. To enact Obama administration priorities on health care, energy and other issues, Democrats will have to remain as united in support of legislation as Republicans are in opposition, no easy task in an institution where lawmakers weigh regional concerns, ideology and narrow political self-interest as well as party loyalty. ...

Franken 'Thrilled' After Court Declares His Senate Victory

Ed Hornick -- CNN
"We are so thrilled we can finally celebrate this victory and I'm so excited to finally be able to get to work for the people of Minnesota," Franken said at a press conference. "We have a lot of work to do in Washington, but that's why I signed up for the job in the first place." Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie signed the election certificate Tuesday evening. The document and a cover letter will be shipped to Washington overnight and hand-delivered to the Senate on Wednesday, the governor's office said. ...

Next Step: Win Over Gop Colleagues

Naftali Bendavid -- Wall Street Journal
The next task for Minnesota's new junior senator will be to complete his transformation from edgy comedian to influential politician. To prepare, Al Franken has studied the experiences of former Sen. Bill Bradley, the basketball star who won his seat in 1979 after a Hall of Fame career with the New York Knicks. Mr. Bradley kept his head down and worked on unglamorous issues such as tax policy. Mr. Franken is determined to follow suit. "We've talked about this -- how do you come in with a certain cachet, as Bill Bradley or Jay Rockefeller or Hillary Clinton had to do, and make sure you don't p -- off your colleagues from the get-go?" said Norman Ornstein, a close friend of Mr. Franken's and a scholar at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. "He will be very cognizant of that." ...

Port Huron Independence Day Tea Party Changes Strategy

Jesse Dunsmore -- Times Herald
"This time, we realize just standing on a street corner won't make any difference; it'll let people know you're there and not happy, but it won't change anything," organizer MaryBeth Erdmann said, comparing Saturday's event with the April 15 protest. The group protests taxes, government spending they believe to be wasteful, and the involvement of the government in private business. The Port Huron Tea Party group always has claimed to be nonpartisan, despite accusations of being anti-Democrat leveled at similar groups nationwide. ...

First Picture Of Sanford's Mistress Maria Revealed

Rachel Helyer Donaldson -- First Post (UK)
The identity of the woman named only as 'Maria' by Sanford has gripped both the United States and Argentina, drawing more Google searches than Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett the morning after they died. In the video footage, Maria Belen Chapur is shown reporting for the Spanish language news channel Canal America from New York shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. A 43-year-old divorced mother-of-two, she worked as a journalist and translator of English for the Argentine TV channel for about a year, according to a TV producer and former colleague, Gabriel Bartos. ...

Mark Sanford resign now that he has admitted having an affair?" A total of 57-percent of the respondents said "yes" he should resign. Thirty-six percent said "no." Hawaii Senator Helps Bank He Founded Get Aid

Washington Post
Sen. Daniel K. Inouye's staff contacted federal regulators last fall to ask about the bailout application of an ailing Hawaii bank that he had helped to establish and where he has invested the bulk of his personal wealth. The bank, Central Pacific Financial, , which holds bulk of Inouye's wealth, was an unlikely candidate for a program designed by the Treasury Department to bolster healthy banks. The firm's losses were depleting its capital reserves. Its primary regulator, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., already had decided that it didn't meet the criteria for receiving a favorable recommendation and had forwarded the application to a council that reviewed marginal cases, according to agency documents. ...

Sarah Palin: The 'Sexiest And Riskiest' GOP Brand

Dave Cook -- Christian Science Monitor
Sarah Palin's political past and potential future get an in-depth examination in the August issue of Vanity Fair. The report, by VF national editor Todd S. Purdum, calls Palin, "at once the sexiest and the riskiest brand in the Republican Party," citing her deep appeal to those who share her convictions and resentments. Purdum does not count Palin out of the political game, regardless of whether she runs for re-election. ...

E.P.A. Hushed Up Report That Carbon Emissions DO NOT Cause Global Warming

Christopher Neefus -- CNSNews
Critics--including eight congressmen--say the document was suppressed in spite of an Obama administration pledge to bring greater transparency to government. The report was an evaluation of the EPA's current Technical Support Document (TSD), analyzing the endangerment of human health caused by greenhouse gas emissions. The Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained and released a draft of the dissenting document last week, along with internal correspondence CEI says proves the report "was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the Administration's agenda of regulating carbon dioxide." ...

Scientists Make Radio Waves Travel Faster Than Light

Current
Scientist John Singleton, a Los Alamos National Laboratory Fellow, insists that Albert Einstein wouldn't be mad at him, even though at first blush Singleton appears to have twisted the famous physicist's theories about light into a pretzel. Most people think Einstein said that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, but that's not really the case, Singleton said. Einstein predicted that particles and information can't travel faster than the speed of light -- but phenomenon like radio waves? That's a different story. ...

Richard Huff -- New York Daily News
Discovery Channel officials aren't yet talking about the fate of the series, which followed Mays and Anthony (Sully) Sullivan as they evaluated new products to pitch on TV. Certifi-Gate! America In Captivity

Judge: Eligibility Dispute Is 'Serious'

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily
A judge hearing one of the cases challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to be president has taken the unusual step of describing the dispute as a serious constitutional issue and further has begun adding letters of comment from the public to the court record. Word of the action by U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel Schneider in Camden, N.J., comes from attorney Mario Apuzzo, who is handling the Kerchner vs. Obama case. ...

March Report Podcast

News and Opinion Presented with Gales of Derisive Laughter by Robert Jay March

28:01. Recorded
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
TOPIC DISCUSSED:

Shepard Smith of FOX News claimed on Wednesday's "Studio B" that those of us investigating Certifi-Gate, the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal, are morally equivalent to James Von Brunn, the neo-Nazi white supremacist who shot two people at the Holocaust Museum.
     Among his remarks:
"There's been a lot of hate since this President came into Office. He has been a uniting figure in so many ways. He has brought the youth of America together in so many ways. He has been inspirational to so many people. Yet there are a lot of people who have problems with an African American man as the President. People want to talk about, 'was he even an American citizen; where's his birth certificate?" That needs to Stop. It's preposterous ... The level of the hate being ratcheted up in so many different quarters, on so many different web sites, and otherwise for that matter, it sometimes feels like its a very dangerous thing."
The Certifi-Gate page on MarchReport.com is the largest single repository of information on the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal anywhere on the internet. As such, the owner of the site felt a moral obligation to speak out. This podcast is Robert Jay March's response to Shepard Smith's Outrageous allegations of hate and racism against those of us who have the courage to defend our precious Constitution, and the basic journalistic skills to do fact checking: something Mr. Smith apparently does not know how to do. Nine months ago, Robert also was a disbeliever, but felt an obligation to those readers who had written in with alarm to check out the story, in order to assure his half-million subscribers that their fears were unfounded. He was shocked to discover that the stories were true, and reported back accordingly. Thus began Certifi-Gate.
The Certifi-Gate Investigation and associated lawsuits are not about hate, racism, fear, or any other disingenuous motive. It is about defending the Constitution, the very foundation of our Republic.
MarchReport.com issues this challenge to Shepard Smith: PROVE US WRONG. Check the facts ... objectively ... as would be done with any low-level politician, and, when you find the truth (as you will), report it to your viewers, and issue an apology to those of us who did the work first.
