At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Swine Flu: Lab Accident May Have Caused Pandemic

John Bingham -- Telegraph (UK)
Scientists believe that H1N1 flu only re-emerged among humans after a lab accident in the 1970s: a leak, possibly somewhere in Asia or the Soviet Union, around 1977. Forms of H1N1 flu circulated widely in the first half of 20th Century, most notably during the devastating 1918 pandemic which killed about 40 million people. ...

Johnny Depp Brings Outlaw John Dillinger To Life

Rachel Abramowitz -- Los Angeles Times
Actor Johnny Depp has fond memories of his first machine gun. He was a kid growing up in Owensboro, Ky., and around age 5 or 6, began shooting .22s, then moved to .38s, .44s and .45s. Then he got his hands on a relative's Thompson submachine gun. "I butted it up against the tree 'cause it tends to ride up on you," says Depp, 46, who relives the moment, complete with shooting sounds. "My pop came in and grabbed it, so it didn't go anywhere." Guns are a topic of conversation for Depp, given that the superstar is talking about his new film, "Public Enemies", the R-rated Michael Mann gangster epic in which he plays infamous 1930s bank robber John H. Dillinger. ...

Anne Rice On The Vampire Chronicles

Aaron W. Tellock -- New York Examiner
Rice: "I am intrigued by the direction the vampire legend has taken. I think the teen vampire romance, Twilight, was a curious film in many respects, one obviously made for 12 year olds, and it presents a very tame picture of the vampire and one that does not entirely make sense. We are to believe that a group of immortals choose to life in a tiny town rather than a metropolis, and that they go to high school over and over again, which certainly sounds horrible. But obviously this appeals to very young kids and the vampire, Edward, is charming, and strong, and is a powerful metaphor for the outsider and also he represents what teenagers dream of: a boyfriend who is really deep and caring and powerful and protective. In a way, it is about a young girl's desire for an older man. True Blood, the HBO series, is infinitely more complex. The show is clever, satirical and yet deeply involving. It is full of humor and yet its characters have tender and emotional scenes. I find it very engaging and fun to watch. Obviously it has too much sex and violence for very young teens. But for an adult audience, it is an amazing development in the vampire mythology, putting the vampires right into the mainstream of the modern world. I like the show. I think the vampire Bill is the usual metaphor for the outsider and the sensitive outcast who suffers. He's excellent."

Video Honduras ousted President expects to speak to U.N. today to ask them to return him into power. ...

World Urges Honduras Coup Reversal

Ana Fernandez -- Age, The (AU)
Violence flared in Honduras as demonstrators clashed with police and soldiers in the aftermath of President Manuel Zelaya's ouster, with international pressure mounting for him to be restored to power. Defying a government curfew, hundreds of angry Zelaya supporters erected barricades near the presidential palace, threw rocks and beat at shield-bearing riot police with sticks and metal bars, with security forces cracking down on the protesters with tear gas and gunfire. Zelaya said Monday he will return to his country later this week after addressing the United Nations in New York to protest the coup that ousted him from power. ...

'Mistimed Coup' In Honduras?

Stephen Gibbs -- BBC (UK)
Last Saturday night, when President Manuel Zelaya went to bed in his official residence, he must have felt at least an inkling of the loneliness of power. He was rudely awoken before dawn as masked soldiers entered the private quarters of the man that still, at that stage, was officially their commander-in-chief. Now the soldiers were giving the orders. The president was marched out of his house and taken to a nearby military airport. Still in his pajamas, he was forced to board a plane. By the time it took off, he still had no idea where he was being taken, or what his fate might be. ...

U.S. Warns Citizens To Avoid Travel To Honduras

Associated Press
The State Department on Monday warned U.S. citizens to avoid all nonessential travel to Honduras due to the "current unstable political and security situation" there. The department in a statement late Monday also recommended that American citizens residing in and visiting Honduras remain close to their homes or hotels "unless their travel is of a life or death nature," or for a scheduled departure from Honduras. It urged U.S. citizens to restrict travel within the country to necessary trips. ...

Nick Pisa -- Sky News (UK)
At least 15 people have been killed and about 50 wounded after liquefied gas tanks on a derailed freight train exploded in northern Italy. The subsequent fireball engulfed homes close to the Tuscan town of Viareggio. About 35 of those injured were described as being in a serious or critical condition. Emergency services said some had suffered horrific burns or been hurt when buildings caught in the blast collapsed. ...

Jet Was Carrying 153 People

Nicola Clark -- New York Times
French safety inspectors had discovered faults two years ago on the Yemenia airliner that crashed Tuesday near Comoros, and the airline had been under strict surveillance by the French authorities since, France's transport minister said. The plane was carrying 142 passengers and 11 crew on a flight from the Yemeni capital of Sana to Moroni, on the main island of Grand Comore in the Indian Ocean. The flight originated in Paris and stopped in Marseille before continuing to Yemen, where the passengers and crew changed planes. ...

German Court To Rule On E.U. Treaty

Steve Rosenberg -- BBC News (UK)
Germany's Constitutional Court is due to rule on whether the Lisbon Treaty to reform the European Union is compatible with German law. A number of German MPs have asked the court to decide against the treaty, dismissing it as undemocratic. If the judges agree, it would be a major embarrassment for the government, and a severe blow to the treaty. ...

Pope: Basilica Bones Belong To Apostle St. Paul

CNN
"Tiny fragments of bone" in the sarcophagus were subjected to carbon dating, showing they "belong to someone who lived in the first or second century," the pope said in a homily carried on Italian television. "This seems to confirm the unanimous and undisputed tradition that these are the mortal remains of the Apostle St. Paul," Benedict said in Sunday's announcement. The tomb also holds "traces of a precious linen cloth, purple in color and laminated with pure gold, and a blue colored textile with linen filaments," the pope said. ...

High Court Ruling Buoys White Buffalo Firefighters

Dan Herbeck -- Buffalo News
In New Haven, Conn., city officials tossed out the results of a promotional exam for firefighters because no African-Americans and only two Hispanics scored high enough to receive promotions. In Buffalo, essentially the same thing happened after a promotional exam given in 2002. So when the U. S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that New Haven officials acted illegally and that white firefighters were unfairly denied promotions, it raised the hopes of 13 white Buffalo firefighters that they will be promoted and get full back pay. ...

Custody Battle For Jackson's Kids Begins

Associated Press
Video Michael Jackson's family moved quickly Monday to take control of his complicated personal and financial affairs, winning temporary custody of his three children and asking a judge to name the King of Pop's mother as administrator of his estate. ...

Michael Jackson's Father Left Out Of His Will

Ethan Smith -- Wall Street Journal
A will drafted by Michael Jackson in 2002 which divides the singer's estate among his mother, three children and one or more charities could play a central role in determining how his tangled financial relationships will be unwound. Joseph Jackson isn't believed to be included in the most recent will. Several people close to the late Mr. Jackson said that a lawyer for the pop singer could submit the will, believed to be his last, to Los Angeles Superior Court as soon as Thursday. That filing would cap a tense period in which relatives and advisers of the late singer debated what document, if any, was valid. ...

Courts May Decide Who Controls Jackson's Estate

Alex Dobuzinskis -- Reuters
Michael Jackson's family took steps on Monday to become guardians of his children and take control of his multimillion dollar estate, but lawyers said they could face protracted legal battles. Jackson's mother, Katherine, won a temporary court order to administer her son's estate after filing legal documents saying her family could not find a will for the singer. But Michael Jackson's longtime attorney, John Branca, has a will that he plans to file with California's courts. ...

Joe Jackson Talks To The Media -- About His New Record Label

Godfather To Michael Jackson's Kids Speaks Out

Associated Press

Last Jackson Rehearsals Caught On Tape

Elizabeth Guider -- Hollywood Reporter
Was Michael Jackson really on the comeback trail? That tantalizing possibility may be answered more definitively than many of the more lurid questions surrounding his death because rehearsal tapes were duly recorded and have been recovered. AEG Live, the company producing Jackson's ill-fated 50-concert London tour, filmed all the rehearsals. The company apparently retrieved and amassed 100 hours of film on Jackson and his practice run-throughs, including last Wednesday's session at the Staples Center the night before Jackson died. The hours of video could be a telling indication of just how healthy the King of Pop was in the last two months of his life -- fit and energized as his backers (and insurers) contend or frail, out of step and tentative, as many of his friends and acquaintances have maintained since his death. ...

White House Drafts Executive Order To Allow Indefinite Detention Of Terror Suspects

Dafna Linzer and Peter Finn -- Washington Post
The Obama administration, fearing a battle with Congress that could stall plans to close Guantanamo, has drafted an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, according to three senior government officials with knowledge of White House deliberations. Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war. ...

Giuliani Pondering N.Y. Gubernatorial Bid

CNN
Asked if he's seriously considering a gubernatorial bid, Giuliani said "I'm thinking about it but I don't know if I'm at the point of seriously considering it. It's a little too early." Giuliani, who spent much of 2007 and the first month of 2008 running for the Republican presidential nomination, is often mentioned as a possible contender to take on incumbent Democratic Gov. David Paterson in next year's contest. Recent polls of New York State voters indicate that if the election where held today, Giuliani would beat the unpopular Paterson. ...

Firefighters Win Supreme Court Appeal

Mark Sherman -- Associated Press
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge. The ruling could give Sotomayor's critics fresh ammunition two weeks before her Senate confirmation hearing. Conservatives say it shows she is a judicial activist who lets her own feelings color her decisions. On the other hand, liberal allies say her stance in the case demonstrates her restraint and unwillingness to go beyond established precedents. ...

Firefighters Ruling Expected Monday Could Impact Sotomayor Confirmation

Lee Ross and Caroline Shively -- FOX News
The case is one of "reverse discrimination." Twenty firefighters -- 19 white and one Hispanic -- who were denied promotions in New Haven, Conn., claim city officials discriminated against them because they were more concerned about potential complaints of Civil Rights Act violations than their performance on advancement exams. The case is relevant because Sotomayor was one of the three appeals court judges who ruled for the city in the unanimous decision in the lower court. ...

Talk Show Hosts May Be Considered Accomplices Under Hate Crimes Bill

Robert Stark -- New York Examiner
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act HR 1966 which has passed the Congress by overwhelming margins is now facing hearings in the Senate. There are already similar hate crime laws in place, however, this bill imposes much stronger federal enforcement, which is a clear violation of the Tenth Amendment. It grants greater power to federal prosecutors to prosecute hate crime laws by prosecuting those who have been found innocent by local or state courts. The most dangerous part of the Bill which is a direct assault against the First Amendment is that it allows for the prosecution as accomplices in a hate crime for talk show pundits that the person who commits the alleged crime claims to influence their actions. ...

California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass Says Right-Wing Talk Hosts Are "Terrorists"

Los Angeles Times
Bass claims: "The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: 'You vote for revenue and your career is over.' I don't know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it's about free speech, but it's extremely unfair." ...

Amazon Cuts Its Rhode Island Ties Over Sales Tax

Steve Peoples And Neil Downing -- Providence Journal
The Internet giant Amazon.com has severed formal ties with all Rhode Island businesses, a move intended to shield the online retailer from the General Assembly's push to tax some online sales as soon as Wednesday. An Amazon spokeswoman declined to say how many businesses -- local book dealers and other retailers -- will be affected, but she confirmed that notification letters were distributed to "many local associates" early Monday morning. What has been dubbed the "Amazon tax" -- expected to become law as part of Rhode Island's state budget on July 1 -- has been proposed by a handful of cash-strapped states. The plan would essentially force Rhode Islanders to pay a 7-percent sales tax for Internet purchases from out-of-state companies, such as Amazon.com, that have formal business relationships in the Ocean State. ...

Jeff Gerth and Brady Dennis -- Washington Post
General Electric, the world's largest industrial company, has quietly become the biggest beneficiary of one of the government's key rescue programs for banks. At the same time, GE has avoided many of the restrictions facing other financial giants getting help from the government. The company did not initially qualify for the program, under which the government sought to unfreeze credit markets by guaranteeing debt sold by banking firms. But regulators soon loosened the eligibility requirements, in part because of behind-the-scenes appeals from GE.
GE is the parent company of MSNBC. ...

Facebook Brings In New C.F.O. From Outside Internet Industry

Verne Kopytoff -- San Francisco Chronicle
Facebook said Monday that it has hired a former Genentech executive as its new chief financial officer, increasing speculation that the social networking giant will file for an initial public offering. David Ebersman, Genentech's former CFO, will give Facebook's leadership experience outside the Internet industry, from which most of them were recruited. Ebersman's predecessor, Gideon Yu, abruptly left Facebook in March after two years as Facebook CFO. ...

E.P.A. Hushed Up Report That Carbon Emissions DO NOT Cause Global Warming

Christopher Neefus -- CNSNews
Critics--including eight congressmen--say the document was suppressed in spite of an Obama administration pledge to bring greater transparency to government. The report was an evaluation of the EPA's current Technical Support Document (TSD), analyzing the endangerment of human health caused by greenhouse gas emissions. The Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained and released a draft of the dissenting document last week, along with internal correspondence CEI says proves the report "was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the Administration's agenda of regulating carbon dioxide." ...

Scientists Make Radio Waves Travel Faster Than Light

Current
Scientist John Singleton, a Los Alamos National Laboratory Fellow, insists that Albert Einstein wouldn't be mad at him, even though at first blush Singleton appears to have twisted the famous physicist's theories about light into a pretzel. Most people think Einstein said that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, but that's not really the case, Singleton said. Einstein predicted that particles and information can't travel faster than the speed of light -- but phenomenon like radio waves? That's a different story. ...

The Future Of 'Pitchmen': Billy Mays Death Leaves Show In Limbo

Richard Huff -- New York Daily News
Discovery Channel officials aren't yet talking about the fate of the series, which followed Mays and Anthony (Sully) Sullivan as they evaluated new products to pitch on TV. "We're just focusing on trying to support the family," a Discovery spokeswoman said Monday. Discovery has a dozen episodes of the series and the finale is scheduled to run tomorrow at 10 p.m. following a planned marathon of all episodes, getting underway at 11 a.m. "To celebrate a man who was larger than life, the network will run tribute promos honoring Billy Mays and never-before-aired moments throughout the day," the network said in a statement. ...

Certifi-Gate! America In Captivity

Judge: Eligibility Dispute Is 'Serious'

Bob Unruh -- World Net Daily
A judge hearing one of the cases challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to be president has taken the unusual step of describing the dispute as a serious constitutional issue and further has begun adding letters of comment from the public to the court record. Word of the action by U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel Schneider in Camden, N.J., comes from attorney Mario Apuzzo, who is handling the Kerchner vs. Obama case. ...

March Report Podcast

News and Opinion Presented with Gales of Derisive Laughter by Robert Jay March

28:01. Recorded
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
TOPIC DISCUSSED:

Shepard Smith of FOX News claimed on Wednesday's "Studio B" that those of us investigating Certifi-Gate, the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal, are morally equivalent to James Von Brunn, the neo-Nazi white supremacist who shot two people at the Holocaust Museum.
     Among his remarks:
"There's been a lot of hate since this President came into Office. He has been a uniting figure in so many ways. He has brought the youth of America together in so many ways. He has been inspirational to so many people. Yet there are a lot of people who have problems with an African American man as the President. People want to talk about, 'was he even an American citizen; where's his birth certificate?" That needs to Stop. It's preposterous ... The level of the hate being ratcheted up in so many different quarters, on so many different web sites, and otherwise for that matter, it sometimes feels like its a very dangerous thing."
The Certifi-Gate page on MarchReport.com is the largest single repository of information on the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal anywhere on the internet. As such, the owner of the site felt a moral obligation to speak out. This podcast is Robert Jay March's response to Shepard Smith's Outrageous allegations of hate and racism against those of us who have the courage to defend our precious Constitution, and the basic journalistic skills to do fact checking: something Mr. Smith apparently does not know how to do. Nine months ago, Robert also was a disbeliever, but felt an obligation to those readers who had written in with alarm to check out the story, in order to assure his half-million subscribers that their fears were unfounded. He was shocked to discover that the stories were true, and reported back accordingly. Thus began Certifi-Gate.
The Certifi-Gate Investigation and associated lawsuits are not about hate, racism, fear, or any other disingenuous motive. It is about defending the Constitution, the very foundation of our Republic.
MarchReport.com issues this challenge to Shepard Smith: PROVE US WRONG. Check the facts ... objectively ... as would be done with any low-level politician, and, when you find the truth (as you will), report it to your viewers, and issue an apology to those of us who did the work first.
