Barracuda Palooza!

Bar the Door, Barry!
Sarah Barracuda's Coming!

by Robert Jay March

Not since Brett and Bart have there been two Mavericks like McCain and Palin appearing on our television screens.

In a brilliant masterstroke designed to "close the deal" with disaffected Hillary supporters, not to mention let the air out of Senator Obama's post-convention bounce, Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, selected Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate.

This just happened on Thursday, August 29, right?

Nope; and we prove it below. You read it here FIRST. If you subsequently read it elsewhere, they got it from us.

The domain "" was registered anonymously on January 29, 2008 with DreamHost Web Hosting, a California based hosting service that handles non-profits as well as commercial accounts. Yup. January. Eight months ago. Given that it takes 24 to 48 hours for a domain name to proliferate to all servers, the running-mate decision was made at least 2 days ago, and Palin had been under consideration at least since January. More likely, as information below implies (if not outright confirms), McCain intended to select Palin all along, and the other leaks and hints were just subterfuge.

In fairness,,,,, and were also registered (none anonymously); but, when and by whom?

  • was registered on February 10 with by Christian Investments LLC, d/b/a Protected Domain Services of 125 Rampart Way, Suite 300, Denver, CO 80230, a domain-name broker who owns over 51,000 domain names. According to, Protected Domain Services is a known "Cybersquatter." Cybersquatters register domain names that are identical or similar to someone else's name or brand that they think they will be able to sell at a profit down the road. Think of it as going long in commodity trading of website addresses. It is a practice widely considered to be unethical.
  • was registered on January 10, 2005 by Jerome Greenwald of 1521 Alton Rd #708, Miami, FL 33139. According to the Huffington Post, Greenwald is a Democratic donor who gave $250 to the Kerry campaign in 2004.
  • was registered on June 9, 2007 by Michael Deutsch of 7000 Boulevard East #128C, Guttenberg, New Jersey 07093, a consultant who gave $1,000 to McCain 2000 campaign on February 7, 2000. According to American Stock Exchange Weekly Bulletin of April 7, 2006, he owned seat no. 663-R as of March 31, 2006. On April 9, 2005, he registered He is co-owner of SCD Associates, L.L.C., a dormant corporation formed in 1993, according to According to the Huffington Post, he had donated $256 to the 2008 McCain Campaign; guess he didn't have exact change. Perhaps he was hedging his bets when he later registered

Had anyone bothered looking last week (The March Report did), they would have found the "" website carrying the following information: "Welcome to -- the best source for information on the John McCain - Sarah Palin 2008 Republican Presidential Ticket. Stay tuned for important announcements." The,, and sites had the typical cybersquatter advertising links on them. and contain offers to sell and We couldn't ethically run the story last week in the absence of confirmation from the campaign, and since they were playing games (very successfully) with the big boys, we kinda doubted that they'd talk to us.

Now, with the minutia out of the way, let's asses what "Sarah Barracuda," a name she earned as point guard for Wasilla's championship high school basketball team, brings to the table.

This may well be the first election where, for both parties, people will be voting for the Vice-President as their primary reason for selecting a given ticket.

In the August 29th edition of The Christian Science Monitor, writer Linda Feldmann describes Gov. Palin as "The popular, telegenic governor of America's 49th state brings to the table a record of challenging the status quo, strong social conservative views, and the potential to attract disgruntled supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who came close to winning the Democratic nomination but was not chosen as nominee Barack Obama's running mate. Governor Palin's own maverick streak, pushing for ethics in government and opposing special-project funding from Washington, meshes with Senator McCain's stance." Feldmann goes on to quote Dennis Simon, a political scientist at Southern Methodist University in Dallas as assessing the Palin pick as "both a bold and a risky move. Bold, because McCain went way outside the Washington, D.C., establishment and chose someone who was hardly on the radar screen; risky, because she has no exposure to the rough and tumble of national politics. I don't want to draw too close a comparison, but the last time this happened was when [the first President] Bush went with Dan Quayle." Please note that, despite the gales of derisive laughter, Bush won.

The New York Daily News' Corky Siemaszko writes:

"She's the runner-up beauty queen who could wind up in the White House.

"She's a mooseburger-eating hockey mom married to an Eskimo.

"She's a gun-toting, pro-life Christian conservative -- and a Republican reformer who took on crooks in her party.

"Meet Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, John McCain's unlikely choice for running mate - a mother of five who drives a snowmobile, flies a plane, fishes for salmon and wears the mantle of maverick like a parka."

Pat Buchanan opined: "I think this is the biggest political gamble, just about, in all of American history." He says that Palin was a "brigader for me in 1996," a reference to the Buchanan Brigades who metaphorically wielded the pitchforks when Pat was running for President.

A reformer, she took on corruption in her own party, forcing Republican Party Chairman Randy Reudrich out of office; see Wikipedia for the gory details. While this did not endear her to GOP party insiders, Palin achieved an upset victory over Alaska's powerful Gov. Frank Murkowski in the Republican primary, and went on the defeat her Democratic challenger in the 2006 race.

A survey on Laura Ingraham's website asked, "Will Palin draw a significant number of female Hillary supporters to McCain?" The results: Yes: 84%; No: 16%.

Sarah Palin is mother of five, a lifetime NRA member, and former beauty queen. A staunch opponent of abortion, she held to her principles and gave birth to her last child knowing that he had Down's Syndrome. As voters get to know her, the women will want to BE her and the men will want to wake up next to her -- AND stay for breakfast.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton is quoted in numerous media outlets as saying, "Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency." An Obama spokesman chiding McCain for selecting as his VICE Presidential running mate someone who has less experience than just about anyone -- except maybe . . . OBAMA!

Even Obama knows that his ticket is bass-ackwards. Note the Freudian slip Obama made on August 23, where he introduced Senator Biden as "The next President -- the next VICE President -- of the United States." You can view a BBC video of the gaffe here. I looked for some domestic video footage of this, but all of the American coverage seems to have omitted the misstatement; an error they will no doubt rectify in the near future -- my sweet patootie. Hey, kiddies, can you say "in the tank"?

Obama had to scuttle his original selection of Kathleen Sebelius for Vice President after his disastrous thumping by Senator McCain at the Saddleback Faith Forum Debate on August 17. In 2004, Sebelius was considered by the Kerry campaign for the Vice Presidential nod. Obama may now be regretting that decision, particularly since Biden has caused him a loss in poll numbers.

Whomever wins this election, it will be one for the history books. We will either have the first Black Vice President -- (whoops!) I mean, the first Black President of the United States, or the first Female Vice President.

Let the games begin.

As Nancy Wilson of Heart sang, "Oooooh, Barracuda!"

That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Special Report's Panel On Palin Pick, Obama's Speech

FOX News

Fred Barnes, Executive Editor, The Weekly Standard: "Look, it's going to change this convention for sure. This was going to be pretty dreary. Even if they named the hometown boy Tim Pawlenti, the governor of Minnesota as the running mate, it wasn't an exciting chase, and neither would have been Mitt Romney and so on. But Sarah Palin really stirs things up." ...

Staged Unity In Denver

Norman Birnbaum -- Der Spiegel (DE)

Controlled and stage managed by the Obama machine with a rigour that would not have been out of place in a People's Republic (every speech was edited, and parts were sometimes censored out), the convention was utterly devoid of debate. It was a fair, a Kermesse, with a decent showing of rock stars, film actors and actresses, miscellaneous celebrities of every sort (but few or no scientists, perhaps in deference to the Biblical literalists.) And, of course, there were the rich, buying shares of power or at least proximity to it ...

Interview With Bob Shrum-- The Democratic Consultant Who Loses Presidential Races

American Prospect
"Look, it would be inconceivable that a Democrat under these circumstances with this economy would lose. Every model says that he wins. But the one thing we cannot factor into those models is race, and it's what we don't talk much about because we hope it isn't true. But it's clearly going to be a factor. JFK lost some votes because he was Catholic and Obama is going to lose some votes because he's an African American," says Shrum ...

Obama's 'Truth' Site Filled With Misinformation And Outright Lies

Jeremy Meister -- The Conservative Voice
In the latest news the BO camp has issued a letter of complaint to the FEC that American Issues Project backer Harold Simmons is breaking the law. For the first time in American history our government is taking action against a private citizen for daring to talk about political issues in a political campaign. Even if he is found in violation of the law, this is outrageous. I thought the first amendment was meant to protect the rights of private citizens to say and print their thoughts in political campaigns. ...

A Profile of GOP Vice Presidential Candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin

Justin Quinn --
Although Palin does not have much in the way of practical foreign policy experience, she is clearly strong in areas where GOP presidential candidate John McCain is weak. Her strong conservative principles will unit the party around them and her gender will give former Hillary Clinton supporters a significant reason (among many others) to cross party lines and vote Republican ...

Who Will McCain Pick?

Nick Gillespie -- Reason Magazine

The Bradley Effect

Researchers who studied the issue theorized that some white voters gave inaccurate polling responses because of a fear that by stating their true preference, they might appear to others to be racially prejudiced. This theory suggested that statistically significant numbers of white voters tell pollsters in advance of an election that they are either undecided, or likely to vote for the non-white candidate, but that those voters exhibit a different behavior when actually casting their ballots. White voters who said that they were undecided break in statistically large numbers toward the white candidate, and many of the white voters who said that they were likely to vote for the non-white candidate ultimately cast their ballot for the white candidate. ...

Was Tuesday First Speech Of Next Clinton Campaign?

There's no way to tell whether their predictions come from inside knowledge or wishful thinking, but senior Clinton aides like former campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe and former campaign communications director Howard Wolfson have told reporters this week that they expect her to make another run for the White House in eight years -- after a two-term Obama presidency ...

Keeping Hillary's Dream Alive

Reader's Digest
The whispered speculation in Denver this week has been that Hillary (and Bill) really want Obama to lose in November so she can run again in 2012. That plan won't work if the Clintons are blamed for an Obama loss, so they have to go through the motions-or so the chatter went. It seemed to me that Hillary met this standard tonight, surpassed it, really. Compare her performance to that of Edward Kennedy in 1980. Caught in a similar situation at the Democratic convention in New York that year, Kennedy barely mentioned the name of his rival, Jimmy Carter-he did so once, and did not ask people to vote for him-and Carter just so happened to be an incumbent Democratic president. So if Teddy reprised himself Monday night, Hillary reprised him, too, and was more gracious than Kennedy was those many years ago ...

Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead

Jake Tapper --ABC News
The Clintons - especially Bill - are providing some behind-the-scenes drama, with former President Bill Clinton reportedly disappointed that he will be speaking on the night devoted to "Securing America's Future." "The former president is disappointed, associates said, because he is eager to speak about the economy and more broadly about Democratic ideas - emphasizing the contrast between the Bush years and his own record in the 1990s," Politico reports. "This is an especially sore point for Bill Clinton, people close to him say, because among many grievances he has about the campaign Obama waged against his wife is a belief that the candidate poor-mouthed the political and policy successes of his two terms." ...

Review Of "The Good Temp"

Mission Statement

The aim of the March Report is to provide you with information on all sides of the important issues of the day. To the best of our ability, we will not skew our coverage to the left, right or center. We say "to the best of our ability" because, now matter how hard someone tries, absolute objectivity is impossible.

For example (and in our opinion), a certain cable news outlet genuinely tries to be "Fair and Balanced," yet it is indisputable that their coverage skews to the right. Others' coverage skews to the left. Does this imply some grand conspiracy? NO! It simply means that, despite their good faith attempt to be balanced, their deeply held convictions cannot help but seep through.

We all analyze the information presented to us through the filter of our own lifetime of experiences. A liberal, a conservative, a libertarian and a socialist could, in good faith, objectively analyze a series of news stories on a given issue, and arrive at four different opinions; and, they would ALL be right.

In our presentation of the news stories we select to link to on the March Report, we hope to be as balanced as our abilities allow; but, those of us working on the March Report also have our own lifetimes of experiences, so please forgive the occasional lapse and call it to our attention. E-mail us at
e-mail address
(This is not a clickable link, and is rendered as a graphic to avoid having our address grabbed by e-mail aggregators for the purpose of spamming or spoofing.)
Please be brief and concise, and, if possible, please provide links to stories that you feel cover a side of an issue that we have overlooked, or that support your argument. Do not send attachments without prior discussion with us.

We will also opine on the issues of the day, but those opinions will be confined to our Editorial column. In our Editorials, we will attempt to lay out the data that we have evaluated that led us to the conclusion we have come to. It is NOT our intent to sway you, simply to state what we believe and why we believe it. If, after reading one of our Editorials, you come to share our opinion, fine. If you disagree, that's fine too, provided that you've done the work of actually evaluating and assessing the information.

The March Report is a real news site, but with a dose of humor. The site slogan is "News and Information Presented Daily in The March Report, with Gales of Derisive Laughter." While not as serious as the Drudge report, neither is it a comedy site such as

Rather, we'd analogize it to a group of people discussing the news around the water cooler or office coffee machine. There's always one idiot who, while well informed, makes sarcastic comments a la Johnny Carson's monologue. The March Report strives to be that idot.

We hope that you'll make a habit of visiting us every day, 7 days a week. We also hope that you will support our advertisers, in that the revenue generated is what pays the bills, thus making the March Report possible.

That said, welcome aboard. As Rick said to Captain Renault at the end of Casablanca, "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." They didn't agree, but each had earned the respect of the other. If you decide we don't merit your respect but choose to come back anyway, then, as Bette Davis said in "All About Eve," "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride."
