Mission Statement

The aim of the March Report is to provide you with information on all sides of the important issues of the day. To the best of our ability, we will not skew our coverage to the left, right or center. We say "to the best of our ability" because, now matter how hard someone tries, absolute objectivity is impossible.

For example (and in our opinion), a certain cable news outlet genuinely tries to be "Fair and Balanced," yet it is indisputable that their coverage skews to the right. Others' coverage skews to the left. Does this imply some grand conspiracy? NO! It simply means that, despite their good faith attempt to be balanced, their deeply held convictions cannot help but seep through.

We all analyze the information presented to us through the filter of our own lifetime of experiences. A liberal, a conservative, a libertarian and a socialist could, in good faith, objectively analyze a series of news stories on a given issue, and arrive at four different opinions; and, they would ALL be right.

In our presentation of the news stories we select to link to on the March Report, we hope to be as balanced as our abilities allow; but, those of us working on the March Report also have our own lifetimes of experiences, so please forgive the occasional lapse and call it to our attention. E-mail us at
e-mail address
(This is not a clickable link, and is rendered as a graphic to avoid having our address grabbed by e-mail aggregators for the purpose of spamming or spoofing.)
Please be brief and concise, and, if possible, please provide links to stories that you feel cover a side of an issue that we have overlooked, or that support your argument. Do not send attachments without prior discussion with us.

We will also opine on the issues of the day, but those opinions will be confined to our Editorial column. In our Editorials, we will attempt to lay out the data that we have evaluated that led us to the conclusion we have come to. It is NOT our intent to sway you, simply to state what we believe and why we believe it. If, after reading one of our Editorials, you come to share our opinion, fine. If you disagree, that's fine too, provided that you've done the work of actually evaluating and assessing the information.

The March Report is a real news site, but with a dose of humor. The site slogan is "News and Information Presented Daily in The March Report, with Gales of Derisive Laughter." While not as serious as the Drudge report, neither is it a comedy site such as thedailyshow.com.

Rather, we'd analogize it to a group of people discussing the news around the water cooler or office coffee machine. There's always one idiot who, while well informed, makes sarcastic comments a la Johnny Carson's monologue. The March Report strives to be that idot.

We hope that you'll make a habit of visiting us every day, 7 days a week. We also hope that you will support our advertisers, in that the revenue generated is what pays the bills, thus making the March Report possible.

That said, welcome aboard. As Rick said to Captain Renault at the end of Casablanca, "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." They didn't agree, but each had earned the respect of the other. If you decide we don't merit your respect but choose to come back anyway, then, as Bette Davis said in "All About Eve," "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride."

Hillary Clinton may be more craven than the average politician, but she is no dummy
Tygrrrr Express
First of all, democrats react to Bill O'Reilly the way republicans react to Al Queda. The left sees O'Reilly, who last time I checked was merely an individual asking tough questions, as evil. Reporters are supposed to ask tough questions...

O'Reilly asks Clinton if she's enjoyed the fair coverage Fox News has given her
Tyler Gray -- Radar Online
Hillary Clinton faced the Papa Bear on the Factor last night, and critics are already calling Bill O'Reilly's interview the most issue-oriented to date. Aside, of course, from his frequent references to "socialism" (Teddy Roosevelt was a socialist? "Kinda," O' Reilly said) and attempts to bait Clinton into bashing Obama by way of his "loon" former pastor Jeremiah Wright. Clinton didn't bite, really. The closer was a classic ...

The Five Mistakes Clinton Made
Karen Tumulty -- TIME
For all her talk about "full speed on to the White House," there was an unmistakably elegiac tone to Hillary Clinton's primary-night speech in Indianapolis. And if one needed further confirmation that the undaunted, never-say-die Clintons realize their bid might be at an end, all it took was a look at the wistful faces of the husband and the daughter who stood behind the candidate as she talked of all the people she has met in a journey "that has been a blessing for me." ...

Hillary Clinton's strategy of last resort

Last night Hillary Clinton was on the O'Reilly Factor in the first part of an interview that will conclude on tonight's program. Obama's Game Changing
Joe Klein -- TIME
On the Saturday before the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, Hillary Clinton stood on the back of a vintage pickup truck in Gastonia, N.C., and let fly in the most impressive fashion - a woman transformed from Eleanor Roosevelt into Huey Long in two short months. Spotting a big yellow placard that said GAS TAX HOLIDAY IS BLATANT PANDERING - a sign she would have ignored in her earlier, less feisty incarnations - she went after the young Obamish sign-holders: Why wasn't the Federal Reserve accused of pandering when it bailed out the Bear Stearns investment bank to the tune of $30 billion? Why shouldn't the oil companies pay the federal gasoline tax this summer instead of the people who "hold their breath" every time they pull up to the gas pump? ...

To the "Elders" of the Democratic Party...

LET THE VOTING CONTINUE Until One of Them Wins Fair and Square.

An Editorial by Robert Jay March

For those of you who haven't been following the news, the Democratic Party "elders" have been trying to force Hillary Clinton out of their Presidential Primary Race. They feel that Barack Obama must become the presumptive nominee of the party well in advance of the Democratic Convention in Denver this August.

The Math

The Democratic Party has 4,047 delegates attending the nominating convention. A candidate to the Democratic convention needs 2,024 delegates' votes to win the nomination. Thus far, Obama has 1,629, or 40%, of the total delgates needed to win the nomination. Clinton has 1,486, or 36%, of the total delgates needed to win the nomination. Based on this narrow spread, the powers that be in the Democratic Pary have decided, using some arcane math that escapes me, that Hillary Clinton must get out of the race. Supposedly, she has no chance of winning the nomination, despite the fact that 24% of the delegates have yet to be pledged. Their local primaries occur later in the year.

The Circuitious Logic

Now, let me make sure I've got this straight. The Democrats can't allow full, free and fair democratic elections, because that would do irreparable damage to the Democratic Party.

Barack Obama is the front-runner, and in fact he's so far out front that Hillary Clinton must withdraw from the race because the Democrats can't run the risk that she might win the nomination in Denver and embarrass the bejesus out of everyone. Never mind that Barack Obama doesn't have enough delegates to win on the first ballot in Denver. Barack Obama must receive the nomination, because Hillary Clinton doesn't have enough delegates to win on the first ballot in Denver. Huh!? Read it again. Sound like it doesn't make sense? It doesn't!

Hillary Clinton has to stop beating up on Barack Obama, so that he can so out-shine John McCain that even he ultimately will decide to vote for Barack Obama.

That about it, people?

History is Written by the Victors

Let's have a little lesson in history. The purpose of a political convention to to select a nominee, not stage-manage a coronation. In the 1860s, William Marcy Boss Tweed fixed the New York City Democratic Party elections in the smoke-filled rooms of Tammany Hall. Those days are over. In the 21st Century, the Democratic Party fixes its elections on the cable news channels, in plain sight of everyone.

Conventions have degenerated into pre-scripted infomercials, containing an election whose results are as phony as the enthusiasm of the delegates in the hall, designed solely to whoop up the audience at home. "Be among the 1st hundred callers, and you'll also get your own, personalized earmark! Hurry, they're going fast!"

In 1880 the Republicans nominated former speaker of the House of Representatives James A. Garfield on the thirty-sixth ballot. Garfield won the Presidency. In 1920, the Republicans selected Senator Warren G. Harding on the tenth ballot. He, too, won the Presidency. In 1932, during the depths of Great Depression, the Republicans renominated President Herbert C. Hoover. Two weeks later, Democrats selected Franklin D. Roosevelt over Al Smith on the fourth ballot. Roosevelt won the Presidency.

In 1972 the Democratic party nominated Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota on the first ballot. He lost.

In 1984, the Democrats nominated Walter F. Mondale, and, historically, Geraldine Ferraro for Vice President, on the first ballot. They lost.

In 1988 the Democrats nominated Gov. Michael S. Dukakis on the first ballot. He lost.

As history shows, there is no advantage to a candidate in getting the nomination on the first ballot, nor is there any disadvantage in not getting it on the first ballot.

Let me be clear: I am not a supporter of Hillary Clinton. I also am not a practitioner or supporter of Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos." I am not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican. I'm a LOCist.

What's a LOCist? It's a Party of one, of which I am Party Chairman. It is based on the 1960s theory of television programming put forth by CBS "master scheduler" Mike Dann and Paul Klien of NBC, called the "LOP" or "Least Objectionable Program" theory. In those days, there were just the 3 major networks (or 2 plus ABC, if you're really honest) and programming was based on the concept of the Mass Audience. Nowadays, with network audiences down to about 50% from a high of 90%, the LOP theory no longer works.

HOWEVER, when it comes to Politics, there are only 2 "channels": Democratic and Republican; all the other parties are the equivalent of local stations, some with and some without network affiliations. Each major party needs MASS NUMBERS, so they try to nominate the Candidate that is Least Objectionable to their base. That's why, in primary season, Democrats run to the Left and Republicans to the Right, but in the General Elections, both move towards the perceived center. Party loyalists always vote for their party's candidate; the rest of us vote for the Least Objectionable Candidate (LOC). The candidate perceived by most voters to be Least Objectionable wins. Yay! Tapioca pudding for everyone!

So, as Chairman of the LOCist Party, I have nominated John McCain for the Presidency (on the 1st Ballot, no less) because, of the three major candidates now running, he is Least Objectionable. I'll go into the details of why in a subsequent editorial.

Given that I prefer McCain for the Presidency, why do I care about what the Democrats are doing? Simple: with all the negatives the Republicans have piled up against them this year, they stand a good chance of losing, despite the Democrats penchant for seizing defeat from the jaws of victory.

If McCain loses, who of the remaining two candidates is least objectionable? Despite the litany of negatives I could state about both Clintons, this race comes down to color. Not Black or White. GREEN. The last time we had a President as green as Barack Obama, it was a fellow named Jimmy Carter.

Carter was a good man; so is Obama. Carter had a good heart; so does Obama. Carter genuinely wanted to do what was best for the Country; so does Obama. But the nation and the world are still suffering, three decades later, from the mess that Jimmy Carter made of the Presidency, the Nation, and the World. The fact that Iran is our mortal enemy, the fact that our intelligence community is so hobbled that it got us into a war we never would have fought if we still had the kind of people in place that we had pre-Carter, the fact that we are have become a laughing stock around the world, and much, much more, are ALL traceable directly back to Jimmy Carter.

We can't risk another Jimmy Carter; I don't think we would survive as a nation. Yes, it's that serious. I'd prefer John McCain, but I may not get him. I'd rather have Hillary than Jimmy Redux.

Of course, even if the nomination goes all the way to Denver, Obama may still emerge the victor, and Hillary will be expected to endorse him in order to bring the party together. Your country is more important than your party. The safe and ongoing existence of your country makes the existence of your party possible. I can only hope against hope that Hillary will somehow find the courage to refuse to endorse Obama, and either suggest that her supporters vote for McCain or at least sit this one out.

The Sword of Damocles is hanging over our head, and it is named Obama.

Investor's Business Daily Phone Scam

You'd expect an organization like Investor's Business Daily to be reputable, honorable and upstanding, right? Guess again, Bunky! I've been on the receiving end of what I take to be a scam perpetrated by these folks, and this is the first time I've experienced anyone trying to masquerade their scam as a public service.

Recently, I began receiving an unsolicited daily delivery of Investor's Business Daily. I wondered why. Had someone sent a gift subscription? Had IBD made an error? Then, the phone began to ring.

The caller-id said "310-448-6034 INVSTRS BUS DAI," so I picked up the phone, figuring I'd find out about the mystery subscription. Nobody there. Impatient call center, I thought. Later that day, it happened again. Nobody there.

This went on. Dozens of calls! As this entered the second week, I started to get seriously annoyed. My home phone number is on the Federal "DO NOT CALL" list, but some companies take their chances and ignore the list.

I decide to dial the number and give them a good old what-for. You need to hear the call before reading any further, so here's a recording of it:

Audio Audio of the Phone Call

What the heck was that all about? First, they send the unsolicited subscription. Then, they inundate you with phone calls they know they can't make legally. If you call them on that number, rather than try to sell you the paper, they ask if you want to be put on their do not call list. Why would they do that if they didn't already know that I'm on the Federal "DO NOT CALL" list?

I did not leave my number. Since they already have my phone number, and they've already demonstrated a reckless disregard for the law, why should I play their game?

Then, it occurred to me to ask the readers of the March Report to participate in an experiment. Let's turn the tables on the scammers. Think hard before you do it, though. If you are NOT a current or past subscriber to Investor's Business Daily, call 310-448-6034 and leave your phone number. In it's short life, the March Report has managed to acquire several thousand readers daily, literally throughout world. If enough of you do this, it should get them scratching their heads.

I'd also like to hear from Investor's Business Daily, to get their side of the story. Perhaps they feel that this isn't a scam at all, and have some reasonable explanation for it. I'd really like to hear it. If someone from IBD contacts me, I'll post their explanation in this column. Fair warning: should we get a "cease-and-desist" letter, we'll post that, too.
