At the request of some of our readers, discerning and literate bunch that you all are, commencing with the May 1, 2008 issue we began archiving the March Report in a form suitable for presentation. Be advised that some of the links to external sites on the archived pages will have gone dead. Morte. Kaputski. That being the case, archives will be deleted, or replaced with an image of the headline area only, as the page itself becomes useless (assuming that it wasn't to begin with, which may be presumptuous in and of itself).

Anne Rice On The Vampire Chronicles

Aaron W. Tellock -- New York Examiner
Rice: "I am intrigued by the direction the vampire legend has taken. I think the teen vampire romance, Twilight, was a curious film in many respects, one obviously made for 12 year olds, and it presents a very tame picture of the vampire and one that does not entirely make sense. We are to believe that a group of immortals choose to life in a tiny town rather than a metropolis, and that they go to high school over and over again, which certainly sounds horrible. But obviously this appeals to very young kids and the vampire, Edward, is charming, and strong, and is a powerful metaphor for the outsider and also he represents what teenagers dream of: a boyfriend who is really deep and caring and powerful and protective. In a way, it is about a young girl's desire for an older man. True Blood, the HBO series, is infinitely more complex. The show is clever, satirical and yet deeply involving. It is full of humor and yet its characters have tender and emotional scenes. I find it very engaging and fun to watch. Obviously it has too much sex and violence for very young teens. But for an adult audience, it is an amazing development in the vampire mythology, putting the vampires right into the mainstream of the modern world. I like the show. I think the vampire Bill is the usual metaphor for the outsider and the sensitive outcast who suffers. He's excellent."

Attempt To Break Taliban Hold With Decisive Operation

Peter Graff -- Reuters
The Marines say Operation Khanjar, or Strike of the Sword, will be decisive and is intended to seize virtually the entire lower Helmand River valley, the heartland of the Taliban insurgency and the world's biggest opium poppy producing region. In swiftly seizing the valley, commanders hope to accomplish within hours what overstretched NATO troops had failed to achieve over several years, and by doing so turn the tide of a stalemated war in time for an Afghan presidential election in August. ...

American Soldier Believed Captured In Afghanistan

M. Karim Faiez and Laura King -- Los Angeles Times
The soldier has been missing from his unit since Tuesday, said Army Capt. Elizabeth Mathias. Citing concern for his safety, she did not disclose the circumstances of his disappearance, or explain how military authorities had concluded that he was being held, or say whether there had been any communication with insurgents about the missing man. The brief military statement was not definitive about a capture having occurred; Mathias said the soldier in question was "believed" to have fallen into the hands of "militant forces." ...

North Korea Fires Two Short-Range Missiles

Agence France-Presse (FR)
They were launched from a base near the eastern port of Wonsan, a defence ministry spokesman said, with one fired at 5:20 pm (0820 GMT) and the other at 6:00 pm. The hardline communist state has responded defiantly to UN condemnation of its long-range rocket launch on April 5 and its May 25 nuclear test, vowing to bolster its defences. "They appear to be ground-to-ship missiles, which were launched into the East Sea (Sea of Japan)," the spokesman said. ...

Iran Hardliners Want Mousavi Prosecuted

Reuters
"Those who hold illegal rallies and gatherings should be legally pursued," MP Mohammad Taghi Rahbar was quoted as saying by the hardline Javan newspaper on Thursday. It said Rahbar was among several MPs preparing to write to the judiciary complaining about Mousavi's activities after the disputed June 12 election. It did not say how many lawmakers backed the petition. In another sign of mounting hardline pressure, state television said a student branch of the pro-government Basij militia, which helped police suppress pro-Mousavi street protests, had urged the attorney-general to take him to court. Basij students accused him of "inciting his supporters to take to the streets to stage protests" and "undermining national security," English-language Press TV said on its website. ...

Obama Sides With Chavez, Castro Against Honduran Democracy

Washington Examiner
According to Barack Obama, the U.S. must at all costs avoid even the slightest appearance of meddling in the internal affairs of Iran. But it's quite all right for the U.S. to join a declared enemy like Hugo Chavez to support another wannabe strong man like now-former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya? If this is the "policy of engagement" that is required to repair America's image around the world, we ought not be surprised when foreign leaders conclude the U.S. has no consistent, coherent policy abroad, and then act accordingly. When they do, it will be to advance their interests, not those of the U.S. For some, like Chavez, it could be an opportunity to do serious and possibly irreversible damage to America's legitimate overseas interests. ...

Obama Flirts With Breaking Campaign Pledge On Taxes To Pay For Health Care Reform

Wendell Goler -- FOX News
When it came to taxes, candidate Barack Obama seemed to clearly draw a line in the sand. "If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up," Obama said repeatedly on the campaign trail last year. But that line in the sand may get harder to spot now that Obama has assumed power and as some lawmakers lobby to tax a portion of the most generous employer-provided health insurance policies to help pay for the president's signature initiative of health care reform. "The president's going to watch the process," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday about efforts to overhaul the health care system. "He's going to be flexible, and we'll evaluate as we go."...

Calif. Prepares To Issue IOUs

SAMANTHA YOUNG -- Associated Press
California's controller will start paying many of the state's bills with IOUs as soon as Thursday after lawmakers failed to close the state's worsening budget deficit, adding a new measure of indignity to a state sinking deeper into dysfunction. Lawmakers' failure to act on Tuesday, the end of the fiscal year, also widened California's deficit from what already had been a whopping $24.3 billion, more than a quarter of its general fund. The failure to balance the state's main checkbook and the looming IOUs prompted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday to declare a fiscal state of emergency. Under the declaration, state offices will be closed three days a month to conserve cash. If the Legislature fails to solve the deficit within 45 days, it cannot adjourn or act on other bills until the crisis is resolved. ...

King Of Pop Left Behind 'Dozens And Dozens' Of New Songs

Anthony McCartney and Jake Coyle -- Associated Press
Jackson had a mountain of unreleased recordings in the vault when he died, music that is almost certain to be packaged and repackaged in the years to come. The material includes unused tracks from studio sessions of some of Jackson's best albums, as well as more recently recorded songs made with Senegalese R&B singer and producer Akon and Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am. "There are dozens and dozens of songs that did not end up on his albums," said Tommy Mottola, who from 1998 to 2003 was chairman and CEO of Sony Music, which owns the distribution rights to Jackson's music. "People will be hearing a lot of that unreleased material for the first time ever. There's just some genius and brilliance in there." The releases, Mottola said, "could go on for years and years - even more than Elvis.'' ...

Beatle Experts Discuss How Michael Jackson's Death Parallels When Lennon, Elvis Died

Steve Marinucci -- New York Examiner
There was a feeling of deja vu last week for us and we suspect a lot of older Beatle fans when the news suddenly broke about the death of Michael Jackson, especially the utter shock and the complete unbelievability of the whole thing. When the news of John Lennon's death broke, it was a different world. There was no Twitter or Facebook to spread the news. Many of us learned the shocking news from Howard Cosell's sudden announcement on "Monday Night Football." The obvious parallel with another icon's death, besides Lennon's, would be that of Elvis Presley. It's a pretty safe bet that the majority of older Beatles fans are Elvis fans since John himself was one. Neither Lennon or Jackson, who both appeared to be in prime physical shape (though some stories coming out about Jackson in the last couple of days have raised medical questions), seemed unlikely to pass away so suddenly. ...

E.P.A. Hushed Up Report That Carbon Emissions DO NOT Cause Global Warming

Christopher Neefus -- CNSNews
Critics--including eight congressmen--say the document was suppressed in spite of an Obama administration pledge to bring greater transparency to government. The report was an evaluation of the EPA's current Technical Support Document (TSD), analyzing the endangerment of human health caused by greenhouse gas emissions. The Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained and released a draft of the dissenting document last week, along with internal correspondence CEI says proves the report "was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the Administration's agenda of regulating carbon dioxide." ...

Scientists Make Radio Waves Travel Faster Than Light

Current
Scientist John Singleton, a Los Alamos National Laboratory Fellow, insists that Albert Einstein wouldn't be mad at him, even though at first blush Singleton appears to have twisted the famous physicist's theories about light into a pretzel. Einstein predicted that particles and information can't travel faster than the speed of light -- but phenomenon like radio waves? That's a different story. ...

March Report Podcast

News and Opinion Presented with Gales of Derisive Laughter by Robert Jay March

28:01. Recorded
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
TOPIC DISCUSSED:

Shepard Smith of FOX News claimed on Wednesday's "Studio B" that those of us investigating Certifi-Gate, the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal, are morally equivalent to James Von Brunn, the neo-Nazi white supremacist who shot two people at the Holocaust Museum.
     Among his remarks:
"There's been a lot of hate since this President came into Office. He has been a uniting figure in so many ways. He has brought the youth of America together in so many ways. He has been inspirational to so many people. Yet there are a lot of people who have problems with an African American man as the President. People want to talk about, 'was he even an American citizen; where's his birth certificate?" That needs to Stop. It's preposterous ... The level of the hate being ratcheted up in so many different quarters, on so many different web sites, and otherwise for that matter, it sometimes feels like its a very dangerous thing."
The Certifi-Gate page on MarchReport.com is the largest single repository of information on the Obama Birth Certificate Scandal anywhere on the internet. As such, the owner of the site felt a moral obligation to speak out. This podcast is Robert Jay March's response to Shepard Smith's Outrageous allegations of hate and racism against those of us who have the courage to defend our precious Constitution, and the basic journalistic skills to do fact checking: something Mr. Smith apparently does not know how to do. Nine months ago, Robert also was a disbeliever, but felt an obligation to those readers who had written in with alarm to check out the story, in order to assure his half-million subscribers that their fears were unfounded. He was shocked to discover that the stories were true, and reported back accordingly. Thus began Certifi-Gate.
The Certifi-Gate Investigation and associated lawsuits are not about hate, racism, fear, or any other disingenuous motive. It is about defending the Constitution, the very foundation of our Republic.
MarchReport.com issues this challenge to Shepard Smith: PROVE US WRONG. Check the facts ... objectively ... as would be done with any low-level politician, and, when you find the truth (as you will), report it to your viewers, and issue an apology to those of us who did the work first.
